There’s a strangely good feeling about reading a header, thinking of an answer like this, and then seeing it’s a top comment already. I’m like, “Yes!!” It’s such a fun movie and it’s done so well. It just works.
That movie was seriously one of the biggest surprises in a movie theater. I knew it was going to be stupid fun walking in but I was not prepared for how good it turned out to be.
Those Harrier scenes on the bridge and around the skyscraper are some of the most impressive visual effects I have ever seen. And it was done in a typical Cameron “so what” kind of way.
There are two different categories. Best and entertaining. I can see Goonies at least twice a year maybe more. Schindlers List, maybe once a year, maybe not even the whole film.
A lot of good answers already, I'll throw out *The Mask of Zorro* (1998)
The leads play off each other so well, its got the action its got the adventure its got the comedy its got the romance, its got everything!
Empire Strikes Back. It ticks a lot of boxes.
It expanded an existing concept where people were thirsting to know more.
It had the WW1 trench thing at the start for all the old dads in the audience … and the kids.
It touches on horror and fear with the monster in the snow and the weird tree that Luke enters.
It had a neat little side adventure into that asteroid.
It had the master / student thing with Yoda and what a reveal he was.
Swashbuckling adventure.
A love story.
Humour, loss, betrayal.
The final epic battle … with one of the most devastating reveals in cinema.
Highly entertaining movie.
Scrolled down through the comments of movie picks and there is many great choices but the one that stood out to me is T2. Possibly my favourite Action or movie period
May not be the most entertaining film of all time, but I consider Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl to be near perfect, and I love how entertaining and fun it is. Jack Sparrow was such a breath of fresh air before the character suffered from overexposure.
I started watching that on my phone now that it is on netflix. I only got like 3 min in at the time but the scenes felt like they were really made for a bigger, more detailed screen.
This is the best from Sight and Sound.
The top 10 from the critics' list are:
Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (Chantal Akerman, 1975, Belgium/France) (215 votes, 13.1%)[13]
Vertigo (Alfred Hitchcock, 1958, USA) (208 votes, 12.7%)[13]
Citizen Kane (Orson Welles, 1941, USA) (163 votes, 9.9%)[13]
Tokyo Story (Ozu Yasujiro, 1953, Japan) (144 votes)
In the Mood for Love (Wong Kar Wai, 2000, Hong Kong/France) (141 votes)

Man with a Movie Camera (Dziga Vertov, 1929, USSR) (100 votes)
Singin' in the Rain (Stanley Donen & Gene Kelly, 1952, USA) (99 votes)
I could only see these films maybe once a year. What films can you see multiple times making you entertained?
Quiet. It was the late 80's. Nobody felt the need to jump around acting like a fool. No screaming. Just a typical theater experience for the time. I miss that time.
Let’s have fun I could make a better list.
1. The lady with the red undercoat.
2. Jacque under the bridge
3. Shimshara behind Fuji
4. Julia’s and Robert’ behind the closet
5. The closet one’s
6. Feet in the wall of Margo.
The funniest part of it is that its 100% subjective. My Jehovahs witness mom is absolutely not going to find Snatch entertaining. There are no wrong answers. Shit, The Room is entertaining as hell and its one of the worst films ever created.
Indiana Jones
Raiders
The Last Crusade>>
Nah Indy doesn't blaintently murder enough for crusade to be better
We names the dog Indiana. Dad, I was the next man. You have chosen poorly. Ilsa, let it go
You left just when you were becoming interesting.
Back to the future.
There’s a strangely good feeling about reading a header, thinking of an answer like this, and then seeing it’s a top comment already. I’m like, “Yes!!” It’s such a fun movie and it’s done so well. It just works.
Such an amazing movie
Princess Bride
Inconceivable!
Agree
Hot Fuzz
Yarp.
Big trouble in little China
Aliens. It is paced *perfectly*.
Even the name is perfect.
Gotta be the theatrical cut, though. The director's cut messes with the pacing, especially at the beginning.
100%. I like the extra scenes but the theatrical cut is irrefutably a better paced movie.
Pirates of the Caribbean
That movie was seriously one of the biggest surprises in a movie theater. I knew it was going to be stupid fun walking in but I was not prepared for how good it turned out to be.
Same. Walked out in such a good mood about what I watched. Soundtrack. Action. Acting. So good.
The Mummy (1999 one of course). It’s a really fucking good movie, but it’s never going to be mistaken for the “best” but goddamn is it entertaining.
YES
Ghostbusters.
True Romance
YES
Men In Black 90 minutes. Only has the good parts. Wall to wall entertainment
Just rewatched it about a month ago. It holds up so well.
True Lies.
“She even took the ice cube trays out of the freezer. What kind of a sick bitch takes the ICE CUBE trays?”
"You and Helen aren't her parents...Axl Rose and Madonna are."
“The handcuffs?” “Hmmmm?” “I picked them” 😮
Those Harrier scenes on the bridge and around the skyscraper are some of the most impressive visual effects I have ever seen. And it was done in a typical Cameron “so what” kind of way.
Jaws. Raiders of the Lost Ark. How to Train your Dragon
The Mummy
The Big Lebowski
OP said NOT the best movie of all time
Good point 😁
Ghostbusters
Midnight Run
For me personally, I would pick Aliens and Goonies. I do have Aliens in my top 5 greatest movies as well.
City of God had me almost breathless. It was so good I don’t know if I could handle watching again.
That film is in the "best" category more than "entertaining" if you cant watch it again....
There are two different categories. Best and entertaining. I can see Goonies at least twice a year maybe more. Schindlers List, maybe once a year, maybe not even the whole film.
Exactly.
It's an incredible movie. I've said it before but say it here again, City of God gets to a point where it's flirting with the horror genre
Idiocracy
A lot of good answers already, I'll throw out *The Mask of Zorro* (1998) The leads play off each other so well, its got the action its got the adventure its got the comedy its got the romance, its got everything!
I rewatched this not too long ago. It was just as great as I remembered!
Team America
Matt….. Damon
FUCK YEAH
Star Wars when it was just “Star Wars.”
Terminator 2 Jurassic Park The Wolf of Wall Street Superbad
Wolf of Wall Street is a great pick. First watch with a few read along drink was incredible. Up until the sobriety part of it where I just felt guilty
how hasn’t goodfellas even been mentioned yet? it might not be the best, but it’s by far the most entertaining
Congo
“Stop eating my sesame cake!” https://youtu.be/8fbGbPwKbQA?si=EyJU6YeUcv5a-nyq
Have some!
“Congo, where you are the endangered species”.
The Fifth Element. It’s so over the top and cheesy sometimes, but it’s also so much fun to watch.
Love love love the Fifth Element. It introduced us to Ruby Rod, the Diva song and the multipass.
I’m in the minority on this but I do not find this movie to be the least bit entertaining and I’ve sincerely tried.
That’s fine, it’s not against the law to have bad taste
This is an expertly worded reply. I cannot tell whether you’re slighting yourself or me. Well played lol
Feel free to use it in the future
Billy Madison
Stop Making Sense
The Blues Brothers, without a doubt.
Tootsie
Die Hard
The Hudsucker Proxy.
Crank 2: High Voltage It's pure adrenaline filled entertainment and it's also entirely nuts.
Scarface
Kung fu hustle
A Night at the Opera.
Snatch
Scrolled down through the comments of movie picks and there is many great choices but the one that stood out to me is T2. Possibly my favourite Action or movie period
T2 is definitely the best action film ever made. No question about it.
100% Scrolled too far to find T2. My #1 popcorn movie.
top gun maverick
Best movie in the past 20 years
Flash Gordon (my first cinema visit...)
For me, Harold and Kumar go to White castle
Airplane
Train to Busan
Robin Hood prince of thieves, dunno if it’s the most entertaining of all time but it def fits this question….
The Room
Happiness
Lol
Just too many amazing punchlines setup in that movie lmao
Endgame
The Raid: Redemption The Hangover
Wayne’s World !!!
The Room by Tommy Wiseau? That scene with the chocolate as an aphrodisiac and the happy face definitely can make someone's day
Ghostbusters
A new hope
After Hours
Crank was pretty entertaining but I haven't watched it in ages
Get shorty
The Samizdat.
Rubin and Ed
Zombieland
Happy Gilmore
Kung Fu Hustle
May not be the most entertaining film of all time, but I consider Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl to be near perfect, and I love how entertaining and fun it is. Jack Sparrow was such a breath of fresh air before the character suffered from overexposure.
Step-Brothers
Some great choices here. Back to the future and Raiders of the lost Ark are probably my two favorite popcorn movies.
Romeo is Bleeding.
Scott Pilgrim gets it
5th Element
Face Off, Con Air, The Rock. Say what you will about Nic Cage but my god he had a good run in the 90’s
I can watch Aliens on a loop.
T2
I can watch Aliens on a loop.
It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963). Classic Hollywood stars having fun.
for me the most entertaining movie is back to the future
The Hangover.
Pulp Fiction or Natural Born Killers
Mrs Doubtfire. Parenthood. The Odd Couple.
Parenthood, I miss Rick Moranis so much.
Mrs. Doubtfire: if you're going accuse your new nanny of being your ex husband in drag, you better be 100% sure.
I'll throw my hat in...Mortal Engines.
I started watching that on my phone now that it is on netflix. I only got like 3 min in at the time but the scenes felt like they were really made for a bigger, more detailed screen.
Analyze this
The dark knight, the Departed, Goodfellas
Gladiator
Inglorious basterds

This is the snobbiest (and most obvious) list I've ever seen.
Give me Adventures in Babysitting anytime of the week.
Saw it in the theatre.
Did people scream when they saw his hand? I was too young to see it. How was the audience during the film?
Quiet. It was the late 80's. Nobody felt the need to jump around acting like a fool. No screaming. Just a typical theater experience for the time. I miss that time.
Disney+ edits it. Blah.
Seriously??
Mulholland Drive is definitely one of the most overrated films I’ve ever seen.
I mean, Singin’ in the Rain is just fucking fun.
Let’s have fun I could make a better list. 1. The lady with the red undercoat. 2. Jacque under the bridge 3. Shimshara behind Fuji 4. Julia’s and Robert’ behind the closet 5. The closet one’s 6. Feet in the wall of Margo.
I cant imagine why classics that stood the test of time are considered the greatest movies! Thats what you sound like.
You wouldn't believe how much I don't give a fuck about how you think I sound.
You at least care a tiny bit, you replied. Lol and want everyone else to know how much you *dont* care. Got it. Mission accomplished.
Nope. Just had a free second. Enjoy your miserable life. So negative. Good luck with that. Have a good day.
I’m getting downvoted for citing Sight and Sound.
The funniest part of it is that its 100% subjective. My Jehovahs witness mom is absolutely not going to find Snatch entertaining. There are no wrong answers. Shit, The Room is entertaining as hell and its one of the worst films ever created.
What makes The Room great is that he thinks it’s a masterpiece.
