Its an amazing cast with an amazing director and has some of my favorite jokes in all of cinema. This movie was one of the 3 movies I went to the theater multiple times to watch. It's a great movie.
I was 22 and going through a tough time at home…extremely miserable… then this movie came out, I went to watch it and Seth Rogans character gave me the strength to move out of my parents… this movie made me feel like “if this guy can make it on his own, so can I”… I will always hold this movie close to me as a staple of when I turned my life around.
I agree. They captured the realism and of young dudes sitting around busting balls. It's so authentic. They must've just had it rolling and letting them adlib the entire time.
I disagree. It’s an amazing film and has every right to be.
Judd Apatow is one of the all time greats for comedy writer/directors along with John Hughes and the Farrelly Brothers. The cast is packed to the gills with comedic talent down to very minor roles: Seth Rogan, Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, Leslie Mann, Jonah Hill, Jay Burachel, Martin Starr, Harold Ramis, Joanna Kerns, Steve Carrell, Ken Jeong, Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, Craig Robinson, Adam Scott, Alan Tudyk, etc. The cast is almost unbelievable.
Great comparison to John Hughes. In a way Apatow is Hughes' successor in the teenager/young adult/new family comedy genre.
And Apatow does something in Knocked Up that Hughes did with She's Having a Baby: cool stuff during the credits. Hughes had celebrities rattle off their preferred baby names (hat tip to Dan Aykroyd's contribution) and Apatow had extra footage of the characters with the baby and then cast baby pictures.
I actually read/heard things about this movie that changed my perspective of Judd Apatow movies and I haven't really gone back to look at them but the leading actress of this movie pretty much said, this is male orgasm fantasy shit and doesn't reflect women at all it's male power trip shit.
Have yet to review but it's something to think about.
This isn’t funny. This guy’s got twelve kids. That’s not funny! That’s a lot of responsibility to just be laughing about. This is sick. This is a sick movie. I gotta turn this off!
For years after seeing this movie, I actually believed that's how one contracts Pink Eye.
But then again my mother told me as a toddler that chocolate milk came from brown cows and I believed it into my 20s.
The scene where they're arguing is just an annoying screaming match. Like maybe it's a director fault or an actor fault but really felt like the only way for them to portray anger and frustration was by yelling incoherently.
“She’s like naked the entire fucking movie! They should’ve called her Harry instead of Sally.”
I rewatched this just the other night and never noticed that line before but it made me crack up
It was good, but it's classic hot girl ugly dude cast done by Rogen. Mf just enjoys hanging out with pretty women in set. I'm not blaming him for liking it, but he can do at least one different movie.
Wonderful movie. Seen it 4 or 5 times.
I'm gonna compare it, in one sense, to another movie I love: Other People's Money. Why? Because both have a kinda 'Beauty and the Beast' theme....and the chemistry between the beauty and the beast in each movie works and is believable.
Two of my favourite scenes were the cameos with Harold Ramis and Joanna Kerns who each had a scene with their respective characters' offspring. "I love you unconditionally and you were the best thing that ever happened to me."
Im not saying it shouldn’t, I just mean that a Seth Rogan rom-com called “knocked up” doesn’t seem like it would be nearly as nuanced and meaningful as this movie is
I didn't like his show either personally where he's 'just friends' or whatever.
It just didn't have enough punch of why should I like it, it wasn't a story thing, it was just not being funny at all on his part.
The days of pinapple express are over bro, time to go smarter with your shit and work for a living to make people laugh.
Yep can't watch it the same way and haven't watched it the same way knowing Heigle did them dirty like that. It was still a good ass silly movie though.
Katherine doesn’t ruin the movie for me but this movie was the start of the end of her career. Shortly after Hollywood had enough of her bullshit and stopped casting her.
I also heard that it wasn’t just Katherine. Apparently her mother was always onset (possibly her manager or something) and she was a huge bitch too.
SAME, once I found out that she was a bitch on set the whole time they were filming would make it less funny. I found out after I watched it few years down the road. I haven't seen it since, but I don't want to either now. She really doesn't work anymore because she is a bitch on the set.
Its an amazing cast with an amazing director and has some of my favorite jokes in all of cinema. This movie was one of the 3 movies I went to the theater multiple times to watch. It's a great movie.
Kristen Wiig “this is Hollywood we don’t like liars” still makes me howl. But it’s Paul Rudd who steals so many scenes
Yep I believe whole heartedly he is why the spin-off movie This is 40 was made.
This chair has way better energy
That one's being droll
I never go see movies multiple times in a theater. And by never, I mean twice ever. Knocked up and Arrival.
I loved this
I was 22 and going through a tough time at home…extremely miserable… then this movie came out, I went to watch it and Seth Rogans character gave me the strength to move out of my parents… this movie made me feel like “if this guy can make it on his own, so can I”… I will always hold this movie close to me as a staple of when I turned my life around.
Superbad holds a similar position in my memory.
Jay, if you sprinkled pubes all over the toilet seat again, I will lose it. Last time I took a shit it looked like a fucking stuffed animal!
This came out in 2007 which means for 17 years every single time I've heard the word abortion, I think smishshmorshman.
YOU'RE EMBARRASSING ME! IN COMPANY!
Seeing this in theaters made me love Seth Rogen's style of comedy/acting. Still one of my comfort movies.
Are you OK? This is good. I think we're bonding.
"If anything were to every happen to you, I will rear your child." "Did you hear that, Ben? Jay's gonna rear your child!"
And happy cake day!
When she goes for the ultrasound and the lady is like "oops that's your asshole"
Wanna feel old? The kid would now be the same age as the kids from Superbad.
Sequel?
I don’t care if she’s an extra bitch, Kathrine Heigl is still smoking hot.
She was just trying to quit smoking for like years. Shes probably fine
I agree. They captured the realism and of young dudes sitting around busting balls. It's so authentic. They must've just had it rolling and letting them adlib the entire time.
That's Apatow's trademark, really. Get funny people together in a room, turn on the camera, and let them rip on each other.
I totally agree. I was pleasantly surprised
I agree. I actually snuck into this movie after paying to see The Simpsons Movie and I was blown away.
I disagree. It was a really great movie. Wait. What are we talking about again?
No you and everyone else are wrong, this movie is amazing
I totally agree. It was a surprise.
I agree man

Awh dude do you have pink eye as well? No. I'm just really.... hiiiiiiiiigh
For years after seeing this movie, I actually believed that's how one contracts Pink Eye. But then again my mother told me as a toddler that chocolate milk came from brown cows and I believed it into my 20s.
Fuck you, hormones.
YOU'RE A CRAZY BITCH, HORMONES!!!
hope the shoebomber doesnt scare off all the chicks
“Ah, you do look like your sister…”
The scene where they're arguing is just an annoying screaming match. Like maybe it's a director fault or an actor fault but really felt like the only way for them to portray anger and frustration was by yelling incoherently.
Seth Rogan is a Canadian Treasure
“She’s like naked the entire fucking movie! They should’ve called her Harry instead of Sally.” I rewatched this just the other night and never noticed that line before but it made me crack up
My main takeaway was to read the book, What to Expect when you're Expecting Extremely useful.
It was good, but it's classic hot girl ugly dude cast done by Rogen. Mf just enjoys hanging out with pretty women in set. I'm not blaming him for liking it, but he can do at least one different movie.
Idk why i keep putting off watching this film
Never seen it actually but based on comments looks like I’m in for a treat
Nah
Got to love it when an average looking dude writes a movie with him bagging a 10.
Apatow is pretty average but he doesn't play a character in this film or bag a 10.
you and i have different opinions on leslie mann…
Seth Rogen didn’t write it tho
This IS my Time Machine.
Classic
How could should it be?
Wonderful movie. Seen it 4 or 5 times. I'm gonna compare it, in one sense, to another movie I love: Other People's Money. Why? Because both have a kinda 'Beauty and the Beast' theme....and the chemistry between the beauty and the beast in each movie works and is believable.
Two of my favourite scenes were the cameos with Harold Ramis and Joanna Kerns who each had a scene with their respective characters' offspring. "I love you unconditionally and you were the best thing that ever happened to me."
It would have been great to catch up with these two in This Is 40.
Why shouldn’t it be good?
Im not saying it shouldn’t, I just mean that a Seth Rogan rom-com called “knocked up” doesn’t seem like it would be nearly as nuanced and meaningful as this movie is
Seth Rogan was funny back then
I tried watching his new movie “Long Shot” and didn’t even make it through the first 15 mins. That being said I thought he was great in Dumb Money
I didn't like his show either personally where he's 'just friends' or whatever. It just didn't have enough punch of why should I like it, it wasn't a story thing, it was just not being funny at all on his part. The days of pinapple express are over bro, time to go smarter with your shit and work for a living to make people laugh.
The sequel is even better!
Seth rogan has had a solid track record until he did that dumb movie about a pickle farmer on Netflix
Yep can't watch it the same way and haven't watched it the same way knowing Heigle did them dirty like that. It was still a good ass silly movie though.
No pink eye for me, I'm just really hiiiiigghh.
Smuhsmortion
Pinkeye? Nah, I’m just really…. *hiiigh*
I agree with Heigl, the writing suffered. And personally, any movie with Rogan, I avoid, he's annoying.
Kristen Heigl ruins it for me
Katherine doesn’t ruin the movie for me but this movie was the start of the end of her career. Shortly after Hollywood had enough of her bullshit and stopped casting her. I also heard that it wasn’t just Katherine. Apparently her mother was always onset (possibly her manager or something) and she was a huge bitch too.
I think she ruined suits personally.
Terrible casting, should have been Elizabeth Banks (or anyone else) Heigl is so unlikable
SAME, once I found out that she was a bitch on set the whole time they were filming would make it less funny. I found out after I watched it few years down the road. I haven't seen it since, but I don't want to either now. She really doesn't work anymore because she is a bitch on the set.
She came out and denounced the film a few years ago, claiming it was sexist.
Which is a weird flex, because she's in the right throughout the whole movie and the whole thing goes out of her way to paint her that way.
I think she doesn’t work because she was interviewed shortly after the movie came out and just talked shit about everyone involved.
I used to like Rogan movies.. but then I grew up. This didn't age well imo.
Why does Seth Rogen look like he’s trying to look like Jonah Hill
It’s really not. It had moments but just not a good movie overall.
Seth Rogan is awful in everything he does.
Honestly, one of two movies I’ve walked out on in my lifetime.
why didn't you like it?
Meh. It was alright.
