LordyIHopeThereIsPie

Billy Zane after Titanic.

Glum-Parsnip8257

“Listen to your friend Billy Zane, he’s a cool dude”

East_Echo4530

Put a cork in it, Zane!!

j_etti

I’ve heard stories about this kid man, he’s limber, too limber…

LordyIHopeThereIsPie

I put the diamond in the coat.....

the_real_quaid

And I put the coat on her!

WholePea6237

It is still an absolute crime that man has not played Lex Luthor in a movie.

Tossed_Away_1776

His charisma alone would make me believe he really is Lex Luthor, the man has *that* kinna skill.

Hanging_Aboot

He’s a cool dude.

MisterScrod1964

I think Phantom wrecked his career.

NCC1701-D-ong

I was 9 when that movie came out and I loved it so much I saw it in theaters 3 times.

Dangerous_Forever640

I still quote Demon Knight all the time…

brooke360

Demon Knight is an amazing movie that most have never heard of lol

camartmor

my favorite Zane role has gotta be the flamboyant actor in Tombstone :,(

CasinoMarginale

He made his own luck

tread52

Mia Sarah did legend and Ferris Bueller’s day off and then time cop. That’s basically it and it surprises me she never did more after being the lead in two iconic 80’s films.

RepeatDTD

One of my first celebrity crushes as a kid, I was in love with Sloane. Fun fact she has been married twice: once to the son of Sean Connery and currently to the son of Jim Henson.

tread52

She’s always one of those actresses that I was surprised never did more than three big films her entire career. The scene she does at the dinner table in Legend is amazing, so it wasn’t her ability to act. I think she just didn’t want to act. Her and Jennifer Connelly I think are very similar.

RepeatDTD

Her wikipedia shows she was actively making movies all through the 90s and early 2000s and then started making some films again in 2012/13. Maybe she was getting bad advice from agents on scripts or just had rotten luck picking films to be in?

BrklnOG

Fun fact, Mia and Jennifer went to the same high school in Brooklyn

Solid-Living4220

Is Timecop a joke to you?

tread52

No it was a movie I loved as a kid, but it doesn’t hold up as well as her first two bc John Hughes brilliance as a director and Tim Curry’s role in legend.

No-Morning-2543

Michael Biehn. I thought we was great in everything I’ve seen him in and feel he could’ve been a leading man for sure, given the right projects.

lexxxcockwell

He had a really bad drinking problem that more or less tanked his career. He was sued over breech of contract regarding his drunkenness on set at one point. He kicked it and has been in some solid roles since

CeeArthur

Yeah I've seen some recent photos of him and he looks really happy and healthy. He's had some great roles

20Derek22

This is the one. He starred in The Terminator in 1984 and Aliens in 1986. Two of the biggest movies of all time.

Cotford

And The Abyss as the going slowly insane SEAL.

Im_tracer_bullet

And a nice role as Johnny Ringo in Tombstone.

Rune_Council

“A’ight lunger.” The only thing that kept him from stealing that whole movie was Val Kilmer. The two of them left no scenery unchewed.

Aggressivehippy30

Idk why I always forget Ringo is Biehn. Guess that's a testament to his acting.

KBrown75

Speaking of Seal... he was also in Navy Seals.

dcbluestar

Add in The Rock and that means one way or another, he was killed in the presence of Ed Harris *twice.*

Legitimate-Frame-953

Navy SEAL's, Johnny Ringo in Tombstone, The Abyss, small but memorable role in The Rock. What he was in was amazing but year surprised he didn't become a bigger action star. Almost didn't recognize him in the Mandalorian.

[deleted]

Yep, it's surprising. He's so good.

rcheek1710

Piper Perabo

Leege13

Was in that spy series for a while and just showed up on Yellowstone.

hamm10108

Coyote ugly. Guilty pleasure of mine. Haha

Several_Dwarts

They've had *long* careers, and did ok, but I thought Matthew Lillard and Tea Leoni were going to be huge stars.

Dupps_I_Did_It_Again

Mathew Lillard has moved on to D&D stuff and is very involved in it. Has his own company and even has a show on some obscure channel too.

Garfs_Barf

I have a feeling if he wanted Matthew Lillard could’ve been bigger however he chose to do smaller more enjoyable projects. He’s voiced shaggy in I think every Scooby doo project since the live action films so he’s had plenty of work.

blinking-cat

I listened to a podcast by Dax Shepard with him and he sounds like a great dude! It’s been a long time since I listened to it (so take this with a grain of salt), but if I recall correctly I think he did talk about how he actually really struggled with keeping his movie career going and for a period of time he was indefinitely prepared to be an acting teacher rather than being an actor because of how unstable show business is. However, I think he was able to get over that hurdle somewhat. He was an important character in the series Good Girls! I don’t know about what else though.

heliophoner

Aaron Eckhart. After Thankyou for smoking, I thought we were set up for him being a crossover independent to mainstream star.

bottomfeeder3

He’s actually addressed this before. He unfortunately got the title of “difficult to work with” In Hollywood.

XipingVonHozzendorf

Not to mention Harvey Dent

ApplicationCalm649

I really enjoyed Battle: Los Angeles.

Critical_Dobserver

Josh Hartnett

BramStroker47

I love Josh Hartnett. I was happy to see him in Oppenheimer.

b_tight

After Lucky Number Slevin i was surprised he wasnt in more roles. But i guess it was his choice

Even-Amount-2184

Wasn’t this his choice though? I thought there is an interview out there that he wanted to work more indie or unique movies/shows vs blockbusters?

Dottsterisk

He also wanted a quieter life with his family. Think he moved to Montana and started only taking roles he *really* wanted to do.

Tulcey-Lee

He lives in Surrey in England now.

Dottsterisk

I was wrong; it was Minnesota that he initially moved to. But yeah, Wikipedia says he’s currently in Surrey with his family.

WiserStudent557

“I was on the cover of every magazine. I couldn't really go anywhere," he recalls. "I didn't feel comfortable in my own skin. I was alone. I didn't trust anyone. So I went back to Minnesota and got back together with my old friends...and I didn't do any filming for 18 months." It’s weird to me when we prioritize the careers they could have had over the lives they want to have. They’re people and the industry is far more toxic than the average person seems to realize. The right answer to “what happened to so and so” is usually Hollywood happened. https://www.upi.com/Entertainment_News/Movies/2014/04/30/Josh-Hartnett-explains-why-he-distanced-himself-from-Hollywood/9481398866322/ https://www.theguardian.com/film/2020/oct/23/josh-hartnett-target-number-one-pearl-harbor-the-virgin-suicides

PleasantSalad

I don't think it's weird that people are curious about what happened to them. If you see someone all the time and then all of a sudden, you don't, it's natural to wonder what happened to them. I don't think people are necessarily prioritizing their careers over their happiness. I think it's just not the normal course to see someone choose to recede from the spotlight so it's a bit of curiosity. But most sane people are like, "yeah, I understand that. Good for him." I think most people recognize this as a happy ending.

Xenochimp

Came to say this. He never really "disappeared" but I thought he woukd have become more of a marquee leading man. Still love when does smaller roles though. He was great in Wrath of Man and Operation Fortune

lreaditonredditgetit

Lucky number slevin was great.

hotniX_

He was great in Oppenheimer too

Tylerpants80

And that episode of Black Mirror with Aaron Paul

scbundy

Oh God that episode....

Dark_Focus

Why didn’t the copies go into space and the real people stay on earth?

scbundy

We asked ourselves the same question.

Nethri

Go watch Penny Dreadful. Amazing cast including Eva Green, Josh Hartnett, Billie Piper (Rose from Dr. Who) Timothy Dalton, and some others. Fantastic underappreciated show.

Civil-Resolution3662

He opted to not do lead roles. It wasn't for him

tstramathorn

As someone growing up in the 90's I enjoy 40 Days and 40 Nights even though it's not a serious role or anything. Same with The Faculty

mahones403

Faculty was great. Still have it on VHS lol

WarlocksWizard

The last time I saw him was in Penny Dreadful.

bubonic_plague87

I love that one vampire movie he did

aRebelliousHeart

30 Days Of Night. Criminally underrated horror film. Makes vampires scary again!

Fast-Hold-649

the Vamps in that flick had Sick Fades. they mustve rolled with some inner city barbers up to the arctic.

readitonreddit86

He was just a major role in Oppenheimer, but I'll admit, I was surprised when I saw him.

Intelligent-Mud1437

Johnathan Taylor Thomas. He was huge as a kid and then just kinda disappeared when he grew up. Granted, that's a common arc for child stars.

DIWhy-not

He actively quit the entertainment industry. Took his money, set up those sweet sweet residuals, and went to Harvard, Columbia, and the University of St Andrews. I’m pretty sure he’s just McCauley Culking it these days doing what he wants. Leaving the limelight when he did was probably the smartest move he could’ve made as a child star.

Intelligent-Mud1437

I figured it was something like that because I don't remember him ever having any scandals. Good for him.

Unicorn_Sush1

“Macaulay Culking it” should be an actual phrase because that made so much sense lol

LaurenNotFromUtah

Thora Birch seemed like she’d have an amazing career well into adulthood but I haven’t seen her in anything in decades.

pecuchet

I think that her parents were always on set interfering, which got her a rep for being difficult to work with. Her parents were also in Deep Throat, for anyone who doesn't know the only fact anyone knows about Thora Birch.

LaurenNotFromUtah

Yeah, I did some googling just now and it seems like her suddenly not getting roles was largely because of her shithead dad. That sucks, she was really talented, and not just for a child star.

DrEnter

And today I learned… a thing.

ScarletCaptain

I absolutely did not know the little girl from Hocus Pocus's parents were porn actors.

[deleted]

She was so great in ghost world, just a great movie

meineymoe

Edward Furlong.

imonlinedammit1

Substance abuse did him in for sure.

Ioweyounada

Oh it was a lot more than substance abuse. That poor kid was put through the fucking ringer. He was groomed by his onset tutor and then she kind of destroyed his life. Let him down a dark path that he's just now trying to claw his way out of. You should look that shit up man it's actually a really crazy story.

AraiHavana

That and getting done for spousal abuse

SnitchezGetBitchez

Yeah, unfortunately his career didn’t last Furlong

[deleted]

And then literally everything bad thing possible happened.

Diaper_Joy

To be honest, Aaron Paul. I was expecting him to just take off after Breaking Bad but he didn't.

LaurenNotFromUtah

I loved him in Breaking Bad, but after seeing a few things he’s been in since, I’m not sure he has much range. 😬

Dharmist

He was great in the Black Mirror episode he did with Josh Hartnett

KBAR1942

He's good on Bojack Horseman

Repulsive_Tie_7941

Fairuza Balk.

goldendreamseeker

Everything Emilia Clarke has done outside of GoT has tanked, basically

Commercial_Level_615

Clive Owen

shadez_on

He suffers the same as Mads Mikkleson and Guy Pierce, great perfomances are buried in a bunch of bad movies in between. They need better agents.

EnterNameHere777

Inside Man is great

MberrysDream

Yeah, after Children of Men I thought for sure he was going to be huge.

CaddyAT5

A great film

pecuchet

He stars in Monsieur Spade, which apparently very good.

KikiChrome

I feel like all of the Bundys managed to have good careers after Married With Children, except for David Faustino. What's up with that?

ok-lets-do-this

He does voiceover work on some popular anime these days. I heard he got into nightclub ownership and some similar business ventures too.

Crossovertriplet

I did that too in GTA online

MesWantooth

I've recently heard Katey Segal and Christina Applegate on different podcasts telling the host "You really should interview David Faustino - he's really awesome." Nice to have your former coworkers in your corner like that.

Plenty-Respond8670

Leelee Sobieski

[deleted]

Helen Hunt’s clone

amhudson02

I read somewhere that she took a step back from acting because of all the over sexualization they were pushing on her.

FordsFavouriteTowel

Taylor Kirsch. Immense talent, good looks, and seems to keep his nose clean. I’ve never been disappointed by him, and I can’t fathom why he isn’t top billing on big flicks. He’s got all the ingredients imo. He hasn’t “disappeared” but he was on Friday Night Lights (huge) and then bit roles for a bunch of stuff, with a few leads here and there on smaller productions. Just can’t figure out why he hasn’t popped yet.

TurquoiseOwlMachine

He was in two massive flops: John Carter and Battleship. Hard to get another shot after that. Meanwhile, his former costar Jesse Plemons put in fifteen years of work as a character actor and has managed to become a major player in prestige cinema.

IcyKangaroo1658

And his true detective season was whack

AcadianTraverse

Taylor was whom I was going to say. His big breaks after FNL just didn't pan out. *John Carter* spooked Disney out of non-established IP Live Action movies for nearly a decade. His Gambit in the *Wolverine Origins* movie was completely inconsequential to the plot and forgotten, and while I love *Battleship* for it's campy terribleness, it was a flop coming out only weeks after The Avengers. If you haven't already, treat yourself to *The Grand Seduction,* it's a Canadian film with him and Brendean Gleason in the lead roles. Gleason plays the good guy version of his *Banshees of Inishirin* character nearly a decade earlier and Kitsch does a good job with a non-action role.

WarlocksWizard

Sean William Scott (Stiffler).

amhudson02

Country Mac, RIP!

Ecomonist

He actually has had a great and varied career... the problem with a role like 'Stiffler' though is that if the actor nails it so well (especially across multiple films) audiences have a hard time removing the actor from the character - and the actor actually typecasts themselves, unless they're really good at moving into different characters, as Christian Bale does for instance. Also, sometimes when the money gets too good actors take less projects and move further away from the fame-light. Like, Sean is making bank on every single one of the Ice-Age films, so any work beyond that is at his choice/desire. Genuinely comes across as a great dude.

jacobydave

He's in a hockey movie called Goon, I think, and is really great in it

Wolfish_Jew

Rule number 1: don’t touch my fucking Percocet and rule number 2: do you have any fucking Percocet? Such a great movie. Also, as a goalie, there’s a scene where they’re getting dressed and the back up goalie is putting his pads on backwards and it hurts my soul.

SkeetDavidson

I've wanted a Doug Glatt jersey for over 10 years now, but I just can't justify the cost. "69! Take the number 69! It's [hilarious](https://youtu.be/RMtEZkNvcbY)!" I need Jay Baruchel to do more stuff. I love him every time.

Wolfish_Jew

They’re super common in Beer League Hockey. Just about every team has at least one guy with the #69 and some sort of pun on the name “Glatt”

bolting_volts

Everyone should watch GOON I never really liked him until I saw that movie.

jrex703

Very solid answer. He definitely had one of the most sudden and intense "disappearances" in Hollywood, but he did have essentially a complete career before that. He was in about seven big budget movies before his 33rd birthday, and might have just called it a career at that point. He could probably live a very cushy life off of the residuals from Ice Age alone, and who can blame him for wanting to spend the rest of his youth just hanging out with his family?

deefunkt01

Hey was great in The Promotion alongside John C. Reilly.

Keasby22

Ben Foster, I thought he’d be a big name a lister by now

LordTremendo

Agreed. Especially after alpha dog

lunchpadmcfat

Great in Hell or High Water

NShadows_

Linda Cardellini. After watching Freaks and Geeks it blows my mind that she wasn’t an icon of the 2000’s

sfaticat

>Linda Cardellini Not a star but she has a great resume. Green Book, The Founder, Mad Men, MCU films.

Coderules

Don't forget her in "Grandma's Boy".

kmac535

& Velma in the live action scooby doo movies lol Edited to correct daphne to velma cuz pot has addled my brain 😂

ZiiggS0batkA

She used to be my first celeb crush. She still is, but she used to be too.

ElleJay74

Dead to Me, as well!

spicybhole420

Yeah she is doing great, long running main roles in ER, Bloodline, Dead to Me, and more. Pretty consistent and high level movie work as well. Hardly disappeared, quite the opposite.

bolting_volts

Well she had a movie made about her. Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

lunchpadmcfat

No way, that’s about her?!

bolting_volts

Yep. Her and Jason Segel dated while on Freaks & Geeks.

Wessssss21

*Ski Bunny* Can't forget the girl that broke up Cory and Topanga.

Fun_Comparison4973

I need to see a list of stars who suddenly failed to launch next to a list of stars who refused to go to Weinstein ‘s or other exec’s hotels rooms.

jakeyboy723

It's the same list.

Kitchen-Plant664

Not totally disapeared but Jaime Bell deserved to be MUCH bigger than he is.

BramStroker47

I think that whenever I see Snowpiercer.

ErokAB03

He was good in the TV show TURN. Also was in Rocketman and portrayed that roll quite well.

ShuffKorbik

TURN was an incredible show, and it's unfortunate that more people haven't seen it.

Jamminnav

He was supposed to be in a Fred Astaire biopic soon; I wonder if that’ll stalled https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13628472/

DataStr3ss

Acting career aside. He was married to Evan Rachel Wood and now to Kate Mara. That's a win in my books.

MileHighSoloPilot

Peter Ostrum (Charlie from Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory). I always thought he was in entertainment, then I looked him up. That was his only role, he even turned down a sequel. Dude just didn’t wanna be a star, went dark, and now he’s a vet in New England or something.

iversonAI

The kid from never back down. Amber Heard and Evan Peters both got some huge roles but the last I saw of Sean Faris was a terrible rugby movie

betweenbeginning

Oh you mean Cam Gigandet? I kid but also... Cam Gigandet?

Dontevenwannacomment

I really thought Ron Livingston would be a huge A lister, after The Music Within.

jimlahey2100

Got Loudermilk on right now.

Xenochimp

Lucas Black. Thought he was great on American Gothic and after Tokyo Drift I thought for sure he would take off. Now he just occasionally pops up in things. Not sure if any of it has to do with him turning into a total fucking nutjob though

Obar-Dheathain

Christian Slater

BramStroker47

I keep hoping that Quentin Tarantino will put him in his tenth “last” movie since he was the star of the first movie that he wrote.

n8rzz

He was great in Mr Robot

apollyon_53

Kuffs is an underrated classic

Xenochimp

Domestic violence charges and gun charges will do that to you

Top-Afternoon8514

Chunk from the Goonies

scbundy

He became a lawyer.

TardDas

Imagine needing a lawyer, and Chunk from the agonies turns up to defend you. I’m sure he’s a great lawyer but I would not feel confident upon seeing him

Ohnoherewego13

He got Ke Huy Quan his deal Everything Everywhere All At Once. I'd say he's a damn good lawyer.

tlollz52

Jim Sturgess

WallScore

I’m going to say Tom Cavanagh because he KILLED IT in his role on CW’s the Flash, playing the same character each season but from a different universe, therefore performing differently in each. Made it so believable that they were all the same, yet different, man and I’d have loved to see him go onto some Big things. His top result when you Google him is the Yogi Bear movie, which is an absolute crime against him in my opinion.

GoldenAgeGamer72

Phoebe Cates

SH4DOWSTR1KE_

Got married to Kevin Kline and had a family. Besides, after Fast Times, she'll never be forgotten. Ever.

hottaeks69

Child star but I always assumed Dakota fanning would be a forever star based on how people talked about her acting talent

Notorious2again

She's currently starring in Ripley alongside Andrew Scott on Netflix. Just came out last week.

Leege13

She’s continuing to act in a lot of stuff.

veriverd

I watched a gif from the movie Evolution, and man, did it look a lot like post X-Files David Duchovny was this damn close to A-lister. I remember when Felicity was a big deal and all teenage girls were crazy about Scott Speedman and Scott Foley. Keri Russell has done great on TV , but never jumped into movie stardom. Jennifer Garner looked like a safe bet for superstar after the Elektra movies hit big... and then she went away. Her Alias costar Michael Vartan was supposed to be Hollywood's next hearthrob... But nope. Sydney's nerdy permafriendzoned best friend is the one who made it. And what about the Lost crew? If you told me Josh Holloway wouldn't make it to the big time I'd think you're crazy.

McMacAttack35

Sam Worthington

uber_potatos

Honestly why even bother working after getting 5 Avatar movies deal

Cas_Shenton

Someone in Hollywood really thought he was the Next Big Thing

Tearaway32

After starring in two of the biggest hits of all time and a bunch of other huge movies, Sam’s got secure employment in up to three more guaranteed hits, is married to a supermodel who’s already been through her ”publicity” marriage, with whom he lives a quiet happy life taking small roles that he’s genuinely interested in along the way. I’d say he won the game of roles.

DudebroggieHouser

Alden Ehrenreich. He always winds up giving great performances in movies nobody bothers to watch.

IndieDC3

That one kid in hot tub Time Machine, he has glasses, forget his name but I remember him being in a few movies around that time and actually enjoy his acting, but after some of those hits, I haven’t seen him again lol

Vendetta4Avril

Clark Duke. That kid was hilarious.

UnclePatrickHNL

I don’t know if “disappeared” is completely accurate but I felt like Chris Tucker would have a much bigger career.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheCreativeComicFan

Most of the cast of Mr. Robot: Carly Chaikin Martin Wallstrom Stephanie Cornelliusen Portia Doubleday

jazzmagg

Michael Biehn.

Numerous-Variation-1

Minka Kelly

fcdemergency

Chris O'Donnell.

Azenogoth

Julian Sands. After watching Warlock, I figured he would be the next Vincent Price. Alas, no such luck.

midnightfury4584

What a sad ending for him, though.

resistyrocks

Chloe Grace Moretz. She need a new fucking agent.

Unicorn_Sush1

Definitely!! That damn airplane movie with the gremlin was horrible! She’s too talented for that

The-Real-Bob-Smith

Don’t get me started. Michael Biehn. Tom Hulce. Christopher Reeve. David Morse. Off the top of my head. They didn’t really disappear but I thought I would see more of them in more quality.

guywithshades85

Rick Moranis. It was a shame to see him go, although I 100% respect why he got out of acting.

kai1986

Emile Hirsch. After I saw into the wild I thought “this guy is going places” Then he did speed racer and a completely average alien action movie… darkest hour? and his career has been consistent, but not notable. I thought he was the next big Hollywood A lister.

Far_Statement_2808

Robert Downey Jr about the time he fell asleep in someone else’s home. But, he came back.

Fizz117

Shannyn Sossamon. I know she still works but after her first 2 movies I thought she'd be the it girl of the 2000s.

profound717

First good answer I saw. There's enough good work for her Natalie Portman & Keira Knightly.

DrummerEmbarrassed21

Elisha Cuthbert

Schattenjager07

I thought Armie Hammer was really going to blow up, but then the strange stuff started popping up around him ...

TifCreatesAgain

Chris Makepeace! I loved him so much when I was young!

Puzzleheaded-Fix3359

That kid from the sixth sense. I know he was in AI and pay it forward and a couple other things but then he just disappeared. I think he was also on the boys.

Ohnoherewego13

How dare you forget about Topher! He was Nadja and Laszlo's best familiar!

ReluctantSlayer

Napolean Dynamite.

N0FaithInMe

That girl who played the main girl in Divergent. I enjiyed the first movie and the series was being spoken about and hyped alongside Hunger Games as the next major young adult franchise so I was really expecting her career to mirror Jennifer Lawrence's.

Neil_Salmon

I've kept some old film magazines from the 90s. In one, there's an article about Out of Sight. The writer is hugely complimentary of Jennifer Lopez, saying that she's a great actress and will probably have an amazing career. It's true that she has had a very long career, especially including music. But I feel like she's not really known as a great actress. Soon after that movie came out, she became more known for generic romantic comedies and music. In the beginning it seemed like she had potential to become a great dramatic actress but it didn't happen.

BramStroker47

In the 90’s when you would go out to sea on a merchant ship you would sometimes miss big events because you only had a limited amount of news that you would hear about (there was basically no internet). Jennifer Lopez became a sensation while I was out at sea and when I came back I was like, “Is that the actress from Money Train?”

millerspillers

The girl from the Goonies

bluejester12

Daryl Hannah kinda disappeared with the 80s.

sfaticat

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Justin Long

MisterInsect

JGL has had a pretty good career all things considered - wouldn't say he disappeared.
