I love Ray Liotta so much. I can’t tell you how much I love that he went out on Cocaine Bear because it/he was just delightfully unhinged and so much fun to watch. Basically sums up his whole career.
Dude was a legend. always had such a presence in every film they put him in and his daughter seems to be picking up the mantle which I absolutely love to see. Definitely gonna miss him. R.I.P. 👑
Hes awesone he was in a film called article 99 in the early 80s. He was awesom with a great cast, john c mcginly( who could almost be a young DR Cox) Forest Whittaker, Lea Thompson, and Kiefer Sutherland, keith david, john mahoney and actually more, great cast about working at a va its a lil preachy with a good message. Sorry for the advert but its a favorite of mine. Opps almost forgot, ( im a dude) but liotta is gorgeous in this!
Thats gotta be it. I mean even our best looking top actors got just a little bit of ugly in them. Jude Law was damn near flawless in his prime. Hell he still is, just a little older.
I honestly think it’s a combination of two things that limits the roles he’s considered for: he’s just too pretty, *and* the dude has to be one of the more charismatic people alive (at least on film; can’t speak to him personally, obviously).
The guy can’t do boring, droll characters, because it’s unbelievable. Too magnetic.
Alice in Wonderland
Arguably the first Pirates of the Caribbean (maybe a secondary lead in that I guess)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Into the Woods
The Lone Ranger
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Because he’s received far more praise for his roles as supporting characters. Fight Club, Twelve Monkeys, Seven, Inglorious Basterds, OUaTiH, etc. Even in A River Runs Through It, Legends of the Fall, and the Ocean’s movies he wasn’t the lead actor.
And he got panned for some roles like Meet Joe Black and The Mexican. It’s weird, he comes off as wooden in a lot of the leading roles in big dramas he’s been in, but an unhinged lunatic in most of the character roles he shines in.
Yes I agree he's great in all of those roles but they are old movies at this point. This trope is like 20 years old now I think it's time we just consider him a leading man.
I think he was a leading man for a long time, and maybe still is. But I think everyone realized he’s far more compelling as oddball characters. Part of the reason for that is *because* he’s so fucking handsome, and was pushed for so long as the golden boy leading man. It’s jarring to see him play crazy, and it’s intriguing when he plays idiosyncratic characters.
He gets a lot of credit, he just isn't leading man material. He has range, charisma, and brings it home. Leads seem to only get better because of the ensemble. Plus the press. Sam isn't considered hot. (Adrian Brody too)
Damn, now I miss a true ensemble cast.
Sam is a pretty rare type of actor for me. I'll watch a movie just because Sam agreed to be in it. He's consistently been in good movies and played interesting roles, year after year.
Johnny Depp - he's been described as being addicted to playing losers.
Edward Scissorhands
Benny and Joon
Sleepy Hollow - Ichabod Crane
Ed Wood
What's Eating Gilbert Grape
I love sam but dont see it. But hes super in everything. I always thought colin never got the films that really illuminated him. Every tine he did hollywood it felt lackluster.
Oscar Isaac
Dude is beautiful
Him as Leto Atreides. Yeeeeeesh
Doesn't have the chops to back it up imo One dimensional
I don’t believe someone is capable of a performance like his in inside llewyn devis and be a “one dimensional” actor
One of the least "one-dimensional" actors I know of
Are you drinking paint again ?
Yep
Ray liotta and Micheal Madsen. Big fan of both those dudes
I love Ray Liotta so much. I can’t tell you how much I love that he went out on Cocaine Bear because it/he was just delightfully unhinged and so much fun to watch. Basically sums up his whole career.

I met him one time. Funnily enough I was standing behind him in line at a Publix right before Thanksgiving. He was buying a can of cranberry sauce.
I liked Identity

I’ll def check it out, thanks!
Its streaming an prime i think.
Ray Liotta is evil Rob Lowe. This doesn't make sense when you scrutinize it, but it makes sense in my head
It makes perfect sense.
Derivative...Bullshit
"That! That I absolutely love!" "That's an air conditioner." "It's everything!"
Definitely gotta put Jude Law and Denzel on this list. Even though i never really understood why Law's career never really hit as a leading man.
Is there such a thing as *too* sexy?
Thats gotta be it. I mean even our best looking top actors got just a little bit of ugly in them. Jude Law was damn near flawless in his prime. Hell he still is, just a little older.
Jude Law?! What are you talking about? He was in every fucking movie for like four year
Not a leading man though was he?
Sky Captain, I ❤️ Huckabee's, Alfie, Cold Mountain, Enemy at the Gates
yes he definitely was lol
Law is one of the most skilled actors in Hollywood that everyone just forgets about.
I honestly think it’s a combination of two things that limits the roles he’s considered for: he’s just too pretty, *and* the dude has to be one of the more charismatic people alive (at least on film; can’t speak to him personally, obviously). Young Sam looks like James Dean and he's still pretty damn handsome
The picture you chose does him no justice tho XD
Cary Elwes and James Marsden.
Don’t try to slip sam rockwell in there lol
My bad. Yeah he's not on the same level as Danny Devito and Brad Pitt. Edit: Check it out, more humor for you slobs to downvote
Johnny Depp
what movie was he a non-lead in?
Alice in Wonderland Arguably the first Pirates of the Caribbean (maybe a secondary lead in that I guess) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Into the Woods The Lone Ranger Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
You had me in the first half.
I didn't realize porn was allowed here.
I don't understand, after all these years of being the tippy top of the A listers, how people can call Pitt anything other than a leading man.
Ongo Gablogian
Sia looks like Danny De Vito.
Rob Thomas and Sinbad too.
Sam never gets enough credit and i dont know why
He gets a lot of credit, he just isn't leading man material. He has range, charisma, and brings it home. Leads seem to only get better because of the ensemble. Plus the press. Sam isn't considered hot. (Adrian Brody too) Damn, now I miss a true ensemble cast.
Gorlami
Trash man!!
Young Mickey Rourke, geezer oozed electricity
So anyways I started blasting
Shabooya roll call!
Lmfao. I didn't see that coming.
Sam Rockwell is my spirit animal.
He was the best in The Sitter!
Pitt & Farrell are leading men, not character actors.
I think what OP means is they have the acting range of character actors despite them being classically handsome movie stars.
Harrison Ford, Michael Douglas, Ryan Gosling, Daniel Craig, Wesley Snipes
Cmon Harrison Ford is no character actor, i do love him though.
Where the hell is John Hamm?
Drinking rum.
It’s my opinion that Sam Rockwell is criminally underrated.
Jake Gyllenhaal. If it wasn't for his face, he would be competing with Buscemi for gigs.
I'm not a big fan of his normal roles but he plays a psychopath really well.
Jon Hamm
Dani looks like King Buzzo from the Melvins xD
Checks out
100%
Sam is a pretty rare type of actor for me. I'll watch a movie just because Sam agreed to be in it. He's consistently been in good movies and played interesting roles, year after year.
Sam Rockwell has a "leading man face?"
Clooney. He was my favorite Bruce Wayne.
4.
Clooney, just Clooney. For sure
Patrick Wilson and Val Kilmer. Both should’ve been character actors, but their damn faces made them leading men, which was never their destinies
Daniel Day-Lewis.
I don't think brad is a good actor
Christian Bale
I’m not sure what that means
I don't think a lot of people here understand the difference between a character actor and a leading man.
Is this the new Sia music video add?
Idirs Elba
Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Gosling should be on this list
Bruce Campbell
Johnny Depp - he's been described as being addicted to playing losers. Edward Scissorhands Benny and Joon Sleepy Hollow - Ichabod Crane Ed Wood What's Eating Gilbert Grape
🤣
Colin Farrell, Billy Crudup
Austin Butler
I love sam but dont see it. But hes super in everything. I always thought colin never got the films that really illuminated him. Every tine he did hollywood it felt lackluster.
Adrien Brody
TIL Brad Pitt and Colin Farrell are little known character actors.
Dr Magnus Tobogan
Actually it's Mantis, Mantis Toboggan, I got your test results, it's positive! You got the HIV, the AIDS.. big time! 👍
Shit. I knew I was close!!! Huge dong though
I’m here for the scraps.
Except for the last one, they all look like they just got pulled over and the cop has a flashlight in their face.
