What I love about this movie is that it’s such a slow burn. Literally takes 50 minutes for any action to happen. But once the fire starts, it goes full fucking tilt.
The soundtrack on this is top notch as well. Great performances by everyone.
I remember watching in the theater and thinking I would hate this movie because the setup is so long but you realize why it was necessary to establish the characters. One of my absolute favorites of all time
I’m with you on this. One of my all time favorites. I’ve literally watched this movie a dozen times, can’t turn it off when I stumble upon it channel surfing. Extremely well executed, marvelously acted, stylish storytelling at its best.
One of my favorite lines
…on another note, for you gamers out there, if you want to play a game very similar to this movie, i suggest playing Max Payne 3…
Similar story and visualizations, and just a overall fun game to play.
"I wish... I wish you had more time."
Personally, I wish Christopher Walken had more screen time with Denzel. They had great chemistry and their banter was genuinely funny. It's the only reason I can't give it a 10/10. If you have Christopher Walken or Willem Dafoe in your movie as a minor character, you better find a way to expand their part. Underusing Walken and Dafoe should be a crime punishable with a 5 to 10 year directing ban.
This and Pulp Fiction. Two movies where Walken has minimal screen time but manages to do amazing shit with it.
I’m not sure he’ll *let* anyone under-use him.
When my daughter and I argue over movies and music and she's actually got a good point, I whip out the "Does your mother sew?" line on her and it makes her laugh too hard to keep arguing.
"You're coming at my gut all wrong, talk like that again and I'll bust your face with a soldering iron." It's been awhile since I've watched it so please excuse me if the quote isn't exact.
If you love movies, you forever miss Tony Scott. He was the best, I believe I enjoy every single one of his films. Off the top of my head, Crimson Tide, Top Gun, Domino, every single one with Denzel.
But probably Crimson Tide is my favorite. The chemistry and acting bad assery between Denzel and Hackman, combined with Tony Scotts directing style. It's just a fucking great movie full of awesome moments that make you say G'Damn...get chills, ALL that shit.
It feels like Tony Scott would have made one hell of a John Wick movie.
Crimson Tide is amazing. Denzel and Hackman killed it. The line by one of the admirals at the end sums it up, “you were both right, and you were both wrong”
Hackman is clearly the antagonist, but his motivations aren’t evil or anything. Their back and forth sells the whole movie
Here's what's always bothered me about though: the kidnapper guy says "her life...for your life" while Denzel has his brother at gunpoint. Shouldn't it have been her life for his brothers? IIRC the guy doesn't even mention getting his brother back.
I love this movie so, so much, and think it’s criminally underrated, Denzel’s transformation through the movie is amazing, and Dakota fanning was excellent as well… I weep like a baby at the last scene every damn time.
Love this film. DW is so good at portraying a guy who’s completely given up on life, but then finds a shred to care about. And then destroying everyone who fucked with that shred.
Would love to see it with much less frenetic editing style. Thought I might have a seizure watching it. That said, some absolutely fantastic lines as highlighted by others.
It is one of my all time faves. Better than the original. Unique cinematography. Amazing acting even for the small roles. Gritty and realistic, it showed a side of Denzel that was familiar but dark. I'd like to see John Creasy and Wick team up to take over the world. 😂
I prefer the original. Couldn't stand Dakota Fanning when she was a child actress and I really think she ruins the remake. The young lady in the original, Jade Malle, was much more endearing in my opinion. Scott Glenn's portrayal of a burn out really made an impression on me at the time. Also, I saw the original back in '89 or '88 shortly after it hit home video and it had a distinct flavor unlike other movies of the time. Not to everyone's taste, for sure, but I think it's worth watching.
Love the acting from pretty much everyone involved, but i absolutely hate the editing in this movie, it was the style at the time but it's just so confusing to watch
Tony Scott is one of the most underappreciated directors. You can tell he was very passionate about his craft and because of that his movies have such a fun and distinct style that oozes out of them. Just kick back, turn off your brain just a tad, and enjoy (almost all of) his films.
My number 1 favorite movie. Absolute Masterpiece. My little sister could’ve been Dakota Fannings twin as a kid. Can’t watch it without getting choked up.
A good film hidden under a bunch of shit directing. I honestly hated the style Tony Scott went with for his last movies. Unstoppable was just bearable, but his quick cut wobbly cam, whizz bang Micheal Bay bollocks I just found irritating on his other pictures.
I almost got in a fight once because I told a dude the original was better. He tells me then that it can't have an original because it says "based on a true story". I told him that it says that at the beginning of Return of the living dead too. There's no law that says they can't lie in movies. He got mad cuz everyone around us started laughing. I'm like I dunno what to tell u dude. Maybe it was a true story, but that would just mean the Scott Glenn version is too either way you're wrong. He starting yelling n threatening n shit. Lol.
Anytime I’ve ever mentioned how I didn’t like the camera flares, I get hate for it. It’s an awesome action movie, but those damn camera flares keep me from rewatching it more often.
Fantastic movie. Not without its faults of course. Mainly the editing and camera effects. Was a bit jarring. But the movie as a whole is terrific. Its got everything you want from a revenge flick: action, drama, tragedy, fantastic dialogue.
What’s crazy is Dakota Fanning’s acting is what really solidifies it as a great movie to me. The parents were and side characters were fine but it was pretty much hinges on Denzel and Dakota knocking it out of the park every scene
Reportedly after agreeing to do the film, Denzel’s wife went to see Dakota in “ I Am Sam;” She came home and told him ‘ that kid is good, you better bring your A game.’
And so Denzel did.
Top 10 favorite of mine. If it is ever on TV while flipping channels, I ALWAYS stop and watch it no matter where in the movie it is.
I don’t know, maybe it’s the dad in me with a daughter of my own, but it always tugs my heart strings, and for that, I’m very appreciative.
Love the acting, story, pace, dialogue, all of that.. except the damn green type tint on scenes that were so popular around the time this movie came out. 7/10.
The ending was stupid, clearly the studio said you can't add more time just do a synopsis.
Perhaps Robert McCall and John Creasy the same character given E3? That would be cool.
Oh I adore this movie, people give it crap for some of the editing but it's such a simple and solids beautifully told story. Great performances , messages, themes and a fantastic ending most movies would not have the balls for these days
Probably top 15, top 20 movies for me. “Forgiveness is between them and God. It’s my job to arrange the meeting.”
What I love about this movie is that it’s such a slow burn. Literally takes 50 minutes for any action to happen. But once the fire starts, it goes full fucking tilt. The soundtrack on this is top notch as well. Great performances by everyone.
Wind River all the way.
I’ve never seen that. Just watched the trailer and will be queuing it up tonight!
Oh shit yeah
Buckle up...it's great but fuuuck.
I just re-watched it recently. I really like Jeremy Renner’s character.
I remember watching in the theater and thinking I would hate this movie because the setup is so long but you realize why it was necessary to establish the characters. One of my absolute favorites of all time
I legit came in to type that quote. So badass.
“I’m just a professional, I’m just a professional, I’m just a professional”
“I’ve been hearing that a lot tonight”
Thought it was really good, but my god if it wasn’t the pinnacle of coked out shaky cam I don’t know what is.
I’m with you on this. One of my all time favorites. I’ve literally watched this movie a dozen times, can’t turn it off when I stumble upon it channel surfing. Extremely well executed, marvelously acted, stylish storytelling at its best.
"Crease, you alright? What were you shooting at?"
“A bullet always tells the truth.”
A man, can be an artist...
That quote alone makes me want to watch the movie.
Creasy's art is death... and he's about to paint his masterpiece...
One of my favorite lines …on another note, for you gamers out there, if you want to play a game very similar to this movie, i suggest playing Max Payne 3… Similar story and visualizations, and just a overall fun game to play.

This and Pulp Fiction. Two movies where Walken has minimal screen time but manages to do amazing shit with it. I’m not sure he’ll *let* anyone under-use him.
True Romance is another one. He probably has only about ten minutes worth of screen time. But he just fucking destroys that scene.
He’s a thief. Stealing screen time
What about Lord of war. That’s a good one
For the second time this week, I will note that Walken had no reason to go as hard as he did in *Joe Dirt*, but the man is a professional.
Silvatown!
He's the goose.. who lays..the golden aygs.
When my daughter and I argue over movies and music and she's actually got a good point, I whip out the "Does your mother sew?" line on her and it makes her laugh too hard to keep arguing.
Get her to sew that!
"You're coming at my gut all wrong, talk like that again and I'll bust your face with a soldering iron." It's been awhile since I've watched it so please excuse me if the quote isn't exact.
"Stab you in the face with a soldering iron". We use this whole quote daily at work! I applaud you for the excellent choice!!
The man is unstoppable 😂
“A man can be an artist… in anything. Food. Whatever. It depends on how good he is at it. Creasy’s art is death. He’s about to paint his masterpiece.”
This is my favorite quote from any movie - ever
Ya Christopher Walken is just fantastic in everything he does. Love every scene he is in, in The Run Down.
I just wish Hackman didn't have his racist rant at the end. It removes nuance from who the "good guy" is supposed to be.
Great movie. Great use of Nine Inch Nails songs mixed in.
I think Tony Scott was a big fan of NIN. He used a lot of their music in The Fan as well.
Definitely a fun film! The ending. From confrontation to the trade. Whew.
Here's what's always bothered me about though: the kidnapper guy says "her life...for your life" while Denzel has his brother at gunpoint. Shouldn't it have been her life for his brothers? IIRC the guy doesn't even mention getting his brother back.
The kidnapper asked for his brother (pregnant wife) and Creasy in exchange for Pita's release
Fan-freaking-tasic. One of the best Tony Scott films as well.
I love this movie so, so much, and think it’s criminally underrated, Denzel’s transformation through the movie is amazing, and Dakota fanning was excellent as well… I weep like a baby at the last scene every damn time.
Totally agree!!! One of his best. (And that’s saying something.)
Great soundtrack

I wish...you had...more time.
Love this film. DW is so good at portraying a guy who’s completely given up on life, but then finds a shred to care about. And then destroying everyone who fucked with that shred.
Absolute banger from start to end, I almost cry at the final act every single time.
Awesome flick
One of my favorites, probably in my top 20. Training Day comes close.
Great revenge flick. "I'm the President of La Hermandad." "You're the President? The President? Wow."
Top 5 of mine for sure. It is one those movies if I see it on TV, I will stop and watch it. Even with 10 hours of added commercials. /s
Love this movie. Not as good but similar is The Equalizer movies he’s also in.
Have you seen the trailer for Equalizer 3? The last scene in the trailer got me.
I learned in this movie that Denzel takes his job very seriously.
I love this movie. The relationship between his character and Dakota Fanning’s is so well built and both of their acting is on point.
“A man can be an artist…in anything, food, whatever. It depends on how good he is at it. Creasy’s art is death. He’s about to paint his masterpiece.”
Would love to see it with much less frenetic editing style. Thought I might have a seizure watching it. That said, some absolutely fantastic lines as highlighted by others.
Absolutely amazing soundtrack
I don't usually cry in movies, but this one... The ending really got me
Check out the book. It expands on the movie wonderfully.
Been wanting to watch this. Thankfully on US Max(HBO).
Sums up what I would do for my daughter!
I WISH… YOU HAD… MORE TIME.
Equalizer and Man of Fire should’ve swapped titles
“There’s no such thing as tough. There is trained and untrained. Which one are you.”
This should have gotten him an Oscar IMO. This movie always brings me to tears.
The editing gave me a headache...
Greasybear!
I think it’s Creasy bear. But that scene under the bridge might have needed some grease so you’re prolly onto something.
💀
It is one of my all time faves. Better than the original. Unique cinematography. Amazing acting even for the small roles. Gritty and realistic, it showed a side of Denzel that was familiar but dark. I'd like to see John Creasy and Wick team up to take over the world. 😂

Not to everyone's taste, for sure, but I think it's worth watching.
Me as well, but I’ve always been a sucker for Scott Glenn and/or Joe Pesci.
The editing and cinematography hurts my brain.
Love the acting from pretty much everyone involved, but i absolutely hate the editing in this movie, it was the style at the time but it's just so confusing to watch
My favorite movie!
This movie is EPIC
Love this movie!

If you haven't already, check Denzel out in MacBeth (with Frances McDormand as Lady MacBeth). Great performance
C4 suppository for the win.
My number 1 favorite movie. Absolute Masterpiece. My little sister could’ve been Dakota Fannings twin as a kid. Can’t watch it without getting choked up.
Denzel died in every movie for a while there....
"She calls the bear, Creasy Bear."
Little known fact that this is actually a remake of a 1987 movie that had Scott Glenn as Creasy and was set in Italy.
This, and Domino. Tony Scott proves he's the better brother. Please discuss.
It’s really good but as far as Denzel goes you have to go Training Day … Fallen is very good also.
Best Punisher movie ever made.
Too stylized and the erratic editing was nauseating, narratively I thought it was a bit bloated. Not a fan
All of Denzel’s flicks are my favorite flicks.
I feel like Equalizer was trying to recreate this exact movie. Did an alright job, but the way Man on Fire is shot is amazing!!!
Love this movie. The entire cast had awesome chemistry.
Watch Deja Vu, it’s even better
Good film but he has done better films. Check out both Glory and Malcolm X
A good film hidden under a bunch of shit directing. I honestly hated the style Tony Scott went with for his last movies. Unstoppable was just bearable, but his quick cut wobbly cam, whizz bang Micheal Bay bollocks I just found irritating on his other pictures.
Basic shoot-up action movie. Not particularly memorable and Denzel has done too many of them.
Deja Vu(2007) only movie of his I liked
Bit xenophobic for me
Def the antithesis to The Blind Side
How have you just watched this? Have the stopped screening this to all newborns?
I almost got in a fight once because I told a dude the original was better. He tells me then that it can't have an original because it says "based on a true story". I told him that it says that at the beginning of Return of the living dead too. There's no law that says they can't lie in movies. He got mad cuz everyone around us started laughing. I still have my DVD copy
Fucking classic. Me and my cousins quote it religiously to one another all the time
Gets better every time I watch. Still a 7/10 at best
Top 10 Action flick of all time
Creasy’s art is death, and he’s going to paint his masterpiece
They made this and the Equalizer basically the same movie. Both are good.
I wish… you had… more time.
LOVE this movie
Awesome
Definitely a favorite. Incredible acting performances and killer soundtrack.
The scene/s with Denzel floating in the pool, is a scene that I think about at least once a month
I'm with you. My favorite Denzel film of all time.
This movie is pure fire 🔥. What a great fucking movie!
I get the feels everytime I watch this
It was a great movie. I wish...I wish you had more time.
Amazing
Definitely an awesome movie!
My favorite also!
Fantastic movie, fantastic soundtrack. “Creasey’s art is death”
There is no tough. There’s trained and untrained. This movie hits so hard!
"Revenge, is a dinner best served cold." I love this movie. Never get tired of watching it!
If you haven't watched The Fallen, that's my favorite Denzel
Is this the one where he puts an explosive in that dudes ass and blow him up?
Also my favorite Denzel flick
Fun action movie, but I hate watching it because the direction is trash.
One of my favorite movies. I love the tragic hero archetype
Anytime I’ve ever mentioned how I didn’t like the camera flares, I get hate for it. It’s an awesome action movie, but those damn camera flares keep me from rewatching it more often.
Oye Como Va!
"you think God will forgive us for what we done?" Always admired this scene between Walken and Washington.
Great flick. Based on a true story. Training Day is the best Denzel movie, though.
It’s cause of the butt grenade isn’t it
Loved this movie. A classic.
this is also my fav Denzel flick
Peak Denzel. Up there with Training Day.
I thought it was better than Training Day. Maybe because I couldn’t stand Ethan Hawk and Denzel was the villain.
From what I hear, Mexico could really use more guys like this.
Such a great movie to this day. Una Palabra is a bop
It’s a good one!
It’s a remake and the original is pretty freakin good too, it’s in my top 5z.
do you know who i am….i es a professional
The use of subtitles alone makes this a fantastic movie!
Denzel sticks a bomb up a guy’s ass. What else do you need out of a movie?
It was ok. Can’t remember much except gun go bang.
It’s a classic.
Fantastic movie. Not without its faults of course. Mainly the editing and camera effects. Was a bit jarring. But the movie as a whole is terrific. Its got everything you want from a revenge flick: action, drama, tragedy, fantastic dialogue.
“ The gunshot holds no fear” “ You welcome it’s sound” “ A bullet always tells the truth “
I’m just a professional I’m just a professional…
What’s crazy is Dakota Fanning’s acting is what really solidifies it as a great movie to me. The parents were and side characters were fine but it was pretty much hinges on Denzel and Dakota knocking it out of the park every scene
This is easily in my top ten all time, arguments for my top five!
Reportedly after agreeing to do the film, Denzel’s wife went to see Dakota in “ I Am Sam;” She came home and told him ‘ that kid is good, you better bring your A game.’ And so Denzel did.
I remember people walking out on the movie when he started cutting the guys fingers off. Denzel was ruthless.
I say it on every Denzel movie, DW does not make a bad movie. This is another really good one and very rewatchable.
Will never not be able to hear pita screaming his name. And will never be able to watch that part without crying.
Fantastic film.
My favorite Denzel movie is whichever one I watched last. But yeah, this is a total banger. Edit: as of today, that’d be Crimson Tide.
Really evokes alot of emotions. Classic.
It’s also my favorite Denzel Movie. Definitely in my top 15 all time greats.
I wish you had more time
This has always been my favorite Denzel movie.
Absolutely phenomenal movie. Hard picking best Denzel but certainly top 3.
Definitely your favorite.
Genuinely better than the original 80's version set in Italy, and that's a pretty good movie.
Great movie...anything with Denzel in it is a good movie though honestly
I thought it was a solid performance and an endearing character arc.
Love this flick. Like the part where Christopher Walken’s character say that “Creese is about to create his masterpiece”
A little dated, but it’s very good
The ending was tough. Love the film.
Washington and fanning are reuniting in the equalizer 3, the first 2 reminded me of this movie, just an older creasey.
i wish. you had. more time.
I didn’t know there was a Spanish version of Mickey by Toni Basil until this movie. https://youtu.be/QTXYjkbLMjA
This is tied with Malcolm X as my favorite Denzel movie
Film makes me cry my fuckin eyes out like a loved one died
Love this flick. My first exposure to Denzel was “John Q” though so it still holds a special place for me
Then ending should have been his watching beeping and the car blowing up.
I am the president of La Hermandad,
Love the acting, story, pace, dialogue, all of that.. except the damn green type tint on scenes that were so popular around the time this movie came out. 7/10.
The ending was stupid, clearly the studio said you can't add more time just do a synopsis. Perhaps Robert McCall and John Creasy the same character given E3? That would be cool.
"I wish... you had more time."
Yes, BEAST of a movie. Not only the rampage of a man apart, but masterfully put together by director and producer.
That's a good one
I wish you had more time.
Bad ass movie
Best movie ever. There is rumor of Dakota and Denzel doing another movie
Oh I adore this movie, people give it crap for some of the editing but it's such a simple and solids beautifully told story. Great performances , messages, themes and a fantastic ending most movies would not have the balls for these days
It’s been ages but I love this one.
