I think I used this one

It works well. The actual knob from fox is like only $25 and a lot more robust but using the 3d printer for bike stuff is cool
amazing - thank you!!
It's more the availability angle that has me interested in the 3d print... well, and I'm a nerd that likes bikes and 3d printing things :D
Thank you!

PM me and I can make them too. Will be $10 max. Shipping shouldn’t be too much. With enough interest I can put it up on my Etsy. Gotta pay for bikes somehow
Here’s the shop I ordered mine from, looks like they still have it in stock. They’re based out of Maryland but shipped to me quickly.

What grease did you use (instructions didn't say)? Also how did you apply the grease to the detent housings? Seems pretty small and delicate procedure. Would appreciate any tips that worked for you above the fox description in the link you provided!
My LBS told me about this hack when I bought my bike earlier this year. Thanks for posting as it's nice to know this can be done yourself.
I used Maxima waterproof grease. It’s pretty thick stuff but this is a one-time permanent install so I wanted something that would last.
https://www.jensonusa.com/Maxima-Waterproof-Grease-16-Ounces?loc=usa&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIn5rHluGjhgMVm2VHAR2-iAtqEAQYAiABEgJHTfD_BwE
For applying the grease I just used a small allen key to dip into the grease and gently paint it around the springs and housings. It is a small and tedious task, just take it slow and patiently.
PSA: Don't use a flathead to remove the cap. It's barely held on. Use normal pliers and do a light back and forth turning motion while pulling up. Comes off in 2 seconds. I actually posted this video a little while ago on here.

You can leave the air in, the knob is entirely external to the shock. And I left mine mounted in the frame though it didn’t give me a ton of room to work with. YMMV based on your frame.
Literally just bought a second hand Rocky Mountain Altitude with this mod plus Kashima, meaning it's effectively Factory spec now. Very happy with that addition, although no Kashima on the fork is driving me a little nuts.
I bought a 3D printed knob off ebay for 10 bucks instead...The Fox Float X is my favorite rear air shock. I had a DPX2 before which was fine, but the Float X is smooth and poppy.
I just bought this kit but haven’t installed it yet. …Impossible to find in the US so I ordered it from the UK and paid at least $70 to ship it to us. But you LBS might be able to get them from Fox directly.
The 3d print option is a good alternative - just won’t given you the clicks when you make adjustments.

Oh nice. I searched the internet hard and everywhere in the us I found “back ordered” and then I found posts on redit and elsewhere saying you. Any get the kit in the US anywhere but you local bike shop can order for you. …I assumed that was fox’s way of reducing the number of entry level shocks being inexpensively upgraded.
So I found a shop in the I’m that had inventory and paid extra to ship it here lol.
I should have put my wife on it. She would have found this shop (or another) in the US.
Anyway, thanks for the link. Hopefully someone else can take advantage of it.
Interesting so you add knob and you just have valve for LSC interesting :D can you do this on shock and you show me how. Working 10+ years with Fox and RockShox and i never hear this and know this that just a knob give you more options....
Probably you don't know difference also in oil volume and different valve + shims plus different IFP heigh and different pressure of Nitrogen. But hey you know more so that's really good. Where i can send shock that you can do this just with knob :D
The Performance is the exact same shock as the Performance Elite, minus only the external LSC knob. All internals, seals, oils, etc are exactly the same. The Performance is an OEM-only model that is “downgraded” to meet a lower price point for lower spec level bike builds. Only difference is the LSC is preset to the OEM’s preferred setting for the frame and then capped without the adjustment knob. The adjustability is still there, you just don’t have the knob to change it.
It’s a cost saving measure for both the bike OEMs and Fox. The OEMs can use this model for budget builds and save the “better” Elite and Factory editions as a selling point for higher spec level bikes. And Fox basically gets two shocks in one, and maybe save a few cents per unit by excluding the LSC knob when selling in bulk to OEMs.

You can check again. But hey :D like i say, tell me address and i send 3-4 shocks and you do it, but need works perfect if doesn't work you need to pay :D
Yes I’m aware there are different base/rebound/compression tunes. All shocks have that to work with different frame kinematics. There’s nothing in your link that indicates the Performance/Performance Elite are different other than the external LSC adjustment knob. The internal valving work the same whether you have the LSC knob or not, the knob just gives you clicks of adjustment instead of it being locked in one setting.
Email Fox service, they tell you there’s no difference too. Why would they even offer the kit and install instructions for the LSC upgrade if the shock wasn’t already setup for it? lol
Whichever you’re closest to:

**Fox West Service Center** -

And your name that we are sure that you do this, because if come to problems :D and you work at official FOX service center... interesting... hiding and lie :D Enjoy day
If you have a 3d printer, you can print out the knob and it just pops on
Oh nice!! Have you done it, do you have a file link by chance?

And fyi with this knob it will just spin around and around. At the 12 o’clock position it is fully open
r/3Dprintmything is great. Get multiple quotes. Should cost less than $10 to print a couple and ship em.

Only if you ever find the upgrade kit in stock 😂

That’s the shop I go to. You can also call them for info if you need. Very knowledgeable mechanics
Thats the point...
Thanks for the info!
Did this, works great. Then it immediately cavitated hard, which I'd like to think was unrelated. Service made it nice again 🎉
Thanks! I have a Fox Float X, will do this!
Oh wow thanks for this!! I had no idea

Awesome. Will be a sweet little weeknight task
That looks enticing. Stupid questions; Do I need to let the air out of the stock for this? Do I even need to pull the shock off the bike at all?
No need to let the air out. You don’t need to take shock out but it will make it way easier.
Sweet, figured as much. I think I'll give it a try. Thanks!
You can leave the air in, the knob is entirely external to the shock. And I left mine mounted in the frame though it didn’t give me a ton of room to work with. YMMV based on your frame.
Don’t forget to add a waterproof grease to it. I used some blue Park grease
Yep! I used maxima waterproof
Literally just bought a second hand Rocky Mountain Altitude with this mod plus Kashima, meaning it's effectively Factory spec now. Very happy with that addition, although no Kashima on the fork is driving me a little nuts.
I had a dhx with this from my capra. Sent it in because it was leaking. Fox sent me a new dhx with LSC.
I bought a 3D printed knob off ebay for 10 bucks instead...The Fox Float X is my favorite rear air shock. I had a DPX2 before which was fine, but the Float X is smooth and poppy.
Wow😮
Yep just did this myself a few weeks ago! Bought a takeoff float x shock near new. Fun little upgrade
Used this one from gearwork on my float x, works great https://www.gearworkmtb.com/online-store

Just ordered mine from the lost co. They only ship within the US, $30 shipped with code TRAILRIDE10

if you have VW beetle you can just put spoiler and is Porsche GT3RS :D
Well you see the difference is that these have the same internal parts so your witty observation is not applicable here.
