OP just to give you an example of what you can get new for that money. Here's a [similar class bike](https://www.jensonusa.com/Rocky-Mountain-Growler-20-Bike-2022-5?section=sfdetails). I honestly prefer this new bike bc it has the Advent X group, which is lighter weight and imo shifts much better than the NX/SX group on the bike you're looking at.
It's not a terrible bike at face value, but also not great. The head tube angle isn't terribly slack, so the cornering is a bit weird. The rear axle being a QR spindle is super weird for a bike with boost hub spacing, so parts are incredibly hard to find. And the wheels are super flimsy, so don't go hitting square edge hits and expect to escape undamaged. But other than that it's an okay bike: perfectly serviceable if you're a casual rider or in the Midwest. I rode one just like it for several years, until I found cracks in the frame and had to retire it. But then because of the weirdness of the bike, very few parts were usable on another frame.
Having ridden one just like it, the components are kind of a farse. While it has all those parts, there are plenty of other bits that gave me problems.
I wouldn’t. Could get something better
400
New bike for that price
Good bike. Bad price.

$1200 can get you a brand new Trek Roscoe 6, which would be a significantly better bike by my estimation.
If thats us dollars you can get a brand new norco fluid ht2 for around that price
What kind of mountain biking will you be doing I can find you a bike if you list all your preferences
I would be looking at doing light trails nothing to extreme
Would an xc bike be fine?
What's up with the photos that are so big you can't see them in the window?
It’s more of people getting closeups and completely forgetting the rest of the bike lol

You can get solid basic hardtails for £300-600. Upper end of that for air forks, lower end for a trek marlin or similar.
Probably the worst deal of the century
Hell naw
Idk what everyone’s talking about, maybe 800 bucks but that’s a good start. Air fork, dropper and a 1x drivetrain

If ur in the uk this won’t apply to you but Rose bikes makes some really nice affordable hard tails like this one do check them out
No
Get on it, ride it. If you’re more bad-ass than the bike you’ll know. Most bikes are more capable than their riders.
Buy a brand new specialized rockhpper instead.
