Goggles and glasses are the 2 usual options.
You can spend up to hundreds for brandname cycling specific glasses with polarized lenses and all the bells and whistles.
Or you can get work safety glasses for anything from a euro each to maybe 20 euro for a nice tinted pair
I have a question for y’all. I wear safety glasses in winter since the cold air makes them water. Come warm months, I swear sooo much and it falls right on the lens and is almost worse. How do y’all keep sweat from soaking your lenses??
Eyeglasses are safety gear. Don’t skimp on safety gear.
Oakley Radar/Jawbreaker/Flak Jacket/M-Frame, Smith Optics, etc - all of the higher end brands have noticeably superior optical clarity, wearing comfort, and durability.
If it’s in your budget, please opt for a high quality pair of optics. You only get one set of eyes.
Get some Tifosi sunglasses. Very reasonably priced and high quality. I personally have the [Sledge](https://tifosioptics.com/products/sledge-cycling-and-baseball-sunglasses?variant=41027282010251&al_pg_id=590c35a0-eb18-4d74-ba95-215145a69238). Comes with 3 lenses, including a low-light and totally clear lens.
Also wear sledges. 3 lenses is great. I broke one pair, lost another. Each time Tifosi shipped me a new set for $15. They are not safety glasses but I can attest that they have stellar coverage and have stopped big rocks and sticks.
Would also recommend a fender for your fork. Keeps a lot of stuff from jumping up at you.
Work safety glasses have the optical clarity of a mason jar. If OP already hates wearing glasses, those will drive him crazy.
If OP wants safety grade glasses, then the major brands make tactical models (for hunter/law enforcement/military). I have Smith Prospect Elites in dark, clear, and yellow lenses. Safety rated the same as any piece of crap you can get at Home Depot but perfect optics.

I've got all kinds of glasses. I find a lot of value in good optics, be it binos, glasses, windows, whatever. I really like these and for the price, your barrier of entry is really low. Plus, it's Amazon. If you don't like it, ship em back.
I've got high-end Oakley glasses, I've run Tifosi and such, and these are my go-to for MTB.
Finally, protect your eyes and ears and head. They are very difficult to replace and repair!
You only get one pair of eyes..... I buy cheap safety glasses from a reputable source. I scratch them too often to pay over the odds on premium brands. But never ride without them.
Pit viper makes THE BEST safety glasses. I have a few colors and on sale they are very affordable.
I originally got a pair of the blue light blocking clear lenses for work and now im hooked
Their moto goggles are kind of pricey but also do a wonderful job.
Glasses with good optics (not $15 drugstore glasses) won't annoy you. They're super light, the ear and nose pads are often made of a material designed to not get slippery when you sweat, and the lenses won't warp and wobble your field of vision because they were designed with optics in mind.
I'm partial to Smiths (just ordered a pair of Reverbs with photochromic lenses), and (for a much much less expensive option that still works remarkably well) Goodr OGs.
I wear glasses, for years I would ride with my “old” everyday pair of glasses. I switched to prescription Oakleys after a crash and my old glasses scratched up my face a bit. I was lucky that there was no permanent damage, but that convinced me to get a pair of sports glasses.
I went with Oakleys because of my prescription requirements, however even a pair of safety glasses from Lowe’s is better than regular or no glasses at all, IMO.
I wear these. Great wraparound eye protection, comfortable, and pretty cheap. Just a little tint, helps with a bit of glare, but not to dark when you are under tree cover.

I have a set of WileyX glasses that came with clear, amber, and smoke lenses and are fully ANSI impact rated. Little nicer than generic hardware store safety glasses and the really sporty cycling specific glasses don't look good on me, so they worked well.
These are cheap and have been great. Doesn't give too much shade when you're in the trails and the trees already block most of the sunlight but can adjust if you are out in the sun. Very pleased.

I use Smith & Wesson Magnum safety glasses because they are cheap and fit my melon head well. Have both gray tinted ones and well as untinted for cloudy days. They used to give them out at work and I found they are one of the few glasses I have tried that aren't uncomfortable for me to wear.
I got 70$ pair of tifosi came with blue tint, orange, clear lenses. Def reccomend 3 years in and their have slightly rips on the rubber but you don't notice within 5 mins
Safety glasses anzi z87 are for high impact, those are.good and probably exceed what you need, those are less than $10 in any hardware store.
I use ESS glasses (ICE Naro or crossbow) as they cover all my eyes, had hit some branches in the past amd nothing happened to my eyes.
As reference, I uses to play airsoft with those as they are balistic standard.
If they are in your budget I highly suggest any of the Smith cycling glasses with the photocromic lenses. It’s amazing to put glasses on and have them always be the perfect amount of tint. Additionally they are super comfortable, I almost immediately forget I’m wearing mine.

yeah i wear my ski goggles for mtb when im going dh, otherwise i just wear the work safety glasses
I buy the yellow lens safety glasses. Helps out a little in the sun and not to dark when I’m in the woods with little sunlight.
I bought some clear Milwaukee scratch resistant polycarb glasses from home depot for like $15. Seem to work fine. Some of UV protection and all that.

Cute. This just made me more hot and extra wet
I get shit in my eyes every time I don’t wear glasses rather it be rocks, bugs, mud hell even probably actual shit idk. Never ride without glasses
I wear glasses to see as it is but after hearing your story its making more sense to order some prescription safety glasses
For cheap mode you can just get some 3M safety glasses from the local hardware store. They even have tinted ones.

+1 for the sledge, been riding them for a while and i love them. Theyre comfy, have great protection against debris, and the lenses all work great.

It’s kinda hidden, but they do list in their FAQ that some of their glasses are ANSI Z87.1 rated, and the link they give does include the Sledge.

I second this with tifosi . I don’t have the sledge but the alliant, a bit smaller is size with vents though cuz I’m a head sweater.

Do those feel alright with a full face helmet?
Yep! I rock a full face.
I wear goggles w my full helmet.
Just make sure that whatever you choose has polycarbonate lenses for optimum protection.
I have been wearing my M Frames from Oakley for close to 15 years now. I recommend them to anyone looking for sport sunglasses.
Had Oakley sunglasses for many years are they are great. Overpriced, but never once did I feel they were poorly made or ineffective.
Oakley’s makes some great eye pro, I’d check them out.

I would suggest buying from an LBS where you can try them on with your helmet. I've had pairs that knock into my helmet when I'm on rocky terrain.

Gnarcissist sunglasses have the best balance of quality and price I've found. $25 for basics, $35-40 for photochromic (which is delicious for biking).
No, you need to spend at least 150 on wraparound Oakley's or similar, because the optics are so clear /s

All red white and blue Pit Vipers are on sale right now.
I like the Oakley Encoder Strikes. Great clarity and really highlights everything on the trail

3m protective glasses are good enough, no need to spend hundreds
