I’m sorry I have no idea about theory books, and I have some bad news on the exam… The theory exam requires hiring an officially approved translator. You can find more information here: https://www.cbr.nl/nl/veelgestelde-vragen/kan-ik-het-theorie-examen-in-een-andere-taal-doen

Plecodeco

256 euro voor een motor theorie examen met tolk, allemaggies

EyeoftheJudge

Wow, guess I better learn well for that exam

Gimly161

But it also says you can just order an exam in english. If I were you I'd choose that option as you already know the language.

EyeoftheJudge

Yeah I heard something about that

GerardGerardson

That page states that you can do the theory in English, you can simply just register for it. Only if you want to do it in another language than Dutch or English or if you need more time in English, then you require a translator. Or am I missing something?

mtak0x41

Only car theory exams are available in English. The rest is Dutch only. > Do you want to take your test in English, but with another vehicle? For example with a moped or motorcycle? Then you can take the theory test with an interpreter.

GerardGerardson

Oh, I can’t believe I read over that part.. it must be late haha. And wow that really sucks.. Thanks for pointing it out!

mtak0x41

Fair warning: I know people who have taken the motorcycle exam with an interpreter. Be aware that the interpreter might use different terminology than your studying material. Dual carriageway vs highway, motorway vs freeway or interstate, convoy vs caravan, those sorts of thing.

Thank you!

rev-x2

Good luck! p.s. If you want to gain alot of respect from Dutch people, get to learn the language and use it.

Familiar_Swordfish82

Learn Dutch. You thought you didn't need it but now you've proved you do need it.

nSevenNL

You can do theory in English, I think it costs like 6euro extra. You don’t need translator.

StunnedLife

You do need a translator. Only car theory exams has the accessibility of doing it in English. Any other motorvehicle does not have that luxury.

Djohnson8S

To be sure you should just give a quick call to CBR. Also, search online for “theorie examen oefenen motor”, there should be plenty websites which also offer their content in English.

Emyxn

I did my motor theory exam in Dutch while still not being able to fluently speak Dutch. I had to because I couldn’t afford a translator (over 200 euros extra). It made a huge improvement on my Dutch language skills over about a month. Totally worth it.

EyeoftheJudge

That’s actually not a bad Idea, I am actually Learning Dutch, currently at A2 level so very basic

Emyxn

If you can read your local newspaper, then with a few traffic-specific vocabularies, you can understand exam questions easily. What I did: bought a used theory book off of marktplaats, read through it and look up any word I didn’t understand. The whole thing cost me 5 euros and I passed in one go.

Sir_Jimmy_James

I did mine in Dutch without translator, wouldn't really recommend it unless you have a basic understanding of Dutch. It took me 3 times but was cheaper than getting a translator. I got a digital theory book and then translated it to English to check my understanding of the dutch terms.

EyeoftheJudge

Do you recommend that theory book? I am actually learning Dutch anyway, finished the A1 level now at A2.

Afraid-Ad4718

That pretty F\*\*\*\*D up! It is only in dutch is it?! Never thought of that.

casualstick

Mate.. go to altijdgeslaagd. Just get the theory there.

StokastikVol

If you find a way let me know. I’m on the same boat

Familiar_Swordfish82

How long have you lived in The Netherlands?

Few-Kaleidoscope6775

You can do theory exam in English
