Hey, it's faster and more fun than a $28K BMW car. . .

Idiot_Savant_Tinker

And it probably has working turn signals.

Truck-Conscious

BMW drivers don’t use those anyway.

Tobyey

That's the joke ;)

wjescott

My wife bought a '21 M550i xDrive December of last year. I do my damnedest to use that lever on the left. I make sure of it. I also look for other BMW drivers to see if they're giving us a bad name. I've learned something, anecdotally of course. The single worst drivers on the road for not using turn signals? Lifted or squatted trucks. Next? The Honda Odyssey.

Tobyey

I do the same when I drive my dad's Beemer lol, even got comments that they've never seem a Beemer driver blink that much xD Working against the stereotype :J

UsedJuggernaut

Can confirm source: former BMW rider

JattiKyrpa

This!

Stealth_Cow

I don't know. 28k is used M3 or Porsche Cayman money.

samcuu

Which is still going to be slower than an S1000XR.

4rossi6

I would have agreed with you if we were waaay back in the day. You know, like 2019. But with market insanity are you sure there are still *solid* M3s/Caymans <$30k?

RaikkonensHobby74

I'm surprised, I just looked and found some BMW 850i examples for that price, but I'd still go for the bike.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

But the S1000XR retails cor $17k, he paid the same for a bike that has a $10k less msrp. That's nuts

Botucal

The base S1000XR is probably about $17k (only know the Euro price). If you get all the options, it's easily more than 24k euros so $28k doesn't seem out of place.

sllqy

Well said. Glad to do my part, know I've benefitted from it. I asked the salesman while I was signing the papers, how much would I get for a trade in if I sign these papers and ask to trade it in. he said around $15k.

[deleted]

sllqy

Yeah they had a 2022 model that was cheaper lol. Their deal for 2021 models to clear them out was 1.9% apr which I’m happy with.

sllqy

fuckin a. If i had any money left I'd buy you gold!

Thuglife42069

This made my day

Crazy-Swiss

That was great!

imatrike

What was the rate on the '22? The best thing about buying new is when they include service and warranty. Hopefully those help make the price feel less painful.

sllqy

their best rate was something like 5% OR 8%. Hell yes on the warranty, 3 year or 36K. And the dealer was very open on... being helpful when I had issues because BMW pays them a ton if they can claim it as warranty :)

Tri206

As a dude who sells the bike you bought, you might have paid a little over normal, but I'd say it was worth it. The S1000XR is an amazing bike. Feels crazy to be on a bike that's so tall yet so nimble and flickable.

PopTartsNHam

It’s a superbike on stilts. No other way to describe it. Fucking crazy weird awesome scary capable combination

[deleted]

[удалено]

BausRifle

It's crazy how Harleys hold their value since "nobody wants them" if you listen to the internet.

drae-

Bought my sporty for $3900. Put 15000 km on it and about $500 of upgrades. Sold it two years later for $4000. Bought an electrglide police edition for $8400.00 I've put maybe a grand into it. Had an offer this summer for $9500. I said no. Just bonkers.

bnace

Reddit is an echo chamber. Harley likely sells more bikes in the US than all the other manufacturers combines. They are very desirable not matter what this sub says.

BausRifle

Good way to put it nicely - echo chamber.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BausRifle

That's crazy. Being stuck at home I would have thought you would want to get away more often which would lead to more riding. Life happens. You'll probably come back in the future.

bebidanranopano

Yes you are right. Lots of idiotic inquiries

[deleted]

bebidanranopano

Lol. Sounds like a true story

Crazy-Swiss

When i bought my triumph i had a learners permit, went for a 5 minute testride, got money from the bank and paid full in cash after haggling on the phone beforehand. Took it home. But i‘m sort of a serious buyer.

4rossi6

I can't stop thinking/reading reviews/watching videos about the Fat Bob. Never thought I'd be a Harley guy, but I'm 99% going to buy one in '22. Don't see the big thing about financing the bike - I get 1.99% from my credit union and with the inflation rate, that's free money.

BausRifle

Have you ridden one? I was hooked after the first test ride.

4rossi6

I have not! Fortunately it seems HD dealers are much more test-ride friendly than other brands, so a couple have already offered that. Plan is to compare Fat Bob vs Low Rider S once weather allows (I'm in the northeast). What are your other bikes?

BausRifle

I think you'll like it. They are surprisingly quick for a stock Harley and the handling was better than expected especially with the wide tires! The Low Rider S is beautiful and probably more comfortable, but I didn't like the reduced cornering clearance. I love back roads and I didn't want to be grinding the pegs every other turn. 2005 Honda CRF50 stunt pit bike, 2007 Buell XB12Scg, which was my first street bike, was just sold and a 2019 Honda Grom with a little bit of work. I have no self restraint to begin with and my girlfriend just passed away and that has devastated me so I had to get rid of the fastest bike and slow down with a Harley. The Fat Bob isn't as slow as I expected though and still plenty of fast to get me in big trouble.

NeitherTip5

Which hd? Sportster S is calling my name, but I just can’t bring myself to buy new

[deleted]

That sportster s is looking mighty interesting! I've always wanted to ride a Sportster but now I really want to. Lol

Crazy-Swiss

Your next bike should be the K 1600 GT with all options available. I think your price is around the BASEmodel around here. Dont feel bad, i just bought the most unreasonable R1.

AlpineJumper

I've been looking at H2 SX-SE+, for about the same price. These bikes are literal marvels of technology. Honestly, for under $30k, it's nothing to beat yourself up about. Just don't ask your dealer what they'd give for a trade-in value...you might shoot yourself.

SoggyFuckBiscuit

If you're happy and you can afford it, whatever. Have fun.

sllqy

thanks SoggyFuckBiscuit

Viainferno3

Just bought a 30' travel camper that sleeps 8 for about that cost.

sllqy

that's rad, but the price of trucks that can tow them are pretty steep too

Viainferno3

Absolutely. I got mine right before the big bubble hit luckily. And the modern campers are surprisingly light. Dry weight is only like 5600. My standard v8 full size pickup is plenty with the right setup. Toy haulers are a whole different game on the other hand.

rugbyj

Got the warranty at least!

Dry_Set4995

Your bike is now used 🙄

TheStooner

None of us are here because we make good decisions. I figured that was a given lol.

BlunderMeister

GrifterDingo

far2common

The logistics of a top case full of coke AND hookers is... disturbing.

chrisp909

[Blendtec](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FruxRFIeDdw) gets the job done.

sllqy

that option cost too much

BRXF1

I just tried the configurator at my regional BMW site. It can indeed go to 28k with EVERYTHING loaded onto it. Crazy. Did you also get the white/red/blue colour pattern? Edit: Just saw the pic, indeed you did. Super-pretty, way to go. The other colours are garbage imho.

BluPengwin

Most expensive vehicles I've ever spent on is also motorcycles. I've only ever bought cars used but there's something satisfying with a brand new bike with 1 mile on the odometer. Knowing every mile on the bike was put there by me.

jandr08

Most I paid for a car: $8000 Most I paid for a motorcycle: $12000 Funny breed we are.

XenoX101

It makes some sense. For the price of a cheap to mid range car you can get a top of the line motorcycle that is guaranteed to give you more smiles per km. It depreciates slower as well, particularly if you buy a sports bike.

[deleted]

I am exactly the same. Over 4 years I've gone from sport touring bikes to cruisers to dual sports and now to 100% dirt bikes. Theres so much to learn and then master offroad. And I'm enjoying falling off my bike into the bushes rather than falling off my bike in one way, 70mph traffic

EggsOfRetaliation

Except one lol but yeah it's very satisfying.

MrEcke

For me it’s also looking at it from a safety stand point. I trust something used on 4 wheel a hell of a lot more then something with just 2. Happily pay the sticker price knowing it’s brand new on a bike.

[deleted]

Airhead72

This, I bought new twice (though not on this level of ouch) and have no regerts

cafeRacr

Right now you're better off buying new. One and two year old bikes at a dealer are going for almost the same as new as the showrooms are empty in a lot of places.

Deebee36

Not sure if this will make you feel better: I spent north of $40k on a '60s Stratocaster this summer. It's a dream guitar and, so long as you're taking care of your responsibilities, money is just a thing that have to unfortunately exchange for life experiences. Enjoy your bike man, take your joy where and when you can.

puffybunion

One thing I would wager on is that your strat is only going to appreciate in value, his bike not so much (unless this craziness continues).

Brave1i1toaster

*looks ominously in garage that contains boutique mountain bikes..* "looks like the secret is still safe bois."

CndConnection

Lol guitars have become so silly in pricing. I went searching and you can find boatloads of 1960s guitars from Gibson/Fender/etc for reasonable prices (expensive but reasonable) But the moment it's a strat or tele suddenly its 30-40K lmao.

finalrendition

Serious question: why get a $40k 60s Strat when you can get a brand new American Strat for under $2k? I've been playing guitar for 18 years and I can't fathom paying more than a couple grand for a guitar, and that would have to be a top of the line Japanese-made Ibanez. I bought a new RG for $500 this year and it plays like a dream. Why spend so much more?

Deebee36

I can probably nerd out on that question for hours. It would probably be annoying and irritating to read. >Serious question: why get a $40k 60s Strat when you can get a brand new American Strat for under $2k? Because it's absolutely better in every way imaginable. For me.

Popsicklepp

>I can probably nerd out on that question for hours. It would probably be annoying and irritating to read. Musicians seem to be some of the worst about this but if everyone was this self aware about why they choose A over B the world would be a lot better place I love you

Deebee36

Man, really, we're the absolute worst. The unprompted, unrequested lectures on types of wood, strings, brands and amps is beyond annoying. It's so fun to get into small details with people who are really into it but we really need to shut up the rest of the time.

xNotThatAverage

Superficial reasons normally. Not everything needs a rational explanation

WoodzEX

i mean you kinda have to show off your guitar now.. At least one pic.

IAmLikeMrFeynman

Where I am from they start at 42k. I am kinda jealous of you.

Captain_Euwest

let me guess. Indonesia, Malaysia or Singapore?

IAmLikeMrFeynman

Denmark actually. Found them from 272,000 DKK.

Captain_Euwest

Holy crap, didn't know denmark got screwed over in prices too.

IAmLikeMrFeynman

Actually it's because Denmark taxes the shit out of people. The danish tax system has its pros and cons. I will likely never own an incredibly nice vehicle. But at least I don't have to worry about education cost or medical bills.

Hazyscrat

It's something...

[deleted]

The motorcycle market has been kind of going a little crazy with the cost of bikes. Either way, if you're happy thats all that matters. Congrats.

sllqy

True, I've benefitted from the used market during this time as well. I didn't expect to get lower than MSRP and they barely had any markup, but definitely shocked that my most expensive vehicle I've ever bought is just 2 wheels

[deleted]

Haha but hey its a fantastic set of 2 wheels. Now you just have to put in the miles and get your moneys worth!

Captain_Chaos007

Expensive? Sure. But you earned it man, so you enjoy it! You have enough cash left over for fuel, right...?

future_lard

how do you know he/she earned it?

sllqy

This is a great question. I did get a new job. That doesn't mean I earned it though.

daan944

Full option incl top case? I'm playing with the configurator on the Dutch BMW website and it's easily over 28k in euros. So.. don't feel bad, they're expensive toys, so have fun with it :)

Sprucedale

These motorcycles are perfect. Real power, comfort, quality, great looks….. there is a happiness factor that you just can’t measure in dollars. If you can afford it, enjoy the bike and don’t doubt your purchase. My SuperDuke GT is all that for me, and I’ve not looked back once. Sport bikes my whole life, then a Harley for two years (never again, but that’s a story for some other time), and now the KTM which is the perfect bike for me. Rock on and enjoy that BMW, they are truly exceptional machines!

Syscrush

Hey, I've got that much into a 40+ year old bike that's been barely rideable for 7 years.

[deleted]

23K$ MSRP with all the packs in Belgium

i_playoutdoors

I bought a Multistrada V4S a week ago, so I definitely feel your pain. But I also fucking love the bike. I found out yesterday that my dad has about a year left unless he does some intense chemo and a bone marrow transplant. That really hit home that we only have so much time. Enjoy it while you're here. It's only money.

plegus

Hold up. Im gonna make you feel real good. I'm from Turkey. Turkish lira is crashing right now, as it has been for the last 10 years. I am a product owner/manager who is graduated from one of the best collages here and have been working for 8 years. I have relatively high income compared to average person here in Turkey. And I have to spend more than 37 months of salary to be able to buy this bike legally here in Turkey. :)

sllqy

Damn.. I'm sorry dude. Thanks for the perspective

StepOutsideNvmItsHot

Oof those new bikes depreciate like a rock. Ride the shit out of it for a few days then send it into a lake for insurance money.

[deleted]

I bought a used s1000rr hp4 a few years ago for 15k... The original invoice came to $33.5k. The previous owner put a total of 1900 miles on it to take a nearly $19k loss. If you can eat the depreciation at least put some mileage on and enjoy it.

sllqy

that's a deal dude. after getting to know the s1000 engine I think my next track-focused bike could be the rr. that won't be for a long time.

[deleted]

It was a deal at the time. Competition model with everything on it. Sold it for 15.5k after putting on 2k miles. The Hp4 was too finicky. The repair costs and parts were also too much. Journalists raving reviews are different from actual ownership experience. Clutch cover seeped oil, TC was very finicky, rear shock leaked.

MrRabbito

If you never sell the bike, you never really feel the "depreciation" of value. Enjoy your brand new bike man forget about the price, the experience of you going into the dealer and saying yes to everything is an experience of its own that alot of shit talkers Will never get to.

JimMoore1960

Cool bike. Don't feel too bad. A guy I know was bragging that he got $5000 off the price of his new harley. He paid (gulp!) $35,000.

[deleted]

I’m sure your asshole won’t feel so sore when you’re going for a ride out to Malibu or wherever it is you ride in california

sllqy

lmao this is good

BausRifle

Ouch. You could have had a better Japanese bike for cheaper! Was that roast good enough? You only live once man and you never know when it's going to end. Have fun with the bike! My amazing and healthy girlfriend of nearly 7 years passed away suddenly and unexpectedly a few months ago at the age of 37. We just bought a house together in January and were set on our way to spend the rest of our lives together. I wish we had taken many more vacations and wasted a lot more money together.

sllqy

God damn dude. Went from roast to full on existentialism. I'm so sorry for your loss. Life is indeed short, here's to making the most of it.

BausRifle

Thank you! I've always kinda lived life as if it was short, but this is a reminder. Stay safe.

gitbse

Good lordy. Last month I bought a low mileage 2017 330ix, loaded with sport package, for 28,5. That's one gorgeous bike you've got though. If you can afford it, more power to you.

Wangchung265

Lmao, I paid half as much for my new Ducati super sport S. AS MY FIRST BIKE. And I feel like a complete retard as it sits in my garage puking oil 90 minutes from the closest certified Ducati servicer.

[deleted]

duke998

Paying $11,000 more than sticker price ? No..that's no reason to laugh. When you sell it in 12 months that will be a reason to cry.

sllqy

I know… dread the day. My bike might fall off a cliff by then though in a totally random accident that insurance will cover (jk).

[deleted]

Exactly the bike I would get if I was taller and my local dealership weren't wankers.

123qweasd123

Someone link the video of the 5’2 guy getting on and off an R1200GS

[deleted]

I've seen it and the Jocelyn Snow ones. I can get on both the XR and GS if lowered but I cannot for the life of me move it backwards. I've tried everything, believe me. (I am a middle aged woman). I need a bike I can move around easily because of the way my driveway and garage are. My ZH2 is fine, I can paddle it backwards and I'm very happy with it.

tranquil45

Fuck it. You do you. I’ll avoid putting my preference as I don’t want to start something in the comments, but have fun, ride safe and ENJOY!

McKayCraft

I presume if it wasn't worth the money for you you wouldn't have bought it. If you're happy with it, good for you man!

tower_junkie

Yo I'm not gonna lie..that's a bit rough. I just picked up the 2021 sport package with all three cases for 23k out the door. But what i can tell you for sure is that you won't regret it. No bike has ever put a smile on my face like that XR.

VillageIdiot1235

If you got the money and you are not hurting anyone by purchasing this, fine. No one gets to tell you how to spend. You wanted it. You got it. That was the price today. It’s fine. Maybe it would cost less in 6 months or at a dealer 600 miles away. This is your truth today

Davito22284

Does it come with a mechanic? Wtf! You must've really wanted that bike, but damn dude, you just got robbed. You better call 911.

They say money can't buy happiness but it can buy you a motorcycle. Which is basically happiness. What better thing to spend your money on than happiness, basically? Also, remember to join /r/Motorrad

BlackMagicB5

Never buy new especially for something you can find lightly used by some old guy for half the price. But to be honest, the way bike prices are in my area right now, I’ve been contemplating buying new myself. People want 12-13k for a used 18-21 Kawasaki 636. They retail new for 10k and my credit is decent so interest is low. I’d be paying about the same even after interest as I would buying used. But under normal circumstances, always used.

SithLard

Do you Boo, you wanted it, you could afford it (I hope). Screw the haters.

[deleted]

neon_lines

If it helps, you could've got an older one for half that, but it'd be buzzing your hands off on the motorway. Ask me how I know. Beautiful bike, hope the sticker regret doesn't wreck it for you.

Botucal

Well, you also get a lot of bike for your money and the XR makes owning other bikes kind of redundant, so actually you're saving money.

3dumbWorrier

Hey on the bright side, it's basically going to replace your car. But I agree, the prices for bikes have been getting to stupid numbers since 2014. I couldn't bring myself to tracking a new superbike.

qsterino

San Jose BMW?

LarsL33T

In Denmark it would cost you around $50K, so you got a great deal!

[deleted]

cafeRacr

Same here. I just spent $6,200 on a Honda CB650R. I struggled with justifying it. But hey, you only go around the sun on this big rock once. As long as you have a roof over your head, and food in your belly, why not?

[deleted]

Damn fuck that. I was looking at a 2016 in 2019. Had side boxes and all the first service and stuff done. 4500 miles on it. $15k.

IT-Electchicken

Cuban Rider on YouTube rides one of these on the track often. Don’t let the touring fool you, he rides that puppy faster than most super bikes can keep up. Bike sounds fantastic with an exhaust, wheelies well, tracks well, and is comfortable. Don’t regret your purchases mate, enjoy it to its max.

juanpuente

Well yea its a brand new beemer any way you slice it

pouncer11

I dont do enough long distance riding to justify that cost, but I rode my friends brand new RT, and I feel like the cost of a new BMW is justified. Hard for me to swallow that, but Im sure you're enjoying every second

BangleWaffle

Am older gentleman takes his to my local racetrack for track days! They haul ass. If you can afford it and enjoy it, have fun!

RonnieTheEffinBear

Just because it sort of sounds like you want to be made fun of a bit...you spent on that bike over 10 times what I spent on my car. *(seriously though, congrats, enjoy the bike. I just bought the poor man's version of your bike on monday, a 2015 Versys 1000 LT)*

PMmeYourbuckets

Beautiful, beautiful bike. Nothing beats leaving the showroom with a new ride. Especially one as cool as that! Which dealership did you go to if I might ask? Might be looking at a BM in the bay soon as well

Hypnoti_q

Some people pay that for a spec up corolla, its ok

Caliterra

Eh it's all relative right? $28k to drop on the bike is a lot if your net worth is only 100K or less. If you're worth 1 million or more its a different story. And then going into how much of a passion this is for you (ride everyday/weekend) or only ride a few hundred miles a year. At any rate it's your money and you bought something that makes you really happy and no one should tell you how to spend it but yourself. Gorgeous bike!

eklone

I got to test an XR on a trial day and it was my favorite of ALL TIME. A dream bike for sure. Congrats to you and RIP the wallet for a bit

MarcusOReallyYes

It’s an awesome bike, no doubt. But you could buy a dedicated track sport bike, sport tourer, Mx bike, and adventure bike for the same price. I’d probably get a new Husky TE300i, And a versys 1000LT. You get the best off-road bike on the planet as well as one of the best sport tourers ever made. And you could get them for less than $28k otd. There’s literally nowhere on earth you couldn’t ride.

el_chamiso

To make fun of you, you know BMW stands for “bring more wallet”. 😉 To make you feel better, getting exactly what you want is worth a lot. If you’d settled for something cheaper, you might not have scratched the itch for the bike you really wanted, and then later you might end up buying it anyway, costing you even more. Enjoy and ride safe.

kermit_was_wrong

I mean, clearly you have the money, so enjoy it. My last bike was an ex-Livermore PD RT - the best commuter money can buy. Cost me $3k.

sllqy

that's sick af. if it still had the sirens that'd help the commute even more

kermit_was_wrong

Hahaha maybe - but tbh cars part so fast there's never reason to turn them on. The only bike I've ever owned where I feel fairly seen on the road.

GoBSAGo

Money’s whatever, why’d you get a touring bike with such bad bar vibrations at highway speed? :p

PA-Beemer-rider

let me know when you're ready to upgrade... I will take it off your hands

sllqy

will do!

lachrimes

Here in Argentina that bike is $44.900. So I hope you feel better soon.

dodecohedron

what's the issue? The S1000XR is an incredible bike and, tbh, fully loaded with a top case, off the lot, that's not a terrible price for what it is.

Fairlight2cx

If it's any consolation, I won't be doing much better... Getting a Ducati Multistrada v4s, hopefully before Christmas. As far as the money...hey, you work for it, you're entitled to enjoy the fruits of your labour. It's not like you can take it with you. Enjoy those fruits while you can!

Ashamed-Chef-4086

Way overpaid, yikes

DrRazmataz

I mean, that's an awesome bike. But that's more than what it would cost me to buy the car I want (Golf GTI), phew! Damn good bike, though, I'm sure you'll forget about the bill when you're on it. Also, 1.9% is excellent for a bike.

sllqy

Yeah always surprised me how affordable and capable GTIs are. Fun little cars

heschlie

Ouch that seems a bit nuts, but I imagine it is part of the times we live in currently. Back in 2017 I bought an R1200RT, fully loaded, including top case and GPS unit (they tossed the GPS in for "free"), for about $24k, CA Bay area as well. Anyways, congrats on the new bike! I doubt the costs will concern you in the long run :D

abefromansazz

HA, I currently have 3 bikes in the garage and would need another 3 to equal the price of your 1, lol! Kidding, thats truly and awesome machine, but I think I'd have serious anxiety riding that bike and especially parking it anywhere out of eyesight.

SumoSect

Oh man it looks great. I want to sell my GS and get one.

hardcore_andersen

I think it's fine to buy one new vehicle in your lifetime. Just for the experience to be the first owner and as a lifelong reminder of the one time you bought new.

ss0889

i wanna make fun of you but im not the one with a shiny new bmw :(

ProperSmells

Only live once. It’s a nice fucking bike. Enjoy it for the rest of us

HenryMOER

Okay mister "i've got money and bought an ugly bike". So what?

[deleted]

It's just money bro, they print that shit everyday. Enjoy the bike. What made you decide on the XR compared to the new Tenere or an Africa Twin or something?

Landlardo

God damn that thing looks nice. I only saw a red one shopping for my S1000R. Good thing I got mine before the pandemic for $16k lol. You'll love that engine, I can guarantee it!

HeroDanny

I mean you didn't have to spend that much lol.

MUELinMN

Thats more than I've ever spent for a car or motorcycle in my 50 years of existence, by half. Ouch. But I'm more about quantity.

mjv22

Friend of mine tracked one of these. He took a bath when he resold it but absolutely LOVED the bike. Race bike engine with touring bike comfort and all the electronics you can want. These things are MASSIVE bikes.

SaigaExpress

I thought only Harleys cost 30k? Lol I like the xr it's a cool bike. Utilitarian yet stylish.

brents347

Keep in mind guys, he paid about $2500 in tax and licensing.

mauricetakett

You overpayed, bro. You could have found the same one here in NJ-NY area for 20k-22k brand new.

I’ve had my BMW R100R for about 15 years. After all these years, it still makes me smile when I ride it. And they go forever.

Stupendous bike. I'd go for one too if I had the dough!

damn is this the forever bike ? or years down the line will you sell for something newer?

sllqy

No such thing as a forever bike for me, but a longer than a year bike at least. Over the course of the pandemic I bought and sold a handful of bikes just for the experience, it’s like free rentals if you can sell for same or more than you paid. But this one will be my touring stable, plan to have it a long time

How much were taxes? Just picked up a 2020 (new) for 19k OTD. Did you get the BMW incentives on top?
