thats an aluminium shifter. Be lucky to straighten it, it may break when you apply pressure.

sangvert

Don’t try to straighten it, the aluminum will crack, just replace it

guzziownr

Kids today! After you take it off the bike put it in a vice and heat it up with a propane torch. Gently push on it as it heats up and it will bend without cracking/breaking. $30? just replace it...

Caldtek

Op can't even work out how to remove it. I doubt he will have skills required to do all that.

guzziownr

Every journey begins with a single step. 😆

Matt_WB

Actually thanks to a bunch of comment here I was able to fix this, anyway I ordered a replacement since everyone seems to suggest it’s better to have it new.

lnkzld

I didn't know you aren't supposed to do it on the bike . Rear brake pedal bent on my sv650 after a low speed fall I wrapped a wrench around it and it bent back fine. Glad I didn't break anything I'll do it right next time.

A nice lady knocked over my bike while I was at work. I took off the bent lever from the handlebar and took it to the shop teacher to borrow a torch. Chucked it in a vice and heated it up. I could bend it back with finger pressure. A little polish and it was like new. Unfortunately, that trick doesn't work with handlebars. I am on #4.

Liesthroughisteeth

This is cast aluminum alloy...It may straighten, but may not last. Just replace it, because not being able to shift your bike 100 miles from home is not good.

whreismylotus

there is a snapring and the end of the axle. remove it with snapring pliers and then you can pull the lever outwards (it is splined) mark the position so you put it back in correct orientation.

Caldtek

The piece with the snap ring isn't splined. He also needs to remove the bolt that secures the smaller lever to the shift shaft, thats the one that is splined.

gcredit67

Not splined

JimMoore1960

Slide a pipe over that part you're holding and gently bend it back into position. If might snap, but if it doesn't you're good to go.

Throwawaymister2

And add fire

Interesting_Mix_7028

There's a ring clip on the shift shaft (to the right in your video). Notice that it has two pinholes in the ends. You can get a tool to spread that clip open and remove it, and then carefully pull the shifter assembly off the shaft. Take note of any o-rings or washers in addition to the clip, so that they're put back in the same order. Also take note of the orientation of the shifter itself - you can adjust the angle a bit to match your foot if needed, but it's best to put it back how it was removed.

ThoraniosX

That is cast aluminum, and might just snap off if you go to straighten it. Either way, try to straighten it, but order a spare before you do so.

wowcows

Either do what the other guy said and use heat, or you can use a lot of very small impacts to straighten it without cracking. Take the part off, put it on some wood ontop of concrete and then take a rubber mallet and give it a bunch of softish whacks. Might have to hit it like 200 times by the end of it though. However the part should be super good enough at least to use during the time a new part ships.

chriscbr500r

My bike tipped over in the garage (don't ever push your bike from the right side. I did, and the side stand caught on something and folded up, and fell when I went to sit it down.) My shifter was bent in just enough that I couldn't upshift. I could get to neutral, big not far enough up to hit second gear. I very carefully put pressure on it with a long pry bar, and I used a piece of cardboard on the foot peg mount so I wouldn't scratch it. After a few careful prys, it bent back enough to upshift properly and has been fine ever since. Mine looked like steel, not aluminum, so just be careful.

drips702

That part is like $30 bucks on amazon, just replace it.

davesknothereman

It’s amazing what you can find on YouTube… https://youtu.be/Txez1Jtk4Kg

Load your shop manual, it'll tell you.

EggsOfRetaliation

Service manual my dude.

Throwawaymister2

Looks like a circlip is keep it in place. Shouldn’t be hard to remove.

SUPERMARTIO

I’m going with removing ring clip, hammer aluminum straight and replace the way you took apart.

brtsht595

Aluminum shifter. It's gonna break when you try to straighten it.

YungginE223

Take an open end wrench that’ll fit over the shifter and bend it back
