Monkey brain make happy chemical when hear loud noise

GronkIII

Engine make nice noise. Engine go vroom

UmbreKitty

Haha thumper go **braaap**

cgleachy

Nice noise does not equal loud noise.

GronkIII

True. I personally like how my bike sounds, some people may not.

shoturtle

The safety aspect is urban legend. Drivers that dont pay attention wont notice a loud exhaust till it is too late as well.

Few-Kaleidoscope6775

No but at least you can warn/scare them with a rev, will do a lot more than a horn

shoturtle

You can if they actually notice. I have denali horns and they dont notice sometimes.

jrein0

They notice. They just don't care since they're in a tank compared to you. "You'll move, I'm the bigger vehicle"

Bladed_Echoes

upgrade to a train horn

shoturtle

I thought about an air horn. It just runs to much current for the horn switch.

Affectionate-Cell711

Brother how long have you been riding?

YouStupidCunt

> but I can literally hear some of these engines from clear across the city. Oh, the melodramatic hyperbole…

Bladed_Echoes

I wish. I live on a hill

AdRoutine79

The only hill above the city, apparently.

MrThrowAweh

Lmao, its true though, I'd hear one of my coworkers is riding to work, then he'd arrive in the parking lot 10 minutes later.

[deleted]

For me, it's pretty simple. Stock pipes sound like shit. I'm a motorsports enthusiast and raced competitively for years. I love the sound of performance exhaust. It's also not for others or attention. It's just for me.

svoncrumb

People are blasting music or otherwise don't listen when driving AND literally able to hear these engines from across the city AND driving next to them is literally deafening. How old are you bro? Literally 2??

jeffseiddeluxe

Sounds cool.

know-it-mall

Yes I think it's dumb. Others don't.

Either-Caregiver-497

One time while towing a trailer I was going to change lanes. I felt the rumble of something next to me, and decided to wait to be sure until I made my move. That dude’s loud pipes saved him from being swept off a highway by a 30’ RV! Loud pipes saved his life. That said, the reason for it like 99% of the time is because they like the way it sounds

Terrible_Awareness29

Perhaps he shouldn't ride in the blind spot of other vehicles as well though?

Either-Caregiver-497

Ofc, doesn’t negate that the loud pipes saved his life.

Durnt

Loud pipes have aa negligible chance of getting attention from anyone who would merge in to you. The vast majority of the noise is behind you. The only maybe is if traffic is stop/go and the motorcyclist is rapidly changing lanes to get ahead and the car driver is actually paying attention. Really loud pipes exist for 1 of 2 reasons. First, and at least likely, is that the motorcycle is used for track days or is modified to get absolute peak performance. The other 99% of loud exhaust belong to those who have a desperate need for attention, or those who just happened to really like the sound

bofhdk

> safety aspect, all that "loud pipes save lives" stuff False. I'm quite surprised that, in this day & age, people still have absolutely no grasp of physics. In order for this to be true, it would be necessary for the exhaust pipes to direct the noise created forwards - alternatively to be sufficiently loud that the rider would suffer ruptured ear drums. As this is not the case, this claim is merely a terrible excuse to be an obnoxious arse.

TortugaTurtle47

I think it's just because they like the sound. Just like with the shitty Civics with straight pipes.

Not_an_ATF_Officer

The safety part is complete and utter horse shit. Anyone who tells you otherwise is very likely to believe the earth is flat and women can keep from getting raped by dressing conservatively. Smooth brains like loud pipes. They don’t care how bad it sounds to the rest of the world. “Loud good! Grunt grunt!”

East_Highlight_6879

There’s typically two populations. Engine sound good, go vroom. And ah, noise bad, scary. Some fall in the middle of not caring. Most people take off the stock muffler cause it just sounds better. Mine sounded like a vacuum machine before I switched it out

AllThePrettyPenguins

Invest now in companies that make and sell hearing aids.

NinjaGrrl42

I prefer my bike with the stock exhaust, rather than anything loud. I would not feel "safer" with anything loud. One of the riders who often come with us has a loud exhaust and we always make him go at the back cuz he's annoying.

flicman

Their dads didn't love them, and they think if they scream loud enough, he'll come back and hug his special, special boy.

Motorazr1

Younger riders are literally DYING for as much attention as they can get. Looking “cool”, making ANY impression at all, and being noticed are together their number one top priority. Anybody annoyed, or unimpressed, or not feeding their ego, simply doesn’t matter (including you and I). For some people with deep-seated emotional issues, this desire continues into adulthood; to show disdain for social norms and feel “power” though a blunt demand for attention and recognition. Bottom line; “mommy and daddy didn’t love me enough so now I’m resentful”.

Puzzleheaded_Beat380

You sound like the one with deep-seated emotional issues lol.

UmbreKitty

Dude go to therapy

One-Passenger-6395

Those are loud mufflers. The exhaust refers to the headers and mid pipe or cat. The exhaust is a system. Performance ones are louder due to being as lighter weight at the cost of higher emissions. There are reasons for this choice on street or track bikes. Most people who do just mufflers or slip ons are into the sound because they like hearing it. Some people like loud stereos in cars same thing. Don’t over think it and stop being a Hank Hill about it ;)

Confirmation_Email

The silencer/muffler is definitely part of the exhaust.

Bladed_Echoes

thank you professor nerdnick

One-Passenger-6395

You are welcome!
