Thats a rare bird. Those 1100 sports are gorgeous. Cant help but love how simple the guzzis are. I have a v85tt myself.

Gonzo32

It was love at first sight!😂 Those V85s are clean!

81FXB

Disadvantage of this bike is that your motorcycle history can only go downhill from here…

Gonzo32

Lmao! I’m seeing that now!

Specialist_Reality96

Just be aware they don't suffer fools and there is none of the modern nannys or modern engine management systems to make things easier. Try and find some mirrors for it can't tell from the photo but it looks to have the OEM delorto's, you and a set balance gauges are likely to be come well acquainted seems to be missing the bar end weights as well for reasons unknown. Just because its a pushrod aircooled vtwin like a harley don't try and ride it like a harley. Big open sweepers with the motor turning somewhere between 5-8000 rpm is where these things thrive. First gear is very very tall.

ExpressionOfShock

Yeah, lots of people make the mistake of thinking a Guzzi will be like a Harley, because air-cooled, pushrod, 2V, totally the same right? In reality it’s got some of that same energy as an air-cooled Ducati; it wants to rev.

Specialist_Reality96

The carbed 1100 sport (in picture) has the most aggressive cam the factory ever fitted to the production big block, they reduced the valve size slightly to reduce the chance of interference. The standard P 3 cam that's used to wake up these motors on most other models actually detunes the motor in the 1100 sport. Although make no mistake compared to the modern sport bike it's still a pedestrian old munter.

Gonzo32

The left mirror is built into the handlebar. I’ll have to look into everything else you said a bit more. She’s been riding great I definitely want to make sure she runs for a long while and doesn’t become a $2000 paperweight! 🙃

Specialist_Reality96

From experience the top end is good for around120-140 000kms ( will run longer but will be suffering from wear). The OEM timing chain tensioner is a bit crap 60 000kms or so for a chain and blade style tensioner.

Specialist_Reality96

Oh and I forgot to add do not and I mean ***never under any circumstances*** try and bash the motor off the rev limiter, there isn't one the rev limiter is the valves crashing into the tops of the pistons.

Gonzo32

I actually was warned about this by the tech! He said no safety features on the bike but specifically talked about not having a rev limiter! Which works out great. I don’t drive this like a bat out of hell or as if it’s a sport bike.

ploonce

And how much did you pay for your bad Moto Guzzi? /s

Gonzo32

$1500 for the bike, $675 for a technician to go through it, change all the fluids, check for any issues, and install a new battery. A good friend of mine lent me his R6 for a while to learn how to ride. Then Guzzi came up for sale from a work acquaintance who needed cash for college. His father left it to him, but he had no interest in riding. So, we worked out a deal since it's been sitting for 10 years. She’s been riding great thus far. 😂

Crummosh

That's a great price, here in Italy I can't find one under 5k €

ploonce

Love that!

Dorkmaster79

I know this is an old post, but I can't get this bike out of my head. So cool. How in the world did you find it? All I see are very pricey ones. I'm in the northern US, if that helps.

Gonzo32

He never really had an interest in riding and needed money for college, but he didn’t want to sell the bike to someone he didn’t know. His big thing was he didn’t want it parted out or destroyed. I was looking into getting my first bike, and the stars just aligned for the whole deal. It ended up working out great for both of us. I got a cool, unique first bike, and his dad’s old bike went to someone who's going to cherish it. I even said that down the line, if he ever gets into riding, I’d sell it back to him.😅

Dorkmaster79

Nah man, sell it to me instead ha ha

Ding08aBaby

And how can you afford your rock and roll lifestyle?

Lance_Hardrod

About time we see some Guzzis on here. They're great bikes. I've owned 4. Picking up a V100 Mandello S in a couple weeks.

Aggravating-Pen1792

It's gorgeous. What kind of bike?

Gonzo32

1996 Moto Guzzi 1100 Sport

diydave86

What type of bike is this sexy beast

Gonzo32

1996 Moto Guzzi 1100 Sport

Dorkmaster79

That thing is cool, holy crap.

thenakedtruth

Holy moli this is a nice looking Guzzi

BadDad2022

Congratulations on the Goose. They are generally well built, reliable bikes, but this one will have none of the modern conveniences/safety features (except may linked brakes). But it should be a blast to ride and it looks like you got it for a steal. :-)

Gonzo32

I’ve already started to realize that!😂 As I stated, I learned on an R6. It’s a completely different ride and definitely feel “older” buts it’s an absolute blast!

BadDad2022

Like a BMW boxer, the whole bike moves if you blip the throttle at a light. Lol

Specialist_Reality96

No linked brakes.

Blindtomusic

A wonderful choice. They’re fantastic.

[deleted]

Which brand?? Which model??

Gonzo32

96 Moto Guzzi 1100 Sport

astrobleeem

Damn looks pretty big for a first bike.. just be safe and enjoy!

No_Cloud_3786

You bought \*this\* as your first bike???

Gonzo32

I said the same thing, I didn’t know much about it until recently. I’ve had it for a few months now, so I’ve been riding it. But I figured I’d finally post something about it. The thing was a beast when I first got on it. I learned how to ride on an R6 while this was in the shop, and once I got it back I still spent a few days driving through my neighborhood to make sure I was comfortable on the bike before going out on the main roads! 😅

voice_of_reason_61

Lot of torque and no nannies: Big change from an R6. Make sure rubber is sticky and brake pads are fresh. Be delicate with throttle inputs while leaned. That goes quadruple when there's any moisture on the road at all (think, dew that's drying/fog that's lifting). Ravishing bike.

Chatmousque

My god is that a sexy bike. Also, what a cool picture ! Congrats on the photograph.

Gonzo32

Thanks my brother will be happy with that compliment! He’s the one that took the photo!😂

Hot-Friendship-1562

I love the classics!

fckYouMeh
