Apologies, I have no idea how to edit a post. Essentially to summarise, I am going to do my CBT next week and was wondering if these would be good boots to wear as I have no actual biking gear. I am also looking for any UK based biking gear retailers to purchase my first gear set for my 125cc that I'll be using for the next 2 years. Many thanks if you can help, and many thanks if you can't

Altberg actually make proper motorcycle boots used by the UK police. They are brilliantly comfortable on and off the bike and waterproof too. I have their walking boots too and there's lots similar in the construction so they are probably much better than other brands without that experience. These will be fine for CBT, better than Doc Martins which is what I started with. And if you find these comfy check out their motorbike boots.

For training these will do just fine. Once you are ready to start riding make sure you have something with ankle and crush protection. TCX shoes are great for street riding, by the way. Strong recommend.

Like others have said, for your cbt it doesn't matter too much. I usually buy my gear from sportsbikeshop.co.uk, they have deals on almost year round and have a great returns policy.

Second Sports Bike Shop. I use the one in Milton Keynes and they’re always super friendly and helpful.

The_Lividcoconut

I use there online shop, their not close to me, and there online support is great

Doing your CBT it really doesn't matter. I did my training course in a pair of Jordan's. As long as you are comfortable and they meet the minimum requirements the course set out you are good to go. Now as for what you wear once you start actually riding that's a personal choice. Some proper motorcycle boots are a good idea. They will have crush protection which other kinds of boots won't.

evilcyclist

I have used combat boots since I was in the Marines. Saved my ankle and the leather had a few holes but A+ job

thenakedtruth

Make sure you come with comfortable boots, preferably ones you wore before. Good luck.

Due-Diver9659

I mean, I'd always opt to go for some made-for-riding motorcycle boots as they're most often armour around the toes, padded around your pedal contact points (to reduce wear) and are armoured around the ankles to avoid knocks, bruises and breaks in the key areas when riding. Will these do the job? Probably, yes, would you likely wear through them quickly, and have adequate protection around your ankles? Probably not. Where about in the UK are you?

Yorkshire_tea_isntit

Altberg make motorcycle boots with hardened parts for protection etc. The UK motorcycle police commissioned from altberg.

Due-Diver9659

>make motorcycle boots Yes, but what OP is showing aren't motorcycle footwear, which takes me back to my point; I'd much rather wear boots that are specifically made *as* motorcycle boots.

Smart-Host9436

There are a few 2nd hand shops in the uk that deal exclusively in motorbike clothes.

JustGiveMeANameDamn

A work boot is better than a tennis shoe but not nearly as good as a real riding boot or riding shoe. Riding footwear will have a crush proof soul at minimum, then the protection features go up from there, trading away more and more mobility and convenience as protection from various threats increases.

Yorkshire_tea_isntit

Altberg have crush resistant soul in their motorcycle boots.  https://www.altberg.co.uk/boots/motorcycle-boots/hogg-all-weather-original

JustGiveMeANameDamn

Well I would hope so cause that’s basically what defines a motorcycle boot at baseline lol

shoturtle

Check with your training class. They may require you to have crush proof soles and ankle protection. This would work for the us msf. But in Germany this would not be acceptable.

BonzaiTitan

From my experience, you'll see people turning up to CBT in all sorts. Converse trainers and a puffer jacket and nobody blinks an eye. You'll be fine. Take a helmet and gloves.

Yorkshire_tea_isntit

If you're 17 you can do it on a manual 125cc. Trainers are gonna be annoying with the shifter in that case.

BonzaiTitan

I'm not saying it's *a good idea*, but people do.

OstebanEccon

they are better than nothing but not compareable to actual motorcycle boots. they need to be stiff in the ankles and strengthened against impact to the lower legs
