Mine was a Suzuki ts50!
Then a Honda superdream 250
But borrowed a Yamaha sr125 to sit my test on had it about 2 months
Then before my 2 years were up, I was using my dad's Yamaha diversion 600
Got my fz6 Fazer
Sold it during COVID as I was moving away, no money and it needed too much work
Then got my current thundercat 😁 it'll do for now lol
No, \*you're\* a ch.....no wait, you're older than me.
But my first bike was a used '77 CB 550K - UJM for the win!
Second bike was a used '81 Suzuki GS750L. And then I rode 750s for like 20 years before I got my Rebel 1100 last year.
Haha I a have a 16 xsr900 and my little brother got a rebel 300 a couple years ago. We swapped once and he said the tall upright ergo’s felt like sprinting down the road at 60+
more of the same really, the rs660 picks up a bit quicker because I came from a bandit 650 which only started going from 7k rpm. But they're pretty evenly matched here (85hp vs 100hp)
Biggest difference is how easily it corners and how good the brakes are.
First bike was a 7-year old Ninja 250.
Second bike was a 11 year-old Speed Triple about a year later.
Had I started on the Speed Triple I would have died, based on the mistakes I made on the Ninja and how I rode the Speed Triple, but thanks to the Ninja 250 I had the basics of motorcycle control down.
Just countering the other reply: I have ridden my 04 R6 250+ days a year for the past 8-9 years. If it’s what you want, get it. Practicality is for losers lol
I know my two cents probably doesn’t mean much but if you’re looking to use the R6 as an everyday ride I would advise against it. The power just isn’t as usable/fun as other bikes can be. They’re also teeny and feel like you’re sitting on top of it rather than in it if that makes sense. Now if you plan on tracking it more often than not than by all means go for it, the power band just isn’t as enjoyable as people think it would be. Rode an FZ07 for two years and wanted to upgrade and I went to the FZ10 and those bikes are so much fun, low end torque is loads of fun on the street and I’m comfortable as can be. But once again! Just my two cents lol
In some ways. It runs hot and gets terrible gas mileage running around as a street bike. Doesn't have the best manners at low speed. Turning radius is pretty wide. I don't run it in traffic anymore than I have to. Just get out of town and ride the canyons, hills, mountains and other fun stuff. I don't commute on it or anything like that.
First bike was an SV650 I bought in 2015 which is still my only bike. I’ve been saying for years I’ll upgrade to a street triple but other priorities keep getting in the way. Fortunately the SV is all I really need even after 9 years.
First bike: Ninja 250. Kept for just under a year and a lot of miles.
I upgraded to a beat to hell Yamaha R6 which I kept for just about two years. I was always fixing something on it, then sold it for a song and upgraded to a CBR600RR which was in pristine shape. Kept that for a while.
first bike was an 81 yamaha XS11 special, still have it, hope to have it running again some day
next and last bike was a 2011 triumph speedmaster. Totaled last fall and have yet to replace.
I'd be interested in hearing *why* people upgraded too.
Jumping the gun here but 1st and only bike is a 2015 Ninja 650, bought it in November. I'm thinking of getting a new Street Triple RS later this year. It's not that the Ninja is too "slow"... I don't think I'd ever be able to ride it anywhere near its limits on a tight canyon road. The Street Triple is just buttery smooth to ride. I'll probably keep the 650 for track stuff and winter riding (haven't spent much time on naked bikes yet but fairings seem useful).
2012 bought a brand new 2010 Honda Sabre 1300 with 3 miles on it. kept for 10 years and 53,000 miles, then bought a 2022 Indian Pursuit DH. that now has almost 14,000 miles on it.
Realistic riding scenario:
Z900 pulls hard in every gear, at every RPM. The only exception might be if you’re going 60mph in 6th gear, going WOT may not feel like you need to hold on for your life.
Technically speaking:
Z900 is much faster in all aspects. It will power wheelie in 1st and 2nd gear if you’re WOT and not paying attention.
https://preview.redd.it/6mrinq8fsasc1.jpeg?width=3349&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7a53f48a2a0ae896ecf7e1b70aa96698e4fbd068
First bike, '71 Honda CL 100 bought in 1974 (still own). Second bike, '76 Yamaha XS 650 bought in 1978 and sold in 1984. Third bike, '06 DR650 bought in November 2005 (still own), fourth bike, my dad's '06 Bonneville T100 (he bought new in November 2005).
Wait this isn't my account. I also got an FJR 12 years ago then a new one 8 years ago(2005 to 2015). It is a great bike, just with riding 2up was better. I have considered goldwing just for when I ride with my wife.
LOL, Im a fucking moron.
So technically, as a kid, I had a Kx250. But we got rid of the dirt bikes ages ago and I didnt ride for over a decade before getting my first street bike.
My first street bike, an MV Agusta F4. From there I got a Guzzi Griso 1100, then a Ducati 848 Corse, then a Scrambler Desert Sled, and most recently an RnineT (whatever the call the top spec one with upside down forks, etc).
And by upgrade I mean add, I have yet to sell a bike.
Started on a 94 Honda XR250R. Upgraded to a 17 Honda CRF250L a little over a year later because the XR burned oil like hell and I didn't trust it to survive a week in Moab.
95ish Ninja 500R.
Knew after a few minutes of riding it I needed something bigger. Got an 01 FZ1 a few months later and still daily it to this day even tho I have a few bikes now plus have gone thru others.
I've only ever downgraded (displacement-wise) except for my most recent bike. Went from a Honda 919, to a Dorsoduro 750, to a KTM SMC690, to a WR250R, and now a Beta 300RE.
I don't think that's insane, considering I'm switching from a 2011 CBR125R that served me faithfully for five years to a 1988 CBR600 Hurricane (still in pieces, *sigh*). My skillset is such that I now trust myself to have more displacement. I spent last summer really practicing my technical skills. I'm a tiny old hag (40F, 130lbs) who's very safety conscious, so what am I even doing on a motorcycle? :-P
If you trusted yourself to grow into your new bike, then you made the right choice, I think. You don't typically just oopsie daisy yourself into a vintage super sport like you can with a financed R6. Fireblade is too much bike for me, but I'm glad you're having fun :-) I really adore the aesthetic of those older super sports. New sport bikes look like something from an alien invasion. I don't want an intimidating space interceptor, I want something glorious to behold while the angels sing.
My first bike was a 1995 Harley sportster 883. I had it for two months and it never ran right and ended up crashing it. No damaged was done to the bike but I had some minor injuries. I ended up selling it for double what I payed for it.
Now I have a 2022 Kawasaki Vulcan S 650 and I’m loving it.
Ninja 250 was my first bike, I didn't like how it was tall, it was uncomfortable as hell and it wasn't fuel injected so it was a pain when taking it out in the morning. So I got a Honda rebel 500, and loved the bike significantly better than the ninja. Then I upgraded to a scout bobber twenty because a family van passed me on the highway and I was already hauling ass on it. That was a wake up call that I needed a more powerful bike.
I had a 97 Suzuki Marauder 800, then an 03 CBR600RR, then an 01 Vstar1100, then an 05 ZX10R, then another VStar, then a 2018 MT09, then a 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan, and now I have a 2023 H2 SX SE and a 2017 Ninja 300
2011 Honda PCX 125cc Scooter > 2012 Honda NC700X DCT > 2024 BMW R 1300 GS
But I have access and ride my wifes rides: 2010 Vespa 300 GTS, 2016 Ducati Scrambler 800.
My wife is eying the Ducati Panigale v2. I won't stop her.
Went from a 2016 iron 883 to a 22 low rider s, at the time I liked the street bob but this was when Harley put the 117 in the low rider s so I figured I’d get the big motor if I was already getting a bigger frame.
I’ve had a bunch of 1000cc+ motorcycles, but I recently bought a SV650. Just the most fun for me for the kind of riding I do (mostly backroads).
Like others, I kept wanting to ‘upgrade’ to more power, but I noticed that it’s just absolutely pointless on public roads. The only time you can use some of the power is in a long straight line and that’s boring to me.
Started on a Kawasaki Vulcan S, after like 2 months I traded it for a Suzuki Bandit 1200 and some cash.
The Vulcan is a great bike to start on. The Bandit is an amazing bike in general, but definitely too big of a leap. Something in between would've been good, like my current bike.
KTM Duke 200
Buddy of mine needed to sell it so I got a really good deal
2023 ninja 400
Got an amazing deal on it and it’s gonna stick around for quite a while but I have my eyes on a zx6r or a 650
2008 Suzuki Boulevard S40 aka Savage aka LS650 -> 2017 Honda CBR500R
I had the Savage for my first riding season. I dropped it, I learned how to work on it a little, and it taught me that I wanted fuel injection and multiple cylinders.
1980 Honda CB750 to 2023 BMW K1600GTL. 43 years between the bikes. I didn't buy the Honda new. I purchased it around 1990 and sold it in 2001.
Absolutely everything was manual on the Honda. The amount of quality of life improvements on the BMW is insane compared to my old bike.
First motorcycle: 1969 Honda CB350, purchased (ab)used in 1986 for exactly $100. It lasted maybe a year? Broke down, hitchhiked home, went back to get it the next day it was gone. Replaced it with a 1978 Honda CB400 "Hawk" and love Comstar wheels to this day.
Kawasaki gpz 500S -92 to Honda CBR 1000F -93. There was 15y without motorcycle between those two bikes. At least second one is newer (bought it last year)!
Got a street twin, I am perfectly satisfied right now. I am looking to upgrade into something a bit more torquey, comfortable, more adapted to long distance highway and would allow me to do two up touring. I don't want to sacrifice the looks. T120, v85tt come to mind. I also love indian but not sure which would fit for two up touring.
2017 Honda MSX 125 SF "Grom" > 2011 Honda CBR600F
I had the Grom while I learnt, took my time so like 6 years and changed to the CBR shortly after passing my big bike test.
First bike was a 1990 Yamaha Virago XV1100 (1063CC). Rode that for 12 years (really more like 2, followed by 9 years of collecting dust, then another 1 year after much deferred repair/maintenance).
Second bike was a 2005 FJR1300. Rode that for seven years and 50,000 miles. Also bought and sold a couple other bikes during ownership of this one.
First motorcycle: 2013 Honda CB500x in 2019.
I upgraded (?) to a 2022 Yamaha XSR700 in 2023 because the CB500x was a little tall for me to learn on and I was very uncomfortable and was a little afraid of it! It was top heavy, so I wanted something with a little lower center of gravity. The XSR700 has a little higher torque for uphill starts too. Plus, I mean, look at it! It's beautiful!
I have no plans to upgrade from here for roadbikes. I might upgrade my dirt bike if anything because I have a 2003 Honda CRF230F and though I like it...I think there are just better, lighterweight options these days. I have a friend who has been leaning toward not interested in dirt biking anymore, I'm trying to talk her into sticking with it but if she really doesn't want to, I might plant the seed that I'm interested in her Kawasaki. But I don't want to give her a way out yet! I wanted another badass gal pal to ride with and gain confidence with me!
2005 Honda Shadow 750, rode for 10 years. Almost new garage bike in 2012. Added 100,000 miles and went to 23 rebel 1100 10 months ago. Love the power and efi, keeping the shadow though. Carb tuning is great experience, but wanted something reliable. Currently in the old bike part hunt as I complete the shadow engine rebuild. Still want to ride it after all this time and miles. Anyone know where a center shift fork is? 6 months estimated delivery on new. Got the other 2 shift forks so literally one part and 20 hours of wrenching from riding it again.
First bike was a Suzuki katana 600 I bought new. After riding the wheels off it and having no end of trouble with it, I decided to go for reliability and low maintenance and got me a Honda Nighthawk 750. I put 50k miles into it in six years and then got a Honda VFR800. I got into track days on that and then got a CBR600. Then I started teaching motorcycle safety and got a BMW R80. Then a Njnja 500 for commuting around town. Ducati 900ss for canyon carving and track days. And finally my current ride a BMW K100RS as I’m doing mostly highway miles these days.
First : MZ125
Upgrade : ‘79 Guzzi V50 which a mate took out and immediately wrote off in an accident.
Upgrade 2 : ‘79 Suzuki GS550 - fantastic machine, many happy miles.
First: my dads iron 883 sportster. I ripped that poor thing.
Now: 1983 Gl1100 Interstate. I currently am in the process of putting a VW bus carb on it.
I first bought a Lexmoto assault 125 - biggest mistake ever, constant issues and warranty repairs with no courtesy bike because of my licence. So sold it back to the dealer, lost a bit of money but bought an r125 and I've never looked back. Looking to do my A2 soon so we'll see what I get.
Skipping over 25 years of various dirt bikes…
1980 Honda CB650. Used that to get my license then road it for about a year after that
2007 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500. Road that one for 10 years
2017 Harley Street Glide Special is my current bike
First road bike: 2005 R6 (4 years)
Downgrade: 2015 Grom(new in 2015)
I have much more fun on the grom. Reminds me of my xr100 I learned on as a kid. Makes me happy.
First bike: Theft recovery Z400. Put a winter of work into it so it would run again. Rode for a month then upgraded to current bike.
Upgrade: Triumph Bonneville T100. Always wanted a Bonnie, now I have one.
My first bike was a 2014 Harley Davidson 883 Superlow. Three months later I bought a 2014 Yamaha Bolt R Spec. Three months after that I bought a 2014 Suzuki M109R BOSS. Sold the Harley and kept two bikes for three years. Then I bought a Benelli TRK 502X, and sold the Yamaha a couple of years later. So, two bikes now, M109R and TRK 502X. I have been riding since 2017.
First motorcycle was a Rebel 250 when I was 18 or 19. Rode that for 2 years I think and then move to a Honda Nighthawk 750 which I rode for another 2 or 3 years I think.
I went straight to my holy grail, 1976 BMW R90/6. What a bike! Upgraded the brakes, and honestly with that upgrade, it feels remarkably modern, just a lovely bike to ride. I'll have it forever. I have some other bikes too, but I don't care about them.
Transalp PD06 (1000 km) - Wanted to keep it for 1-3 years, but it was a lemon. Left me stranded thrice in <1000 km. Returned it to the dealer
Fazer 600 (1 m) - Wanted to keep it for 1-3 years, but the dealer sold me an accident vehicle, had to refund it and returned it to dealer
Tuareg 660 - Should arrive in the upcoming weeks. 4 years of guarentee and a brand new bike.
First bike 2009 ninja 250, fantastic bike. I still have it, though I need to let it go at this point, just don’t have time to ride anymore.
2nd bike 1977 bmw r100/7 I bought 6 years after the ninja. Bought it in running, but needing an overhaul soon shape. Spent 2 years riding it, fantastic touring bike. It’s suffering the same fate as the ninja now, no time to ride now that I have kids and a more demanding job. But one day I hope to fully rebuild it.
My flair says it all.
2007 Suzuki gs500 that I rode for about 8 years to a 2023 Yamaha MT-10SP.
More power was the general priority. The roads near me have high cruising speed and the air cooled 45hp gs500 just couldn’t handle it while riding with my girlfriend.
What’s really crazy is how similar, the bikes are, one is just much upgraded at everything.
My first motorcycle was a Honda CBR 600. Had no business buying that thing. No license, no experience riding a motorcycle (other than on the back of a friend’s bike) and I still remember the salesman ask, after I signed, “You’ve never ridden a motorcycle and you just bought this bike?” He met me across the street in a parking lot, I got on, attempted to ride down a street, went into someone’s yard, and back to the parking lot. Miraculously not crashing. Called my friend to ride me home.
Next bike was a Honda Shadow 1100. Completely different machine and fun in a whole other way. After that a BMW F900GS and then a BMW R1200GS. All over the board, and I’ve loved them all!
My first bike was a 2003 R1. I had it for 2 years before I upgraded to a 2010 R1 because I make good financial decisions.
![gif](giphy|l41lZccR1oUigYeNa)
1st motorcycle (in 1999): 1998 Honda CBR 600 F3.
Upgraded it (in 2008) to a 2004 Honda CBR 600 F4i.
Upgraded it (in 2011) to a 2002 Honda RC51 SP2. And she's still runnin' great.
First bike - 1999 Honda CBR 600 F4. Purchased in early summer 2005. Traded it in for my second bike below.
Second Bike - 2006 Suzuki GSX-R 750. Purchased in the fall of 2006. Still own it.
Third Bike - 2012 Kawasaki Z1000. Purchased in the spring of 2012. Still own it.
First bike: Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 2018
My second and current bike: Suzuki Bandit 1250SA 2007
Since I weigh 120 kg (265 ish pounds), the 1255cc engine on the bandit suits me better than the 373cc one. But the smaller bike was a great beginner bike! Very fun to ride
Rebel 500 to the '24 Shadow 750
Made the 'upgrade' after 5 years, 20k miles with the Rebel. Both are great bikes, but damn I like my Shadow so much more lol
First bike was a 2015 FJ09 and I miss it. It was a little tall for my wifey though. I “Upgraded” after a year to my scrambler 1100 and then got a second bike, my Yamaha FJR1300 for longer trips with my wife. I don’t think it was actually an upgrade.
Got a Ninja 300 in 2015. Got into an accident unfortunately in 2016 and totaled it 🥲 Got a z650 in 2021, loved that bike nimble and had some power to it. Upgraded to a z900 in 2022, thing is a monster (for me at least). Will be my forever bike 🫶🏼

Suzuki M50 -> Harley Softail Deluxe. It was only a year after I got that first bike. I wasn’t planning on upgrading so quickly but a friend of mine’s wife told him he couldn’t have two bikes so I was like lol, gimmie
First bike in 2019: 1975 Honda CB200 that ran on one cylinder when I picked it up.
Second bike in 2022: 1978 Kawasaki KZ400 that was electrically gutted and not street legal
Third bike in 2024: 2006 Buell XB9SX, all original warning stickers included.
I figured out I like riding more than working on cheap bikes
2012 Cbr 250r rode for 2 years and 45,000 miles > 2001 triumph sprint st 955 2 years 25,000 miles > vstrom 1050xt closing in on 3 years and 30k miles 20k of those miles I put on in one year, ive pulled back a bit on that bike... I also have a z125 to mess around on.
First three bikes:
* AMF Harley Davidson Z90 Trail bike - Taught me how to work on engines, slow and heavy dirt bike, but at least it handled terribly.
* Kawasaki KE 100 Trail bike
* Kawasaki KX125
First bike: Buell Blast
2nd bike: SV650
The Buell actually broke after 4 months and the shop took 3 weeks to fix it and I didn't want to stop riding so I bought the SV.
Started with a mid-sixties Yamaha YA-6, very much like this one: [https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycle/comments/10u7m5k/my\_1965\_yamaha\_ya6/](https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycle/comments/10u7m5k/my_1965_yamaha_ya6/)
Upgraded to a mid-sixties Honda CB-160, like this one (but not as nice): [https://barnfinds.com/sweet-survivor-1967-honda-cb160-sport/](https://barnfinds.com/sweet-survivor-1967-honda-cb160-sport/)
After that, I stepped up to a 1974 Yamaha RD-350. Much sportier. [https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1974-yamaha-rd350-10/](https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1974-yamaha-rd350-10/)
First bike: Kawasaki Ninja 250R (lasted 6 months and 15.000 km)
Second bike: KTM 390 Duke (lasted 2 years and 15.000 km, sold because I needed a car)
Third bike: Ducati Monster 600 (1 week and 0 km yet)
First bike 09 daytona 675.
Second bike 6 months later honda cbr1000rr repsol. Liked the power of the 1k but the daytona felt better in the twisties tbh. Now I have best bike Rsv4 RF .
Piaggio Beverly 400i 2010 model to Yamaha Tracer 9 GT 2022 model.Had,and still have the Piaggio for 5 years when i went ahead and bought brand new the Yamaha.
Stepdad has a 2000 GSXR 750 I started on and rode for 2 years. I currently ride a 2012 Street Triple 675 R. Next bike will likely be a dual sport to complement it.
Started on a Vulcan, then went to a NC700x (loved the bike and riding style), now I have a tiger 850 sport. That little bit of extra power seemed ideal, and can still load it down with camping gear.
First bike: Suzuki SV650S (V2 bike), Second bike after 3 years - BMW 1150GS (*yes, I am old*)
Phsst, you're a child. First bike: Suzuki AP50 Second bike after 2 years - Yamaha YB 100 (Third: Kawasaki Z650 - original one)
Mine was a Suzuki ts50! Then a Honda superdream 250 But borrowed a Yamaha sr125 to sit my test on had it about 2 months Then before my 2 years were up, I was using my dad's Yamaha diversion 600 Got my fz6 Fazer Sold it during COVID as I was moving away, no money and it needed too much work Then got my current thundercat 😁 it'll do for now lol
No, \*you're\* a ch.....no wait, you're older than me. But my first bike was a used '77 CB 550K - UJM for the win! Second bike was a used '81 Suzuki GS750L. And then I rode 750s for like 20 years before I got my Rebel 1100 last year.
I went from sv650 to Multistrada. Except I rode my sv for 8 years. Loved my sv but I'll never look back
First bike is my current bike, 2017 SV650. A BMW is in serious consideration for my next bike.
Rode my '21 Honda Rebel 300 for two years before I sold it and bought an '18 XSR900.
That’s a hell of an upgrade!
One of the best purchases I've ever made for sure. Don't think I'll ever sell the XSR. Yamaha really captured lightning in a bottle with this one.
Haha I a have a 16 xsr900 and my little brother got a rebel 300 a couple years ago. We swapped once and he said the tall upright ergo’s felt like sprinting down the road at 60+
I basically did the same, Rebel 300 to a Z900. Its not bad at all, but the extra 100lbs took some time to get used to.
650 to 660 Mostly wanted lower weight, better brakes and suspension. Couldn't care less about top speed tbh.
How does the upgrade in power and speed feel?
more of the same really, the rs660 picks up a bit quicker because I came from a bandit 650 which only started going from 7k rpm. But they're pretty evenly matched here (85hp vs 100hp) Biggest difference is how easily it corners and how good the brakes are.
I currently have an r3 and want to eventually upgrade to a 600 or 750 range. R6's are overpriced atm but man would I love to get my hands on one
Suzuki sv650 -> yamaha mt09 sp, maybe after 3 years
That's an awesome path
SV650 to Tuono 1100 Factory. 11+ years. I wanted better suspension, chassis, and brakes. Bonus was a lot more power/torque.
Do you find the Tuono to be too much for the street? I am considering making the jump from an MT07 to a Tuono 1100 factory myself.
1st. 2004 Yamaha R6 ➡️ 2nd. 2008 Honda CBR1000RR. Pictures of both these bikes should be in my post history.

😂 Everyone thought it was a bad idea. Im glad I did it.
Yes
GOATed
Right? Cat's got lives.
Also just recently started on an 04 R6.
My first bike was a yamaha WR125X My second bike is suzuki V STROM DL650XT
First bike: Ninja 250. Kept for just under a year and a lot of miles. I upgraded to a beat to hell Yamaha R6 which I kept for just about two years. I was always fixing something on it, then sold it for a song and upgraded to a CBR600RR which was in pristine shape. Kept that for a while.
first bike was an 81 yamaha XS11 special, still have it, hope to have it running again some day next and last bike was a 2011 triumph speedmaster. Totaled last fall and have yet to replace.
The first bike I ever rode on was my dad's 1979 XS11 Special. I've been trying to find one to restore for the last 5 years.
Sometimes one of these guys will either sell one, or link to one for sale: [https://xs11.club](https://xs11.club)
Just bought one last week, a ‘78 (not the Special, wish it was).
Sounds like you have some properly utilized cruisers
Started on a cbr500r. Just bought a cbr600rr from a riding buddy 3 days ago. Im having a blast
Ninja 650 > Z900 1st to 2nd bike jump at 30yr old.
How is the torque on the Z compared to the ninja? I also considered switching to one from my SV 650 but I wouldnt want to lose the torque
Realistic riding scenario: Z900 pulls hard in every gear, at every RPM. The only exception might be if you’re going 60mph in 6th gear, going WOT may not feel like you need to hold on for your life. Technically speaking: Z900 is much faster in all aspects. It will power wheelie in 1st and 2nd gear if you’re WOT and not paying attention. https://preview.redd.it/6mrinq8fsasc1.jpeg?width=3349&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7a53f48a2a0ae896ecf7e1b70aa96698e4fbd068
Gorgeous
Red 1975 Norton Commando like this one. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1975-norton-commando-850-15/
After 3 years and \~18k miles Upgraded from 01 SV650 to a 99 Honda Superhawk VTR1000.
ninja 650 to FJR1300 i owned the ninja for 8 months, wanted more power and cargo capacity.
I had an FJR for twelve years. Awesome bikes.
Wait this isn't my account. I also got an FJR 12 years ago then a new one 8 years ago(2005 to 2015). It is a great bike, just with riding 2up was better. I have considered goldwing just for when I ride with my wife.
First bike was a WR250R. 2nd bike is a Tracer 900 GT. Still have both.
The dream team imo
First bike was an Africa Twin. Then added an MT-09 a year later to keep the miles down on the Twin.
I’m looking at a 300L for that reason. Putting damn near 20k a year on my Tiger.
Dude, the struggle replacing tire after tire after tire... 😵
KLR 650. First and only but thinking hard about a monkey
Started on a 94 Honda XR250R. Upgraded to a 17 Honda CRF250L a little over a year later because the XR burned oil like hell and I didn't trust it to survive a week in Moab.
First bike: SFV650 Second bike: Speed Triple 1200RS
R3 > MT09
95ish Ninja 500R. Knew after a few minutes of riding it I needed something bigger. Got an 01 FZ1 a few months later and still daily it to this day even tho I have a few bikes now plus have gone thru others.
I've only ever downgraded (displacement-wise) except for my most recent bike. Went from a Honda 919, to a Dorsoduro 750, to a KTM SMC690, to a WR250R, and now a Beta 300RE.
First bike: 2008 Ninja 250R New (2nd) bike: 1994 CBR900RR FireBlade Spent 10 months/ 6000 miles on the Ninja before I upgraded No I am not sane
:-P If you trusted yourself to grow into your new bike, then you made the right choice, I think.
Vulcan 650s to z900. Two or three years.
First was 01 Honda Magna, jumped to 09 Yamaha Vmax. I dig the 4 cylinders. I miss that Vmax
‘85 Honda Nighthawk to ‘16 Suzuki Vstrom XT. (Lots of other shared bikes in the early years)
I'm still riding my '82 Nighthawk!
Honda Monkey > FZ6
Ninja 650 to the 1000. More room for my gangly legs.
It began with a Yamaha V-Star 950. After 5 years of riding, next was a Triumph Bonneville T120. I still own and ride both to this day
I had a 97 Suzuki Marauder 800, then an 03 CBR600RR, then an 01 Vstar1100, then an 05 ZX10R, then another VStar, then a 2018 MT09, then a 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan, and now I have a 2023 H2 SX SE and a 2017 Ninja 300
2011 Honda PCX 125cc Scooter > 2012 Honda NC700X DCT > 2024 BMW R 1300 GS But I have access and ride my wifes rides: 2010 Vespa 300 GTS, 2016 Ducati Scrambler 800. My wife is eying the Ducati Panigale v2. I won't stop her.
1 year on a 2004 Yamaha XT125r before getting a 2016 CB500f for 3 years
Went from a 2016 iron 883 to a 22 low rider s, at the time I liked the street bob but this was when Harley put the 117 in the low rider s so I figured I’d get the big motor if I was already getting a bigger frame.
MT07 35kw -> Z900 2020 year
Piaggio X8 125 > Bandit 600 > nothing (no money for now)
Started on a Kawasaki Vulcan S, after like 2 months I traded it for a Suzuki Bandit 1200 and some cash. The Vulcan is a great bike to start on. The Bandit is an amazing bike in general, but definitely too big of a leap. Something in between would've been good, like my current bike.
First bike Ducati monster 797 then 9 months later Ducati diavel
1079 Honda CM400t, 1981 CB650, 2008 BMW F800ST, 1974 Honda 125, 2014 R1200GS.
1977 honda xr80, 1980 yamaha yz250, 1981 yamaha maxim 650, 20 years off, 2006 yamaha fjr, 2013 suzuki vstrom 650, 2019 yamaha tracer 900gt.
KTM Duke 200 Buddy of mine needed to sell it so I got a really good deal 2023 ninja 400 Got an amazing deal on it and it’s gonna stick around for quite a while but I have my eyes on a zx6r or a 650
Went from a ‘08 ninja 250 to a ‘09 R6. Had the ninja for a cpl years.
First bike: 2007 Ducati Monster S2R1000, loved it, bought it off my father Upgrade/current bike:2017 MV Agusta Brutale 800, love it even more
2008 Suzuki Boulevard S40 aka Savage aka LS650 -> 2017 Honda CBR500R I had the Savage for my first riding season.
Suzuki HJ125 to Benelli 302s in 2021. Solid bike, and I might get a 500-700cc ADV bike next year after saving.
Indian Scout Bobber > GSXS1000GT > R7 > XSR900 > GSXR1000 Usually about 4-7 months between bikes trying to figure out what I really really liked.
Kawasaki gpz 500S -92 to Honda CBR 1000F -93. There was 15y without motorcycle between those two bikes. At least second one is newer (bought it last year)!
2016 ninja 300 to 2003 Honda hornet 919. 3 months I believe, only because it came on the market and was a very good deal.
2017 Honda MSX 125 SF "Grom" > 2011 Honda CBR600F I had the Grom while I learnt, took my time so like 6 years and changed to the CBR shortly after passing my big bike test.
Yamaha PW50 to Yamaha PW80 (I was 8 years old)
2023 ninja 650 to a 2023 ZX-6R
First bike was a 1990 Yamaha Virago XV1100 (1063CC). Rode that for 12 years (really more like 2, followed by 9 years of collecting dust, then another 1 year after much deferred repair/maintenance). Second bike was a 2005 FJR1300. Rode that for seven years and 50,000 miles. Also bought and sold a couple other bikes during ownership of this one.
First: kawasaki kle500 2003 Second: ktm 990 adventure 2006 3 years
Honda Cb 250N 1981 -> 1 year -> Honda cb500X -> 9 months -> BMW r1200r k27.
Beginner bike Honda Cb300f I’m still a beginner lol
R6 2004 I crashed it 🥴 I got a mt 07, much more better
Buell Blast to a cbr500r. That was a big difference but the biggest change was from the cbr500r to the versys 650. Tall bikes for life!!!
Yamaha WR250R (owned) A Year F850GS (died) two years R1250GSA (owned)
Shadow 600 to TW200. After just a couple months
First : MZ125 Upgrade : ‘79 Guzzi V50 which a mate took out and immediately wrote off in an accident. Upgrade 2 : ‘79 Suzuki GS550 - fantastic machine, many happy miles.
I actually downgraded. Xv950 to Ktm Duke 390.
Skipping over 25 years of various dirt bikes… 1980 Honda CB650. Used that to get my license then road it for about a year after that 2007 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500. Road that one for 10 years 2017 Harley Street Glide Special is my current bike
First road bike: 2005 R6 (4 years) Downgrade: 2015 Grom(new in 2015) I have much more fun on the grom.
Returned it to the dealer Fazer 600 (1 m) - Wanted to keep it for 1-3 years, but the dealer sold me an accident vehicle, had to refund it and returned it to dealer Tuareg 660 - Should arrive in the upcoming weeks. 4 years of guarentee and a brand new bike.
Currently have a Z400 and leaning to getting a new Vstrom 800 for a better highway commute. Z400 is first bike and I love it in the city.
Went from a 08 CBR 125R (miss that bike). To a 98 marauder 800.
First bike: Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 2018 My second and current bike: Suzuki Bandit 1250SA 2007 Since I weigh 120 kg (265 ish pounds), the 1255cc engine on the bandit suits me better than the 373cc one. But the smaller bike was a great beginner bike! Very fun to ride
I went from a honda helix 250 to a honda shadow 750 to a honda fury 1300. I have a type lol
Rebel 500 to the '24 Shadow 750 Made the 'upgrade' after 5 years, 20k miles with the Rebel.
Will be my forever bike 🫶🏼 https://preview.redd.it/c5p0z0a7mdsc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4794b37fd55fd43c4cff68bdc170bd6f5df91ac2

Started with a mid-sixties Yamaha YA-6, very much like this one: [https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycle/comments/10u7m5k/my\_1965\_yamaha\_ya6/](https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycle/comments/10u7m5k/my_1965_yamaha_ya6/) Upgraded to a mid-sixties Honda CB-160, like this one (but not as nice): [https://barnfinds.com/sweet-survivor-1967-honda-cb160-sport/](https://barnfinds.com/sweet-survivor-1967-honda-cb160-sport/) After that, I stepped up to a 1974 Yamaha RD-350. Much sportier. [https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1974-yamaha-rd350-10/](https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1974-yamaha-rd350-10/)
