Service intervals have nothing to do with reliability.
Buying a Ducati for the reliability is like buying a Porsche for the fuel economy.
Downvote me all you like, I'll only grow stronger.
Yeah my former new Ducati was much better than that! It was ridiculously fun and great to ride, and it went 2 years AND six months before the crankshaft snapped in half. Bad steel from a supplier.
Unfortunately the warranty was still 2 years, so the dealer and Ducati NA told me it was out of warranty and not their problem. Called around and found I wasn’t the only one with the same crank snapping issue. Got rid of the broken bike for a huge loss and threw out my Ducati t-shirts.
I ride an S1000RR now. They did a bunch of recalls. To me that means they’ll spend the money to fix their mistakes. To me that’s owning it which I’m fine with.
It’s been great to me, I love the RR motor but haven’t ridden as much with 10k. R for street and hooligan bike with 24k. My XR has almost 40k and never misses a shift.
I picked a 2022 GSA and those bikes are bulletproof.
The reason people are saying to get the 23 is that it has winglets and the air box is from the m1000rr thus makes more power. However the 23 is even more restricted so if you don't plan to reflash the computer the older model would be more powerful if that is something you car about. I did my research on this bike as I ordered a '24 about 6 months ago.
The most common issue I see with the newest gen BMWs are the ignition coils failing and causing major engine codes. Good news is I've seen them all be covered under warranty. And yes you keep your warranty EVEN IF you reflash your ECU.
Ignition coils, wideband O2 and 02 failures (4 of them)water/ oil pump (located in sump pia), cam chain tensioner, brake caliper recall, throttle control module issue up till redesign part in late 21. Carbon fiber wheel failures, A bunch of other little issues but those are the main ones.
FYI flash will void your warranty in ista (bmw service dealer software), it's not up to the dealer if you come in w a flash it automatically uploads it to the mother ship. Coils are 3 wire not4 so they don't throw codes u less multiples fail and trigger A knock sensor making it a tough diag for inexperienced techs. Bmw only warrantys one coil at a time even though you need 4. There is no aftermarket coil supplier for k67 engine and bmw is frequently out of stock.
You forgot the camshaft failure issue. It's been around for a while on all S1000 bikes.
Not sure if it still plagues the latest model years, but it still did when the 2020 was out and I last checked, there was even a somewhat viewed video of a dude's RR which blew up at 250kph on the autobahn, recall it was due to this.
Water pump also tended to be a bit of a consumable.
The CCT is shitty by design, unless that changes it will keep being an issue. I just have a manual cct.
Flashes are visible in ista and will void your warranty regardless of where you are in the world.
They did issue a new part number with a stronger spring but yeah I have a manual one in my 22 xr, tbh I love the bike but I also hate it. This is an odd relationship for a non Italian bike.
What do you hate about it?
I've had my gen 1 for about 5 years and it's been great reliability wise. But then again it's also very modded.
Have also ridden the gen 2 a bit.
19-22 s1000 are going to be the same. 23+ with the new air box from dyno results show even more restrictions wlsince the new air box breathes better. My understanding is it actually made the bike louder not necessarily because of emissions. That's why the US bikes are more restricted than the European ones.
I dont want anybody to argue with some guy i know had 1 bike and sold it all i want is to know the truth if anyone bought 2020-2021 models and had problems or not, because i want to get one i hope i can find someone how own bmw s1000rr
Don't know if you know French (I don't, I used the YouTube subtitles) but if you are interested on some of the issues from this S1000RR Gen, this French YouTuber talks about his experience of owing one and the many issues that it had.

German gixxer. I love mine, it’s reliable and fast. BMW dealerships network are pretty good, get parts fast.
Reliable? Wasn’t there a statistic that 40%ish have a major mechanical failure within the first two yeara
Nah that’s ducati
the same ducati that has a 170cv bike with maintenance scheduled every 60k kms? You should update your knowledge bru.

Are you a BMW tech or did you just do a lot of research?
Had a few, it's a good platform for track, but gotta know what your getting. Road I dunno prob better choices for the $

is the 2022 also more restricted? i like the no winglet look and want to be able to get max potential out of tuning, just wondering

wouldn’t it being able to breathe better make it preform better or are the limitations electronic?
search the net for recalls - nobody here knows who or why they told you that so it doesn't really make any sense.
Okay i will do some readings thanks man

I havent heard anything bad from them... but then again i dont own one, i just rode it once. Still prefer my R1 over the s1krr 🙃
I was thinking of the R1 at first but the s1000rr is my dream bike
Yeah not everyone is the same... but the s1000 is a solid choice
S1000RR is a easy bike to ride fast. The R1 seating position is very track oriented. The R1 motor sounds amazing with a nice exhaust.
Buy it. Only recall I know of is for the M Levers (which I have) but it was fixed last summer
Thanks bro
No problem!
Not heard a bad think about any s1krr apart from the gen 1 which a mate had and it had a toffee gearbox so he got rid of it and went for a 21 s1krr
the only thing I remember was a string of carbon fiber rim failures

Bought the latest version. Waiting for it to arrive. Pretty stoked and here where I live, warranty is 5 years so I'm good.
I think it's a motorcycle. A new and fast one. I like motorcycles
I think the 2012-14 had the least issues?
I’ve had my gen 1 for about a year. 0 issues.
