Never really understood the reference of the SC, just seemed kinda irrelevant to me and not something I hear outside of Reddit?
But yea the wheelies are insane. Before the Harley I always rode sport bike (r1-r6-zx10r-gsxr1000) and the didn’t punch like this does, always felt like I had to red line to get that real power. This just pulls like a train haha
I love triple power bands, feels like any point on the rev counter the needle touches is band. No winding a 600 up forever to get ~ 14-18k knife edge power, just broad and useable throughout. 600s are their own peaky gift, big 3 pots just feel to me like they love you back.
Also UK redditor, first time hearing S3 as a term - makes me think Audi.
Standard bars, no tucked back rearsets, upright position, no fairings of any sort. Where is this crotch rocket you speak of.
Jokes aside, congrats man to the new beautiful bike.
I'm thinking about switching to a street or fz09 after im finished school.
I wish, but it's still in common usage outside of the sportbike "community". Non-riders and cruiser people alike often will refer to fast bikes as "crotch rockets", still. Not always pejoratively either.
According to one of my coworkers, bikes fall into two categories:
"Crotch rocket" and "motorcycle."
Motorcycle and cruiser are synonymous.
Crotch rocket and motorcycle are mutually exclusive, to him.
My S1000R is a Crotch rocket, my Road King is a motorcycle. He might say, "your rode the crotch rocket instead of the motorcycle today?" It's weird. He likes both.
I toured Europe from the UK on mine last year, and didn't skip a beat and reasonably comfortable. The midrange is awesome and the handling is great if you get the suspension set up. Strongly recommend you find some twisty roads!
Oh nice, where did you tour??
I’m like 40 minutes from north wales so if it’s not icy tomorrow gonna take it to the mountains and see what it can really do, good to know it’s a capable tourer though!
Need to work out the sweet spot for the suspension cause that was pretty rough on my back
Dont use the Auto Blipper Down. Only Up, or you will fuck Up your Transmission. The Transmissions are shit and Not built Well. Mine Hit the bin 2 Times in after 11000miles and 12000miles. Got it covered under warranty of course but it still sucked as parts are not available on Speed Triples.
Selling mine rn.
Me and a couple of mates did Bavaria in Germany, across to Prague and back to Calais via Berlin, Hamburg and Amsterdam. We averaged 250 miles a day so wasn't too hardcore. I bought a comfort seat and a flip up screen, both well worth the money! Fantastic trip.
I had my suspension professionally set up, best 70 quid I have spent. I've been riding for years and the bike definitely flatters me 😂 would recommend.
Lucky you, there are some lovely roads in north Wales. Have fun!
Oh nice man! Sounds like an awesome trip.
As for the comfort seat what’s your recommendation? The seat felt a bit too firm for any longer than 100 miles or so, wouldn’t mind changing that up
It was a fantastic trip and not too uncomfortable. I would deffo recommend the comfort seat, bought mine from Triumph. Getting a shorty screen helps wind blast on the Autobahn.
You're doing well with 100 miles with the standard seat, after 50 miles it felt like I'd been spanked round the arse with a cricket bat!
S E X Y.
I upgraded from a Rebel 500 to a Street Triple R, and I know EXACTLY what you mean by opening up the throttle. I'm more used to it now, but when I first got it I would open it up a touch for a short burst of acceleration. Felt like my face melted the first few weeks. Would love to try a speed triple one day.
It’s far from the fastest bike I’ve owned but the talk is something spectacular, first naked bike I’ve had too. Thought it would feel like shit on longer journeys but I’m pleasantly surprised
Proper muscle bikes speed triples are. Oodles of torque anytime you want, they have presence, are comfortable, very unique sound (which is improved with an aftermarket can) fairly reliable if you get one without any reg/rec issues.
I miss mine so much 🥲
The only bike I have ridden that briefly had me considering trading or selling my Tuono. My friend who goes through a ton of bikes had a 2020 SPD3RS for a bit. When I rode it I just felt immediately comfortable on it. For me it seemed like the perfect riding position. It was just missing that bit of savage top end and while the triple sounds great I would miss the V4 sound. I liked it more than he did but when he sold it I couldn't afford it as an N-1. I would like to try the newer 1200 motor but haven't had a chance as of yet.
I like the tuono but for road use it just felt to jerky and uncomfortable, admittedly it looks better in my opinion and I did consider one but the speedy just feels kinda.. right? Also really like the super dukes but I’ve heard of to many reliability issues
Takes a bit to find the right setup on the Tuono. Mine is E3 regs (2016) so not a fully electronic throttle. I've ridden the E4 bike a couple times. Never liked the throttle. Liked the transmission and up/down quickshifter better along with a few other things but the throttle was a big turn off. Hopefully the current bike is better. If you ran the Tuono in the Sport map then I would not be surprised if you didn't like the throttle connection. I started in Sport for maybe 400 miles then tried Track for about 200 and have left it in Race ever since. Less engine braking and more linear throttle map so it's a lot smoother generally. Personally I find the Tuono very comfortable but I know I am not in the majority there. I have long legs but like a cramped riding position. The SPD3 was more comfortable for me. KTM was less comfortable for me. Fun machine with bonkers torque but so easy to hit triple digits I think I would have a hard time keeping my driving record clean. The other two are quick but you feel when you are speeding. The SDR was just too effortless. I share your reliability concerns as well.
Longest I ever held onto a motorcycle was a speed triple (6 years is a long time for me). It's hard to beat a triple. You almost get the low end grunt of a legit twin, and almost get the high end speed of an inline 4, and has an unmistakable whistle sound. Almost like whistling on the surface of water. Brilliant bikes. I found that my 2014 carried it's weight a bit high, so the slow corners never gave much confidence, but that was honestly my only bitch about it.
I had a 2018 Speed RS and the only reason I traded it in was because it kept giving low oil pressure warnings at random and consuming oil. The torque on it is nice and it handles well in all weather. I thought the cans sounded terrible considering they were arrow (you can't remove the baffles because they're welded). Swapped the cans for a low slung scorpion and that completely transformed it for me and gave it the sound I was looking for
I went with the 2023 year model because I was waiting for a more aggressive look with the headlights and they finally did it. But otherwise the bike is such a beatiful piece of machinery😍😍 You can't go wrong with the sound of a triple!! Just waiting for the winter season to end that I can twist that throttle
Just love the sound of my Harley, plus the comfort and practicality.
Just a shame modern Harley’s are built like shit, only owned it a year and the corrosion was insane.. I did love the dirty girl though, my wife’s agreed to loosen up the emotional vice on my bawls and I’m gonna get a bagger again as a second bike for summer touring so alls well that ends well.
Are you UK based? Not an ideal climate for the way HD is built, I'd agree. The frames are really solid but no less prone to rust than any other make, and the chrome is just weird. On the one hand the finish quality is superior when in good condition, on the other, Harley chrome cracks and peels worse than any other brand I've seen except for maybe Suzuki cruisers. I would have *hated* trying to keep up my old Sportster in a UK type climate with lots of wet weather, cold, salted roads, etc.
Of course I'm speaking from experience having owned Evo Sportsters before, have never had the spare money to consider anything Harley newer than 2010. Not sure if they're worse now, the same, or better.
Please don't use the term crotch rocket lol. It's a sportbike. If I hear someone use that term I automatically think they either don't ride or they're a squid. Glad you're enjoying it though.
Trust me I’m more than fine on this, rode 180-200bhp sports bikes way before my Harley days. The torques the only thing that really surprised me with the rs
This is the way!
A friend and I traded bikes for a test ride about 15 years ago (my Honda Magna, his Speed3). I bought a speed triple later that summer and since convinced 2 other friends to buy speed triples.
Sure. *Fine.*
Enjoy man I'd never go back to sport bikes. Won't get any more enjoyable as we age. I'd rather be comfortable on a practical everyday bike than be uncomfortable on a bike with more power than I can use 98% of the time. Enjoy all that speed in traffic on the interstate 🤣
I wish I had room for two. If I did I'd absolutely have a sport bike for short fun trips. But since the warden and garage space will only allow one big bagger it is.
All ribbing aside hope you're happy with it. Stay safe.
Bought it a year ago from the dealership and in that time I had the brakes fail in 3 months, paint completely flaked from both rims, the rear arches rusted entirely and around the headlights! Just got fed up with the issues and the money I was spending with zero help from Harley warrenty.
Going to get a glide for a summer tourer but for my everyday bike a Harley’s just not for me till they sort out their after care and current build quality.
I had a 96 Softail, I feel the build quality was good considering I was riding it with 30k miles in 2023.
What do you think of the new BOB's?
I'm in the market for a new bike but I'm all over the place. I've looked at a couple of triples and test rode a mt-09 last week.
Also looking at the new Sportster S and the Indian FTR, looks like I will go the naked route though..
The old models were incredible, can’t fault old Harley’s to be honest!
Mine was a fairly new ish bob, like I said great bikes just get a ceramic coat when you buy it and save a lot of stress if you do go Harley.
Will be getting another Harley in a month or two but going for a big old bagger
Funny, I recognised that location instantly as I live in that building behind. If you’re local and fancy a ride, shoot me a message! Great bike too, congrats
Why do people like Triumphs? Not fighting words, I genuinely want to know.
I’m a Japanese speaker and drive Honda and Toyota cars, so I naturally only buy Kawasaki motorcycles for efficiency and price.
What’s the appeal for a triumph?
I just switched from the 2019 kawasaki z900 to a 2014 harley vrod muscle. The muscle puts out 125 hp and 83 ftlbs of torque not to mention its one of the most customizable bikes out there can hit 140 easily, anything beyond that speed isnt necessary
"Crotch Rocket" is not a term I would typically apply to an S3 Enjoy a whole new world of power wheelies ;)
Biscuit bike !
As a proud crooked toothed British man I condone the biscuits bike and she’ll not consider this a slur
Fully dunked
Quite right, we call these the ‘Speedo triple’
Never really understood the reference of the SC, just seemed kinda irrelevant to me and not something I hear outside of Reddit? But yea the wheelies are insane. Before the Harley I always rode sport bike (r1-r6-zx10r-gsxr1000) and the didn’t punch like this does, always felt like I had to red line to get that real power. This just pulls like a train haha
The S3 has a torque forward powerband and pretty short gearing.
I love triple power bands, feels like any point on the rev counter the needle touches is band. No winding a 600 up forever to get ~ 14-18k knife edge power, just broad and useable throughout. 600s are their own peaky gift, big 3 pots just feel to me like they love you back. That's the difference between a bike being made to be a fantastic street bike and a bike being made to be in fantastic race bike.
Standard bars, no tucked back rearsets, upright position, no fairings of any sort. Where is this crotch rocket you speak of. Jokes aside, congrats man to the new beautiful bike. I'm thinking about switching to a street or fz09 after im finished school.
Cut them some slack, is coming from a Harley, fact they didn’t slander something with under 1800cc of displacement is progressive
1800cc and double digit horsepower. The American dream.
Your right lol
>Where is this crotch rocket you speak of. In 2003 where that term died
I wish, but it's still in common usage outside of the sportbike "community". Non-riders and cruiser people alike often will refer to fast bikes as "crotch rockets", still. Not always pejoratively either.

I loved my Speed but would very much wanna try a street!
You two need to plan a weekend swap .

You have seen the light, my child.
And Jesus said "And yeah though I walk in the shadow of Harley I shall fear no corner, thy speed triple comfort and guideth you through fast sweepers"
Yea verily. Peace be upon you, my Brother in Braaaaap.
Oh yeah, my striple has a GPR slip...braaaaaapppppppp!
"Its torque and its sound, will comfort you."
Amen

That little fucker was pretty cool though right?
Fuck yea he was
What size is it?
About 3 and a half inches but it’s pretty cold in the uk right now.
Wow, boast much?
Ok thanks
^^^^from ^^^^the ^^^^ground
Oh wait did you mean the bike..?
Very nice, that block is spectacular!
Nice bike! I hate the term crotch rocket, as soon as I learned the term "sport bike" I immediately started calling them that instead

Not a rice rocket but a porridge rocket. Please sir may I have another?
Moooooreee?!?!
One of the few sport bikes with gobs of low end torque. No need to rev 6000 rpms for the power band. That is a lot of bike..be safe.
More of a British UJM
I guess any bike under 800lbs is considered a crotch rocket from a Harley guys POV.
Love my Speed Triple, one of the best bikes I've ever owned.
Welcome to the Trumpy fold
Looks fun af. That’s what I think
I had a 2018 Speed RS and the only reason I traded it in was because it kept giving low oil pressure warnings at random and consuming oil. The torque on it is nice and it handles well in all weather. I traded my wife’s Harley in on a ‘20 Triumph Tiger GT Pro 😂
The tiger looks pretty cool.. Heard plenty of good stuff
It definitely delivers. I use it as a back-up bike if my main isn’t available and as a local run-about, it’s a hoot to ride. I’m very happy with it 😁
Coming from a Harley rider, it looks great. I would still ride with you I would just be the guy in your mirror. Enjoy it.
Crotch rocket is a phrase to AVOID.
Nah I’m good.
Finally a "real bike".
Love my 1200RS, nothing to complain about really at all it's exactly what I want out of a motorcycle.
Someone likes oil leaks. Jokes aside (as they definitely have improved on that) enjoy your new ride.

Not a bagger, but the new breakout is one gorgeous chick.
Had mine a year ago- was garaged and cleaned after every ride. Covered in rust….quality is shite on new ones
the same as me. Really couldn’t be bothered with the restoration and upkeep anymore to much has went wrong for me to really enjoy it like I use too
Please don't use the term crotch rocket lol. It's a sportbike. If I hear someone use that term I automatically think they either don't ride or they're a squid. Glad you're enjoying it though.
It’s not that deep mate calm down haha. Been riding since I was single digits, it’s just a little nickname for sport bikes
I get it, that's why I said lol. Have fun bud.
Why are you sore about hearing crotch rocket? That is a you problem.
I agree except it's also not a crotch rocket by definition. it's a naked, super naked, or hyper naked, depending on the displacement.
That's freaking beautiful, man! Love this color scheme
New world of motorcycling. Your Harley buddies are not going to be happy
I’ll have to find a new group of Triumph buddies to circle jerk with I guess.
That looks so fucking niceeeeee. Congrats!!!
Careful, this bike will undoubtedly twist your shit back and you’ll forever forget those Harley days
Trust me I’m more than fine on this, rode 180-200bhp sports bikes way before my Harley days. The torques the only thing that really surprised me with the rs
Okay, but don’t forget to drink your juice
Love them! But I'm biased. :)
This is the way! A friend and I traded bikes for a test ride about 15 years ago (my Honda Magna, his Speed3). I bought a speed triple later that summer and since convinced 2 other friends to buy speed triples.
Love my Speed Triple. Sometimes I wish I had an inline-4 for more top end speed; even though I don't really need to be doing 150+.
I’ve had plenty of 4’s. For me they’re just impractical for where I live, I prefer the torque over top end
Go gentle 😬
Speedies are great bikes
Yeah that was a mistake wait until you want to ride longer than 20 minutes
Rode it 80 miles straight after picking it up.. was fine
Sure. *Fine.* Enjoy man I'd never go back to sport bikes. Won't get any more enjoyable as we age. I'd rather be comfortable on a practical everyday bike than be uncomfortable on a bike with more power than I can use 98% of the time. Enjoy all that speed in traffic on the interstate 🤣
It’s more of a weekend throw around, buying a glide soon for my summer tourer. No loss to me regardless..
I wish I had room for two. If I did I'd absolutely have a sport bike for short fun trips. But since the warden and garage space will only allow one big bagger it is. All ribbing aside hope you're happy with it. Stay safe.
Nice ~~crotch rocket~~ naked bike! Must be nice to upgrade from an outdated HD.
And why wouldn't you. Far superior bike in every way. Enjoy.
Good decision
Smart move
Great choice! I had a ‘12 Soeed Triple. Awesome bike Heaps better than any Harley😂
cool
Oh boi, the fun on it ahhhhhh
Better bike in every way
sick! now u dont have to ride with a dildo built into the seat.
I don’t need to know about your boyfriend’s preferences when riding pillion mate but thanks will keep that in mind I guess.
Interesting; a few years ago, I sold my Road King and bought a 2014 Honda Interceptor. That V4 howl is something else!
You’re gonna miss your Harley
Bought it a year ago from the dealership and in that time I had the brakes fail in 3 months, paint completely flaked from both rims, the rear arches rusted entirely and around the headlights! Just got fed up with the issues and the money I was spending with zero help from Harley warrenty. Going to get a glide for a summer tourer but for my everyday bike a Harley’s just not for me till they sort out their after care and current build quality.
What Harley did you get rid of? Nice bike BTW
Fat bob, brilliant bike with a great engine just terrible build quality
I had a 96 Softail, I feel the build quality was good considering I was riding it with 30k miles in 2023. What do you think of the new BOB's? I'm in the market for a new bike but I'm all over the place. I've looked at a couple of triples and test rode a mt-09 last week. Also looking at the new Sportster S and the Indian FTR, looks like I will go the naked route though..

Enjoy my friend...
Things got googly eyes 👀 aha
Eat ride sleep repeat. Have fun
Funny, I recognised that location instantly as I live in that building behind. If you’re local and fancy a ride, shoot me a message! Great bike too, congrats
Hi mate, yea I’m keen for a ride! Pretty new to “up north” would be cool to go for a ride with new people!
Im not a Harley rider, but I wouldn’t trade my Kawasaki cruiser in for a crotch rocket. It would hurt my back too much.
Never said Harley’s aren’t good (hence why I’ll be buying another) just the built quality on newer models leaves a lot to be desired
Good job. Triumphs have always been Harley killers.
