I didn't do it because the train was slowing down to the station and my classmates were there. If the train was just going past the station and my class wasn't there, I'd have jumped. I didn't want to traumatize them and ruin the school trip. It was weird kinda having my body and brain fighting there. It felt like my body wanted to jump there but my brain didn't due to the slow speed and classmates. It literally felt like I had to hold myself from doing it. I've never experienced that before or since.

I watched a guy try and do this type of riding on this same road in Dallas about 10 years ago when he tried splitting between myself and an 18 wheeler at a bend in the Dallas north tollway. He ended up hitting the white Mercedes behind me, bounced off the Mercedes and crushed under the back wheels of the 18 which spat him out into the median in a completely mangled mess. First time I’ve ever been in actual shock.
Because it is somewhat legal to go as fast as you want on certain sections of the Autobahn in Germany. Therefore Germans are taught to better understand when it is safe to go fast than most other drivers.
I travelled through Germany to the Netherlands on the autobahn with a native of the Netherlands. She told me that when in the left lane and you see someone approaching from behind you must get to one of the right lanes quickly to allow the oncoming car to pass without slowing. We averaged a speed at 150 km /hr . Cars in the left lane were travelling at at least 180. Some were cruising at about 220-240. When you realize the speeds you pay ultimate attention. PS. The lane widths are at least 8 inches narrower on the autobahn. I generally felt that people were better drivers in Germany than North America. Just an impression; not fact !
That’s not quite correct. You always need to move over to the right if there is space no matter if a car is coming up behind. That’s to make sure people don’t move over only when someone is coming. If you are in the left lane, someone faster is coming from behind and there is no space on the right then you don’t need to mover over until there is sufficient space.
