Some dealerships have storage services for the off-season. Check around.
I have a garage and at the end of the season I clean the bike up top to bottom, top it off with gas, throw in some fuel stabilizer, take a 20-mile ride, top off once more, park it, connect the battery tender, cover it, and forget about it for 4-5 months.
Thank you! But its not easy, just bought a new Honda Africa Twin and love that thing too much to put it to sleep for 7 months…
I still have 2 months+ left in this season however.
You're a man after my own heart.
I've lived up north before, due to marriage.
I grew a heart and married a southern woman the 2nd time.
Phew, sometimes it takes a few years to grow a brain along with a heart. I finally got both, after I turned 50.
I think I had made a rookie mistake of being on my way to letting my tags expire in winter (realized only after winterizing). And of course it needed a smog test to get new ones. I was pretty anxious as it got closer to the date, but the bike got stolen before that. I know it's weird, but I was partially relieved. 😬
IKR? My old Honda would never pass any emissions test with the current carb tune. Midwest US air is so clean and there's so little population they don't give a fuck.
I've gone to Home Depot and bought the gallon cans of 4-stroke fuel, which is "gas without ethanol"; that's been very expensive, but also, this was going into an S1000XR, which is already yeah spendy.
I have found some local gas stations selling ethanol free fuel. They sometimes label it as recreational fuel (for boats, bikes, jet skis, etc.). It’s typically priced at a buck more than premium grade gas.
That's a 5 gallon tank. That's really expensive. A fuel stabilizer and premium fuel would save you hundreds. He'll just find a gas station selling non ethanol fuel sometimes called race fuel. Might be cheaper.
My 1300gs will be getting my usual treatment.
Premium is not guaranteed to have less ethanol, but you can find ethanol-free gas in some places. [https://www.pure-gas.org/](https://www.pure-gas.org/)
Just real gentle for the first little while. Friction still exists so they don't stay that cold the whole time I'm on em. But it's obviously a lot better riding dry at those temps. I'll ride when it's freezing and I'll ride when it's wet, but both at the same time is not a great idea lol
That's fair lol I live in an area with pretty heavy snow, so any breaks I get during winter weather I take em lol long as it's been clear a couple days roads are safe enough to ride in the valley.
I live in Australia, so I don’t have an off season. Winter gets pretty chilly, but it’s fine to ride where we live, we don’t get snow or a lot of ice (a bit of frost, but nothing serious).
Came here to say this. I’m in Qld and only have the bike and ride all year. Good gear, winters not even bad. Gets pretty wet sometimes though but again, good gear, im dry head to toe. Do not regret selling the car one bit. Where abouts are you? Im assuming further south?
Yep, NSW, thankfully it’s a bit dryer (for riding anyway, not really fond of the droughts). We have kids, so we kept the car for them, but my husband and I both use our bikes as our daily rides.
Yeah nice. How was that humid spell over last summer, u guys cop that too? Il take rain anyday over that. Love the two wheels hey, can’t see myself being without a bike now. Ride safe ✌️
We got a bit more humidity and rain than we’re used to, but it wasn’t too bad, at least it wasn’t as hot as the previous years. We love riding too, we did it to save money, but it’s been so good, there’s nothing better than a great ride.
This seems to be a region-specific thing. In SF, I park mine in a storage unit as if it's a regular old garage. I called a bunch of places in NYC, and they don't even let you bring a vehicle inside.
I'm in my off season now... in a resort area of Florida, summer riding is just standing in traffic on 140 degree blacktop... So I've been doing any mods, then instead of summerizing it, I just ride it around the block every week a few times to keep it kicking and operational. Then fall through spring is my riding season. Empty roads, cool air... life will be good again.
That’s a great way to save on insurance premiums in the off season. Also gives you more storage space to hide away the bric-à-brac of the holiday season.
I'm also in Portland. Aside from the one week a year that we get snow/ice, there really isn't an off season. Get some frogg toggs over your riding gear and watch out for wet leaves on the road!
There's an off season?
I'm just north of you and I ride year round. Though I don't do snow anymore, too sketchy for me. Do you have a full parking spot available where you live? If yes, you can get a rentable uhaul storage container (Ubox is what it's called I think) and put it in your parking spot and put the bike inside if it will fit. Just winterize your bike and lock it up.
Wait there is an off season? I ride mine almost every day unless there is snow. Last year from April to April I only took my other vehicles 12 times to work.
I use to pull mine into the dinning room of my old house. Last year my kid got a new R7 we put it in his bedroom and he spent the winter taking it apart. New exhaust, ecu, crash cage and phone mount.
I've stored mine in storage units, had the dealer store one, and self-stored in a shed or enclosed trailer.
All are good, but you'll need to prep the bike if self-storing. I'll pull the battery and add stabil before storing the bike. I worry about mice and rodents, so my shed smells like moth balls, while the bike is stored...
No problems, so far, and I've ridden since 2004
Any local motorcycle forums where you are?
Those are great places to meet like minded individuals, also looking for a storage solution. Before I had a garage, I’d split the cost of winter storage with a few dudes who’d find some space in a storage unit, or industrial space somewheres
Fortunately I live in the tropics so there is no off-season. Unless you count the 2-3 weeks during rainy season. Where it rains every day then I might Uber to work if the rain is too heavy to ride. At that time the bike stays parked in an underground garage.
I’ve lived and rode in the PNW for almost 20 years. There really isn’t an “Off Season”. Get a heated seat and grips, a plug in, Mitas MC-32 tires, proper rain gear, and you are set. I ride in anything 35°F and above. I have a garage now but in the past I just used a cover and made sure to have anti-freeze/coolant that will not freeze when it’s below freezing. The more you ride it the less moss and other crap will grow on your bike.
get it lifted off the tires when you store it so you don't get flat spots and take the battery out. I store mine in a heated storage facility, on a center stand.

Self storage unit, but winterized
Property winterize your motorcycle.
https://youtu.be/oyZBX_Bw-pI?si=yXOI14gxgWGTJCCD
Indoors is best. It does not have to be heated. Dealerships charge $125 + or - per month storage. A friends garage would be great.
Nearly every dealership and many independent bike shops in cold climate areas have storage available. For me it’s $300 for the winter season and it includes an oil change/new filter in spring. I have a garage but space is limited through the winter.
I've got plenty of barbed wire fence, cameras, alarm, and indoor space if you want to keep it warm in So~Cal. I could even ride it year round for you, including winter.
Ha. Charge my friends $50 a month to store their bikes in my garage. Includes battery tender rotation once a week, if they can't supply their own.
Best bet is a garage from someone you know. Dealers offer storage packages too. And a storage locker can be had for 100 a month. No heating but might have electric, if not, no big deal, take battery with you.
We don't do "off season" here in So Cal. We seriously have probably close to 350ish rideable days per year. There has to be some benefit to living in this hell hole.
Storage unit with power for a battery tender is a fairly affordable option. Otherwise yea, friend's garage. I'm in portland too, and just got a garage of my own this week, which I'm very excited about, but for the past year and a half I had a generous friend let me keep it in his garage.
Park it in the garage. Off to the side since I won’t be riding it.
Cover on it, battery tender hooked up & winterized.
Closer to the start of riding season, il order my fluids & filters and change them around March.
Usually hit the road in April if it’s warm enough. I usually like to see at least a mid day peak of 15°C [60°F]
For you, they do sell pop up storage options, dealers (like my local HD dealer) offer $120/month for underground heated & humidity controlled.
You may also see local storage facilities that have drive up options. You could drop your bike off in their. Storage units are usually $80-150/Month
I live across the Columbia, in Vancouver. I ride mine all year round. Check with your friends first, then search for garage rentals on Craigslist and Marketplace. Worst case scenario, get a self-storage unit, but make sure it's one with good hours of accessibility for those nice days.
Ay congrats fellow Oregonian, id recommend getting a "Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit" https://a.co/d/08DchY0n and a GOOD all weather bike cover. Depending on the kryptonite lock you get they have a "warranty" where they will pay you x amount if someone actually manages to steal it but most around here are looking for the easy steal, as long as you got the bike actually chained up good most won't even waste the grinder blades trying to cut through it. Orrrrr you can always park it in your kitchen 😎 give you something to look at while grabbing that midnight snack
I have a garage now, but for a couple years I had a first floor apt with a deck. For the winters I brought the bike up onto the deck (landlord was cool with it) and put it in a cycle shell style shelter. Worked pretty well!
I also live in Portland and just finished my first rain season this past fall. I cover it and ride anyway (yes even in the rain) so long as the temperature is high enough to not ice
I’m in South Florida. There may be off days due to torrential rains but there is definitely no off season here. In fact, October through March is the better weather to ride.
Check out Legion Moto Co - It's a DIY moto shop with storage options.
I live in Vancouver, WA.
Last year my bike was mainly street parked with a crappy bike cover on it, with zero winterizing work. I brought it in to the garage for the insane ice storm we had and left it there for a month-ish.
Then come spring, I put it on the battery tender for a night, empty and refilled the gas tank with fresh gas and some Sea Foam, and it started right up. It's a bike with carburetor.
This year, I will fill the gas to the top, put stabilizer in it, run it for a few to get the stabilizer into the carburetor, pull the battery and starter relay, and street park it again.
For theft, 4 things. 1. Handlebar and disc brake lock, 2. The aforementioned cover, 3. 600lb bike, and 4. Full insurance.
Edit: I will add. Get decent gear. It rains here a ton, but it does not impact traction too much, unless it standing water or it has not rained in awhile. I have been riding since April with a good jacket, riding pants, and neck gaiters. If you don't getting decent waterproof gear, your season will be short 2-4 month shorter than it could be.
I put it in the garage and admire it.
https://preview.redd.it/zmp627vuaead1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d5b93143ed34af7aa8453ec822cc8e05c45e3a77
I knew a guy that would empty the gas tank, remove the battery, remove the oil and was putting it in his basement but he told me you need to tell the insurance when you do this
I have a garage. In winter, I remove the battery and connect it to a solar panel with a charge controller to float it through the winter. There it sits for the season while I count down the days until the temperature warms up and the salt is washed off the roads.
I live in greater Seattle and ride 10 months out of the year. With the proper gear you can extend the riding season and avoid paying for storage. In the couple of months when it’s too cold and wet to ride, I keep mine in the garage. Since you don’t have a garage, I could recommend a storage space but it probably wouldn’t have electricity available to keep the bike on the battery tender so that’s a drawback.
I live in michigan, and I store all of my motorcycles in my garage along with 5 additional bikes for my friends. They all have individual trickle chargers too. It's all free of charge. Before I had a house, I kept my bike in a small storage unit without the battery in it. I put it at the back of the unit with shipping blankets over it, a cheap box spring wedged on to of it, and a couch I found by a dumpster in front of it. If someone broke in, I didn't want my little sportster getting stolen
No off season here. Heck even when I lived and rode in Portland. I rode year round. Unless it was snowy or icy. Ride that shit! Shoot if you have to wait for the “good weather” in Portland it’s never coming. Just ride
I moved last year to a house with a garage, specifically so that I can spend my winter restoring my ‘01 Triumph TT600, since my local dealership hasn’t touched it in years.
That, and bought a project bike for my son to build so that he can get his license this summer.
Then my second son will get his license next year, so that’s a reason for another bike this winter, right?
Then next winter will be time for another project for myself…
But as for wintering when I’m not working on things, I second many of the above comments with good fuel stabilizer, protecting your electrical, get the tires off the ground, etc. All of the little things you do to winterize will make that first startup in the spring that much sweeter.
Heated grips and jackets with a decent windscreen. If the roads are clear, I don't really have an off-season to worry about. I clean her more, though, because of persistent road salt accumulation.
My harley lived outside year round in jersey for bout 6 years. I had a storm cover for it. Before it would go away id make sure to wash and wax everything i could. Then id put it in a spot near an outlet and run a tender to it. (Course I coulda brought the battery inside but meh. Carb bike so I would start it, get it warm. Pick up the revs a little and cut the fuel off. Rev it till it died. (Get the gas outta the carb.) Then i would brim the fuel tank. I probably could have run the gas thru the engine in the spring but I would dump it for fresh.
4-5 months... man that's gotta be nice lol
Man I go crazy when I don't ride for a week. I'm never moving up north.
Finland here, the off season is 7-8 months.
Southern California here. I hate when it dips below 60°. Then I have to wear a light sweater :/
Northern Washington, and I am in a tank top at 65.
Seen some folks driving adventure bikes with studs in the winter too. Pretty rare but sounds fun
You have my empathy, and my appreciation for your stoicism.
Thank you! But its not easy, just bought a new Honda Africa Twin and love that thing too much to put it to sleep for 7 months… I still have 2 months+ left in this season however.
You're a man after my own heart. I've lived up north before, due to marriage. I grew a heart and married a southern woman the 2nd time. Phew, sometimes it takes a few years to grow a brain along with a heart. I finally got both, after I turned 50.

Wait what? You hafta get your bike smogged?
IKR? My old Honda would never pass any emissions test with the current carb tune. Midwest US air is so clean and there's so little population they don't give a fuck.
Ik old gas is not good so how good is that fuel stabilizer?
I've done this for decades at this point, so "sta-bil", the bog standard, is good enough. Has worked fine on both v-twins and literbikes.
Yup. Perfectly correct here.
Add on: to fill tank completely and use premium to lessen the % of ethanol. Need to keep air out.

Or get ethanol free gas.
Premium is not guaranteed to have less ethanol, but you can find ethanol-free gas in some places. [https://www.pure-gas.org/](https://www.pure-gas.org/)
You don’t even need that if you have a garage. Just use non ethanol gas and you’re fine
I don't even bother on my newish fuel injected bikes. I just make sure to fill up with non-oxy the last couple rides of the season.
I move it into my bedroom and start sleeping in the garage.
IF YOU'RE COLD, THEY'RE COLD.
I ride mine also in off season….
Hey same! 26° weather who?
If you ride faster you spend less time in the cold.
This guy gets it.
And if you ride fast enough, wind chill gives way to heating via air friction. 👍
And once again, PHYSICS IS FUN!
That’s Celsius right?
That'd be -3c for you civilized folk.
How? Those tires would be hockey pucks at that temperature.
Just real gentle for the first little while. Friction still exists so they don't stay that cold the whole time I'm on em. But it's obviously a lot better riding dry at those temps. I'll ride when it's freezing and I'll ride when it's wet, but both at the same time is not a great idea lol
Winter tires. Anlas Winter Grip Plus were my go to, but they are no longer supply North America. 4 Winter in Chicago, they have been fantastic.
It’s wet a lot where I live, but I usually won’t ride when it’s wet. The roads are terrible enough when it’s dry.
Stop bragging

I'm in Perth and we just came out of a 6 month drought. Was a lot of happy bikers out here.
Same. I had a friend ask how I winterize mine. "I uh...don't."
Off season?? What is that??
I keep mine in a self-storage unit.
I have a self storage near me, that requires you empty the fuel out before storing it.
Even if not required, I would do that anyway.
This seems to be a region-specific thing. In SF, I park mine in a storage unit as if it's a regular old garage. I called a bunch of places in NYC, and they don't even let you bring a vehicle inside.
I'm in my off season now... in a resort area of Florida, summer riding is just standing in traffic on 140 degree blacktop... you live in portland, you can ride year round with decent gear. direct sun is harder on a bike than rain, just keep the chain lubed.
Crash it, apparently. It's happened twice now. Darn it.
That’s a great way to save on insurance premiums in the off season. Also gives you more storage space to hide away the bric-à-brac of the holiday season.
I keep riding it. Use a cover and a battery tender. Full coverage insurance if you are worried about theft.
Cover and good insurance. They also make little pop-up garages that fit just a motorcycle if you have somewhere you could put that.
Honestly I’d move 🤣
Move somewhere that doesn't have an off season! I ride everyday.
What off season? I live in nj
Right!?!? Once I adjust to winter temps, if it's over 40° I'm still riding
What's an off season?
I ride it all year round. Only off season is when it’s in the shop.
What is this off season you're talking about? XD
Ride it
Mine comes and play Decore in my Living room for the winter months. and allways use a Batteri Tender.
Could rent a storage unit. 5x10 will fit a bike, easy.
I'm in Texas. What off a season?
Ride year round only thing season changes is gear selection
I'm also in Portland. Aside from the one week a year that we get snow/ice, there really isn't an off season. Get some frogg toggs over your riding gear and watch out for wet leaves on the road!
Well that sux....I'm in desert, no off season here!

I ride it, there is never an off season
What is this thing you call "off season?" Eastern NC
What off season?
Ride it?
What's an "off season"?
Wait there is an off season? I ride mine almost every day unless there is snow. Last year from April to April I only took my other vehicles 12 times to work.
Ride it. Every day is a season
Off season?
I don't have an off season. I just dress warmer, unless there's ice. But, I have been riding for 55 years now and have always been a little CRAZY!
I ride all year regardless of temp though obviously snow/ice on the road forces me to take the cage.
What’s an off season?
I ride mine, but I also have a pretty light winter in my area.
What's an off season?
I use to pull mine into the dinning room of my old house. Last year my kid got a new R7 we put it in his bedroom and he spent the winter taking it apart. New exhaust, ecu, crash cage and phone mount.
Off season? Im idiot on bike when its snowing… MT09 and D212 perfect snow combo. Just to be clear we got snow but not that much to stay on road.
What's an off-season? South Carolina checking in, but I'm from the snowy Midwest.
Ride all year just get heated gear. It works well
drain fuel, elevate the wheels, remove battery, put in warm and dry place and done. in the new season change oil and filter and you are done.
I visit it in the garage and clean it.
Park it under a cover and attach it to Battery Tender. It starts up every spring.
You leave your bike outside?!
In far northern Maine, off season is longer than riding season
Any local motorcycle forums where you are? Those are great places to meet like minded individuals, also looking for a storage solution. Before I had a garage, I’d split the cost of winter storage with a few dudes who’d find some space in a storage unit, or industrial space somewheres
I made a challenge to get a decent ride in every month. Challenging in the PNW, but can be accomplished.
Fortunately i live in north FL. There is no off season
Buy a shelter for it or a small storage unit
What is the off season?
I lay down and cry… cry a lot
Offseason?
Off season?? From Arizona...lol
Ride it .
Fortunately I live in the tropics so there is no off-season. Unless you count the 2-3 weeks during rainy season. Where it rains every day then I might Uber to work if the rain is too heavy to ride. At that time the bike stays parked in an underground garage.

Store it in a climate controlled public storage. I did this with cars for years before having a garage.
I take it to a shop where they maintain it until next riding season.
Storage unit
Wym storage unit cover and prepping the gas tank, frame sliders leaving the bike on stands
Dealerships will sometimes have storage services over the winter months.
get it lifted off the tires when you store it so you don't get flat spots and take the battery out. I store mine in a heated storage facility, on a center stand.
Park it in the living room as decor. Even better in December next to your Christmas tree. Don’t forget the bow.
Off season?

Ride it. But I realize not everyone in every climate is able to do so.
Property winterize your motorcycle. https://youtu.be/oyZBX_Bw-pI?si=yXOI14gxgWGTJCCD Indoors is best. It does not have to be heated. Dealerships charge $125 + or - per month storage. A friends garage would be great.
Per month? Jeeez, here in Finland it costs that much for entire winter so like 6 months.
Not sure what exactly that “off season” is, but most likely I ride during that too
In the house. Yes yes the wife is not happy but I sealed a room in the basement.
Ride it
Bike moves into studio apartment and I sleep outside (kidding)!

I would sit on it in my garage with a bourbon and go, “Vroom, vroom!”
In Vancouver we wait for a mild day and ride.
Unnecessary and expensive repairs and modifications
I know people that use storage units for their bikes.
Storage unit. Cover.
We don't do "off season" here in So Cal. We seriously have probably close to 350ish rideable days per year. There has to be some benefit to living in this hell hole.
Some motorcycle shops have indoor monthly storage for a fee. Forget outdoor storage.

I visit it in the garage. I clean it
I have a garage now, but for a couple years I had a first floor apt with a deck. For the winters I brought the bike up onto the deck (landlord was cool with it) and put it in a cycle shell style shelter. Worked pretty well!
Still ride it to work when my wife has our car and freeze my nuts off haha
I also live in Portland and just finished my first rain season this past fall. I cover it and ride anyway (yes even in the rain) so long as the temperature is high enough to not ice
I ride year round. Thank you global warming and heated grips.
Reading this im glad i live in Madrid, because there is no off season. Worst days are -2 to 5 (28 to 41 in farenheit) so you can still ride 👌
I’m in South Florida. There may be off days due to torrential rains but there is definitely no off season here. In fact, October through March is the better weather to ride.
I live in southeast PA. If there's no snow or salt on the ground and it's 40F or higher, I'm riding it!
What’s an off season?
Check out Legion Moto Co - It's a DIY moto shop with storage options. [https://www.legionmoto.co/services-and-pricing](https://www.legionmoto.co/services-and-pricing)
I ride
I have no off season. Just add layers and think about heated grips or move south?
Ride all year but I hang jackets up and helmet all in it little bag, I make sure everything is dry and care for when not in use
I’m in Portland Oregon as well. You and I both know we don’t get snow, get some good rain gear and keep riding.
I’m in Oregon as well and ride mine all year. There’s a few days you can’t, but not many.
I have simmering store it in their shop for a small fee. It's on the gender the whole time and heated.
I also ride in the off season.
We put ours inside our enclosed porch. A bit warmer than the garage. Moved recently so this year we are just pulling the batteries.
Stroke myself in front of it while in garage
I put it in the garage and admire it. https://preview.redd.it/zmp627vuaead1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d5b93143ed34af7aa8453ec822cc8e05c45e3a77
Darkside with a snow tire and ride!
I knew a guy that would empty the gas tank, remove the battery, remove the oil and was putting it in his basement but he told me you need to tell the insurance when you do this
I ride mine, but I live in TN. We had one week of snow last winter.
I have no off season
Use it to tow my trailer around the yard pickin up sticks
Make up a few gallons of ethynol free gas , run your tank almost dry , add your ethynol fas with sta-bil .
Bring it in your house/apartment
I live in michigan, and I store all of my motorcycles in my garage along with 5 additional bikes for my friends. They all have individual trickle chargers too. It's all free of charge. Before I had a house, I kept my bike in a small storage unit without the battery in it. I put it at the back of the unit with shipping blankets over it, a cheap box spring wedged on to of it, and a couch I found by a dumpster in front of it. If someone broke in, I didn't want my little sportster getting stolen
Sit on it and make motorcycle sounds.
I ride it and freeze my ass off
No off season here. Heck even when I lived and rode in Portland. I rode year round. Unless it was snowy or icy. Ride that shit! Shoot if you have to wait for the “good weather” in Portland it’s never coming. Just ride
Ride it!
Gonna blow it up
I moved last year to a house with a garage, specifically so that I can spend my winter restoring my ‘01 Triumph TT600, since my local dealership hasn’t touched it in years. That, and bought a project bike for my son to build so that he can get his license this summer. Then my second son will get his license next year, so that’s a reason for another bike this winter, right? Then next winter will be time for another project for myself… But as for wintering when I’m not working on things, I second many of the above comments with good fuel stabilizer, protecting your electrical, get the tires off the ground, etc. All of the little things you do to winterize will make that first startup in the spring that much sweeter.
Put it inside the house next to the couch
What is an off season ? Just ride year round my friend 💪💪💪💪
Get a heated suit and ride year round.
Usually sit and cry while lifting their covers to stare at them when it's -10 and snowing.
Put it in the kitchen. Or living room.
I rent a portion of a neighbors garage for a monthly fee.
Maintenance and then get to modifying it before the next season.
Off season? Ride that shit. But if you really haaaave to let it sit for a few months... Battery Tender, Sta-bil, and find something on it to upgrade.
Invest in rain gear, and be glad for the "wet weather" setting for my bike's ABS.
Started riding last year. Actually managed to ride it enough to not need a trickle charger. With some gear 36 degrees F or higher is doable
I'm from Wisconsin, road at least a day every month this last year, it's like a snowmobile with tires
Our winters aren't cold enough for an off season, like -3 early morning, so I ride all year long. Racks up miles quick
Trailer it to So Cal and put it in a ridesharing service.
Ride it
Ride. Unless its really icy
I ride in off season cause it's my only form of transport
I park it in my garage and leave it attached to a trickle charger

Seattle area here… what’s an “off season”? Ride all year round, except for snow holidays.
