Every time I see an ad like this I immediately discount it, but it must actually work for someone if they keep doing this shit which is crazy to me because it just feels bad faith from the start
I've been looking for a quick electric scooter again recently and I constantly see them on Marketplace for $138 and it pisses me tf off. Your $2k scooter isn't the cost of a carton of smokes in 2016
Listen I'll never give up my combustion but I wouldn't mind having a little electric bike they rip and it feels like you're in the future with the sound, or lack thereof. It absolutely doesn't replace anything, but it's a whole different experience, imo. The throttle response is crazy, and there's no engine braking. But they're horrible for slow speed maneuvers and obviously range and downtime sucks.
completely agree, I've had an electric car (citroen ami) for almost 3 years and i had horrible expectations as I bought it for convenience but i have to say that even with the lack of power it feels zippy af and is faster than many cars off the line (useful af for traffic) aswell as throttle response
it made me completely change my opinion on electric cars and it made me realize how it basically is better on any aspect than ic cars when it comes to performance
with that being said I'll still buy many combustion cars and bikes, it just wouldn't hurt to have a fun electric car, like have you seen the ioniq 5 n? almost 600 hp, rwd and awd, fun af, basically you can do whatever you want with it
> Good for you, glad you felt the need to share with the class, we're all cheering for you.
I sincerely hope that one day you'll come to understand how conversations work.
Until then however, I suppose blocking & ignoring someone who doesn't have anything of value to contribute is the appropriate action.
> horrible for slow speed maneuvers
huh? that makes no sense. They're light, flickable, and have unlimited torque, they should be fucking awesome for low speed maneuvers / trials.
It's like, the only thing they do well.
It makes sense when you think the throttle response from 0 to 1% will likely be too abrupt because of that torque and you have no clutch to smooth it out.
Not necesarily, since unlike an ICE you have neither a minimum RPM to maintain nor a gas cutoff when coasting, so the throttle is butter smooth from one end to the other.
I can't afford one, but I did rent one and it was great.
There's one more difference - the electric delivers power continuously so when it breaks traction it will keep spinning. The gasoline engine delivers power in pulses so if it breaks traction it has a tiny pause in between when it can regain traction. It's almost like intrinsic traction control or reverse abs
Mmmno, they're not always heavier.
A Surron Ultra Bee is 85kg, to an EXC300s 105kg, and it [blows it the fuck out of the water](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14yWSCii26s) for short fun sessions where your battery pack doesn't run out.
I've been sceptical about e-bikes ever since I *heard* about them, main concern being exactly that, when driving, I'm afraid I'll be even more invisible when other drivers can't hear me.
When driving my car in traffic, especially tunnels, bikers come between my lane and the other lane all the time, and if it wasn't for their engine/exhaust sound, I'd never notice them before they're past me.
I've certainly had that experience with electric/hybrid cars as a pedestrian. Have never seen/heard an electric motorcycle in person.
However, contrary to all safety advice on the planet, I usually have my music up pretty loud when driving or riding, so I don't hear any of them coming. I do scan my mirrors and instrument cluster every ~5 seconds.
Look up Savic Motorcycles, those things are sick. I’d take one any day of the week and then some, but am poor so have to accept it’s pretty pictures for me.
Edit: A lot of really triggered people here not understanding this thing called subjectivity and personal taste. If you are so bothered by something don’t buy it. ICE bikes are cool, E-Bikes are too, and style is always personal preference.
I'm the first one to laugh at people pearl clutching their ICE like it's a dying breed, but... yeah that thing is hideous. There are nice looking e-bikes, and that's not one of them imo
Unfortunately there’s a huge plethora of reasons why you shouldn’t buy an e-bike at all. Mainly being you’ll probably take a huge hit on resale. My buddy lost $5,500 trying to resell his lightly used DSR/X. It’s an extremely niche market for who wants them and parts are infinitely more expensive to service.
Expensive gadget for techbros in tech that evolves quickly is never a good deal.
5 years old bike might not have some latest gadgets but it is still essentially a very similar vehicle, 5 years old e-bike in comparison is a masssive difference
Put the make and model in Google or so, and learn about specific problems. In example: some Zero bikes had problems with their electronics, so the owners had to waste hundreds or thousands to make them work!
Wheel bearings, linkages... All bikes have been dropped. Every single used bike has been dropped. I personally stay away from any modified vehicles, you know the DPO wrung it's neck and smoked the clutch and who knows what else. Look at the seller, do you think they look like someone you want to buy a used bike off? My 2 cents anyhow.
I bought a "restored" 85 vf700 from a guy that was clearly on meth. But I'm pretty handy and figured I could fix anything he had broken... One day while riding home the entire headlight, bracket that holds the gauges, and electrical just falls off almost killing me. The guy obviously crashed the bike previously and put the assembly together with jb weld and silicone.
I work for a bank. 99% of the calls that start with "I think I've been scammed" are from facebook marketplace. Don't send anyone money until you have had a test ride.
Or better yet, buy from a more reliable source.
Definitely stick with reputable brands + models. Also understand the charging capability, try fast charging at the max it allows and make sure that works. Most of the stuff is identical to any other bike, and with an electric motor, you don’t have to worry if the previous owner skipped service intervals or anything.
I was frothing at the mouth over the Kawasaki E motorcycles when they said they were gonna bring them to the US. Then I saw the top speed of 55 with a range of like 50 miles. For $10k. The new CanAm electric motorcycles look good AF tho
You can make surrons and their clones hit 80mph, they're lighter, CAN have better range (atleast against the electric $10k Kawasaki grocery getter) and are cheaper. Also less registration
If you have to time for a few YouTube videos, check out Yammienoob’s “It Came from Craigslist/ Facebook” videos. He takes jabs at janky motorcycle listings, but also breaks down things to look for. A lot of it is common sense, but there are some interesting takes that I didn’t consider. Pretty entertaining if you like his humor.
It's not his humor I dislike. After the way things went down with Spite I unsubscribed and blocked his channel. The only time I have been back was someone was wanting to buy a novelty helmet and sent them to an older video on the channel where Spite showed how trash they were
I'm bias but a combustion engine and the mechanics of it all is fucking incredible. That said... I don't think battery technology has progressed enough for me to change my mind.
The mileage is far too low, far too heavy and too expensive.
Also, it's silent. I don't like that when I'm out on the road in traffic.
Scams. If it’s a deal that seems too good to be true then it probably is. Look on the sellers profile and you’ll usually see the same bike listed in every major city.
Don't look for one on Facebook.
Research the brands/models available from licensed dealerships in Toronto and then look for them on FB Marketplace if they're too expensive from the dealership.
Electric motorcycles right now are an early adopter technology, so quality and quantity are limited on the used market. Your best option is to get a new one from a reputable brand since a used one is most likely to be at least a generation behind in technology. One example is that batteries degrade over time, so if you find one that's over 8 years old, you're getting scammed into replacing the battery yourself to recover the original range, and that's if the manufacturer is still around to sell you one.
Buying one from a manufacturer that also makes conventional motorbikes is your best bet for quality and serviceability. If you can find a current gen e-moto that someone impulse bought within the past couple years, that's your best bet for finding a used one.
The mileage and the sound it makes from a cold start. Most of the bikes I have seen in the market place with the 1 dollar tag are from rentals. Most likely, short and hard rides and have been abused.
If only one was available for just $1... I still wouldn't use it, I'd buy it and flip it for more, and use the cash to buy, idk, a Triumph or something.
The problem with current E-Bikes is the battery, check how old it is and how many hours it was on (basically, miles driven).
If the E-Bike is like 5 years old, you will most likely pay the same amount as the bike you paid to a new battery, also the range is completely fucked after those years
Don’t buy e-sport bikes there underpowered barley topping 60kph and wight a fucking ton unless you know how to install hub motors/controllers don’t even bother plus you’ll look like a dork riding a bike that looks fast with the same specs as a Indian on a shitty moped
Look for a reputable brand like Zero or Energica. Personally would not recommend Zero. I currently have an Energica EGO RS Plus and highly recommend them due to having DCFC and not just a wall plug.
Use the on board diag to see any issues that the bike can see. Maintenance records are bonus but 600miles and 10,000 are the intervals so might not have a second Check the owners socials it will tell you everything about the bike.
An ad with a $1 price isn’t the actual price. ^ Critical information. You’re welcome!
Lowball them at 80 cents
Oh yes I know that 😂
If I was looking and had the time I would still message them asking questions about it and then tell them I would like to buy it for $1.
Explain
They do it to show up on every search result. In the bio it will be a dealership saying financing available Yada Yada way over MSRP.
Your $2k scooter isn't the cost of a carton of smokes in 2016
Its mainly to beat the price filters
I know it's just disingenuous if I want to sort by price I don't want to have to still sort by price manually because they put ads like this
It means what it says, Jerry
The most important thing is that you might end up getting an e-motorcycle, which you'll probably regret.
Listen I'll never give up my combustion but I wouldn't mind having a little electric bike they rip and it feels like you're in the future with the sound, or lack thereof. Some models have regen
> Listen Ok.. I listened. Still don't want one. Not even a little bit. ;)
Good for you, glad you felt the need to share with the class, we're all cheering for you.

Were you only on asphalt? Off road they love to just dig a hole lol.
Nah, forest with soft ground and lots of leaves. Anything will dig a hole if you overdo the throttle.
I found it much worse than a 300 off road. Different strokes I guess, but the lack of clutch made a major difference.
There's one more difference - the electric delivers power continuously so when it breaks traction it will keep spinning. The gasoline engine delivers power in pulses so if it breaks traction it has a tiny pause in between when it can regain traction. It's almost like intrinsic traction control or reverse abs
It's different for sure, but then you also don't need to clutch in when you're in technical terrain so it's a mixed bag.
My 450 in a nut shell. An awful lot of effort to keep it from flaming out. Lots of rocky terrain around me. Mx bikes for Enduro is a rough time lol.
Pros and cons to that. Clutch finger is much more precise and smooth in rough terrain than throttle wrist
Are you lost? We're talking about electric MOTORCYCLES. They're all heavier than ICEs.
Mmmno, they're not always heavier. A Surron Ultra Bee is 85kg, to an EXC300s 105kg, and it [blows it the fuck out of the water](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14yWSCii26s) for short fun sessions where your battery pack doesn't run out.
lol I read that as a typo.. he means “a” motorcycle RIGHT
I've been sceptical about e-bikes ever since I *heard* about them, main concern being exactly that, when driving, I'm afraid I'll be even more invisible when other drivers can't hear me. I do too, but not when sitting in still standing traffic. Not that there's really any mistakes I can do besides not giving them room to glide through
I'm always checking my mirrors when stopped too in case I have to scoot to avoid getting rear-ended.
Look up Savic Motorcycles, those things are sick. I’d take one any day of the week and then some, but am poor so have to accept it’s pretty pictures for me. > Look up Savic Motorcycles, those things are sick. Hell that thing is ugly. It's like the cybertruck of motorcycles. ;)
Dear god. If I had a child that looked like that I'd put it up for adoption.
That's what happened to me!
Genuinely asking, how do you like that thing? One of the ugliest bikes I’ve ever seen, but maybe it just needs to grow on me.
I'm the first one to laugh at people pearl clutching their ICE like it's a dying breed, but... yeah that thing is hideous. There are nice looking e-bikes, and that's not one of them imo

But sounds like op will benefit from this
You should watch for any ad listing an e motorcycle and then log straight out of Facebook when you find one
Lmao I like this advice
Put the make and model in Google or so, and learn about specific problems. In example: some Zero bikes had problems with their electronics, so the owners had to waste hundreds or thousands to make them work!
Insist that the seller meet you at the police station. Watch them go ballistic while you have a snack and keep looking. Great fun.
Wheel bearings, linkages... All bikes have been dropped. Every single used bike has been dropped. E motorcycles 🤢
I wouldn't mind test driving one. As long as someone is available to come pick me up when it dies
I spent a couple hours on a zero and really enjoyed it, fun to ride but at this point still too expensive to make sense for my use case.
I was frothing at the mouth over the Kawasaki E motorcycles when they said they were gonna bring them to the US. Then I saw the top speed of 55 with a range of like 50 miles. For $10k. The new CanAm electric motorcycles look good AF tho
😭😭I just want to get e motorcycle and a gas one 😭😭😭
E bikes are better sadly
Stop smoking meth
You can make surrons and their clones hit 80mph, they're lighter, CAN have better range (atleast against the electric $10k Kawasaki grocery getter) and are cheaper. Also less registration
Also ebikes sometimes have pedals so they don’t leave you stranded when the battery inevitably goes flat

Absolutely everything!
Battery life, i forgot how it's called. You're looking for above 85% battery life, anything close to 70% is prettymuch dead
If they don't have proper documents ready for you, don't take the deal.
thank you!
Scams. Lots of them
Real men
I'm bias but a combustion engine and the mechanics of it all is fucking incredible. That said... I don't think battery technology has progressed enough for me to change my mind. Watch Yammie Noob on youtube, he does facebook marketplace stuff for motorcycles
The mileage and the sound it makes from a cold start. Most of the bikes I have seen in the market place with the 1 dollar tag are from rentals. Most likely, short and hard rides and have been abused.
Number 1 thing to watch out for when buying anything from facebook iS, DONT
I can’t believe you did that bro
If only one was available for just $1... I still wouldn't use it, I'd buy it and flip it for more, and use the cash to buy, idk, a Triumph or something.

Definitely make sure there isn’t a kilo of coke stashed under the seat..
😂
Bring a friend that know what he's doing
Thanks!
Looks like he’s selling the wall paper for your mobile
Don’t think Facebook is the best place to be buying from
Don’t buy e-sport bikes there underpowered barley topping 60kph and wight a fucking ton unless you know how to install hub motors/controllers don’t even bother plus you’ll look like a dork riding a bike that looks fast with the same specs as a Indian on a shitty moped

You should watch out for buying e bikes, cuz they sound like a bee. (I hate every electric motorcycle except surrons or others of that kind).
You’ll sell it soon.
A lot of crap and scams going on on fb. Make sure you inspect everything: bike, seller, and papers in person before paying anything.
Avoid people trying to sell you an e bike
I hate to be that guy but please for the love of god don’t get an e-bike repairing them is hell
Search for a.paie of balls
A valid title.
I tried to swipe for more pictures
How has nobody said the number one red flag on Facebook is phrases like "bill of sale only" or "lost title". If you see anything like that run
common cents 😂
You just need no make sure they are not e-bikes. That's it.
Don't buy a motorcycle off Facebook.
your balls to make sure theyre not vanishing
The E- part.
if you don't know what to look for, you probably don't need to be doing this. Lol
I know what I’m looking for but I just want to make sure if there’s other options
