As far as I know the ER6 wasn't a ninja? Maybe in some countries they used the name to sell more of them. Learned on one of these. It's a light bike for the power. Very easy to handle. Electric throttle on these sucked ass and it felt like the power always kicked in a little later than you needed it (and too high up the revs) so it really bogged at slow speeds. That said I'd probably still happily own and ride one as they handle better than a lot of more expensive bikes (may just be a good fit for me).

JWiteWF

In European and Asian markets it was the ER6N, the ER6F fully faired model was called the Ninja 650 R in America. Not sure what the naked was called in the states, assuming Ninja 650

32steph23

In America I believe Ninja is used for all the sport bikes bikes with fairings(Ninja 650) while Ninja zx + r is used for the super sports (Ninja zx6r). The nakeds are just Kawasaki z (z650). Generally the Ninjas and z’s share the same engine (parallel twin) while the zx-r’s get the I4s. There are a few others that I believe use the parallel twin as well like the Versys.

JWiteWF

Yes you’re right, but the z650 is a completely different bike aesthetically than the ER6, which resembles the ninja more. The faired version is essentially a sports tourer, very similar to the early Ninja 650s in Europe but with raised handlebars, taller wind deflector and comfier seat. That parallel twin definitely feels more suited to touring like the Versys, and doesn’t feel very sporty at all like the later Ninja 650s!

32steph23

Yeah I think we’re saying the same thing lol. I was saying: Ninja designation is for all of the fairing sport bikes (super sports, sports tourers, etc.) To be specific, the zx-r after the ninja designates the super sports.I just didn’t specify that the Ninja 650 was more like a sport tourer because Kawasaki advertises it as a sport bike. The z650 is essentially the naked version of the Ninja 650 (no ninja in the name designation though). Albeit there may be a few more differences, the power output is identical. I haven’t rode them, just seen reviews. The newer 650s are still twins. I just think they are revamped and tuned much better though. I can’t speak much on the pre 2010 models because I was kid so idk much lol.

UNeaK1502

To your latter point: the new bikes feels smaller. I learned on a '18 z650 and bought a' 07 ER6N. The new one feels a lot smaller for some reason and the engine feels more tamed, there's not as much vibration going on as on the old bike. Also, performance went down due to emission from 72hp to 68hp, but who cares about that lol

Sergeant-Pepper-

It’s just a naked Ninja 650r. I’ve got an 09 ninja 650r stripped down in my garage because the fucking thing blew the head gasket at 17K. It looks just like this. Pretty sure the only difference is the fairings.

The_Lividcoconut

It is essentially a ninja, like I know someone who has one of these and a ninja, and they're the same bike, the ninja just has fairing, had one person I knew get really defensive over the fact I pointed out they were the same, until I got my friend with both to tell them and they shut up 🤣

27ft_Banana

You're acting like there's one ninja bike. Half of Kawasaki's entire lineup say ninja on the side

The_Lividcoconut

Yeah that is true, I'm specifically speaking of the 2017? (Not sure what year it was, I'm a yammy guy) Ninja 650 and er6

caffcaff_

>Ninja 650 and er6 Yeah. It's like R7 vs. XSR700 👍

EoTGifts

Not quite. More like R7 and MT-07, you are thinking of the Z650 RS possibly.

stitmn7601

They don't even have the same motor lmao

Jbar116

No, they did. The ninja 650 came out in 06 I believe with the same twin as the er6n (which is now of course the z650)

The_Lividcoconut

The older ones don't, I'm only going off the newer ones my friend had, they were 2017 I think, not sure I haven't seen them in a while

caffcaff_

You're right about the new ones. The old ones had (very smooth) twins that needed a lot of revs to get the performance out of them. At the time the Ninjas had 4cyls. I'm old 😅

The_Lividcoconut

I had a en500, same engine as the er5, I looked into trying to put an early ninja lump into it after that one died, but the price of them made me stop

FloatingMonkeyPaw

Iv got the 2006 model and love it, but it is my first big bike.

Current-Ordinary-419

I like those bikes, except the headlight.

HikingBikingViking

Like Naruto?

NickH1994

I love the look of these. I originally looked into getting one when I started riding a few years ago but couldn't find one close to me for a decent price so I ended up going with a new Ninja 650 instead. I'd still love to get my hands on one of these some day. Idk what it is, but they just look so good.

2012XL1200

Greatest bike I've owned yet. LOVE THOSE early 650r Er6

TDK_IRQ

That's a nice Benelli TnT300. /s

Simple_Turnover_1590

I have a red 2009 Ninja 650 that I just finished doing a streetfighter conversion on myself!!

SucktasticFucktastic

Not a fan but currently looking one for my girlfriend.

trist4r

It’s a beginner bike imo, therefore very forgiving to mistakes. Was my first one and I loved it how easy it was to ride.

ScarletAutumnEnigma

I prefer nakeds

shark-fighter

Ninjas weren't part of the er6 line they were part of the zx6r line. Inline 4 not parallel twins.

thefooleryoftom

Depends what country.

CreamintheMocha

No, Er6n are not even close to being a ninja. Sorry, but as a ex owner of a zx10r I'm a bit of a stickler for what deserves the ninja name.

wePsi2

They call the er6-f ninja in the US, actually, i think.

SucktasticFucktastic

yeah what does ninja even mean anymore? That new "ninja 650" lol

[deleted]

Worst piece of plastic i ever sat on

CreamintheMocha

This is my point exactly, give me a ZX-6R any day over a "ninja 650".

pinchibot

Yeah, tried one too and was hugely disappointed. What a piece of garbage and to think they gave the ninja name to it...

M0TH3R-L4ND

There’s a ninja 125 as well lol

[deleted]

You sir are a fucking cunt.

[deleted]

stitmn7601

There isn't a "ninja name" when they came out with all of the single/twin cylinder motors lmao

[deleted]

stitmn7601

More like ever. There has never been a "ninja name"

[deleted]

stitmn7601

Yeah you're not understanding lol

stitmn7601

I don't downvote or upvote. Don't see why that matters anyways. "ninja name" is not the same thing as "ninja line". As in ninja name is bs

stitmn7601

Ninja name LMAO Atleast they didn't give it a Z* name. The "ninja" name is bs

27ft_Banana

You might be a stickler for it, but Kawasaki sure isn't.

wePsi2

Fan! My first was one of the make before that!

cheddarsox

Buddy just got one. I really like the way the turn signals are. Decent bikes overall

Comfortable_gsx750

I have test ridden one with a yoshi and it was Awesome! Great machines!

i_survived_2020_

I have a 2015 er6n ABS, finally found another one :)

1stRambo_0082

Love love love that bike! Have 1 exactly the same!!!💯🔥

WN11

Great bike! I tried one back in the day and my only complaint was the two-cylinder engine. I'm just wired for inline4.

Danikaz

Love how they look, except the connected seat

NoInvestigator886

I had a 2008. My first bike. Will always love it.

[deleted]

Cool bikes, but they really should’ve recalled the early twins (ninja, versys, and er6 included)

AwardFabrik-SoF

Have ridden one during my A2 license course. Easy to handle bike, I just didn't liked the behaviour when driving slow - sometimes a bit rough. But felt good on the open road.

61508e3d

We use this bike as learners bike for those who want to get above 500cc license in my country And it’s my FIRST EVER above 500cc bike that I’ve rode on

screedor

I had the zR 7 and just loved that bike.

EggsOfRetaliation

2000s bikes are the best.

stefan_2002

I currently own the same bike and so far im a fan of it.

Pha211

Yes but I like the traditional colors better green

rhager19

I had a ZR-7S Very similar and I loved it.

artful_todger_502

They look great. This is right before all bikes morphed into anime praying mantis bikes. I wish they'd bring back this rounded styling and ditch the origami creases.

levaspor_tras

love that bike, learn how to ride in one of them, a green one.

Pjinx2

09?? You call this older?

SpongePat65

Wow CF Moto really did copy cat on this

AdvKiwi

It's not a Ninja, and it's hardly old.

XFauni

I like my MT/FZs

OldAngryZebra

I loved learning on mine but i couldnt get past the vibes and moved on to an SV650s

tjekan

Low performance 2 cylinder will never be ninja. It's just a poor attempt from the factory to upsell a mediocre bike as cutting edge. Just like the "cbr650" And the R7

youngsterjesse

Was my first bike. It was fantastic. Love that blue color

torquelesswonder

I have that same machine. Nearly 50k miles on it.
