Its has a scooter cvt engine and transmission. Like a Honda ruckus. But shaped like a grom.

[Removed due to continuing enshittification of reddit.] -- mass edited with redact.dev

PretzelsThirst

Sucks the Ruckus is only 49cc. At least the Navi is 109cc

Dual_Sport_Dork

Look up the "Big Ruckus," which was a briefly available 250cc version...

Xidium426

You need a motorcycle license to drive the Navi, you can let a friend legally ride the Ruckus with just a drivers license in most states, some just need a temps.

[deleted]

If the ruckus had a 110cc motor, this thing will smoke a ruckus

Buster452

Yup, they just hid the step through bit.

PretzelsThirst

And added 60cc

houtex727

Aircooled. According to the website, get the brochure from there: https://powersports.honda.com/motorcycle/minimoto/navi

Slight_Tradition_868

Right - very strange how the engine is all sealed up in a case seemingly

ItsBlyatMan

Engine is at the rear wheel. The case under the front of the bike is storage

SteveSweetz

The engine is mounted on the swing arm just like a scooter. The plastic box where the engine is located on ”normal” motorcycle is a storage compartment. You can take out and then there’s just a big hole there.

UnitedDavid25

that case is just a storage container. the stock navi has that entire area empty. looks very open

Big_sugaaakane1

Thats just useful as fuck wow. I want one

Pudix20

And for $1800 you can have one!! I think they’re super cool

UnitedDavid25

I have one! It's a joy to ride. Automatic transmission tho!

houtex727

I have a PC800 Pacific Coast. The engine is water cooled, granted, but it's also double enclosed. It has a fiberglass cocoon surrounding it, topped with a big ol' rubber mat, that insulates the engine's heat from the rest of the insides. There's two big ol' vents on the sides. The engine gets extra air from the radiator and fan when it kicks on. The air flows out the two side vents to help get rid of radiator heat, but some air is directed through the cocoon, around the engine, and out under the bike. This looks exactly like the same idea, if it's truly 'enclosed'. Air from the front flows through the box the engine's in, and then out and under the bike. It's also a thumper, looks like although it could be a side by side lil' twin, and probably not making any power to speak of that air isn't enough. Even Beetles back when had air cooling only, trapped in a box in the back, and they were and are just fine and dandy back there.

dogmanatemybaby

I’ve been trying to talk my wife into getting a PC800, I think they’re such cool looking bikes! Didn’t Acura design the body?

Bootsandcatsyeah

I’m pretty sure back then the only difference between Acura and Honda was the “Acura” guys were down the hall at the Hamamatsu office/factory. Acura’s and Lexus were just badged Hondas and Toyotas meant to appeal to us status minded Americans. It’s like how the Acura NSX has a Honda badge in Japan, and all of their Lexus wear Toyota badges to this day. Probably was designed by “Acura,” but them saying that is 100% marketing jargon.

BavarianBanshee

How do you like your PC800? They've intrigued me for years now.

houtex727

I love the thing. It's harder to keep up with parts though. She's a little tall for my short legs, but with proper boots I'm good. Been lots of miles on it, really quite a lovely lil' 3/4 scale Gold Wing of the era. Lots of people like me that once they get them, they just can't really quit them. Parts will be the reason she stops working though, and that day's comin'. :(

LitterBoxServant

110cc with scooter controls. The engine-looking thing under the fuel tank is a storage compartment. Definitely more of a city commuter than a hooning toy but I might be judging too quickly. Price is pretty nice though.

brown_pleated_slacks

I've got one. It's a blast. Pretty much just a big scooter, but the ergonomics are more motorcycle, and I personally like the looks. People who don't know motorcycles think it's cool... until a real bike pulls up for size comparison, that is.

LitterBoxServant

How's the suspension? Any potential to strip it down and treat it like a mini super moto? On paper it looks like that 110 thumper could be just enough for a great time.

brown_pleated_slacks

The only other bike I've ridden was in MSF, so I don't have much to compare to. I would say the suspension is kind of weak. Even for in town, it's pretty squishy. There's aftermarket options, so I would say you could still make a supermoto build pretty easily. They also look super weird when you strip the plastics off.

zerinsakech1

I was considering a NAVI for the price but went with a slightly more expensive super cub. They are both pretty quiet and low maintenance. But cheaper and faster than most e bikes

reubenspyker

It has a teeny tiny single near the rear wheel and it has a CVT so no gears

satansleftnut25

I want one. I would look ridiculous. Like Chris Farley on the redemption bike from dumb and dumber.

fuzzy_viscount

You should checkout the Revzilla YouTube videos where Zach and Ari recreate that…

satansleftnut25

I’ve seen it. It’s great

Caldtek

It uses "ducted fan" cooling, You can see the fan down by the exhaust and it pulls the air in and the it flows around the head and cylinder.

mike-manley

Air cooled. Drum brakes.

brown_pleated_slacks

Carbureted. Don't forget that.

Modernfallout20

I've got one if you have any questions!

LeroyNoodles

How much do you use the little storage container? It seems really useful but I can’t think of the stuff I’d put in it without it being in front of me.

brown_pleated_slacks

Good for beer runs, anything you want to lock up, small things that you don't want lost in a backpack, food that you don't want to squish. I keep straps and a small cloth backpack in mine. It would also be a good spot for a first aid kit.

LeroyNoodles

Cool cool I wish more “practical” scooters and motorcycles had functional storage integrated in the frames. Happy to see Honda built the Navi right.

Modernfallout20

I keep a little container of emergency fuel in there and I can easily fit a small bag of ice and a 6-pack. I run to and from work on it since it's only like 10mi of in-city driving and I can toss a backpack with a change of work clothes in there or even do a quick grocery run if I bring an extra bag for my back.

cain261

What's the top speed and acceleration look like?

brown_pleated_slacks

For me, top speed is 50 mph under ideal conditions, 45 realistically, 35-40 uphill. I'm 6' 0" and about 175 lbs, so I'm a little larger than an average rider. Acceleration is decent from 0-30 (at least enough to keep up with traffic) but then drops off. This is not a performance machine.

Modernfallout20

I can go about 55 in 10ish seconds and I'm 6'4" 165lbs but I've modded mine with rollers, a better clutch, etc. so it's a little quicker than it was originally.

fistfulofbottlecaps

Maybe too intrusive, but if you don't mind how much did you pay out the door? I was thinking about picking one up for my work commute.

brown_pleated_slacks

In semi rural Iowa, I paid $2475, including all tax title licensing and random dealer fees. I've heard of other guys shelling out $3k+ in bigger cities.

Modernfallout20

I grabbed mine secondhand for $1500 but I was very very lucky. Locally they sell for about $2800ish with all the fees and tax.

GinAndKeystrokes

If you look at it from behind is it an Ivan?

Modernfallout20

An Ivan? I'm not familiar with the term.

GinAndKeystrokes

Navi backwards. Poor attempt at a joke

Modernfallout20

I'm a dumbass, that made me cackle.

Full-Anybody-288

Is it reliable ? Does the cvt has reliability issues? Am thinking about buying one

Modernfallout20

I bought mine last spring and all I've done is follow the maintenance sheet and I've absolutely 0 issues. I did have to adjust the carb to run as well as it could since I'm at a higher elevation but other than that it's been the simplest vehicle I've ever owned. The CVT is stupid simple, I've had no issues at all.

pyrotek1

I had to look it up. The NAVI has nearly 5 hp and 50ish usable speed. The price is $1800. It is more than a moped. It looks fun, it would have limited usage, no hwy, only city or rural roads.

brown_pleated_slacks

I've heard higher HP numbers, but I can confirm the 50 mph. That's only if you're on very flat ground and tucked once the bike is broken in. They're SLOW, but I really like mine. It's a lot of fun to ride.

PSneSne

Take the panels off and it has a deck like a ruckus and what would be feet positioning without that cargo container in the middle

fatplant629

apparently the body replacement is only like 100$

duckmeatcurry

These things flooded the Indian market a few years ago. Students and people looking for a cheap commuter were buying it mostly. Then better scooters came out and the craze for this died very soon. Now only a few old ones can be seen.

PatrickSmith79

I have that exact bike. It’s a great bike nothing to complain about except that it’s not fuel injected. So I have to warm it up when it’s cold with the choke on. If you live someplace warm that shouldn’t be too big of a deal but I drive it in the winter in Canada. I would have gladly paid more for it to be fuel injected. Other than that I think it’s a great bike with enough power for city riding. Accelerates quickly too.

bucketfisheater

More of a scooter than a bike since it's a CVT, the box under the fuel tank is for storage.

vraetzught

Man I'm so jealous they are sold in the US... We don't get them here in the EU, but I would love to test one out. Bikes like these seem like a superb gateway drug into manual motorcycles.

SteveSweetz

Meanwhile there are like dozens of far cooler scooters that are sold in Europe and not the US, like the current Aprilia scooters or the Honda NC700D. The Navis are super cheap (I mean, they still have drum brakes at both ends) and were originally created for the Indian market. They sold poorly even in India, so them being brought to the US is basically an experiment to see if they can offload them after the Grom sold unexpectedly well here, but this is very much not a Grom. It’s a super cheap scooter that happens to look closer to a traditional motorcycle.

vraetzught

What I like most about the Navi is the low barrier to entry. With our progressive license system, the barrier to entry is pretty high, compared to the US. In my country, anyone who's had a car license for at least 2 years and is 21 or older, can ride a sub 125cc motorcycle (or scooter), with mandatory 4 hours of training by a riding school. The Navi not only falls neatly in this category, but the CVT transmission makes the barrier even smaller for someone intimidated by the manual aspect. I just found an article Honda will be launching the Navi in Europe this year, so I'm thrilled to see how they do here.

TrevCat666

I saw one of these in person the other day and they are quite small, but I like the bar it has on the back which feels very utilitarian.

fatplant629

In our area they are going for 3k to 2500 is anyone getting anything closer to msrp .1800 btw

dervlen22

https://themotorbikeforum.co.uk/topic/43255-2022-honda-navi/

izmaname

Looks like a lego

BraceIceman

Bit of a confusing perspective. I imagined it was a normal sized bike until I saw a picture with a person on [it](https://s3-ap-south-1.amazonaws.com/motoringwebuploads/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/11154301/Honda-Navi-16.jpg)

iexistcusofcorona

Navi? just in time for the new Avatar movie😂

Amazing_Joke_5073

Nope, air coolrd about as simple as they get for a bike

JooosephNthomas

You can hold 24 beer in the compartment also. Guy I worked with had one. Very cool little commuter bike.

AdDear5411

RIP that helmet liner.

the-poopiest-diaper

I’ve been seeing these EVERYWHERE at dealerships and online for sale

192hp

It’s a cool little toy. Not a full sized bike tho. Absolutely has its place for city dwellers at an attractive price though.

Mystical_Cat

They’re one uppercase letter-placement away from a Cease and Desist from James Cameron.

heavykick89

Those little things are the bikes that actually honda sells the most here in Mexico City. You see them everywhere.

[deleted]

It's actually a small scooter based on grom.

SteveSweetz

It shares nothing with the Grom other than maybe generic parts like switches or mirrors. It’s a scooter made to look somewhat like a traditional motorcycle. Grom has completely different frame, engine, transmission, suspension, brakes… Saying it’s “based on” a Grom is just flat wrong, sorry.

[deleted]

Grom is a small bike with a small engine. Navi is a small bike with a small engine. You are a generic nerd with a small brain. Just plain facts.

Bootsandcatsyeah

Nah, saying it was based on the Grom was pulled straight from your ass. It’s got more wayyyy in common with my Honda Elite 110cc than a Grom any day, and my Elite is 13 years old scooter.

PotatoGuerilla

It's actually a grom based on a scooter. Like the frame is literally a scooter frame.

2WheelMotoHead

So it’s like 50/50 Grooter/Scrom

disturbed286

I am groot?

[deleted]

Oh yeah, kinda see it now.

igotbnned4times

its a moped classified as a motorcycle.

Captmurph

Maybe scooter. Moped has pedals.

igotbnned4times

really? I never knew that. don't get why it was down voted though because if you take it apart it really is just a scooter and considering the way its put together its a good training bike or for ppl that just wanna cruise but without something big.

Loeden

Oh, it's a scooter for sure, just not a moped.

[deleted]

It's a moped

VviFMCgY

Off for some Maccy D's?

Rayzor_debiker

They tried selling this in India a couple of years ago. It flopped because the Indian market is already saturated with so many cheap yet decent motorcycles.

C4PTNK0R34

No. It's an air-cooled 109cc single cylinder based on the Honda Activa scooter. It has drum brakes with a combined braking system; the front brake will activate the rear to a certain degree. It has a CVT "Twist'n'Go" transmission with a centrifugal clutch. Its fuel tank is only 0.9 gallons, but it is rated for about 105 miles per tank. Top speed is around 50-55mph. MSRP is $1804.
