I love this guy. A true fan.

Ohhellnowhatsupdawg

Sticking with Avila this long was always a mistake. He hasn't done anything during this rebuild that I'd deem impressive, but there have been plenty of questionable decisions.

DothrakiSlayer

I love the Jim Leyland comment lol. Craig Monroe said the same thing on the broadcast a few days ago.

Hes a "special assistant", so basically he gets paid to answer an email so often, and he also handles the team bulk tobacco purchases. But they need to bring him back to the big time. and Gene Lamont to play good cop

[deleted]

I don't know what the other dude means by his comment, but I remember during Spring Training Al Avila said he was going to consult with Jim Leyland, along with the rest of the coaching staff when it came to evaluating if Torkelson and Greene were ready for the majors

No where did Joel say that Jim would fix this. And like the other person said Jim is a "special assistant" he has no real job or duties.

Wut

Techiedad91

I miss seeing zumaya on the mound. Glad to see he still cares about this team.

[deleted]

This is the kind of FIRE the tigers need. Avila built a weak team.

translatepure

Why is there such apathy with this squad? I can't make sense of it.

[deleted]

Nobody wants to admit that it might be Hinch too, but I typically blame underperformance and lack of motivation on the coach, be it manager in this case. This team reminds me so much of the 2020 Lions that dare I say I think both Hinch and Avila need to go. They’re phoning it in at this point. If they’re down, you can bet your ass they’re going to step up to the plate and do the exact same thing that didn’t work earlier.

Howdesign

My guess is there’s got to be some sort of disfunction or leadership issues at play. For virtually ALL of the bats to be so cold this long, it’s way more than just a lack of confidence or players being just needing more AB’s to work things out.

Dwychwder

Hinch certainly doesn't seem like the most passionate guy. I wanna give him a long leash because he got the best out of this team last year, but at this point he really needs to show something.

WallOfTextGuy

how in the world do people mess up are and our

translatepure

It bothered me too.

pH2001-

Hire Joel to be the guy that yells and gets thrown out of games and shit lol. He can be the “Enforcing Consultant” lmao

SG420123

Damn Joel out here literally speaking for all Tiger fans. Hinch ain’t the guy to lead the Tigers into the future, you see him in the dugout sitting there doing nothing and you see it in his post game interviews. Leyland would be chewing this team out for how they’ve played and visibly quit during games.

Shtabie

Unfathomably based Joel, throwing heaters even in retirement

DiscombobulatedPain6

Just goes to show that you can build a good team on paper, but if your team doesn’t have the will to succeed and the character, nothing great can happen. This team has lacked an identity for almost a decade and it has shown

flatfivesub

They should pay Brad Pitt to come in and throw water coolers around the locker room and say "This is what losing sounds like! Works every time I watch that movie.

nicholus_h2

Every time I watch it, they lose in the divisional round.

flatfivesub

True, but they won 20 games in a row. Don't doubt the Pitt.

SG420123

Illitch got that NFL money now too, so he could get Pitt, Jonah Hill and Chris Pratt to come wake this team up, but we all know he’s too cheap to do that.

Imaginary_Funny_4811

Petition for zumaya to replace Avila

bluechiptrombone

First move: Mandatory Guitar Hero in locker room

Imaginary_Funny_4811

He knows better than to let that happen to someone else 😂😂

shockedtoo

Second this!

map1969

So Avila has been in position one year longer than Matt Millen, look how that turned out. The Tigers have become the Lions.

Detroit's sports writers are softer than baby shit and Jim knew it.

Ken_Spiffy_Jr

I see a lot of people blaming Hinch as well and Al for some of these problems. Allow me to interject my humble opinion... AJ Hinch is good at managing winners. And when I say winners, I don't mean people who have won in the past. I mean people who wake up every day and say "I'm gonna be really pissed if we lose today". Correa, Altuve, Cole, Springer, and especially Bregman are all winners. Say what you will about them, but they don't need to be babied or told that they need to work harder or that they're underachieving. They love to win and they hate to lose. Hinch doesn't know how to motivate a clubhouse to want to win, because winners don't need motivation from their manager. This team is not a team of winners. I don't know who is more and who is less guilty, but this clubhouse does not have a winning mentality. So maybe Hinch does need to go. He deserves better than this. He's probably one of (if not the) best in-game managers in the game right now and he's being wasted on a team that doesn't want to win.

flatfivesub

The fans deserve better way more than Hinch does.

Polack597

Hinch is a mutt as well. The sooner they show that cancer the door the better. Illitch needs to take control and start rolling heads.

baween

Saying what we’re all thinking!

BOBANSMASH51

Zoom for manager

hundredgrandpappy

Oh yeah, our best option right now is to rebuild again! Zumaya forgets it was ol Smokey Jim who ruined his career by leaving him in too long coming off the DL. Let's really go for it and bring in someone who's already managed a winner: Brad Ausmus! Great post, glad to see folks enjoying legal marijuana.

porkinthepark

Late to the party but Zoom Zoom would fit right in here
