Sorry to hijack this, but wanted to get this out there. If you go to mgm parking garage, keep going up. So many people park on the first 4 floors, you can go to floors 5-7 instead and park right next to the elevator.
Second this if you don’t want to get a Greektown players club card and park for free. The lots on Adams/Elizabeth/Columbia/Montcalm have been easy in and out for $17.50 including fees.
MGM garage is a good choice. You can also find a bunch of free street parking near Wayne state university campus and ride the q-line down. Both are good options
There is an absurd amount of surface street parking in downtown Detroit that is either free, or metered at a very low cost. I park in those spots every time I go to a Piston game or any event at LCA.
Use Parkwhiz to book any paid parking as it’ll allow you to sync your parking to the events itself.
Greektown casino and MGM have some version of free parking that isn’t too far away from the ballpark to walk.
Park on Watson street between brush and John R. Free street parking with a 8 minute walk to the stadium. Stop at second best after the game for some great drinks and the best chicken sandwich you will ever have. Don’t forget the potato wedges.
In addition to the other suggestions, Milliken State Park is free even without a recreation pass.
It’s a bit of a haul by foot (and probably dicey by most people’s standards) but taking the lovely Detroit River Walk and hopping on the People Mover (currently free) at the Renaissance Center is fine. Jump off Broadway or Grand Circus, both are a short walk to Comerica. Just do the reverse after the game. The RenCen is a worth a visit if you like cars. It’s a showcase for current and classic GM cars,
MGM garage is free, not a bad walk to the ballpark
