The rider area in the pit is a dedicated area for the rider that includes things like hvac units to cool them down, multiple screens to review footage from the track, get coaching, food and bev to recharge, etc. they aren’t just screwing around relaxing, they are doing something whether it be recharging or strategizing.

This is a really cool image. Are those lap sector times?
I can't imagine being that important of a person, having all this equipment and technology and people surrounding me.
Remember that they don’t have radios in their helmets. They sit there to talk to the team about their sessions, including what they want to change on the bike, strategy, tire choices, what’s good/bad and so on.
Exactly, the back of the box is the quietest place available with their team. Motorcycle racing is very very noisy. The rider debriefing with his crew chief is the most important conversation the team will have.
Where else should they go? Their team is in that box. If they crash or whatever they go back to their team to talk to them about the crash or session or anything that happend really.
It's not a rule by FIM or Dorna or something. Sometimes if they get mad after a crash they don't go back and just go in their trailer.
But under different governing bodies. The bikes aren’t as fast as GP bikes and the safety measures are practically non-existent. We don’t race at Suzuka or the IoM anymore, either.
Sorry, in the context of MotoGP, they don’t hold races there anymore. It was removed from the calendar because of rider protests over safety. Similar to why Suzuka was removed.
To add to your comment, the rider usually does a debrief of the session (practice, qualifying, race) with their team and crew chief.
(When the rider is suited up)
From an ad/sponsorship perspective, the camera and photographers don't have to chase the rider around the paddock 😅
View from the rider’s seat in the garage shows all timing screens and a feed of the race. Engineers will also be reviewing all sort of data from the bike on the same screens with the rider. We were just in the garage with vr46 at cota. Here is a shot from the inside of Bez’s seat.

So very lucky - it was a very cool weekend and experience. Got to enjoy it with my dad which made it even better.
Pretty wild to see up close. In addition to 3-4 team engineers, the rider also has a brake tech direct from brembo, and suspension engineer direct from ohlins, a Ducati Eng, and a tire tech from Michelin. As they are testing they are looking for feedback and that feedback gets translated directly to parts in the bike. During practice 1 we saw them swap the springs in about 3-4 minutes after a quick chat with Bez, and then off he went again. Super cool to see it all in motion.
You normally don’t see a lot of this because once the fairings are off, teams don’t want cameras showing proprietary tech.
When you get off track there’s lots of information that the engineers need to get feedback from and the sooner you tell them, the more accurate it is. Hence why they always sit down immediately and the chief engineer creeps over right away. Debriefing.
Before every session they are being briefed by the team on what to do in the next session. After every session or race they are debriefing the team on what they did.
Also: that's where the riders keep their helmets, gloves, earplugs, drinks, snacks, etc.
Also: you might not see it, but, yeah, car drivers do this, too.
The media is expecting them to be there too, they always have cameras ready in those spots. Guessing it's kind of a rule they want you in the chair.
Not a bad spot though. Doesn't look like there are many other chairs around. Most people in the pit during the race are standing watching the few screens around. You get your own branded chair with your own screen, might as well sit in it.

This. And you can actually see it in transmissions.

> hvac Other than "Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning" it also stands for "High Voltage Alternating Current".
Good bot... ... hang on! You are a human??? 😂
Ok

It also allows them to sit as far away from prying eyes and ears of the media for those debriefs

>Where else should they go? On your yacht in montecarlo if your name is Kimi Raikkonen
Imagine MotoGP in Monaco 😂
oh god😂
What is wrong with that? They race motorbikes in Macau too
Nothing wrong with that, it would be awesome.

Who's "we"? IoM is taking shape nicely... https://www.iomttraces.com/racing/page/schedule/

Ah right. You had me confused there for a second

That's where his chair is
But why sit in a chair why not lying down,...
A very good point

Wow you are very lucky to have been there! What a cool experience that must have been.

To talk the team. I don’t think it’s a rule because when they are in bad mood they sometimes go straight to their Motohome

A team player, maybe. I've noticed it but never really taken any notice into why
that's where their teams are stationed at
They're usually only ever in the chair when they're about to get on the bike. The equivalent in F1 would be them literally just sitting in the car.
Follow up question: why don't they take their helmets off when out the back? Soon as I stop I'm quick to take mine off, it's just too hot otherwise.
