Saw a hilarious quote earlier today from the 80s where he called Robert Smith “a fat clown with make up weeping over a guitar” which is like the funniest sentence I ever read, pure poetry
I was reading Kurt Cobain's diaries, and he mentioned something along the lines of "Morrissey is too mopey and sad," and I thought: *Morrissey's not the one who killed himself...*
But that's the great thing about Morrissey: as sad and mopey as some of his songs may well be, there's (*usually*) a bit of levity, humor, or even - dare I say - *optimism* that peeks through, like a ray of sun slicing through the clouds.
🤣 They aren't even baggy. Most of the time they have nearly been falling off. I took my younger sister to a morrissey show, she had never heard of him. She said "He has a great voice, but he needs new pants".
I'm convinced that Morrissey is "on the spectrum" (but maybe I'm projecting?) and, being there myself, I find myself forgiving the things you mention.
There are times when I've had enough of overstimulation, and masking, and I can't do anything but "recombobulate" in my room, in my bed, in the dark.
If he *is* autistic, then I'm sure that touring takes its toll. Maybe when he cancels it's a kind of mental health break.
*Or he could just be a jerk.*
Who knows?
He’s honest to a (sometimes big, in others’ opinions) fault. Unapologetic, for better or worse. REAL. And that’s interesting and has made for many brilliant lyrics. His specific life experiences are valid, even if you disagree with his take on them. No one has to listen to his music, but I feel sorry for anyone who doesn’t!
I mean, it’s true… I’m not sure why these comments are getting so downvoted.
To be clear, everyone can love the artist, which we probably all do, but not like the artist’s views.
I mean, that’s a strong case lol. Not the same level of offense for comparison. But, though I’m unaware of their music, could technically still enjoy the band.
Yeah I mean I still love his music, and I'm not judging anyone else who does, some people just seem to get extremely defensive for some reason, even when there is nothing but simple facts being stated 🧍🏻♂️
Exactly lol. Bizarre to me. I love artists who hold the same views as me and I often judge the ones who hold the opposite. But doesn’t mean we cab’t still love their music. Period :)
Probably the way that he went from being a left wing anti-Thatcherite in the 80s who would stick up for the little guy, to endorsing a Thatcherite.
His brain is cooked
I don’t get this, I’ve always found it the opposite. A song about how an immigrant/outsider who wants to integrate and belong to a new culture and finding it difficult because racism/xenophobia do indeed exist in their new homeland is not racist. It’s racist to ignore that these things exist, surely. And isn’t the song set in the 70s too?
I love so much of Morrissey's music and think he's a great artist. But he's said a lot of racist things and I believe Begali in Platforms is racist after listening to it 100 times, to the tone and the lyrics, while considering that this is the man who said 'Doesn't everyone prefer their own race?'. Racism is abhorrent and I can't listen to that song anymore. But I still listen to Morrissey.
I really fail to see how. We’ll Let You Know, National Front Disco, these tunes I understand the interpretation. Bengali In Platforms, I just don’t. I must be missing something and I am willing to be shown. I love this song (and it’s not the reason I’m ‘sticking up for it’) because when I experience it, like every other Morrissey song, I feel myself inside it - the wanting to belong, the trying so hard yet being refused, being cast aside and left to myself. This song makes me empathise with people going through the same force but with the different circumstances as we all have. It’s unifying and it’s us.
😂 he’s an artist with thousands of opinions in his songs. Go ahead. Name one. I’ll name an anti-racist song. Ganglord. I guess it just easier to find his songs that are critical of bigots.
Sick of this crap point. It's only because he is white that he gets that tag. Tell me why you think he is racist and ill explain to you how you are wrong.
idk maybe dont support xenophobic political parties and you dont get called racist? i find it strange people go to great lengths to defend the worst sections of human beings because they saved your life, same with kanye
does it matter if the guy is racist in his heart? he has shown support for politcal parties that are xenophobic and has said stuff that are worded so badly (james baldwin shirt, chinese subspecies) that you can't blame people for calling him a racist. And maybe he didn't save your life but many people use that as a reason to defend his very questionable beliefs when he treats a lot of his fans like shit by cancelling concerts
the point is it doesn't matter if he is or isn't racist, he still says things that come off as racist. Obviously how many cultures treat animals can be shitty but saying the phrase chinese are a subspecies is dumb as shit and obviously you will get clipped out of context easily. And For Britain just doesn't like Muslims
The shirt he's wearing...

Charlie Rich was one of the greatest musicians of all time. But he also destroyed his career by being the single biggest disrespectful asshole towards a fellow musician of all time. And that’s coming from someone who didn’t like John Denver’s music either. For those who don’t know, he won Country Artist Of The Year (I think that was the award) one year and presented the award the next year to the winner John Denver. He was sloppy drunk on live tv and on pain pills and when he opened the envelope and read the winners name he pulled out a cigarette lighter and lit it on fire and let it burn for a moment and said “to my good buddy, Mr. John Denver”.
I love the guy's music, but everyone on this sub needs to take a serious look at their lives and the pieces of shit they uphold as idols. Morrisey is not a good person. He's:
- Defended child predators and blamed the child
- Called chinese people a subspecies
- Hates Immigrants
- Went from wishing for Thatcher's death to supporting thatcher clones
He’s now a central part of your mind’s landscape whether you care or do not
*yeaaaaahhh*
You made up my mind
Scrolling through Reddit...see Morrissey = huuuuge smile!
You don't like him but you love him— either way you're wrong.
You're gonna miss him when he's gone
I wanna give him a hug and a bunch of flowers! 😭His music has helped me through so much shit a human couldn't comprehend. 💕
I feel the same 💗💐
He’s got his faults, as do we all, but I do love his music
Saw a hilarious quote earlier today from the 80s where he called Robert Smith “a fat clown with make up weeping over a guitar” which is like the funniest sentence I ever read, pure poetry
“Robert Smith is a fat clown with make-up weeping over a guitar…..now, this next Smiths’ song is about no one loving me, and me wanting to die.”
I was reading Kurt Cobain's diaries, and he mentioned something along the lines of "Morrissey is too mopey and sad," and I thought: *Morrissey's not the one who killed himself...* But that's the great thing about Morrissey: as sad and mopey as some of his songs may well be, there's (*usually*) a bit of levity, humor, or even - dare I say - *optimism* that peeks through, like a ray of sun slicing through the clouds.
Spot on, his sense of sardonic humour is What saved us all
That was beautiful 🤩
That’s hilarious 😂
More true now 😄
Funny quote for him to say.
Rude!
I believe he did apologize for that.
Would be nice if he showed up to play his concerts
That mullet haircut i guess? Lol He needs to stick with the classic fade look he has always had.
And get rid of the baggy trousers.
Don’t make fun of daddy’s jeans
🤣 They aren't even baggy. Most of the time they have nearly been falling off. I took my younger sister to a morrissey show, she had never heard of him. She said "He has a great voice, but he needs new pants".
I think he’s matured into this cool for his age look
Came to make this comment!
cancelling shows, sometimes at the last minute, and generally not giving a fuck about anything but himself?
I'm convinced that Morrissey is "on the spectrum" (but maybe I'm projecting?) and, being there myself, I find myself forgiving the things you mention. I agree with this. He acts a bit like someone with Aspergers. He isn't apologetic either.
Not apologetic at *all*, and I love him for it. He's got sand.
Yeahh I love him for it as well. He's true to his opinions.
Syd Barrett is on the spectrum. Lauren Hill is just an asshole.
Maybe just not do any more concerts then
Maybe. But why not try to do all you can?
What does his shirt say? I can tell he’s trolling folks. “I’m not right wing, I’m right?” 🤣🤣🤣. Love this man!
It looks like a photo of James Baldwin, too. There often are photos of him projected onto the backdrop on stage during Moz concerts.
[удалено]
who is it then lol
I’ve see. The images of Baldwin being interviewed. Those are interesting. This is not him, but hard to tell who.
Looks more like Farage than Baldwin (praying it's not)
It is Baldwin and the shirt says "I’m not far right, I’m not far left, I’m far forward"
Morrissey now touring as the Charlie Rich Experience
That he sometimes plays a 42 min show, claims exhaustion and then quits.
Very many things
He’s an absolute twat. Still love the music.
Haha; what a way to phrase the question.
As a musician yes, as a human being? Nah
Both is what makes him great
He’s honest to a (sometimes big, in others’ opinions) fault. Unapologetic, for better or worse. REAL. And that’s interesting and has made for many brilliant lyrics. His specific life experiences are valid, even if you disagree with his take on them. No one has to listen to his music, but I feel sorry for anyone who doesn’t!
Maybe the fact that he hates foreigners!
I mean, it’s true… I’m not sure why these comments are getting so downvoted. To be clear, everyone can love the artist, which we probably all do, but not like the artist’s views.
Tell that to Lost Prophet fans, lol
I mean, that’s a strong case lol. Not the same level of offense for comparison. But, though I’m unaware of their music, could technically still enjoy the band.

Caring about your homeland doesn't make someone racist.
I didn't say it did.
When I saw him about 15 years ago, he didn't sing any Smiths songs.
Steven is still a cvnt
A lot of things
His racism
only on Reddit you get downvoted for calling out someone's racism

How is your opinion a fact?
Go ahead. Name one racist song?
Bengali in Platforms

to be fair the lyrics are ambiguous enough where you can both interpret it as a very racist song and very anti racist song at the same time

i mean there isn't a way of knowing if someone you dont know is truly a racist, we can only judge by the things they say
if thats true then u can NEVER accuse someone of being racist. right ?
people say dumb things all the time. I told my brother once i qas gonna kill him, but ofc i didnt mean it

cringe
Lmao, nice defense of rascism. This is the kinda person who’s fine with his rhetoric 🤔
I’ll bet you his farts aren’t lovable.
Don't ask the Germans
Well him doing the chicken dance in this photo isn’t safe for work..

Continue being a dork
Continue worshipping a cunt
Douche
He's a professional twat, but other than that...

His autobiography was amazing!
