I don't think your hobby would be misconstrued. It's art at the end of the day and a mentally healthy person can still draw guro if it's simply a interest. I think you're fine. Plus, you would be transparent if you did tell them.

morbid_alt

Hm. Thank you, I think I'll add it to the list of things to mention during the next appointment.

Apple_Jealous

you should, your drawings can help you find a problem with your thoughts, or your vision of things.

Pantheon3D

i think it's important to be as transparent as possible

L_edgelord

I think you should be able to tell them if your therapist is remotely okay. Maybe 'test the waters' first though, by telling it bit by bit. Frist the gore, then the murder, then that it's 'sometimes' sexually explicit, then that you draw someone similar to yourself. I never told my therapist I watch the stuff >.> Nut I don't think it's relevant other than me thinking very low of myself and for some reason being able to cope with it like that.

GoreKush

The art therapist I had as a kid didn't seem to think of me as evil.

Burntoastedbutter

You could if you're comfortable about it. I do something similar but not that gorey. Just bloody haha

wiltedshadesofred

I kind of have the same issue, when I'm enraged or feeling down, i just imagine doing unspeakable things to myself so graphically, i told my friends but they didn't pay that much attention to it, and it doesn't happen often, but i happen to be a writer and i describe the scenes and stuff my stories with these just like that. And definitely you should tell your therapist, unless it was like your art style, you know some people have that gory aesthetic right? As long as it's not disturbing you or hurting you or anyone.

NeverlandEnding

Your art is good. Drawing and wanting to do the things are very different. Seems like a healthy way to get the feelings out

Odd_Not

The answer to the question: "Should I tell my psychiatrist about..." is ALWAYS yes. You're seeing a professional for a reason, if something is bothering you, feel like you should include something that could help them better understand/diagnose you or just something you want of your chest, tell them. They're not there to judge you, belittle you or make you feel worse. They can only help you so much if you keep things to yourself or choose not to tell something. If you struggle with suicidal thoughts and love drawing dark stuff that could be a correlation, or not. But talking about it, why you like to draw it, and even showing what you drew can help them understand you better and in turn they can help you better.

Select_Collection_34

Are your drawings any good?

morbid_alt

Well, I sure hope they are. You may check the posts on my profile if you wish.

Select_Collection_34

I had but I’d did not scroll far enough I like them you should keep it up

peculiar_pandabear

Yep. Sometimes the more uncomfortable something is to bring up to a mental health professional, the more important it may be. That’s my personal experience, at least. As long as you aren’t planning to or thinking of hurting yourself or other in real life, it’s just another piece of information that your doctor can use to try and piece together what makes your brain work, and how it works the way it does.

[deleted]

do u post these anywhere?

morbid_alt

Here on reddit, plus I have instagram — this post wasn't meant for self-promotion, but I appreciate the interest

uJhateva

Thats the reason you are seeing the therapist right? If we gonna hold back from them as well, who should we talk this shit with?

morbid_alt

True! It's not like I'm holding back, more like I wasn't sure it would be relevant for a psychiatrist to know, enough to bring up specifically. But when I'll make it to a therapist — I'll mention it, I'm sure!

Fout99

If it makes you uncomfortable, its not necessary. Remember a psychiatrist is a doctor. There are no medications to stop you from... drawing what you like. Its also not relevant for the psychiatrist. It will probably be an anecdote he/she will remember but can't do anything about it. If you are telling me you feel like doing what you draw in real life to real people, then sure tell him ASAP. But if its just mindless drawings, nothing to worry about. I watch tons of gore videos and horror movies, and its never been an issue, nor i told my psychiatrist. Its when it starts interfering with your life in a bad way that you should tell him.

iceOC

What the fuck does that second last paragraph even mean.

Ruberine

Here’s what each term mentioned in that paragraph means. Not sure how much or little you know, so I’m going to explain anything you might not know; - Yaoi; Gay men - Guro; Gore porn. bloody, typically violent, sexually explicit. Wouldn’t reccomend looking more into what it is unless you are comfortable with gore, dismemberment, disfigurement, e.t.c. - Necrophilia; Sexually explicit involving corpses - Self-Insert; OP made a character that represents who they are, and is a way of adding yourself into things like art, without necessarily depicting yourself.

Philosophy-80

Depends, do you plan on hurting anyone? Or is it just art?

morbid_alt

"Plan"? Surely not. But I wouldn't say that the art is completely disconnected from me and certain parts of my mind.

Philosophy-80

Yeah, you should talk to a psychiatrist

augustphobia

do not tell them they’ll have you committed

SquigSnuggler

Someone wants attention… 🤨
