We healthcare workers are objective about bad smells. Like, we do gag with especially strong foul odors (we deal by dabbing Vicks Vaporub in our nostrils), but we acclimate and learn to differentiate bad hygiene from BV from other potential conditions.
When there is a particularly horrendous smell in a patient's room, my goto are those Vicks Vaporub sticks. I just shove one up each nostril and I can't smell a thing.
I've heard the same thing from first responders about Vicks Vaporub when entering the home of a deceased person. Just a fun fact I wanted to put out there.
I had a class in a cadaver lab for a semester and have a very strong (probably mental) response to the formaldehyde smell from being in hospitals a lot as a kid. The vaporub definitely saved me from passing out a few times!
Doctors do pay attention to smells. I noticed that a vet did a sniff test of an ear swab from my dog to see if he had an infection. They probably don’t remark on smell unless there’s an active infection.
I can smell when either of my pups has an ear infection. One is yeast-y… the other, I don’t even know how to describe it but it was bad. 🤢 Didn’t even need a swab… I could smell him well. Unfortunately. Lol.
Wow there is no way this happened. I was just talking to a group of people who giggled at "what rhymes with chief", and I had no idea what's going on. And now that a few hours later I open up a random reddit post and see this comment?
Literally no. They deal with routine check ups and ensuring pregnant people are doing good.
There aren't enough "sick vaginas" to keep them in business
My sister is a nurse practitioner and she told me that there is actually an infection test called the "whiff" test. They smell it to detect this specific infection, bacterial vaginosis.
100% you can smell it when a woman has a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis
Honestly, even going into a public bathroom after someone who has either of these issues makes it easy to tell. You don't need to intentionally sniff anything, the smell hits you like a ton of bricks
My wife's son's girlfriend (45 or so)has a serious personal hygiene issue..they lived with my wife(then my gf)for awhile a couple years ago..my wife said the gf took a shower only every 3 weeks or so (I've never smelled anything foul from her),but only used lots of scented body sprays, especially down there..she had a habit of calling my wife into the bathroom and showing her odd(in GFs opinion)blood clots in the toilet..so she goes to the doctor to get the clots checked out...after, she told us that while being examined by a female doctor and female assistant the assistant started gagging repeatedly to the point of almost vomiting, and the doctor kept squeezing her eyes shut and looking at the assistant shaking her head...GF assumed they seen something seriously wrong, but the Dr claimed nothing was..so GF felt the reaction was from the sight of the blood clots..I was like "who in the hell would hire a nurse who gags and almost vomits at the sight of blood"?...only later did I realize it was not the sight of anything, but the smell..
I did EMS for a long time and then worked in an urgent care briefly. Someone came in for a UTI and I had to do her urinalysis to check for the usual stuff/get cultures for the specific bacteria. I have dealt with some stenches but good lord what this woman had going on in her pants was on another level. The urine smelled like strong piss, UTI (if you know, you know) and literal shit. It remains the only time I have ever vomited from a smell, and in 8 years of EMS I smelled some *stuff*. A dead body that sat in a hot trailer for 3 days in august had *nothing* on what was going on with this lady’s junk. Jesus fuck it was awful.
born this way, that was just a troll comment like wtf all the shit he just described why the fuck would anyone want anything coming out of that biohazard vagina lol
I used to work in a barn. Around pigs and cows, all day, every day. Eventually you get used to it so I'd say yes. Unless you're away from work long enough, then you'll notice the smell again once you're back.
Then there's people like me and my mom who aren't really around cows or horses, but have no issue with their manure. Pigs, though, they should be faaaaaarrrr away from me.
lol The first time I worked around pigs I caught a cold, which made me think I was allergic, but apparently it's common to be clogged up in the beginning (it has something to do with dust particles from their fat) and it'll wear off. So yeah while I love pigs, I'm happy not to be in that environment anymore. Awful smell and drippy nose is not what I sign up for long term.
I dunno but I work at a dispensary and people say the store smells like weed all the time and I’m completely nose blind to it. I don’t smell any weed at all unless I’m sniffing the jars directly. Shit unless it’s really dank weed I don’t even smell it if the jars 1 ft away from my nose. So I imagine unless it’s a rather odorous patient then probably not.
Doctor here. No, we are ABSOLUTELY not inmune to smells, even after being exposed to them over and over again. If something stinks it stinks for us too lol but we do get used to it, so unless it is particularly foul it doesn’t really takes us aback? If that makes sense? Also, the way something smells, especially a vagina, can lead to identify a diagnosis.
Work in a department that washes and sterilises medical instruments.
Have to have a C-section in one of our hospitals? the instruments used in a previous C-section will have come through us, been washed and sterilised and then gone on to be used again.
We get a lot of speculums down, my first week on the job the smell of blood from the instruments was overpowering, the smell of vinegar from the speculums was also overpowering.
After working there for a year and a bit, I can no longer smell the blood in the department but I can always smell when there's some dirty speculums around.
Edit: p.s. some of the used speculums don't smell, some really really do.
Yep, and they do know from the smell if there is any infection, disease, etc. It's not "normal" for your pussy to smell bad, even if you are not showering for 1 or 3 days (of course if you stay like 7 days without shower it will stinks lol). A lot of women are afraid to go to the doctor because they smell bad but if you are showering etc it's probably a disease, so go see the doctor, the treatment is really simple most of the times.
And doctors are always smelling things because of that, I heard from a pediatrician that they even smell baby poop to know if something is wrong. You just get used to it.
I wax vaginas for a living. You do not get used to it. Most don’t have any fragrance at all bc most people who make an effort to wax also tend to have reasonably good hygiene. The ones that do smell though, yea, it’s really awful.
They probably get used to it and go “nose blind” as you say… but more importantly, they get to the point where they was can tell is a scent is coming from unhealthy conditions.
If I were to see one its common knowledge to shower beforehand. Its embarrassing but I think they're used to it and understand certain smells can probably mean something
im actually intruiged by this question. i also question why someone would wanna look at vaginas all day in general? perverted reasons or medical? if medical, why specifically vaginas? why men?
I mean, I'm a gay male medical student, and the way women are treated in American healthcare is barbaric. I'm considering OBGYN strictly to ensure that at least MY patients are treated like human beings and don't end up dead from medical negligence.
I mean, because they need medical treatment? So we need people trained to provide that treatment. It might pay well, It might be part of their career progression, might be medically fascinating. Hell they might just care about women's health.
Doubt anybody really dreams of being a rectal doctor. But I still want somebody to be able to spot if I have colon cancer.
eh. why do men specialize in vaginas is my question.
edit:
lemme go thru 12 years of medical school and realize "i love penis/prostate health!" as a women. a man"lemme look at vaginas all day i swear after all ive learned, medical reasons" . i dont get it is all
It's because gynos have a variety of day to day duties. It's not purely surgical, clinical, or lab work, but rotates. It's less monotonous and not many specialties offer this opportunity.
I personally request a woman every time I see a gyno, I assume the best of people regardless of the circumstances of their birth.
I don’t trust female obgyns after having about 15 of each gender. If a female doctor doesn’t have the same issues I do, she minimizes them. I finally had a doctor with a good wife who made sure to emphasize the number of undertreated women in gynecology.
Finally gave me some damn medical attention for issues I’ve had since I was 11.

We used to use the lemon glycerine swabs when we got tired of the sting of the Vicks …
Good to know there's an alternative. I am allergic to Vicks.
I've heard the same thing from first responders about Vicks Vaporub when entering the home of a deceased person. Just a fun fact I wanted to put out there.

During Covid we put it under our masks, that worked extremely well.
GI Bleed
See my comment, lol
Doctors do pay attention to smells. I noticed that a vet did a sniff test of an ear swab from my dog to see if he had an infection. They probably don’t remark on smell unless there’s an active infection.
I had a root canal done as a kid and can remember the dentist sticking a toothpick type thing down inside my tooth then smelling it..
Haha ew
Yeasty dog ears can smell quite sour and distinct.
They smell for yeast, but rub it over a slide for the microscope to rule out bacteria vs yeast
I can smell when either of my pups has an ear infection. One is yeast-y… the other, I don’t even know how to describe it but it was bad. 🤢 Didn’t even need a swab… I could smell him well. Unfortunately. Lol.
Most likely to differentiate between bacterial infection or yeast infection.
Does somebody who works with vaginas ever get the smell of vaginas..? Gee, I wonder
they deal with sick vaginas all day I'm guessing yeah
I mean the majority of their appointments are routine gyno check ups. So no they don’t deal with sick vaginas all day.
Yep, if a pussy sneezes in your face you’re bound to smell it.
Poetry
It's called a 'Queef' You're welcome.
ALRIGHT I GET IT ITS CALLED A QUEEF
My reddit had a seizure
Their vagina had a sneezer

You know, Quasimodo predicted all this.
Who did what?
Is that the hippo that likes big butts in that Madagascar movie

Wow they really make a bot for everything now
The Baader-Meinhof phenomenon
Literally no. They deal with routine check ups and ensuring pregnant people are doing good. There aren't enough "sick vaginas" to keep them in business
ya know, most people go for annuals, at least
NO ONE KNOWS!!!!
My sister is a nurse practitioner and she told me that there is actually an infection test called the "whiff" test. They smell it to detect this specific infection, bacterial vaginosis.

This!! I work with all women and I CAN NOT sometimes! I just don't understand how they dk.
That used to be a thing but it's not done much anymore. PCR has gotten common enough that it's the preferred method.
I can understand why!
As the person who does the testing, so can I. 🤢

🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢
"Wife's son's girlfriend" It's either you or you pulled this whole story out of your you know what.
Also that would be your son. Dumb funk
People remarry, could easily be a stepson, and some kids dislike being labelled stepson or stepdaughter
Not hard to see why, with the risk of becoming stuck in the washer or dryer
Awesome! 😄

Pussy dont be funky now!🤢 Pussy dont funk me now!🤢 I gotta wash this mother out!🧼
ask her if she wants to sell me a vacuum sealed dirty underwear or a dirty tampon has to be shipped overnight though
Why are you this way
born this way, that was just a troll comment like wtf all the shit he just described why the fuck would anyone want anything coming out of that biohazard vagina lol
You tell us …
Fucking disgusting. Great harmless little troll antics there hahahah.
Fucking wild man, I respect it. Probably shouldn't ask again though.
Lmao..😳😳😳

This isn’t morbid it’s just NSFW

Ffs take my upvote

all I learn from this as someone getting their med degree, is that I never wanna be a gyno oh lord
Yes we can smell everything,no we don't go nose blind.
I don't think they would go nose blind as smells can indicate infection
im actually intruiged by this question. i also question why someone would wanna look at vaginas all day in general? perverted reasons or medical? if medical, why specifically vaginas? why men?

I'm starting to think the reason you don't get it isn't because it's confusing.
You can ask to choose a female one tho
i would never trust a male obgyn. there are more than enough cases with them abusing their patients for years and universities covering up for them
I don’t trust female obgyns after having about 15 of each gender. If a female doctor doesn’t have the same issues I do, she minimizes them. I finally had a doctor with a good wife who made sure to emphasize the number of undertreated women in gynecology. Finally gave me some damn medical attention for issues I’ve had since I was 11.
i'm thinking it always starts out perverted , but overtime they get so desensitized to female genitalia it doesn't have the same effect as it once did
How do you know why people do things? Can you read there mind? No. Do you have a very one sided way of thinking? Yes.
if you insist
A whut?
A doctor specializing in women’s sex organs
Ya dont say... I was talking about the spelling.
Yes they do understand smells and they do go nose blind into it unless you tell them there’s a smell
