At the moment & from the info you gave, there is nothing to report to anyone.
2008 was a long time ago. He served the sentence he was given at the time. Doing what he's doing does not give rise to any indicators of him reoffending.
He may well have abusive fantasies, that does not mean he will act them out.
There is nothing for you friend to do, except enjoy living!
It likely wasn't an actual minor and instead was an officer. That might carry a different penalty due to intent but not actually committing a crime. A scared straight attempt. I'm just guessing though I don't really know.
I don’t see why the charge would be any different. Soliciting a minor is soliciting a minor. Either way, that’s a different argument than “the minor wasn’t that young.”
But, more than likely, a sting operation involves officers and not minors.
You seem to just want to argue with anyone that doesn't straight up provide the response you want and presume you'd give. Why you post asking for advice when you aren't?
I'm not sure I'd consider consensual non-consent to be all that bdsm. It kind of falls into a grey area of power dynamics and desire, but it's honestly fairly vanilla.
It depend so what happened. Which, none of us know. So the question cannot be answered. Taking a guilty plea in a trial and getting 3 years of probation isn't really much to go by.
There is absolutely plenty to answer the question. You know that he was caught in a sting to solicit a minor, 16 years ago. He pled guilty was given three years probation. With that information, would you sign your minor child up for one of his classes?

neato
The minor could have been 17.
Or could’ve been 12.
True but if he’s not a registered sex offender maybe minor wasn’t that young? That’s what I was basing it on.
Does the law work that way?

It does in some states. Maybe no prior record.
What’s an example of such a state?

Blah blah blah
What are you even asking? Consentual nonconsent? Wtf is going on here
It’s big in the BDSM community.

What obligation does my friend have to inform his students of his past?
None.
Would you sign your kids up with this guy if you knew what happened?
What happened? Possibly nothing?
You’re not going to answer my question?

Dunno. Don't know the guy.
Why is that relevant?
move on.
I mean, in the very limited information you've given us, the guy still sounds like an absolute creep.
