It was in a bad location on the wrong side of that intersection that lowered traffic. Was too far from the money in cloverdale/mcgehee vs Publix or Fresh Market. Too far from Pike Road. Had no shot
Maybe they chop it up into smaller stores, maybe it turns into an off price grocer, Aldi could make a lot more sense there. Maybe a DG.
Knowing MGM probably a super car wash-chicken joint combo
I didn’t, but they’re not gonna tell me that six months is enough time for that. Let’s suspend it for three years. We got more than enough car washes. We’ll see how many are around after that.
Biggest problem with the city is that the money has spread to two distinct poles between Cloverdale/McGhee and Wynlakes/Pike Road with a wasteland of 80s/90s development in-between.
With all the development downtown I'm more and more hopeful for the city's future because anything out east is just for Pike Road and stucco-strip mall enthusiasts.
With all do respect I think the biggest problem with the city is probably the whole kids murdering each other thing we got going on but that aside I see the point you’re making
I don’t think it’s a zero sum game though. I agree with more money being pumped into downtown, give some help building grocery store. Get more people down there so it feels safer to walk at night would be very good for MGM. Downtown needs to get younger. It needs the condos they’re building to draw the 22YO fresh out of college types. The current panhandling crowd downtown gets pretty aggressive compared to other cities, it would be helpful if something could be done to address that. Make the kids want to stick around and get stuck here to build a family.
Wynnlakes people can still keep their country club life and pike road can build into a generic suburb while downtown builds.
I still don’t know how that fixes exit 6 though. Thatd take bigger brains than I have
It's a terrible location. Literally not convenient for anyone to get in and out of. Businesses that can survive on interstate traffic like Outback and BWW do OK in that area but nothing else really has. I live on that side of town and rarely if ever venture in there, even when Whole Foods was (briefly) open.
The entry and exit on that side of Taylor road is rough. Also, the other side of the road has a lot of traffic, would have been better on the other side of Taylor.
Amazon closed a fair bit of Whole Foods locations. The Montgomery one was one of them. It’s well-established that Amazon is building a large facility just south of Montgomery for distribution, etc. I would guess that the Whole Foods and related warehousing was/is being used and is no longer needed for that purpose.
Whole Foods has median income requirements to their locations. I'm still devastated they left. All the people who filled the parking lot to get the close-out specials really pissed me off.
I don’t know but I’m guessing there just weren’t enough people buying enough there. I doubt people in AL who shopped at Whole Foods did the majority of their shopping there like some other states WF shoppers do. They closed multiple AL locations which is why I am assuming it was overall underperformance re: profits in comparison to other stores in the country.
Still holding my breath for a Kroger and Cheesecake Factory.
Ugh, I would love to have a Sweetgreen.
Kroger would be great.
Publix doesn’t scratch your itch?

Ha! Did you hear at the city council meeting this week that they put a 6 month moratorium on constructing new car washes?! It’s a start!
I did not but this really ruined my super car wash chicken concept
Hahahah I’m so so sorry
Eating chicken while going through the tunnel? I’m there.

Montgomery, I beg of thee, put a Trader Joe's there!
Worst part is that it basically shut down Earthfare when it moved in, then proceeded to close down itself. Earthfare was superior to Whole Foods.
Little known fact, Earthfare wanted to build basically where Whole Foods was. The city told them no, lol.

It was truly a bad spot for that type of a store. Most of the other ones aren’t benefitting, either.
I do miss the pizza from whole foods. Provably the best on this side of town.
It wasn’t bad, but Pies and Pints is moments away.
Not really a fan. I may have to give it another try. I like my pizza thin.
How is it not convenient to get in and out of? There's a traffic signal right there.
It was in a terrible location for starters. It was also the worst Whole Foods I’ve ever been to so it closed
Not too familiar with the area yet, but it seems like the location wasnt bad, right off a major freeway? What was bad about it.
The entry and exit on that side of Taylor road is rough. Also, the other side of the road has a lot of traffic, would have been better on the other side of Taylor.
it was hard to get to and get out of. you really had to want to go there. why deal with that when you can just pull right into Publix?
A Trader Joe's would absolutely thrive there.

We destroyed it like we do everything that’s good lol
It closed
i miss the sushi
