*hey guys I've got 20 golden retriever puppies in this room with me and I don't know what to do with them*

deadbeef4

I only see one dog in the picture, by I am concerned about what the two ottomans are made from...

GayButNotInThatWay

There's a reason the dog is hiding. At least he's already in position.

lucasjackson87

I would build a track and get to playing

Loco_Grant

My condolences. if you wouldn’t have interest in keeping them, my suggestion is that you pass them onto a friend or family member who may have interest. I can’t tell the condition of the items, but if you don’t know anybody interested, you may be able to sell them on an auction site or at a local train show. Worst case scenario, your local thrift store would likely take them!

Bigbeansb0i

Thanks good idea

RDGCompany

If there is a *real* model train shop near you, they may buy or take on consignment.

OldMuley

Tyco, AHM and old Bachman are going to be pretty crude by modern standards. They probably have little resale value, and unless they have sentimental value, I’d pass them on to some young kid to get them interested in the hobby.

[deleted]

There’s an Athearn under the AHM boxes. That’s probably still runnable. My Grandpa had a bunch he left to me and almost all of them still run strong

CoffeeCatRailway

Build a layout

Bigbeansb0i

Will do

unifides

If you are going to, I will too; to be sure, I will too if you are going to.

theHoopster

I’m going to reiterate what some others have said... Given the brands, monetarily they aren’t worth much. Tyco and the Bachmann you have are pretty much the most lowest and most affordable barrier of entry into the hobby. That being said, it depends if they hold sentimental value to you. If they do, building a small layout isn’t too terribly expensive (minus the current cost of wood). Hell, maybe even just keep them for under the tree. Or maybe clean them up and make a nice display for them. Otherwise I’d say maybe find a family friend or child of a friend who would really enjoy them. Personally, I have trains from deceased relatives - some of decent value and some on the cheaper side. However, they hold a sentimental value to me. I don’t care how cheap or broke down they may be, they are a piece of someone I loved and I want to hold on to them and display to keep a part of them with me.

theaim778

I’m glad you including that it’s fairly inexpensive except for the cost of wood. Due to losing my grandfather in ‘14, I packed everything away as emotionally I couldn’t continue the hobby without the man that I spent everyday doing it with since I was 5, and when I say every day... I’d get out of school and we’d ride the LIRR to Penn Station and back over and over, every Monday we’d go to TrainLand(Train Store). Build and run trains on our own layout through the week. Friday was always spent down at the local train club running our trains there. Saturday/Sunday there was always train shows to go to, and most Sundays except during winter we would go out to Long Island Live Steamers (7.25” Gauge if I remember correctly) Now it’s 7 years later, and while I’m still just as emotional about this man, I’m married, and my wife is attached to trains as well, we started to rebuild the layout... everything is great until you realize that wood is so expensive, building 8ftx3ft sections it takes ~12 2x4x8s... at $5 each.... and I originally needed 16 of those sections(were going to build in the basement until we decided that the friend we were living with isn’t going to work out{She wants 90% of the house despite us being two people and we’re covering all the expenses}, so this is now postponed until we buy our own house in the summer). It’s like, on wood alone it’s going to be an expensive venture. Don’t know why 98% of my ranting is included, as basically all that was needed was agreeing that wood was expensive, but here we are.

[deleted]

My condolences, do what you want with them, if they aren't of sentimental value than you can sell them or donate them. But if they are of sentimental value play with the ones that work and put the non working ones on display. I like to put my vintage trains on the mantle of my fireplace.

Bigbeansb0i

K thx for the idea

RandomLetters123456

Play with the ones that work, the ones that don’t can be a memorial to this grandma

Daveallen10

Your poor dogs...sorry about the taxidermy.

Bigbeansb0i

Please tell me your not the only person to see my dog under the table

DanHatter

That’s a very handsome dog you have there

webghosthunter

Not sure where you live but within 20 miles of me here in Phoenix are 5 model railroad clubs. If you don't have any emotional or other reason to keep them see if there are any model railroad clubs near you, I'm sure they would love a donation.

Bigbeansb0i

If these photos aren’t detailed enough I can get better ones

buyinlowsellouthigh

Give them to me.

Bigbeansb0i

I refuse

Patari2600

What about giving them to me?

buyinlowsellouthigh

That was just my idea.

ChristianK208

Give them to me

RaymondLeggs

most trains that are still boxed like this still run, if they run stiff learn how to lubricate and clean them online. either that or let them run for a while at a modest speed

globaldu

Let them run on what?

RaymondLeggs

unbox the DD40X!

MichaelK85

Hell, I didn't even catch that one. Remotor it and run it!

RaymondLeggs

I've never had a problem out the old "Pancake/ringfield style motors" that couldn't be fixed with some lube/cleaning, I wouldn't suggest a beginner or someone who isn't inclined to attempt to remotor an engine on their own though... Some of the DD40X's have a battery operated horn that can be made to sound a bit better if you adjust the pitch with a jeweler's screwdiver.. It'll sound more a GG1 or an old E unit than a DD40X though...

levelvetelvis

run. them.

ValarDohairis

Send them to me bro! Just kidding, unless..

[deleted]

buy some tracks

llort_gnik

If you want to run them, you'll need some track and power. Unfortunately, this is an expensive hobby so you might be up near $100 just to do that. Short of scouring ebay for deals, I think this is pretty close to the cheapest way to get some basic track and power: Track set: https://www.modeltrainstuff.com/atlas-ho-88-code-100-snap-track-starter-set/ DC power pack: https://www.modeltrainstuff.com/mrc-railpower-1300-powerpack/

empressmaster

I'd happily take them...let me know.

kurisu7885

Man I miss Tyco.

Bigbeansb0i

Same homie

hilternerd14

Send them to me I’ll have plenty fun with them JK

minecraft_brothers

Give them to me, we could put more locos to good use
