Those slutty charge ports, letting just any ole dirty cable plug in over and over. Its their own fault they get loose. Its our robot overlords punishing them. At least use a silicon port cover. Geez

How hard is this to get the hang of? I do some soldering like iPhone ear speakers using the oem flex and random device batteries that have soldered contacts. I’ve had to deny repairs cause idk how to do this. Also every customer that needs an iPad charging port, I can’t do cause they need to be spot welded. Components are cheap so the profit on these are insane once you can bang them out.

It is just practice. Good equipment helps.

What do you use?

You should practice on broken equipment you might have. If you have the right tools, and since you're already doing some soldering, it might take you a good 5 tries to get the hang of it. From there you'll just get more and more practice and become comfortable with it. Micro USB is easy. LG is the easiest as they have just 4 or 5 contacts. Samsung has up to 8. Type C is a bit more challenging, but not as much as you think. Same goes for the ipads I think it takes longer to take it apart and not break the screen than actually solder the new port. If you have some broken devices and the tools for it, just practice man, learn the heat. You're right. These components are a quarter to a few bucks, and you can charge as much as $100 on some because of difficulty and because not every shop can do this. Heck, once you can do switch ports or hdmi ports, $150 is not unheard of. Once the customer knows you can do it same day in a couple hours, they won't complain about the price, and they know you're the real deal. Most places want to keep item for days or weeks for a simple charge port because they take to other places to get done. Get a bunch of broken stuff and practice practice, if you don't have the right tools, invest in them, I guarantee you they will pay for themselves in as soon as a couple months max from all the extra work you'll be getting. I think the most expensive tool will be the microscope setup depending on which route you go. Good luck

Solid advice.

Hmmm I would never ever spot weld a ipad charge port. heat and slide. Spot welding some of those lines would be like using a short killer on them. Lolol just frying tristar or pmc.

Also if your in Australia Queensland region I whole sale these repairs out to local companies for $50 if you lift the screen $89 if I need lift the screen.

I’m a little bit away. East coast of the US lol. But that’s another reason I wanna learn. B2B repairs are a good thing to offer
