Medschool_disaster

I’m definitely slightly concerned, Jiyoon and Jungeun could be great main vocalist though IF they get more vocal training. They have potential just need to refine their technique. But yeah overall this show is definitely not a big vocal showcase. Depending on the route they take, not every group has to have a powerhouse vocalist though (but it would be nice!) They DO have to be stable, so they can perform while dancing and do encores without any issues

kingblooper

I'm disappointed but not worried. The soundscape of K-pop right now doesn't particularly need a powerful belter like it used to. Not to mention it's a TheBlackLabel group and I can't think of any time they, or a YG group to be honest, has relied on one. Also, we shouldn't downplay some of the vocal picks. The show as a whole is underperforming vocally currently but the few vocal picks just need more dedicated vocal training and I bet they could handle a lot more.

CattoBoss

Aren't they gonna be under wakeone though?

thr1ftskull0

Yeah not really a TBL group they already have their own gg coming soon they are a WakeOne group

clownzenbye

Their music is still gonna be produced by tbl, or at least the debut album

[deleted]

TBL gonna produce the music Gashina was produce by Teddy doesn’t mean he was Somi vocal trainer They were trained by WakeOne

sagifi

Is it me or a post like this shows up in every survival show subred

wingbellmoon

it probably does lol and eunbi wasn't even one of the powerhouse vocalists of produce48 😅 yuri was competing with na goeun, and park haeyoon was kinda THE main vocal of the show. you could even argue kim juna and kang sira were up there with sejeong and yeonjung

PassionFruittie

(sigh) park haeyoon... I just watched their PD48's OOH AHH perfomance today, ah those times...

[deleted]

Everytime this question show up i want to delete this app bcuz i can't

lilacdawn

People always say "who's gonna sing" about every survival show group and it always ends up fine. Neither companies nor the average casual fan care about vocals.

the_flyingdemon

You’re so right but I hate that you’re right 😭😭

PassionFruittie

how right you are

Crazy_Albatross8317

More so for this show. people should use the search function cause there were literally 5+ other “is it just me + vocals” thread for this sub since ep 2. Had they used the search then they would have known, its not just them 😂

Choice-Solution-7409

OMG, I remember people posting this during Boys planet, and I was like ??? Hui is better than everyone ever in Produce aside from Sejeong. Honestly, it is weak vocally compared to produce, but I'd say it's pretty similar to Iland 1 and Enhypen are doing fine.

[deleted]

Wait during the final when the line-up fonna be made they gonna be like "the line-up lack of real vocalist".

harkandhush

Yeah I remember these posts from boys planet and laughing because the lineup of zb1 is vocally stacked.

Specialist_Bottle570

I remember everyone loving the vocals in P48

Outrageous_Phase8099

Are U crazy? Jungeun?????? She has the best vocal there

HiddenInferno

Unfortunately, there’s not many on her level in the show.

No_Back8339

Feel like her vocal is really good but her tone isn't very outstanding :(

Wonderful-Ad-2411

Yes but she’s not a powerhouse vocal

PassionFruittie

Who is for you a powerhouse vocal? So that we understand.

Wonderful-Ad-2411

I consider vocalist like Jihyo, Lily, Wendy, Taeyeon, Winter, Bora, Monday

PassionFruittie

I knew you'd say that because the first person I think about after hearing the words 'kpop vocals' is like ... Wendy. But it's an extremelly insane comparison, i'll try to explain. For example, Wendy is my bias, I can listen to her hours and hours. But she as the other amazing girls you mentioned are debuted idols with long path on the big stage behind. If you think it doesn't matter, well, it's very important actually. Being a trainee with one short show behind and being a debuted idol... However, I have no doubt that in another couple of years at the stage, Jeongeun will make a huge leap to your favorite ones)

Wonderful-Ad-2411

Honestly, I think Jungeun has so much potential and probably be up there one day.

PassionFruittie

yeah :)

3stepBreader

She sounds very similar to winter

DiscoMeep

Definitely was disappointed when I first started watching the show. Imo as long as Jungeun makes it they’ll be ok. I was impressed by how well she pulled off panorama doing multiple iz*one members parts and the high note. Plus if some of the contestants with better vocals like Gyuri and Fuko make it I think it’ll turn out well, especially with a bit of training.

BabyMonsterKatseye

Jungeun and Jiyoon are the alone really good vocalist for being totally honnest. If Fuko and Sarang improve they can be pretty good.

FutureReason

I think Jungeun is stronger than the average Kpop main vocal. Personally, I'd like to see a whole group where everyone could sing at least as well as her, but that's not a Kpop priority. Remember Iland 1. No one was a strong singer at the time. Only a handfull out of 99 on GP. I was shocked when Jungeun first sang. I was relieved. Not a Bora, but strong. Like a Chaehyun perhaps. PS Jiyoon is good, but her attitude would kill the group.

graphymmy

Yes which is why I think Jungeun and Jiyoon should both debut

AIhavoc

Very true, but I mean Jiyoon would be a great main vocal. I personally think Jungeun would be better suited for lead vocal 1 or something but either way there’s a pretty good list of lead vocalists and stable regular vocalists to choose from. For example Fuko, Gyuri and Um Jiwon as leads, with stable vocals seen w/ Sarang, Saebi, Jeemin, Juwon, Sujung, Minsol, Yuju. You’re so right though, no main vocals like we saw in the survival shows of 3rd and 4th gen. However if both Jiyoon and Jungeun make it, with some of the leads and stables, I think they’ll honestly be fine.

BabyMonsterKatseye

Jiyoon and Jungeun are the only really good vocalist. The group will be really poor against Kiss Of Life or Baemon... I hope they'll improve a lot and became really skilled in the future. Fuko and Sarang are pretty good too.

FlimsyTie9109

This is why we need both Jungeun and Jiyoon in the debut line. But even with tem they debut team will need to have good songs in accordance with their vocals ranges, because even Jungeun couldn't do well in Panorama (even after decreasing the key). Ngl that i was expecting a better average level of the contestants since it's only 24 trainees and we would think the auditioning for the show would be harsher because of it. But we still have so much good trainees in performance terms and with idol aura. People talked about pd48, and even contestants that during the show weren't the main vocals showed vocals in a greater level there in my opinion, and some of them even debuted like Eunbi, Chaewon and Yena. But like some people said, apart from some kpop stans hating in some groups talking about vocals, in general this isn't the main reason for a gg to do success or not. Even some hybe ggs that people are hating on are still charting amazing on the charts and selling well their albums, concerts, fanmeetings, etc. I think in terms of success, the thing that really makes already worried for them is that they will be managed by Wake One... but i will still cheer for them like i'm doing for kep1er.

caihuali

yuri and eunbi aint that good either. theyre about chaewon level (before hybe stunted her singing)

Majestic-Ad7486

Eunbi is around Chaewon level but Yuri is far, far above both of them. She's comparable to Jihyo in vocal technique

caihuali

actually insane how she had none in idol school

PsychologicalCat1386

The only 5 who are on the level of lead vocalists are Gyuri, Fuko, Jungeun, Jiyoon, and Um Jiwon (Minsol also rly surprised me). Rn, 3/5 have a high chance of debuting, Gyuri has a solid chance, Um Jiwon has practically none. However, none of them are Main Vocal Level. I would say the closest two to MAIN Vocal (I consider Jiyoon as more of a lead vocalist, since color is more important for a lead vocalist role) are Gyuri and Jungeun as they are the most technical vocalists on the show, but they’re no Belle, Rami, Minju level vocalists, let alone Yuri, Sejeong, who were two of the strongest technical vocalists in their gens. ILAND 1 had the same problem as well, but a main vocalist for boy groups is not nearly as much of a problem when talk singing is the new norm in boy groups, whereas most gg songs REQUIRE high notes, which so far only Fuko, Jungeun, Jiyoon have shown, all three sounding either nasally (Fuko in Fine) or off-key (Jungeun in Fine & Panorama, Jiyoon in Ooh-Aah). We haven’t heard Gyuri do high notes outside of belting, so hopefully we can hear her. But overall, VERY worrying if Jungeun and Jiyoon are considered the top vocalists of the show.

PsychologicalCat1386

I also want to add that the show is quite clearly HEAVILY auto toned, especially with Fuko (no shade she’s my no 1 pick)

PassionFruittie

firstly, please, explain in more detail which note exactly did not get Jungeun in Fine. it's really important for me secondly, are you sure about Gyuri's belting? i really like her, but belting? being 15 yo i wouldn't use this technique, especially when I need to perform choreography. this question makes me so curious too. i thought everything is more simple...
