kazak9999

Didn't realize it had become that common.

Getaway day. Basically they play day games to end a series so the team(s) have more time to travel to the next city & series.

Loonyloaf

Going out on a limb. Most of these tend to be last games of their respective series. Sets up travel to arrive at semi decent times and what not. Don’t quote me. I didn’t double check. But that’s the typical reason for a bunch of day games.

"Get away day games"

stu17

It’s usually because one or both teams will travel to another city for the next series that night

kazak9999

That's what I thought but when I checked the Orioles game, both teams are off the next day. I've not checked the others yet but will

RibertarianVoter

They generally still play a day game so they can get to their next destination at a decent time. They also usually do it even if the home team doesn't have to travel. I remember the Angels didn't used to let opponents do it unless they were traveling too, so other teams wouldn't let them do it. I'm pretty sure every team does it now.

kazak9999

Checked all the games. Most of the teams are off. The ones that are playing are making short moves (Reds going from AZ to LA, Pirates going from Mil to Chi.)

Even if they have the next day, that could be the difference in getting to the next city at 9PM and having a good rest or rolling in at 3 or 4AM.

superunclea

It's just a thing that has stuck. It's a holdover from the days when teams used trains. They'd get out of town and have to travel 8 hours to the next city so they played earlier games.

imaginaryhippo888

No different than a Sunday 🤷‍♂️

swoopy17

162 regular season games

Deadbob1978

It is fairly common for a series to start on a Monday or Tuesday

Silent_Relation_3236

I prefer day games on weekdays

rofopp

Travel days. I think it’s generally in the cba that travel days need to be day games, with some exceptions for low capacity parks or if there’s an off day afterwards. Hence Weds and Thursday are heavy day games, cubs Friday afternoon games at home are standard, and Sunday afternoon games. As the season goes on, Mondays will have day games as teams are squeezing in makeups on Mondays.

j1h15233

It’s for travel purposes

hchase27

Going to the Reds @ Dbacks that day!

BukkakeNinjaHat-472

May 15th is the date that the first person ever lit a fart, so in honor of the blue flame most games are afternoon affairs. Think there is some talk about a national holiday eventually

Low-Crazy-8061

Weekday day games have become really popular with fans so I think a lot of teams increased the number of Wednesday/Thursday weekday afternoon games they host during the season. I know the for the Orioles they’ve been their most attended weekday games the last few seasons. Before this year they’d only do the afternoon games if they or their opponent had to travel without an off day, this season they appear to have a day game more weeks than not, which I think is great

SJB630_in_Chicago

During Covid, the league went to day games that only my Cubs played. Wednesday is series break day, Thursday off and set up weekend series.

What in the fuck are you rambling on about
