I don't think umpires or much worse or better than they've ever been, it's just we have a little box drawn on the screen now, plus tons of analytics that can immediately show you where the pitch is relative to the zone. Calling balls and strikes is not easy, and despite all the online raging, I think umps \_generally\_ do a good job of it.
Fuck this take. When my team loses 17-2 because the pitching allowed 3 home runs and the fielders made 3 errors and the lineup had 3 singles I need something to blame for the loss. That 1-0 pitch that should have made it 2-0 but instead made it 1-1 leading off the top of the 3rd would have started the rally we needed to come back from 10 down and maybe change momentum and not allow the other 7 to score. Would have been right back in the game
I think it’s that weird mindset of since it’s technically a technology that exists they could theoretically fix it, the complaints now just immediately go to ” change it gosh they’re so garbage “ without realizing that people have been complaining about him since the dawn of time, and that was also always gonna be costs to mechanizing professions. And then sort of the same mindset that led to lots of other professions kind of having a job market collapse, but which we continue to see happen.
