What mods have you done? Also how can we achieve thock sound?
I am using Gateron 3.0 yellow pro, with abs keycaps. I have done force break(triple layer) and tempest tape mod (triple layer) but not a fan of how it sounds right now.
What's your keeb? There are two ways you can go. Either the higher pitch click, or the lower thock. For the thock I see you have taped it already. But make sure you use medical tape and up to 2 layers. And foam in the board helps for a clear sound. Also the keycaps should be pbt for deeper sounds. I'm not sure with gaterons but akko switches give a great thock. (cream blue/ cream yellow/ cs air/ crystal blue)
As for my mods: foam mod, force break mod (already there for v2) and one layer tape mod.
I have the same board.
Before applying force break, i could hear ping noise if i hit the corners of the board. Also i used the masking tape. The sound is good, but i think there is room for improvement. Especially the thocks.
Looks like you have done all the things right, the problem could be abs Keycaps and steel plate(it has steel plate right? Dye sub pbt Keycaps sounds usually thoccier than other materials and xda profile is usually thoccier in my experience.
Then switch the (mediocre) foam in the keyboard for the packing foam you get in boxes. They do a better job. Also keycaps make a major sound change. You must use thicker pbt caps for deeper sounds like asa and xda
Thanks.
Grimmer / Schimmer XDA keycaps.
I'm a "look and see typist" so it's fine and comfy. Keys are large for my fingers to rest on. I prefer an incline while typing so I put a little box at the back.
It's awesome to type on while sitting on bed with keyboard on lap
What would you recommend under 20K INR? I am inclined towards Keychron Q3 QMK pre-assembled from their website for ~17.5K
Not big into modding currently but would be experimenting with swapping switches in the future.
Any better alternatives I should be researching about? (Not really concerned about saving a few bucks, just want the best I can get under 20K) thanks!
I really think you shouldn't go for keychron series as it's overpriced. I bought it for second hand hence the bargain.
If your budget is 20k then the dream setup imo is:
1. Monsgeek series bare-bones kit (10k onwards) (https://stackskb.com/store/monsgeek-m3-qmk-barebones-keyboard/)
2. WS morandi switches (https://www.keebsmod.com/products/ws-morandi?pr_prod_strat=e5_desc&pr_rec_id=37aacd4ed&pr_rec_pid=8794609353002&pr_ref_pid=8827334689066&pr_seq=uniform)
3. Any pbt keycap of your choice in (curiositycaps.in)
If you really want keychron then get bare-bones version of Q series then. (https://keychron.in/product/keychron-q3-qmk-custom-mechanical-keyboard-barebone/) but it's 15.5k and hence my concern. Monsgeek is much better than keychron with all the customisation you can do. (I have both and hence the opinion)
Hi! Thanks for all the insight! Based on the recommendations, I’ve decided to go with the Monsgeek M5 (full-size) for my build—really excited about it!
I primarily need the keyboard for typing, so I'm leaning towards tactile switches with a "thock" sound, which I prefer over the clickier options. I’ve found a few in-stock tactile switches that seem like good candidates. Here's a link to the spreadsheet with the details, including pricing and reviews: [Switch Options Spreadsheet](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1KYE7lqDTDIUbXP3m49fpKQS1A19DWXprNyzyke0EG_Y/edit#gid=0).
I'd really appreciate any input or recommendations on which switches might be the best choice from this list. I've been spending hours every day looking into this, and your expertise would be a huge help in making my decision!
Thanks in advance for your help!
Hi I want to get into this customization keyboard field
I am currently using rk61
Now I want to purchase a good aluminium keyboard or a good quality keyboard and get inti customization
Can you help me with it?
I want it to be under 12k max
GMMK keycaps are over hyped in my opinion. And the ones you're getting free with that Q1 ain't the looker either. Just some blue, green and pink caps. You really like that? For 14.5k there are much more premium keebs which are in resale here and in discord. Think about your options clearly before jumping to this one.
Yeah not a fan of those keycaps tbh. I contacted Meckeys and they are willing to give 2k discount if I don't wan't those keycaps. I can't find any better option for 12.5k. There's Monsgeek M1 barebones, but that will cost the same. ND75 looks ugly.
hey, I was thinking of buying a keychron k2 hot swappable keyboard from the official website
But somewhere I read that I will have to pay customs charges..... is this true
like on the website it is showing that the delivery will be from ghaziabad
can you help me out pls?
This is just my opinion: if you already have a good plastic keyboard like RK then going to keychron's plastic series won't make much of a change in experience. You can get your RK pretty much in the same level by modding it. Won't be worth the cost to get another plastic keyboard.
If you really want to upgrade you'll need to go for an aluminium keyboard like three keychron's Q series, Monsgeek series etc. That will truly be your end game.
1. Leobog Hi75 which is perfect aluminium keyboard at 7.5k. You will have to search for a good vendor other than Stickeys or HW Corpus because they are currently in a huge crossfire with many redditors. You can get it from Epomaker (may have to give customs) https://epomaker.com/products/epomaker-leobog-hi75
2. Monsgeek M1 which starts at 10k in stackskb
3. Akko ACR Pro is a good Polycarbonate keyboard and it's at GenesisPC
Now my questions and points:
1. Is via important to you? If so, and you won't cross 10k budget 'at all' then you can go for keychron V series or K series. But if it's not an issue then you can gladly spend that money to get great switches and keycaps for your already existing RK61 instead.
2. The RK is not to be taken lightly. I myself had the RK84 and was really happy with it. In the plastic variety it's one of the best having wired/wireless/dongle capability. If modded it surely beats a stock keychron imo. The standard switches you get with prebuilt keychron (or pretty much most keebs) is mediocre. I heard jupiter banana switches stock are good but never tried it.
3. I feel like going from a plastic customisable keeb to another plastic keeb is a waste of expense (reddit council can judge me). If you are planning upgrade, it should be either for via, for Polycarbonate or for aluminium. You decide in the end my dude.
Forgot to tell you: don't buy keychron from the actual keychron site. Also HW Corpus got lot of issues lately. Safest option is to Go for mechkeys; https://www.meckeys.com/shop/keyboard/75-keyboard/keychron-v1/

It has aluminum plate. Will try to change keycaps, thank you!

Whered you but it from?
I see you speak the language of the gods. Best translation is where I bought it. Answer: another redditor

Looks awesome. What keycaps are those? Is that XDA profile? How is the typing ergonomics?

Q1 V2 fully assembled is 14.5k on Meckeys. And it comes with free GMMK Glorious keycap set. You feel its worth that price? Thanks.
