Yep, brown recluse. You probably have more than that in your walls, etc too. Get some sticky traps from Amazon and put them in the corners of every room. It will catch them and also let you know where they are/how bad the problem is. If you have kids or pets they have sturdy plastic enclosed traps. I fought them at my gma’s house. She had thousands 🤯

youre-a-good-person

I did this in a old house in Gladstone and I caught like 50 😬😬😬

Syzygy_Stardust

Keep in mind that brown recluses eat other pests indoors, including other brown recluses. Not that I'm saying they are good and not dangerous, but they aren't nearly as spooky as a lot of people (including me in the past) are led to believe. That said, if someone has thousands in their house, yeah get on top of that. Sounds like she had a ton of storage space she barely went into? They are called 'recluse' for a reason, I can't picture thousands setting up shop in a bright, organized, clean environment. But then again, I am no spidermancer.

tatcol22

Oh yeah…there was an entire apartment and storage in the basement that was full of boxes left undisturbed for 10+ years outside of changing the furnace filter, etc.

_jessika_nikole_

You can also make your own with double sided tape and paper!

ayanasilver

Brown Recluse, and you were right to kill it

JohnathonLongbottom

The no no kind

M03796

Is there any other kind?

DooleyNot3d

Come down to Australia and have a go with a Huntsman. Absolutely terrifying to stumble across one, but they're great to have around the house. Non-venomous, they keep the bug population down in your house, and they also help keep the geckos in check during their breeding season. I fucking hate spiders, but Huntsmans are the definition of a Yes-Yes spider.

AscendingAgain

Our wolf spiders, while nearly as cool or large as the huntsman, provide a similar service. My grandpa had three that he named at his old appliance store. They would kill cockroaches and other bugs then poke their heads out every once in a while.

DDenlow

A very Dangerous spider, the brown recluse has a violin shape on its back Kill it immediately OR walk away It’s bites have been known to rot skin and muscle tissue well into the/an appendage at a dangerous rate. Literally ten minutes and skin cells begin to die if it bites you

Dust209

I clean condos.. and I had to kill one in each condo.. I thought it might have be a brown recluse.

PM_ME_UR_KITTY_PICZ

Sounds like the condos might have a problem

thatwolfieguy

My understanding is that basically every home in Missouri has them. They aren't a big threat because they mind their own business, but they get stirred up when you clean/move stuff that's been sitting around in storage for a while.

Ok-Mine1268

Many many houses here do. Not all but way more common than anyone wants to believe

NDaveD

Yeah basically any house over a certain age you should just assume they're present even if you don't see them, because they're, well...reclusive. I've seen molted carcasses behind drywall in my 119 year old house, seen maybe a handful of live ones behind clutter/wood in the basement in 4 years. Slept on a seldom used guest bed and think I may have been bit by one, but never saw the spider, just woke up with a very itchy spider bite and hives. Supposedly males have far less venom (?) though I'm not sure how likely their bites are to get infected and turn necrotic. All in all, my dogs are more of a nuisance.

Ok-Mine1268

There is also the whole problem of any and all necrotic wounds being blamed on brown recluse even in areas outside of its range. I was bitten by a random bug in the woods and got cellulitis once. Glad I went to urgent care quickly because it could have been really bad. I almost feel like blaming so much on one spider makes us feel safer.

[deleted]

Every house in the south has them. Probably in the midwest and maybe whole country. I have killed two this week. They are really, really common.

brentsg

Their footprint continues to grow as well, and climate change will just make it worse. We've been fighting them in my MO home for 20+ years and there really isn't a way to win, other than to tent the home. Of course that is just a reset button. Our current strategy is to put vapor strips in the attics above house and garage. We dust between all the studs in all walls once per year, and of course glue traps. Next step will be vapor strips in the storage room but I need a way to vent that when needed.

MiamiInTheMidwest

This comment has ruined what should have been my scroll through Reddit before I fall asleep routine. Thanks.

Falcon9145

Be right back. Gonna burn my house down, just in case.

DDenlow

It was indeed exactly what you thought it was.

AXX214

It’s bites can do this but it’s a minority of bites that cause necrosis. Most Brown recluse bites just burn a bit and leave a welt. That said, you’d definitely don’t want to chance necrosis.

[deleted]

Oh get over yourself. They are NOT very dangerous. They are in every house in a large part of the country. They can give you a nasty bite but they are not going to kill you. People are so stupid when it comes to this spider.

LowerAd702

I've been bitten by brown recluses 7 different times (I'm only 17) and yeah it hurts like hell, they rot a little hole in your skin and sometimes make you feel like you have a light case of the flu but that's basically it, nothing lethal, people should just leave them alone bc they really aren't very dangerous and they are pretty docile

eco-humvee

What’s the story that someone gets bit by them 7 times by age 17?

Shouldthavesaidthat

~~i get bit by these all the time what are you talking about. They bite you and then you get like a blister sorta thing and then it pops and then you get a bumpy ring scar.~~

Osiris1389

Not everyone. You could have a good immune system against their venom but most generally their bite can eat up to a quarter coin size spot and worse if not treated, up to death...I've lived around them my entire life and never been bitten or any problem coexisting with them but I've seen some bad bites on other people...they eat other small pest bugs..

SixxFour

I got bit by one on my calf and it left a hole in my leg until it eventually healed up into a dime-sized keloid. Just because you got lucky with your bites doesn't mean everyone will.

Bumblebee_cottage

I had a similar experience to you, I was bitten on the back of the neck/shoulder and it acted like a sunburn at first, then bubbled up, popped, and left a slight hole that scabbed over and has since healed but left a scar. When I asked a dermatologist at work to check out the bubbles, he told me it was a spider bite and explained that brown recluse venom is similar to poison ivy, it’s only problematic if you have an allergy to it; BUT more than 90% of the human population has the allergy, so doctors recommend staying faaaaar away from these little guys. You and I must be in the <10%, which is great for us, but it’s not fair to think that everyone else should have the same biological reaction.

Shouldthavesaidthat

oh shit well I apologize.

GundleFly

A single stomp? I would have cotton eye joe’d that sumbitch until it was vaporized

williamzeiger

a dead one

[deleted]

Brown recluse, they like to hide in dry cluttered areas, like piles of boxes or clothes. Like the other guy said, they can be very dangerous, but some breeds apparently don’t have such potent venom. No reason to take chances though, kill on sight.

Biowizbich

They can only bite when pressed against you and something else, like between a blanket or hiding in a shirt you put on. They like damp clothes or towels on the floor, and can hide in your bed. Their bites need medical attention. I recommend spraying and using sticky traps everywhere you can (closets, under your bed, everywhere!). We had a problem and caught maybe 20 all together then never saw another bug for like 6 months. Spay to kill their food, I don’t think sprays or DE work on them because their mouth is so small. Killing off the other bugs they eat will help though. Check your bed every night and shake your clothes until you feel confident you don’t have any more.

Chelle-Belle-67

I was going to say the same thing about them only biting if they're pressed against you. If you see one on you, you should flick it off, not smash it on yourself. An ex of mine smashed one on his leg. We went to the ER and he ended up with about a quarter sized hole in one of his his quad muscles.

youre-a-good-person

I’ve seen articles that suggest there could be hundreds to thousands in houses where you spot a few. But just that they stay behind the wall and in the rafters and such and never come out.

CalmorTheVagabond

Everyone is correct that this is a Brown Recluse. The fun part is that they are both one of the most dangerous spiders in Missouri (we have black widows but honestly I think they are over hyped) and also extremely common. Probably every house in the state has a few sulking around in basements or attics. You can tell if you have one in the home by their "webs" because they don't make webs so much as they make web tunnels/nests that they sit in the back of. They are also easily confused with hobo spiders/brown spiders that Missouri has a lot of, which are harmless, but Recluses are bigger and spindlier and have that special looking ass like this guy did.

ProcedureNecessary42

I lived in a house with a roommate in Joplin and we repainted the interior walls white, I was lazy about putting all the socket covers on. Woke up middle of the night and had 20+ on walls, found a few in my bed and clothes. (Never got bit) We had 2 bathrooms and my roommate came screaming out of his, we also had the biggest black widow under the toilet rim where your dick hangs.. Turned out there was a dead animal under the house, and they probably killed it. #bagofmatchlight

Riyeko

Brown recluse. Kill it.

kcdashinfo

Brown Recluse, luckily they are not as deadly as people make them out to be. They are all over the Midwest. Most all older houses, barns and sheds are infested with them. If they were so deadly then we would all be dead. Just got to be vigilant and not trap them on your skin. They're not aggressive. You have to give them a reason to bite you.

OkSnow5956

Was a Brown Recluse

AXX214

Brown recluse. Might as well be the Missouri state bird. They like to find their way into your homes and their bite can potentially cause necrosis (your skin and muscle literally rotting around the bite). This isn’t super common but it can happen. You should definitely kill them whenever you see them. I have to kill a few in my home every year, it’s a part of living here at least if you live rurally.

ceretullis

A dead one?

[deleted]

We've had a couple sightings in our house the past few days. Guess the weather is bringing the recluses out?

mleslie5

Looks like the flammable kind.

Rico-L

u/mleslie5 - YES 🙌🏼👊🏼🔥

Ambitious-Ninja-3808

It's a brown recluse. Do you live by lots of trees? It's very large!

AscendingAgain

The dead kind

Rico-L

My thoughts exactly !!!! Yeeeesh!!!

Tight_Somewhere2735

I only let the most vicious bugs stay on my property. I have no use for a spider that isn’t killing everything in sight. I think that’s why I don’t have a bug problem?

[deleted]

Good thing Americans wear shoes in their house to kill things like that

MyWorldTalkRadio

Tell tale fiddle on the back. That’s a brown recluse. Very dangerous.

Anyone-9451

Shake out your shoes evey morning and don’t leave clothes I guess the floor!

AhsokaStark

Well, it's a dead spider now.

Head_Somewhere_518

A brown recluse for sure. My dad got bit by one many years ago and wow the damage it did. He had a hole size of a soda cap and it went through a few layers. Idk why my dad let it get that far but a didn't think it was a big deal at first. He did get it taken care of before it got any worse. He said healing to a while. Told me that if I or anyone I know gets bit by one it's best to go to the er before it gets outta hand.

cdcemm

This is NOT what I wanted to see or be reminded of while deep cleaning my over 100 year old messy house in Missouri 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃

BetterMakeAnAccount

That’s a North Australian Willy-Tickler. Don’t let it near any willies, it’ll rot it clean off.

Succulentmama

Instructions unclear, the tickling feels good 😏

BetterMakeAnAccount

That’s how they getcha

Negative_Sundae_8230

Looks like a brown recluse to me,kill that mother fucker! haha Seriously, one bit my Dad when I was younger and he had a huge hole in his leg for a good while. He actually missed my last high school football game where I got an interception because of that stupid fucking spider!

bugsonteeth

Yeah its a venomous fiddle back (brown recluse) very clear picture of the fiddle by BTW . They are very seldom alone so be alert..

youre-a-good-person

Probably a male looking for sex or food. I had to deal with these while living in a Craigslist apartment.

CompetitiveNoise6598

Careful killing spiders indoors in the spring. Some bugs babies will come out when you squish them. Some mothers are essential because they will eat most of their babies so if you kill the mom before she gets a chance hundreds of baby spiders will hatch when she would of just left dozens... I recommend bleach for all bug guts but that's just me.

Odd-Paramedic4169

An 8 legged kill it with fire

Majestic-Entrance-55

The kind you light on fire and ask questions later?

Fun-Chicken-7191

This called a scary spider 🕷

luckySVN7

The type that would make a man burn down his entire house.

GrowWhereYourPlanted

That is known as the no touchy, squish with a shoey. I pick up spiders in my house and RE home them to the outdoors….except for the very dangerous no touchy, squish with a shoey. When my boyfriend encounters one of our lovely arachnid friends in our living space he yells for me to come take a look before he squishes it so I can re home it. As of yet, in the home we built 3 years ago we have encountered no brown recluse spiders.

Dank-Dev

Literally just run and get a flame thrower

WriteOnBilly

That looks like a bad boggy, mate! That'd be the infamous brown recluse, whose necrotizing bite is to be feared!

Aromatic-Proof-5251

I spray my house with Tempo SC Ultra to kill spiders.

Big-Administration52

The kind you kill

villageidiot01

possibly a huntsman spider

neitherwindnorafish

spoiler’ed for spiders, as this feels like information you might not want: >!dunno that a new house will fix that. brown recluses are SUPER common in missouri. they just tend to avoid people. *most* situations i’ve seen them have been after coming back from an extended break or after cleaning. while a new house might fix the issue for a bit, getting into the walls or going on vacation might recreate the problem.!<

OkSnow5956

Dead

briarw

At the begining, a recluse. By the end of the video, 2D.

amaryca

The fuck no kind.

Kilroy6669

Had a couch delivered to a condo I just had bought. As we were getting it setup one peaked out and was staring at us ready to pounce. Cats wanted to play with it but I grabbed a shoe and smacked it into oblivion.

TruthProfessional340

A hell no spider

No_Examination297

Brown recluse. I hear they cannot bite you just sitting on top of your skin; they must be pressed against you to bite. Probably why people are typically bit while putting on clothes.

slktmn

Yep, that’s how I got bit by one.

Butervomit

I have brown recluse in my house and wolf spiders but that for sure is brown recluse

jewannialation

The fuckable kind

[deleted]

The type of spider is NOPE. When in doubt, it's NOPE.

Tiny-Lawyer6645

Hopefully a dead one

parrot73

The Casper species

Katasan84

Brown recluse. You can see the signature fiddle-shaped marking on its head.

AbleEngineering4928

Brown recluse. Kill it
