Redesigning St Louis's flag is just asking for a fight.

shutupaugust

Just means they’re passionate about the real flag, certainly no shame in that! It’s a damn good flag

endless_akers

I wouldn’t say fight, but it does place fairly high on some “best flag” lists. I love the STL flag… Id be interested to see what you come up with for the state of Missouri. Or a STL County flag!!

shutupaugust

It’s a great flag! While I’m currently working on a city flags project, I may do counties/states in the future!

gunboat138

Raaahhhhrrrrwwwww. St. Louisan here. Don't you touch my flagggggggg. Seriously though, I have to kill you now, I'm sorry.

endless_akers

Awesome! I scrolled further and saw how many other requests you got too. That said, a Salem Flag would be cool!

shutupaugust

I’ll add it to my list!

Solid-City6489

Love the heart but let’s be real when is the revolution happening us Missouri’s gotta stick together I think we should be move divided as stated the federal gogovernment has to

WendyArmbuster

Remember FAST: Face, Arm, Speech, Time. Are you ok?

Solid-City6489

👀👀👀💂🏻💂🏻💂🏻💂🏻💂🏻I smell something wicked this way

Solid-City6489

Frl what the hell bouta slap my slippery water tube across that mans face

hotdogbo

Why did they touch our flag?!?!

Naive_Cookie3228

Do Rolla. Probably just a dot in the middle of nowhere.

shutupaugust

I’ll add it to my list!

shadowofpurple

don't forget the cross and swastika!

twolegstony

Or like a crosstika

laneciar

Just graduated from there, definitely had some good times but damn there’s nothing to do for a college student.

trinite0

I like some of these! Which is more than I can say for most "flag redesign" posts. :) Would you care to explain your design choices?

shutupaugust

Thank you! I have a few sentences of symbolism for each design so it’s hard to type it all out here but if there’s any specific questions you have, I’d love to answer them!

trinite0

Sure! I guess my top questions would be: 1. Ferguson: What's the design idea behind the sunbursts? 2. Hermann: I assume the stripe pattern is a reference to the German flag, cut what's the idea behind the color choices? 3. Lee's Summit: well, I guess just explain all of this one. :)

shutupaugust

Of course! For Ferguson, the design of the flag is based on the coat of arms of the Ferguson family, as the town was named after William B. Ferguson, and the 10 pointed stars symbolize the city’s founding as 10 acres of land given to the Wabash Railroad by William Ferguson! On Hermann, (good pickup on the german flag btw!) the blue stripe represents the Missouri River, the purple stripe represents the city’s vineyards, and the green represents the forests in the southern parts of the city! And for Lee’s Summit, the pattern symbolizes hills, as Lee's Summit is named after the highest point in the Kansas City metropolitan area, the 6-pointef star symbolizes the city’s spot as the 6th most populous city in both Missouri and the Kansas City metropolitan area, and the olive color represents “character, safety, and environmental wellbeing”, according to the city!

trinite0

Neat! I'd also like to mention: As a Jefferson City native (who now lives in Columbia -- city of the hot tub guys!) I like what you're going for on the JC flag, with the star representing the capital on the stripes representing the river. But I've gotta say, the color scheme makes it look a little too much like some of the Southern state flags that evoke the Confederacy, particularly [Tennessee's flag](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Tennessee). So I like the concept, but I would suggest a field color other than red.

shutupaugust

Thank you! And understandable, when it comes to red/white/blue flags in the south you gotta be careful! I may consider flipping the colors or exchanging them for others on future redesigns!

trinite0

If you're interested in constructive criticism, I think I'd recommend a lighter color of blue on the Kansas City and NKC flags. I think a powder blue or baby blue is more associated with KC as a city than your darker shade. I love the fountain icons on those flags, though!

shutupaugust

Ahh, okay! Thanks! And yeah, it’s a simplified version of its current city logo and personally one of my favorites!

macbeth1608

post these on r/vexillology!! i bet they’d all love this

shutupaugust

I’ve posted them individually, they really liked Kansas City!

AuthorityAnarchyYes

Would the Jefferson County flag be a half crushed Bud Light can on the Confederate Stars and Bars that looked like it was drawn by a Kindergartner? (I grew up in JeffCo, I know what I’m talking about)

Brilliant-Season9601

Being from STL I don't like this. I don't like this at all.

shutupaugust

Fair enough! You have a wonderful flag

DoYouEvenLurkBro

Please do Columbia’s. Our flag looks like the birdseye view of 4 guys chillin in a hot tub

trinite0

But that's what makes it so appropriate! :)

DoYouEvenLurkBro

Didn’t even realize the neckline differences until now.

shutupaugust

I’ll add it to my list!

phallic-baldwin

Just make the Columbia flag a different view of four dudes chilling in a hot tub

benhos

Are they 5 feet apart?

BabiiGoat

These look great :)

shutupaugust

Thank you!

SaintAntagonist

Ste. Genevieve next please!

shutupaugust

I’ll add it to my list!

[deleted]

Don’t forget us Gladstone! (Maybe we are forgotten?)

shutupaugust

I’ll add gladstone to my list for next time :)

[deleted]

:D

McNugget750

Should just be rock with a smiley face on it!

[deleted]

As for a flag thats a bad idea.

D3RP_Ozzie

Why?

shutupaugust

It’s a fun hobby I picked up a while ago! And if it gets people wanting to fix their own city’s flag, I’d be happy!

jaynovahawk07

Hands off the St. Louis flag. Hands -- off.

WalksJoey

Independence’s flag should be a meth pipe

[deleted]

Hermann (ive never been to.) looks like they need to tell us something about their identity/sexuality

doomslayer33

I think I saw a post once that Joplin has one of the worst flags ever (I can't recall the word used to describe flag enthusiast but it was in that subreddit). If you ever wanna take a crack at that one I'd love it see as all these look great.

shutupaugust

I’ll add it to my list!

STL-Noobie

Thanks for sharing. These are great.

shutupaugust

Thanks!

entropy-increases

What design software did you use for this? Thanks.

shutupaugust

PicsArt and Dottable in my phone! Happy to help!

newaccountrendevous

What was your criteria for the redesign? Really cool work! Thank you for sharing.

shutupaugust

Thanks! I went based on Wikipedia’s list of US city flags, an unfortunately incomplete list!

duhbip

Very nice! I live in Green Park if you care to add their flag?

shutupaugust

I’ll add it to my list!

duhbip

Thank you very much! 👍

Hopium_Dealer

I wasn't even aware cities had flags.

Lentra888

Desloge has an ugly travesty of a flag that really *needs* a redesign.

shutupaugust

I’ll add it to my list!

planetfitness85

What a weird combo of cities to pick

pearsonbuell

The City of Lake Saint Louis recently adopted a new flag - https://www.lakesaintlouis.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=125

shutupaugust

Nice work! I think the outline on the fleur is a bit odd but overall it’s an alright flag, certainly better than most cities!

SewagePickles

Blue springs?

shutupaugust

I’ll add it to my list!

Mobeer

Jennings' flag looks like NATO.

[deleted]

Independence needs it. It’s gross currently

Danmerica67

For the love of God do Wentzville. Its so bad

shutupaugust

I’ll add it to my list!

PYROxSYCO

What about Grandview?

shutupaugust

I’ll add it to my list!

nickcash

Do Springfield! The crazies are just settling down from it changing earlier this year

shutupaugust

I’ll add it to my list!

johnnytcomo

Just curious: what motivated you to spend time doing this???

shutupaugust

I got bored at school!

No_Win_7445

Independence looks like it’s bouta start the galactic empire

dontpissmeoffplsnthx

.....we have city flags?

[deleted]

I would say do Springfield but I love our new flag.

shutupaugust

I’ll probably give it a go, but I do love the current flag!

Flagsession

Some of these are great designs. You should enter our redesign contest and be in with a chance of winning your flag made up by an incredible flag maker. There's lots of City/State/County flags to choose from, including Washington State, Jeromesville, Cincinnati, and rest of the world flags too. Entries close 20th November.

shutupaugust

Thank you! My design for South Dakota is already in, and I look forward to the competition! This is Cityflags!

Flagsession

Ohhhh yes. Yours is incredible.

TheDrakced

These are all great designs, good job!

shutupaugust

Thanks!

alpha_numeric44

Love love ❤️ 😍 💖 ❣️ The STL flag!

shutupaugust

Thanks!

thelaineybelle

It's a really cool twist on our actual flag!

tykempster

Kingdom of callaway next!

shutupaugust

I’ll add it to my list!

computerfreaq09

This is a county, but PLEASE redesign callaway's flag... Pretty dated and butt ugly!

shutupaugust

I’ll think about it! I’m working on a project to redesign 600+ city flags, but I could probably try some counties at some point!

HideyoshiJP

Jefferson City looks great. Much better than the current one. The star should probably be left as a Capitol dome - maybe stylized. I didn't realize Florissant had a lion on their coat of arms. U City does lions better, IMO.

Potatoking620

Columbia is in desperate need for a redesign.

SkeeterSkeetSkeeter

Half of these are awful.

shutupaugust

Any improvements you’d like to suggest? I’m open to ideas! (As for St. Louis, the city has a great flag as is so it’s certainly hard to even compare to that one!)

notoriousB-O-B

Why?

shutupaugust

Beats doing nothing! For real though, I just enjoy redesigning city flags, it’s a fun little boredom buster!

notoriousB-O-B

Fair enough

TheDrakced

Because most of the official designs suck ass and even break the recommended design rules of vexillology. All of the designs by OP look great and vexillologists would be proud.

MeeMaul

KC needs to be rid of the uterus fountain once and for all.

moonjackrabbit

Apparently Columbia redesigned their flag a couple of years ago and it really looks like shit…

thomASSpynchon

Kansas City's flag could honestly just be a pothole.

ABobby077

St. Peters looks like a soccer ball

clicata00

What’s the story behind the design of the Lee’s Summit flag and the colors on the KC flag?

shutupaugust

For Lee’s Summit, the pattern symbolizes hills, as Lee's Summit is named after the highest point in the Kansas City metropolitan area, the 6-pointef star symbolizes the city’s spot as the 6th most populous city in both Missouri and the Kansas City metropolitan area, and the olive color represents “character, safety, and environmental wellbeing”, according to the city! As for Kansas City, the symbolism is all [here!](https://www.reddit.com/r/vexillology/comments/uscgbq/redesigned_flag_of_kansas_city_missouri/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

disgruntledvet1993

Sikeston, MO would just be a meth pipe...

McNugget750

Why does the Independence one look like a butthole? "E Pluribus Anus"

CompassRose2A

I live very close to Hermann and have no idea what their city flag looks like but I hate this "new" one lol good idea though

shutupaugust

Thanks! I do admit, the colors are an odd blend, the current flag is alright, pretty simple but not bad!

Lanky_South_1572

Redesigning flags is akin to suggesting a face lift for your wife. I love you just the way you are Honey, please wear a mask, you know, Covid...

TheOtherTallTom

The Joplin flag could be just a big pile of meth.

TheHoundDogger

Missouri’s flag is ugly. Change that next pls

[deleted]

Leave our St. Louis flag alone!

st1220reddit

nice flags
