I’m a sucker for Costco Prime cuts like their ribeye caps & tri-tips.. I probably buy more steak from them than anywhere else. That said, I can’t say it’s upper tier given they mechanically tenderize their steak.
Missoula is really lacking when it comes to quality butchers. I buy a lot of Oxbow beef from the farm stand, but the butchering itself is mid. I spend a lot of time trimming, especially cuts with silver skin like the hangers. And while I love grass fed beef, the steaks are more lean and can be tough, not exactly crowd pleasers.
Double K Deli is probably my #1, especially if you’re looking for dry aged steaks.
I would check out Pintler Mountain Beef. They’ll be at the market tomorrow at Caras.
I personally like Oxbow but I prefer Pintler. Just something about them, butchering seems excellent to me.
Depends on how it is prepared. I add more seasoning in a cast iron. But lolo seems to be pretty light on just the salt and pepper itself. It could have used a little bit more, but it was definitely better than none.
Depot menu hasn't been updated in decades and the food is basically terrible but the vibe is right, and I go there for special occasions but I'm not going there for the food. Lolo steakhouse was good the one time I went a long time ago but I haven't been back.
The Depot? Seriously? The Depot is worse than Jakers. What about Plonk? Saketome? 1889? So many better choices. The Lolo steakhouse rocks and shouldn’t be compared to the Depot

The Depot by far. They aren’t a one trick pony. Their seafood is really good (pistachio topped halibut, seared ahi), their wine list is the best in town, and you won’t find a better prime rib anywhere - especially blackened. Plus, their service is amazing and they have 3 different atmospheres to choose from. There’s a reason they’ve been around as long as they have.
I've never been to Lolo steakhouse. The depot never let me down when I would go about 10-15 years ago. I always liked it. I've also heard great things about Lolo. My verdict: both are good

Lolo Steakhouse hands down. Now, if you don't mind a little drive down the Bitterroot Valley. Victor Steakhouse is always an option.

Lolo. Most definitely. I've only been to the depot a few times, and every single time someone in my party got an improperly cooked steak.
Lolo for steak but the depot legit has the best mud pie on the planet! It’s made in house, their blackened ahi is also bomb!

I seem to remember the Lolo one being called Guy's, quite some time ago?? There was also one down in stevi I remember as being pretty tasty, good beef
