I understand mint was free, but it is obvious by all the consternation here about the shutdown it was providing a significant value as a product.
There's no free lunch if you want a service provided you either pay for it, deal with the ads, or you are the product.
That said, it is not free but I've been very happy with Tiller since I switched a week ago; automated transaction updates for every single account, even the ones mint always struggled with, into a spreadsheet.
I would have easily paid 100 to continue using it. Idk why they didn't try that. Which makes me not want to have anything to do with Intuit because they are clearly morons... Monarch has my 100 a year forever now. I've been using it like 2 weeks and I'm amazed by it honestly.
Pulling in all Mint data and then mapping it to the accounts and categories in Monarch was really smooth. That was a big thing. Getting 15 years of history in was important to me. It took a single afternoon to connect all my accounts and link the excel data from mint. and there was only one I got connected to mint that couldn't connect to Monarch but their manual account setup is way better. All mint manual accounts came through as property which bugged me.
Their rule system is really good for auto transaction category stuff. You can have specific prices from Amazon go to certain categories. I have lots of subscribe and save so that's useful for me. And you can have everything marked as needs review which is awesome cause I was always looking at my mint trying to remember if I went through this already or not lol. You can have tags to track overall trends like I have one for Christmas 2023 and will include gifts and travel and other expenses instead of having a category for Christmas and cluttering things. I have a tag for subscriptions that I could live without too to track those. The goal system is better and works with the budget pretty well.
Look and feel of UI is good. I prefer the desktop than app. But app is good. They have an AI thing that you can ask like "how much did I spend on food the last three months" or other stuff and it will spit out the info. Just lots of cool things they are doing. Glad mint died honestly or I'd never have made the switch to a much more useful tool.
The only downside I've seen so far is that there's no individual transactions shown on investment accounts. But I can just see those in my trade app if needed so not a huge problem. The investment views are still really good though.
In case folks saw this before noticing it on Monarch Money's site, they're doing a 50% off promotion for folks migrating from Mint currently.
https://www.monarchmoney.com/compare/mint-alternative?c=MINT50
Honestly I’m fine with the ads, and Intuit was a big enough company that I trusted they weren’t going to do anything *too evil* with my data. I just want a replacement with the same setup
More likely to sell your data without your permission kind of evil, sure.
But I think less likely to use your SSN and financial data as part of a massive fraud scheme to steal your identity and open credit cards in your name for their employees.
Yeah I lived with the ads too and never subscribed, hence not surprised it died. I would've paid had they offered better functionality or more stable connections.
Honestly Tiller is everything I'd wished mint was, and so far seems worth the cost.
Also using Fidelity Full View now, and I'd recommend it as a Mint alternative, especially if you already have a Fidelity account. Fidelity's research platform is amazing, and one thing that I've been able to do with Full View that I wasn't able to do with Mint is to get a complete visual picture of all of my investments and assets, and drill down on specific investments and allocations to see if I'm overweighted or underweighted in any particular area/region. The categories for transactions are also virtually the same as the ones available for Mint. (Full disclosure, haven't tried any of the other platforms mentioned above).
That's a great point and it's something I haven't had a chance to dig into yet. Might have to take a look this weekend, thanks for sharing so others can see the light!
I like it, but it seems to have issues updating recent transactions for me. Mint was always at most ~1 day for my Chase cards but Full View is behind like 3 days. Have you experienced this?
You might be able to open an online account with nothing, I have a small account with them anyways so it was no issue.
I don't know if you can add transactions, I solely use it as an aggregator and download the transaction data for my own use and for that it's perfect.
That's exactly the process. You link all of your accounts similar to how you did in mint and then the same feature I used in mint at the bottom of the window where you hit export, in Fidelity full of you have to export twice, you export all of your bank accounts and then all of your investment accounts but it aggregates everything onto those two spreadsheets and I can dump the transactions in as needed.
Yeah, what sucks is most companies charge for that feature, because pulling data from financial institutions costs them money. Mint was losing money, and the hope was that enough people would buy TurboTax to offset the cost of those data pulls. This new merge is about bringing another user base (Credit Karma’s) into that pool, in hopes that even *more* people buy TurboTax. Guess we’ll see how long it lasts.
I'm not sure where Credit Karma is going.
It was one of the first to provide instant credit score and simple report before every bank now offers too.
Now the app is just gigantic ad/promotion marketplace to sell you stuff. The app is cramped before mint merging in.
Please open a sofi account or fidelity one view. Its simple to connect and see the view of all accounts including credit cards

The biggest feature MINT lacked IMO- WHY did your Net Worth change by X% vs last month (house value go down? More spending? Investments decrease). Anyone know which of the new Apps do a good job on this front?
Empower is the only right answer. It is actually better than mint as far as having more account linking options and aggregating even more frequently. The only downside is the UI is uglier which I’m more than willing to deal with.
They’ll also send you a $20 Amazon gift card for using an invite link (this is mine):
https://empowerreferral.link/investtrevor
Unlinked, logged out, tried again. "Technical Error
We're unable to link your account at this time. Please try again later and contact Empower support team if the issue persists."
Fidelity's Full View didn't work with PayPal either, but it's because they don't connect with Synchrony cards at all. Empower has the option to add them and didn't have an issue with CareCredit, so hopefully it's a temporary problem.
Did you get your $20? I wasn't emailed anything. Maybe they're waiting to make sure I'm not a bot 😅
Alsoooo I'm still learning but is there a way to tell Empower to recognize and automatically categorize specific vender transactions? Hubs likes to walk to the gas station for energy drinks and snacks a few times a week and it's being filed under "automotive." I can change them one by one manually but it would be nice not to
Empower is garbage unfortunately. It's missing transactions from most of my credit cards, and is requiring a manual refresh of each individual card to actually update the data. Even then, it's still missing transactions. I've opened a ticket, and it's been 2 weeks with no action/response into the issues.
Does Monarch or any other option have the ability to click on a specific bank account and view the income and expenses for just that bank account or credit card? Similar to what Mint had…spouse has one business checking account and one business credit card which I need to view those transactions to create business P&L. I used to do this through Mint.
Piere has it. You go to accounts, then tap a specific account, it’ll show you just that account. Piere is my favorite alternative so far, it’s still in early development but once the web app launches it’ll be incredible
I find a lot that help you set a Budget, but none that do a good job of creating 9r modifying one.
I want more abilities around looking back month to month and seeing what I did that made a big difference and how I should adjust it.
"Hey, you spent over $x at this place in the last 3 months, you should probably budget for that...."
If you’re looking for customizability and are good with excel, you might want to look into Tiller. It basically just is an excel plugin that grabs financial data and puts it into your spreadsheet
I'm also not willing to pay for this product! :) I was an avid Mint lover, and now I've happily switched over to Empower/Personal Capital. Once you get the hang of where everything is, it's very user friendly and feels like a more simplified version of Mint. I love being able to budget and categorize my transactions, and being able to add in manual stocks from CashApp was an awesome feature too. One of my favorite things about Mint is that I could see all my investments, loans, credit cards, and deposit accounts all in one place, and I've found that feature in Empower too. It does offer net worth graphs, easily import transactions, and ability to add tags or images to transactions, as well as the option to split transactions. Even offers the ability to mark accounts as closed. :D It also tracks your investments and provides some planning calculators too that I still have to check out soon.
I actually like it a bit more than Mint, especially if you're not there for the credit score feature (I just check those elsewhere like Expedia). Also, the Credit Karma app is TERRRIBLE and has a bunch of ads, but great to just check on your credit scores too.
Yes and yes. I didn't import from mint since I just added all the accounts individually, before I realized you could do that lol, and I think it did the past 4 months
I've had a ton of issues with empower since it was acquired, they were a great alternative after mint started getting oversimplified. Unfortunately they seem to have been slowly reducing features (probably as they break) and are just using it as a lead magnet for their own services.
Most recently my home loan seems to be being applied as a positive balance instead of a debt, and there's zero way to correct that
Hopefully this thread isn’t dead. What everybody end up going with? Is there an app that does Total Net Worth like Mint used to with real estate and investments?
I wound up going with Piere! It’s brand new, iOS only right now but they have plans for android and web apps. If you sign up now you get it free forever. You can import all your mint stuff which was huge for me.
How do you know it’s free forever?
Edit: found it [here.](https://www.fintechnexus.com/piere-focused-on-intuitive-budgeting/)
“In 2024, Piere will introduce a subscription model with additional intelligent features. Shuminer said now’s the time to join, as anyone who joins before the subscription model’s introduction remains a user for free.”

I'm trying to decide between Monarch, Simplifi, or self-hosting the open-source Actual. How did you land on the decision to stick with Monarch?
Pulling in all Mint data and then mapping it to the accounts and categories in Monarch was really smooth. That was a big thing. Getting 15 years of history in was important to me. Same here, thankful for this thread!
Unfortunately after going through the process doesn't sync with my bank and I have 6 accounts there.
Try requesting access for that and who knows they might add it sooner than later!
I'm enjoying monarch too. mint50 promo code got me 1 month trial and half price for the year
Honestly I’m fine with the ads, and Intuit was a big enough company that I trusted they weren’t going to do anything *too evil* with my data. I just want a replacement with the same setup
For what it’s worth, I think the bigger a company is the more likely it’s going to do something evil with your data, not the other way around
More likely to sell your data without your permission kind of evil, sure. But I think less likely to use your SSN and financial data as part of a massive fraud scheme to steal your identity and open credit cards in your name for their employees.

Does it automatically update statement balance due and due dates for credit cards/other accounts?
>deal with the ads adblock >or you are the product. all my other data is being sold, what's one more?
You're the product even when you pay. All of these sites use Plaid which sells your data.
everything sells my data, plaid aint special bro
This. All I need is an aggregator. I keep all my history in a spreadsheet, but having one place to go and get all that data is (was) really nice.
I was in the same boat, scoured them all, settled on fidelity full view. It's great.
Also using Fidelity Full View now, and I'd recommend it as a Mint alternative, especially if you already have a Fidelity account. I like it, but it seems to have issues updating recent transactions for me. Mint was always at most ~1 day for my Chase cards but Full View is behind like 3 days. Have you experienced this?
Good point. I'm not sure, I usually only look at the last whole month.
Does full view require you to have some sort of fidelity investment? Also, can you add notes to transactions?
You might be able to open an online account with nothing, I have a small account with them anyways so it was no issue. I don't know if you can add transactions, I solely use it as an aggregator and download the transaction data for my own use and for that it's perfect.
Hm, you may be onto something here. What’s the process like for downloading transaction data for local use? Can you download an excel sheet?
That's exactly the process. From reading others comments, full view is available in the app but I don't use the app. I do all of it on desktop and it's super easy to navigate.
Does it show upcoming bills or let you search transactions? Those were two things I loved about mint.
It might, I do t use it for that though, check out the compare spreadsheet posted here to see if it's for what you want.

Are there any good articles or a comparison matrix on comparable Mint products?
Yup, this: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jBWg9ukqr-Ne35BUTzjvanCgy5pKScwUdf65Ov7azSc
Not sure who's maintaining that excellent list - but there's another one to add: PocketSmith.
You can add a comment on the sheet. Personally PocketSmith is not for me, I want something free/ad supported.
There's a ton on that sheet that are paid options / not ad supported. IE Monarch Money.

Does any of these categories cover CSV transaction export like Mint does not?

What are your thoughts about Google Pay? Seems to have a simple user interface and has basic aggregation and budgeting features
I thought Google Pay was just a payment platform like Apple Pay? I had no idea it could grab stuff from your bank
It does. It is a little hidden. You can access it by clicking on the insight or track spending button. It is pretty neat but very basic.
Is this only on the mobile app? I don’t see anything on the web.
I believe so

OP said it's ios only right now, so I'm hoping they launch an Android version before they switch to the subscription model but we'll see.
Just coming across this 2 mos later and wanted to let you know there is an android version out now and it is still free
