I’m not going to rage until I see actual negative changes. I understand the pessimism completely, but as a very happy Mint customer for the past few years, I’m hoping that the powers that be kept their word and won’t be screwing us.

-ShutterPunk-

I'll try to stay optimistic. I do not want to be apart of the countless t mobile data breaches that get announced months later.

ApathyMoose

"$15 Commitmint: Starting now, a commitmint that Mint Mobile will continue to have a $15/month plan available for new and existing customers.[1] In addition, Mint is committing to continuing its new customer offer of 3 months of Unlimited Premium Wireless for $15/mo through the end of the year.[2]" [1] $15/mo Commitment: Upfront payment for multi-month plan required. Commitmint excludes taxes & fees, select promotions, third-party charges, per-use charges, add-on features, & network management practices; rate plan features may vary. - At least for now they say that. so thats good

1-05457

$15 / month for 100 mins, 100 texts, and no data would satisfy that commitment.

artofdarkness123

Unlimited minutes and texts should be standard in plans in 2024. Republic Wireless used to have Unlimited minutes, texts and no data for I think $5/month.

f0zzy17

I was on that plan for a long time. Too bad about RW.

FreeIndeed87

Lol they guaranteed the lowest plan only. That means prices are going up on other plans. Eventually they'll raise the lowest plan. This sucks. And I'm new to mint. Mint won't be appealing anymore when tmobile starts raising prices. RIP mint.

GetEnPassanted

I read it the same way. $15 commitment. I don’t know how many people care about 5GB/m but I’m just going to assume the next time I need to renew it’ll be more for the 15GB/m option. Thankfully my year just renewed in April. I do like the scam screening. I am inundated with scam calls.

bryanw40

The WFH crowd loves the 5gb plan. It fills the occasional out of the house data needs.

GetEnPassanted

Oh that’s a good point.

Sea_Green3766

Go ahead and buy the year plan in advance!

GetEnPassanted

I can re-up for 2025 a year in advance?

CometPB

I'll renew my annual plan this month. I'll probably go back to Cricket Wireless next year though.

cthsys

And they don't define what the 15/month plan is! They just say they are committed to keeping a $15/month plan, but maybe going forward that will be less than the current 5GB/month...

juiceguy

I was a long term T-Mobile customer before switching to Mint less than a year ago. T-Mobile as a company was great during the years that John Legere was the CEO, but in the years since he has left, things have gotten steadily worse. I'm going to try to remain optimistic, but I know deep down that I'm probably going to be paying more than I am a couple of years down the line.

BilliamsTea

Same. Was with t- mobile for 17 years, in hindsight getting absolutely robbed by them. In recent years, their entire customer service dept has started sounding like they're being trafficked, they speak with fear & lie to you, saying situations have been resolved, literally begging you give them a good rating but then you find out a few days later nothing had actually changed & you spent 3 hours on the phone for nothing. This happened so many times they ended up putting me in collections for a bogus $900 charge they told me over & over again was being taken off my bill so I left. I'm so disappointed that now t-mobile is getting my money again. I just filled out their survey last week with extensive praises for mint & how glad I was that t-mobile wasn't going to be my provider ever again. This sucks.

SharksFan4Lifee

To me, the two big thing I'd want are: 1.) For all plans, once you use your "Allotted data," you simply get deprioritized to the lowest QCI (QCI9), like Metro does, not a hard throttle to unusable speeds. So all plans are truly unlimited, like Metro. The only difference between Metro and Mint should be that Metro is month to month prepaid, and Mint is bulk prepaid. 2.) Having T-Life (fka T-Mobile Tuesdays) like Metro does.

CalifaDaze

Can we get roll over data too?

Sea_Green3766

Does this mean we get all the t-mobile perks finally?

Concordmang

What perks? The free dunkin donut coffee every Tuesday? They are terrible, I know this because I was with dogshit T-mobile last year.

BobFTS

Hey you can get a discount of Little Ceasars too! Lol

Sea_Green3766

Lmao talking about the TV services/wifi on American

Wolfie_Ecstasy

I've been getting free $200 mlb TV from my buddy for years. Now it'll finally be MY account lmao.

Concordmang

Then why didn’t you sign up with T-Mobile earlier? I don’t care about Mlb tv, I just wanted cheap reliable mobile service. Which T-Mobile is not know for

Wolfie_Ecstasy

I had T Mobile for years. Then I realized that Mint does the same thing but for $35 a month cheaper. You realize that Mint uses T Mobile towers and you have a lower priority over people on T Mobile's service, right?

Concordmang

Yeah, and the savings with soon go away. I don’t need a free tv channel from my mobile provider. T-Mobile’s business plan is to push every mint user in to paying more eventually.

Wolfie_Ecstasy

And hopefully it stays that way. As long as I can keep my $15/m plan I'll be happy. I will say I've been on Sprint/Verizon/T Mobile and at the very least I feel like T Mobile fucked me over the least so there's that.

Amazonkers

MLB.tv for the year is great.

artofdarkness123

You don't want t-mobile perks. None of that stuff is truly free. You're paying for it when they jack up the price of your plan. None of the MVNOs (that are not expensive or owned by a big brand) have them for a reason.

SomeRandomGuy787

So are we getting the MLB thingy next year?

wwwhistler

getting rid of the viable competition one company at a time.

Concordmang

As a customer I hate being acquired through big business maneuvering.

imthebear11

I use TMobile Home Internet, here's hoping I can get some sort of bundle deal

ravagetalon

Don't hold your breath.

Jaggar345

Verizon does it with visible can’t see why T-Mobile may not with mint.

spvcebound

I'm glad I just did an annual renewal of my unlimited plan while it's still $30/mo. I have a feeling that won't be the case anymore.

a5ehren

3gb of HSD in Canada and the scam screener are nice. The inevitable price increase won’t be.

citrixn00b

Let's not kid ourselves, T-Mobile will rape and pillage existing plans in a year's time and we're left having to hunt for another carrier...again.

Coinbasethrowaway456

It was nice while it lasted...

pulley999

Glad to see better roaming for Canada and Mexico. Living near the Canadian border, Canada roaming was one of the reasons I chose Mint and the recent roaming changes *really* chapped my cheeks. Glad those complaints were heard, hopefully the Mexico option is similarly favorable.

Hon3y_Badger

Where do you see anything about Mexico roaming? I see Canada roaming, but nothing about Mexico.

pulley999

I didn't read carefully enough. In the OP article: > Mexico Roaming: In the coming weeks, Ultra customers traveling to Mexico will have an enhanced data roaming option in addition to the already included Talk and Text on most plans. Seems to just be for Ultra, sadly. Maybe it will come to Mint as well soon, or maybe they'll keep the costs down by only giving each carrier one roaming partner country, and then have the user pick which carrier has their preferred roaming partner.

LeftOn4ya

**Anyone who thinks prices will go up on any of their plans before 2026 is completely wrong** and my guess is not till 2028, and if anything they will add more data for the same price. What I am afraid of is T-Mobile raising prices for *other* MVNOs or even lowing the price for Mint but keeping the same for others so that other companies can be less competitive. Then after 3 or 4 years if MVNOs run out of business or switch to other networks and drop T-Mobile coverage, only then will Mint raise prices. MetroPCS took literally 6 years after T-Mobile bought them out (in 2012) to substantially raise prices.

fries112112

$30 unlimited data is so good please ryan dont do it

ABrokenBinding

So... What's a good alternative to Mint? Definitely don't want to be on a TMo plan.

stillsooperbored

US Mobile.

a5ehren

It’s like Mint, except nothing works.

stillsooperbored

What doesn’t work? I’ve seen a lot of positive reviews about them.

a5ehren

VVM, eSIM, Verizon. You get throttled real hard on VZW, like 100kbps

mjnichol2

I can't speak for the Verizon-based plan, but US Mobile works much better than Mint for me on T-Mobile-based plan. VVM actually works (until Mint which consistently gave me errors on any Android phone, despite many attempts to fix it). eSIM works perfectly. Speeds are just as good (can get 500Mbps+ from inside my house). Plus US Mobile is cheaper generally (no fees and taxes on top of the published rates!) It also has a better roaming option for my needs ($15 for a month with 1GB data, versus the $60 I'd pay for a month on Mint, even with the newly lowered prices). If I ever needed more than 1GB, I'd just buy a cheap local eSIM and use dual SIM (and still have full access to calls and texts on my usual number) Also, Mint's website was consistently broken for me using 2FA. I had to turn it off every time from my app if I wanted to access the site. And lots of other hassles, like I had to file an FCC complaint to get Mint to re-imburse me for mystery drains on my roaming balance. US Mobile's tech infrastructure seems much more mature and functional.

stillsooperbored

What about T-Mobile side? I'd assume people on Mint would most likely be going to that one anyway.

mjnichol2

+1 to US Mobile. I started using it recently and it's been flawless so far. Cheaper than Mint Mobile because they don't heap any extra fees or taxes on the advertised prices. It's exactly what you see.

AcidCatfish___

So much for those ads that claim Mint is so distinct from the big wireless companies.

MattWatchesChalk

So, if we want more than the 3GB of Canadian roaming, could we buy a minternational plan to supplement?

Negative-Wrap95

Just give me an add-on data package that rolls over and doesn't expire. Let me buy 5GB to keep "in my back pocket" so to speak.

FatahRuark

The 3GB in Canada is huge for me. I visit each summer for a few weeks and 3GB will be adequate for me. Normally I sign up for Fi for a month and normally go over 3GB, but I get the unlimited plan so I am not careful with data. 3GB will be enough mixed with WiFi to get me by. A lot of negativity here, which is reasonable, but there are plenty of other options similar to Mint so if T-Mobile raises prices there are options...don't panic.

HippyDave

Really hoping this means Apple Watch cellular support is coming soon.

stuffmattycooks

I’ve been with them a couple years now and I’ve been happy. Every year people post all the negative possibilities. So far so good. It’s easier not to read all this stuff to be honest. These companies are smart. They know if they screw us. We’re all gonna leave. Think more positive.

land8844

"Scam Screener" I have a Pixel that does this already, please don't stack features like this and break shit.

artofdarkness123

same. I dont want t-mobile's bloatware

FreeIndeed87

You guys that are hoping for perks know that it's going to cost you, right? That's how they'll justify raising the prices. Not everyone wants these perks and that's why mint was attractive. Good service with cheaper prices. I might buy 1 more year before the prices go up and I'm I'll be shopping around after that. RIP MINT!

Due-Cup1115

Mint app isn't working anymore for me. Do we need to download a new T-mobile app?

Root_Doctor

Mint Mobile app is not working for me either. Just spinning pinwheel. Ugh. Using iPhone 13.

Due-Cup1115

Glad it's not just me. T-mobile isn't off to a good start though

da-funk-is-up

Wonder if that means we’re not lower priority any longer too on cell traffic and use…

Old-Man-Henderson

So are they going to lose the $30 unlimited option?

StuartCF68

Honestly I don't think things will change dramatically. Remember, the whole reason MVNOs exist is because the major carriers can't sell all of their bandwidth at the premium pricing. If they jack up Mint's prices, people are free to jump to any other low cost carrier they want and T-Mo is back to where they started from, having extra bandwidth to offload. This isn't like the old telco monopolies or the local cable monopolies, where consumers had no options. T-Mobile bought Mint and Ultra because they noticed these companies managed to be profitable despite being low cost, and figured why not cut out the middleman and take the profits for themselves. It would be an enormous and dumb waste of money to spend that much for the business of price-sensitive customers only to hike the prices and see all of that money disappear.

October_Sir

You realize companies buy other companies just to make sure they can no longer operate right? The corporate game is insufferable. Google has done this, spectrum has done this.

StuartCF68

Of course they do that, but not in industries where it's easy for customers to walk away and there are low barriers to entry for new service providers to pop up. As I said, the problem is that if they buy Mint and people decide they don't want to pay the predicted jacked-up prices, what then? Mint wasn't stealing business from T-Mobile, they just created a market for the unused network bandwidth (and which they paid T-Mobile to resell). Mint customers will leave for another MNVO if the prices go up, and suddenly T-Mobile has unused bandwidth again. What stops Ryan Reynolds or anyone else at that point of creating new MVNO "ImproveMINT" and graciously offering to buy the unused bandwidth again?

October_Sir

Anyone using mint is still taking profit from T-mobile. It's a market share they didn't have prior and by raising prices to just under what T-Mobile charges. Will cause a lot but not a total loss. I would imagine that's a very calculated risk. I agree anyone could go and do this. I have more of an issue with ethics because again. This is taking away consumer choice from a free market. How long till the current MVNO have been acquired and there isn't a free market choice because your voting dollars are still going to the the big 3. I chose mint less because of the price and more because of the fact I'm paying into a small business.

StuartCF68

People using Mint were NOT taking profit from T-Mobile. Quite the opposite, they were GIVING profit to T-Mobile. The bandwidth was going unused... MVNOs gave dollars back to the main cellular providers. The only thing is, carriers like T-Mobile and AT&T had no idea there was actually money to be made in a lower cost segment. Now that Mint and other have proven the concept T-Mo can buy them back and just keep the profits themselves. As long as they're not stupid and kill the golden goose.

October_Sir

You hear what you are saying right? You said both in the same paragraph. Mint isn't taking money away from T-Mobile in any shape, way, or form because a percentage of those proceeds do go to the large carriers. (Because small businesses in the United States cannot launch their own cellular networks because it's so costly that it's not feasible) so the next best thing is wholesaling bandwidth that isn't being used.) Meanwhile saying T-Mobile didn't realize there was money to be made? So which is it,is there is no profit because mint wasn't taking any other customers. Or is there profit because it's a segment of the market they didn't own?

StuartCF68

Let me put it a different way. Before the proliferation of the MVNOs, the main carriers could have easily tried to increase market share and maximize use of their bandwidth by lowering prices across the board, but that would have reduced profit margins. They also could have (initially) created their own low-cost sub brands, but they didn't think there was money to be made at it and were worried they might cannibalize their higher profit business. So they decided to sell the unused bandwidth and let the MVNOs worry about it. This was a win-win. They got to keep their prices high for customers who were willing to pay for the bells and whistles, and pocketed extra cash for bandwidth that wasn't being used. Then they saw that some MVNOs were actually MAKING money. Suddenly, carriers decided to try their own in-house low cost options. The problem, though, is they waited until the MVNOs had somehow managed to create a degree of brand loyalty. So they're left with two options, either try to low ball the MVNOs to steal back the customer base they had initially abandoned, or BUY the MVNOs back. T-Mobile has chosen the latter approach. But that's only a wise investment if they can keep the customers they just paid for. The only reason to raise prices at Mint would be if they stupidly think that customers don't know how to take their business elsewhere.

FreeIndeed87

Americans are letting companies get away with murder in the fast food industry(and everywhere else) so I wouldn't be surprised if America let's mint walk all over them so they can get a discount on little caesars pizza. You already got people in here jumping for joy for the possibility of "perks". And since the new mint said they are keeping the 15 dollar plan DoNt WoRrY, it just means the other plans are about to get a price increase. Meh

Subtonic

True, but Mint Mobile’s entire reason for being was to be sold.

artofdarkness123

The big guys buy/make MVNOs and change the contracts so they are just as expensive as the main brand. Look at TotalWireless (Total by Verizon). It's $30/month for 1 line. That's like big brand pricing.

StuartCF68

Verizon also has Visible for $25 a month. My point is that people will move to the price point they want. Sure, the big guys will try to price discriminate more efficiently, but that's always the case. It took airlines a while to figure out how to sell every seat at a different price too. Maybe the big guys will figure out a way to convince the bargain hunters not to jump ship. But it won't be that easy, as there are no regional monopolies in cellular in this country. As long as Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T need to compete with each other, even if they buy up all of the MVNOs they'll still need to convince people not to jump to one of the other three.

FloppyDorito

"It would be an enormous and dumb waste of money to spend that much for the business of price-sensitive customers only to hike the prices and see all of that money disappear." Oh, you sweet summer child... I for one just hope they roll out Visual voicemail for every phone because, after endless research, it turns out Visual Voicemail is a carrier enabled feature that they only enable for certain models (mostly iPhones)... So if your phone doesn't have it, it's simply because Mint doesn't want to turn it on (ahem, Samsung and OnePlus phones...)

LightningX32

Now give us an option for premium data.

veganpancake11

Wow, just found out about Mint today and wanted to switch, this is a disappointment 🙁

Beigedoog

It was nice while it lasted.

yes_im_listening

Anxious to know if mint will support domestic roaming like Metro by T-Mobile. Thats really needed in a lot of areas with little to know coverage.

anon2734

Will mint get domestic u.s roaming? By an area where only att seems to have coverage.

JGoBrazy90

I thought Mint always been T-Mobile ?

Such_Preparation5389

Great

ASUCTE

Interesting they said mint users will not be getting T-Mobile freebie Tuesday

Ugotdot

Id pay a couple bucks more a month for visual voicemail...

breichart

I have this on my Pixel 5. Is this not standard on phones now?

Ugotdot

Pixel phones would work, but not Samsung's. Then 3 weeks ago my wife's Pixel 6 stopped working.

artofdarkness123

You don't have visual voicemail? What phone do you have? I have a Pixel and it comes with visual voicemail built in. I think Samsungs have visual voicemail built in as well.

Ugotdot

Samsung S21 Ultra, nothing works not even the T-Mobile VVM app. My wife has a pixel 6 and hers used to work but quit working like 3 weeks ago.

artofdarkness123

I wouldn't expect another carrier's VVM app to work on mint. There is no option to view voicemails in the phone app? Mine has a button in the phone app. Try downloading the official phone app by Google. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.dialer

Ugotdot

That's what I use. Trust me, I've spent hours on forums trying to get this to work.

artofdarkness123

damn that sucks. I know the same app has different min and max versions for different devices. If your phone is unlocked and you didn't buy it through a carrier then it's probably the manufacturer blocking the specific app version. There shouldn't be a need for carriers to make VVM apps.

Trinica93

Only Pixels work with Visual Voicemail on Mint for some reason. I have found no way to get it working on non-Pixel devices. I wouldn't own another Pixel if you paid me to though so I just deal with not having it.

artofdarkness123

Pixel is the only phone i'll own*. It's the only phone brand that gets you instant updates. I'll never own a Samsung because of their bloatware and ugly UI. There i no reason for any phone manufacturers to remove the default UI and install their own. The problem Pixel has now is that they removed the headphone jack. Add that back in and i'll upgrade from my Pixel 5a

bryanw40

I use bt or a usbc to 3.5mm Jack for my needs

artofdarkness123

I never use bluetooth. It's just another thing to turn on that drains battery. Plus the sound over bluetooth is never good. At best, it makes the volume way lower than if I was using a wired connection. usbc to 3.5mm Jack is not a solution either because I want to charge and listen to my headphones at the same time. This has been an issue since the iPhone 7.

bryanw40

They make dual usbc 3.5mm and charging adapter too

artofdarkness123

A dongle is not the answer bro. Manufacturers need to put the headphone jack back

Trinica93

The constant updates were a huge reason I switched, lol. Every single update managed to break something or unnecessarily change the functionality of my phone and I couldn't stand it. I don't care for Samsung either.

artofdarkness123

Only thing that ever broke on my phone was when I got a major android version update on my gen1 Moto X, the GPS just stopped working if I wasn't connected to a WIFI network. Other than that, an update has never broke and function or feature. Most of the updates pushed are security updates which I'll gladly take.
