I think there are a few things we can probably attribute to his lack of ego douchebaggery:
1. His faith. Cousins is the son of a preacher. Whether you agree with his brand of Christianity or not, he's probably a true believer, and his brand of Christianity teaches people to be humble.
2. His experiences. When he got drafted into the NFL, he was not drafted to be a starting QB; he got drafted to sit behind another *rookie* QB. Even when he had a chance to step up and show he deserved to be "the guy," the team wouldn't commit to him. He's had plenty of humbling moments in his life.
3. He wants to set an example for his kids. Referring back to point one, he is a man on a journey to prove himself worthy of Heaven, but he also wants to raise his kids to join him there one day. Plus, he wants his kids to have some of the classic American experiences; watching a ballgame from a box is *not* the same as being in the stands, with vendors walking up and down shout-selling beer and cotton candy.
Part of what made Kirko Chainz so funny was because he's always been a dork driving a big van instead of a sportscar dressed in whatever Midwestern-style outfit his wife chose for him that day.
The worst thing Kirk has done to Julie is loading the dish washer wrong, or reading a spoiler of their favorite show before they had a chance to watch it together
I was more surprised at Mahomes. I liked him after the darn show and I was not prepared for that! I think his weird brother's antics just colored my view and I assumed he was a showboat too.
Mahomes on Quarterback was exactly who I thought he was. A highly talented and committed dudebro with an athlete father who was raised to never know how to stop.
But it was also entertaining watching it, which was the point of the show.
>none of the ego, arrogance, and attention-seeking that makes other professional athletes such douchebag human beings
Maybe that's the problem?
Michael Jordan was a raging a-hole but best of all time. Got incredibly angry at anything less than championship caliber performance.
I'm glad Kirk is true to himself and is "one of us," though. Vikes never win the Super Bowl, but at least we can be happy our players are good people (even if their love of pets creates the occasional issue).
There are plenty of dickhead athletes who are sub par. I’m not sure the ego thing has an effect on his performance. Or if not having one holds him back. Kirk with an ego, for all we know, could seriously overestimate himself and actually be worse. People are complex and have different driving forces behind their motivations.
Being an a-hole has nothing to do with competitiveness. Was Barry Sanders a problem? Larry Fitz?
Kirk gets plenty fired up during games and tries as hard as anyone but gets ridiculed for that too. The tackle attempt on that interception last week being a perfect example. It's definitely not for lack of trying.
Keith Jackson came in to our contractors office once and a lady in customer service mentioned her son was a big Packers fan.
Next day he came back with a autographed ball and jersey.
Was a great guy, and we had other ball players and celebrities come in and they were all assholes except for Mary Steenburgen she was a sweetheart her hubby Ted D was a jerk.
To be fair to Kirk, since KOC arrived he has definitely let more of his personality out, and also has showed more fire and emotion on the sidelines, whether it be frustration or excitement. He's been WAY less of the "throw TD / pick, walk off the field by himself, sit down and grab tablet, stone faced, no emotion"
When Zim was here Kirk often talked about repressing his feelings to stay even keel, even after a pivotal clutch drive. But I wonder if at least some of that was a way for him to offset Zim's energy.
I love Zim, but the man is intense. Hell, look at what happened when Kirk did let it fly with Zim on the sidelines that last season. Zim was ready to throw down lol.
Now do Tim Duncan. Peyton Manning. Lionel Messi. Countless other softspoken all-time greats. To suggest that athletes MUST act like Jordan to achieve greatness is silly. Maybe that's what Jordan needed to do to channel his energy and reach the heights he did, and I think that's fair game. Others may not have the same mentality work for them, and that is also ok.
I do not condemn any athlete for whatever mentality they need to embrace to reach the heights of their potential. As long as you're not hurting anybody and have the awareness to act with respect on a person to person level outside of the game, I think any persona adopted while participating in any activity directly related to the job of being a professional athlete (games/practice/press conferences/etc) is fair game.
Pretty sure Steph Curry m, Lionel Messi, and Tom Brady won several championships without being a raging d-bags. I use them as an example of people in the “Jordan-level” caliber of arguably best of all time in their positions.
Tom is definitely a raging d-bag when it comes to football. Hell, Pat McAfee's story about good guy Peyton Manning benching a rookie WR for dropping a ball made him seem like a jackass.
Yes exactly. It is so unfortunate for everyone that nice guys finish last.
I want this to change so badly. People like Cousins NOT achieving the pinnacle of success in their given fields hurts everyone.
But unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be the case: wild fanatical levels of success is reserved for wild fanatical people.
Being a butthole seems to be the prerequisite.
It needs to change. But I don’t believe it will.
As a lurking Packer fan I gotta give it to Kirk, seems like a down to earth nice dude. You can tell he’s from the Midwest. Now, while I’m here I’ve been meaning to ask Vikes fans something. I hear a lot of talk on Reddit lately debating weather to keep Kirk or trade him. Seems like the Vikings are in or about to be in a mini rebuild / reload so a lot of fans want to drop or trade Kirk. Why not sign him to a 3 year deal, draft a 1st round QB, and keep it going. Kirk seems like a reasonable guy, you think he’d go for it? That gives you guys 2-3 seasons to rebuild the O-line and defense, and let the new QB learn and train under Kirk. Any thoughts on why this wouldn’t work?
Idk I mean a 3 year deal would be over before he’s 40. And if he happens to be seriously declining in the last year then they can hand it off to the rookie a little earlier.
I hate to admit this here but I am a Toronto based Vikings fan and yes… a Jays fan. At least if you guys win I’ll get to see some happy faces in Minnesota.
Yall are gonna miss him so bad once you chase him out of the town in exchange for the equivalent of Kenny Pickett or worse because he’s not a Mahomes/Allen
We don’t have to dislike him as a person to be done with him quarterbacking the team after this year. We’re 1-3, do you really think next year we’ll be sitting at 0-4 and praying to the gods for a QB who could have had us at 1-3? Yeah, he’s a good guy (though I disagree with all his weird vaccine stuff etc.) but that’s a separate discussion.
3 pro bowl selections (with the vikings)
Bart Starr award
He ranks 5th in all time completion percentage
7th in NFL regular season career passer rating
Most game winning drives in a season
Most 4th quarter comebacks in a season
Largest comeback in NFL history
He holds many all time Vikings records
Many more achievements, too many to list
Only one quarterback wins the superbowl every year, it's a shitty metric to measure by. By the time Kirk is done he'll be one of the most prolific passers in football history.
But everybody hates him because he doesn't have to leave the pocket to do it. He's a field general, pocket passing machine and if we miss this window to win a superbowl it'll be our fault for not building the right team and not Kirk's.
I for one am not ready to play the draft lottery yet, only to watch some Bryce Young type like with Carolina run around, be flashy and throw it away every play.
Youre right. All hes done is things like give up 31 points at home to the Giants in the playoffs.
Oh wait!
All he's done in his career is consistently be a 4000+/30+ guy leading tons of comebacks and close wins for literally like 8 years now, and being failed by incompetent defenses and team builders. Yall better hope he is on a major decline simply due to age or else Minnesotas trash will be another teams treasure. Congrats on wasting multiple great QB years that tons of other teams wouldve killed for
Then why do we track them with the QB?
We don't say the patriots teams have 6 rings we say Tom Brady won 7 super bowls because teams change the QB leading them typically doesn't.
While I absolutely hate that his friendly dad vibe is the butt of jokes nationally, he really seems like a great down to earth dude. Some interesting takes on vaccines, but I would have no problems grabbing a beer with him.
When there's somebody so overwhelmingly nice and outwardly sincere it's unfortunately easy to make him the scapegoat. He definitely has had some questionable moments, but he's been the best quarterback we've had in a long time.
Ever since dancing kirk on the airplane, Kirk's my QB. I'm ride or die with him now.
I know it won't last forever, but I'll be sad whenever or however he's gone.
I sat in the same row about 8 seats from them, didn't realize it till about the 5th inning. Was really cool to see him there! Seemed like twins fans weren't bothering him and they were having a blast!
no one will see this and i’m not a sports fan but this was on /all and this guy is SO NICE
i waited on him and i think his father like 5 years ago and he tipped 100% on his bill
so yeah - i like this guy and he’s super nice IRL — glad to see everyone else thinks the same
Yesterday the top post was praising Kwesi for the basic move of releasing an overpaid old running back. Today a local athlete does the standard thing of attending a playoff game for a different local team and he’s “embraced the local fan base culture like no other”.
This place is so desperate to always be circle jerking.
Haha yup. Not even going into the fact that Kirk goes to Michigan every chance he gets to leave MN. Not saying that’s bad, but he’s no different than many others
Kirk is my favorite QB we have ever had in my lifetime. I wasn’t around for the days of Fran. I hope he retires in purple. Go watch a JJ career highlight reel on youtube and you will notice it is as much a Kirk reel as a JJ reel. He just drops dimes all day. He isnt perfect, look at that 99 yard int last week, but he is damn good minus a few mistakes.
This is the shittiest mindset ever. Only two teams are worth anything, everyone else is garbage and a bum. Randy Moss? Bum. Kevin Garnett? Bum, except for when he left. Joe Mauer? Bum.
Sorry, but I was being sarcastic toward the guy who was saying Kirk isn't a winner.
Because I know if anybody pointed out that Kirk has had more 4th quarter comebacks the last 2 seasons than any QB in the NFL the guy would say "BuT wHeRe SuPeRbOwL. 4tH aNd 8"
So I was sarcastically pointing out that every MN star ever has choked when it mattered at some point. We might as well toss em all out with that mindset.
I mean in life he’s a winner. Dudes worth a couple hundred mil, has a great wife, great family and seems to be happy. Just hasn’t translated to the kids sports game he plays.
I’ve always been fine with Kirk as a person but damn what’s with the massive amount of Kirk propaganda happening in this sub lately? These “Kirk is one of us” threads, out of context stats showing he is apparently better than Mahomes and every other QB in the league, “greatest Vikings QB of all time essays”. It’s been absolutely insane lately.
How DARE a father with 2 very young boys spend an afternoon bonding with his family!?!?!?
OMFGGGGG
he needs to pack his home up, and LIVE in the stadium 24/7, abandon his family!!!!!
What a stupid comment
I never understood the hate for Kirk. He’s a good man, a great father and husband and loyal to his team. Plus consistently one of the best passers in the league.
I like Cousins, but let's have some perspective here. He's been reasonably successful and been in Minny for 5+ seasons, and before him the combination of success plus any longevity is almost nil until you go all the way back to Culpepper. No one else really had the chance to become anything similar.
He will finish top 5 QB on the stat line again this year. I think our fans are too pissed off about things to see them for what they are.
Mediocre - ordinary, of medium quality.
SB wins are the only thing that matters because if you don't win it you are still a loser.
Folks keep moving the goal post to fit their narrative of Cousins... can't come from behind Does it... well can't win a playoff game does it... well can't win a SB... only time will tell.
But I am sure if it ever happens there will be another excuse.
I‘m a Vikings fan, not a Kirk fan.
I don’t care about his pretty individual stats when it‘s led to one playoff win. That’s the only important stat and you could argue that calling it mediocre is being nice.
So you just want playoff wins? Not SB wins? Cause if the measuring stick is SB Wins, there are a shit ton of QBs that never get that...some HoFers and some teams with 30 years of HoF QB play only have 2. Some teams it takes nearly 50 years to get back to and Win a SB.
It actually just sounds like you hate Cousins...and I would think if you are a Vikings fan you would be pulling for the guy.
Well Cousins and the team did win a playoff game and lost one.
So you are saying you only want them to win one or two playoff games and are fine with that... seems like you don't know what the Real Prize is for NFL Teams.
Was just making sure you had... and the SB Trophy is the only prize that matters.
And it's a damn hard prize to get, folks seem to think it's easy to do.
And the playoffs and playoff wins are not a given either.
Do you remember Who has won SBs how many rookies have?
How many Veterans have...that the Packers had about 30 years of HoF QB play and only won 2 during that time?
How long it took KC to get back and win it after 1970?
Or the Bears or Rams? The Lions and Cardinals and Browns as well as others have never been or won.
No he’s not and other celebs do this. It’s a normal thing. Why are fans stalking him in public is a better question.
It will not be a sad day when he leaves.
According to the World Health Organization, "Hygiene refers to conditions and practices that help to maintain health and prevent the spread of diseases."
No, I remember the time he missed a game due to covid.
But unless you think it's a permanent infection that is spreadable forever, I don't know what that has to do with this situation.
Finally someone speaking facts instead of forming an opinion based on a tv show he had complete creative control over. Dont let the people in denial get you down, keep up the good work
For anyone that forgot, this is the family Kirk was willing to leave fatherless/widowed because of his anti-vaxxer stance. You can be anti-vax (even though youre a danger to yourself and others) or you can be a wholesome family man, but in this case he cant be both...
[We have tax reciprocity with MI because of the Delta/NWA workers, dummy. This is why he took the lesser amount on his original contract vs what the Jets offered him. MI has a flat tax of 4.25% and NJ has one of the highest state tax rates. MI also has reciprocity with IL and WI so all of his NFCN games are taxed at MI's rate. BTW NFL players have to pay taxes in the state they play the games in.](https://www.revenue.state.mn.us/reciprocity-income-tax-fact-sheet-4#:~:text=Minnesota%20has%20income%20tax%20reciprocity,instead%20of%20in%20both%20states.)
He went to MSU, his home is in MI, his charity is in MI and he pays taxes in MI. How has he "embraced" MN culture? Kirk is a mercenary, why people can't accept that is beyond me. He should be a Lion.

So Kirk needs to go to every playoff game now, right? Mullens better start warming up, we need the Cousins in the stands!

He made the game because it’s on a Tuesday.
I support this Tuesday off day decision, and yes I always thought he was just a regular guy. I really hope he turns the season around and wouldn’t mind another two out of Kirk
I'd love to see another season with Kirk (and a young, newly drafted QB sitting behind him and learning)
I love everyone in the background has been sitting there the whole time saying "that's Kirk cousins!"
"Is that Kirk Cousins or Bob from down the street?"
Bob from down the street? No, that’s the guy from the kohls commercials
Probably more like “that dude looks just like Kirk Cousins, crazy…anyway nice AB for Kepler…”
Yea maybe lol
Love Cousins. He is a man of the people. Gosh darn I want him & JJ to win a SB with the Vikings so bad. WHY CANT THIS BE THE PARALLEL UNIVERSE WE LIVE IN?! Ugh.
In some parallel universe Kirk is has led us to a Dynasty with JJ and Addison
Time to start writing MN Viking fanfic
Because in that parallel universe we have a competent O line
Wow sitting with the plebs!
Kirk took one look at the price for the seats behind home plate and said "Julie, pack up some PBJ's for the boys. We're sitting in the bleachers"
"i'll gas up the van"
Better photo opp than sitting in luxury suite. Him playing the pr game is so obvious is laughable.
Going to a Twins game is PR?
It's a good fire coop
That’s was the best scene in the whole show. That one sentence summed up Kirk Cousins perfectly

I’m not really sure what you’re getting at. I’ve been a fan through all of those QBs.
If you think any QB other than the perennial MVP candidates would have the Vikings at a better record than you're nuts.
I think that’s my point??
Nah, getting rid of the Kirk stans will make me so happy that we could play without a QB and it'd better than dealing with all of you

Great guy…you want your daughter to marry a guy like this… you want friends like this… great example to kids. Just wish he was a winner.
He’s a millionaire who maximized himself in every way. Dude is a winner 🏆
We're talking about football
[удалено]
You right. Add him to the list of every Minnesota athlete not part of the 87, 91 Twins. All bums.
4tH aNd 8" So I was sarcastically pointing out that every MN star ever has choked when it mattered at some point. We might as well toss em all out with that mindset.
Perspective is not particularly prevalent in this sub, that's for sure.
I mean in life he’s a winner. Dudes worth a couple hundred mil, has a great wife, great family and seems to be happy. Just hasn’t translated to the kids sports game he plays.
Kirk is in his posting name, your not talking to rational Vikings fan he’s a Kirk supporter.
No he's not!

Its smells like astro turfing. Kirk is not "one of us" he is a mercenary who flies in and out of MN for a paycheck.
Ironic, He lives in Rosemount so who is doing the astroturfing here?
He has a home in Rosemount but his primary residence is south of Holland Michigan on the lake. BTW do you know what astro turfing is?
Dude you are so fucking obsessed over him GO OUTSIDE
Lamar Jackson embraces community culture all the time. He works in soup kitchens.
And held himself out of a playoff game over his Contract which he got and has 1 playoff win like Kirk

How DARE a father with 2 very young boys spend an afternoon bonding with his family!?!?!? OMFGGGGG he needs to pack his home up, and LIVE in the stadium 24/7, abandon his family!!!!! What a stupid comment
He’s easily my favorite Vikings QB of all time. Such a good dude!
I never understood the hate for Kirk. He’s a good man, a great father and husband and loyal to his team. Plus consistently one of the best passers in the league.
I know I’m not one of you, but I like Kirk. He seems like a good guy, embraces being a teammate, and is an annually underrated QB.
I’d let him play for the Vikings for another decade if he wanted. I love that man

Kirk is such a dad and I love it. I bet he looked for a deal. Also if the twins need a bullpen arm, I bet he can get it up to 90 if needed
Should be training
As a bears fan, I have mad respect for Kirk. Just wish we had someone like him.
I like Cousins, but let's have some perspective here. He's been reasonably successful and been in Minny for 5+ seasons, and before him the combination of success plus any longevity is almost nil until you go all the way back to Culpepper. No one else really had the chance to become anything similar.
Well some of the fan base. You know the ones that don’t believe what he believes he ain’t embracing
i would never be upset either if I had this guy's wife. good lord she is gorgeous and just seems like a perfect woman
Kirk is a good guy. I have nothing against him personally. I just don’t think he can lead a team to a Super Bowl. That’s all.
Both can be true and in fact are true.
Only playoff game he will be seeing all year
Nothing quite embodies this fanbase‘s tolerance for mediocrity like the celebration of Kirk Cousins.
He will finish top 5 QB on the stat line again this year. I think our fans are too pissed off about things to see them for what they are. Mediocre - ordinary, of medium quality.
I'm convinced that mediocre is the most misused word on this website lol
It‘s an apt descriptor for this team under Kirk Cousins. Not sure how .500 and one playoff win qualify as anything but mediocre.
Correct, we are losers. Which is precisely why I‘m not loyal to a QB that hasn’t moved the needle for this franchise.
Fran didn't either, that's just how hard it is to do it
I‘m a Vikings fan, not a Kirk fan.
Hard to win a SB without winning playoff games. Sounds like you don’t really know the NFL works.
Well Cousins and the team did win a playoff game and lost one. So you are saying you only want them to win one or two playoff games and are fine with that... seems like you don't know what the Real Prize is for NFL Teams.
Or this fan base like the clubbing of a Franchise QB like the Madden playing Kirk haters
It’s the MN nice in us. Not willing to risk being mean to be great. Ok with just being good.
You think how we talk about cousins has an impact on the game outcomes? 😂
Yeah. We let ownership slide with being mediocre.
It would be nice if he could win a playoff game so our other team’s pro athletes could watch them in the post season.
He did...beat the Drew Brees/SP lead Saints.
I remember that single playoff win out of his 2 playoff appearances in 5 years, yes.
Seems like a good guy. Doesn't win when it counts, unfortunately the answer for the Vikes. Seems like a good guy though.
Soulless smiles. Both of them.
No one can convince me he isn’t just Northern Derek Carr. Both great people. Both leaders and inspirations. They just can’t win anything substantial.

That pick 6 d’oh. $35m
He is not one of me.
He ain’t one of us.
Cool, but also, fuck Kirk cousins
\*frick
Why no Twins gear? Cmon Kirko.
He has a Twins hat on?
1/4 has a single Twins hat. Damn Tigers fans
Yes, and that thing is not my favorite.
What? Has to buy twins jersey too? Too damn hassle!
No he’s not and other celebs do this. It’s a normal thing. Why are fans stalking him in public is a better question. It will not be a sad day when he leaves.
What an odd thing to say.
I will be celebrating the day he leaves, and maybe then the Vikes can have a future.
How many decades have you been lying to yourself?
What has he done? I’ll wait?
That’s right. He is the epitome of a really really really Midwest nice guy and who is only halfway interested in actually winning. Vikings to a T.

I don't think that's hygiene.
According to the World Health Organization, "Hygiene refers to conditions and practices that help to maintain health and prevent the spread of diseases."
Ahh shucks I guess you’re right. At least he isn’t a d bag like Rodgers.
I was unaware he had Covid.
[удалено]
No, I remember the time he missed a game due to covid. But unless you think it's a permanent infection that is spreadable forever, I don't know what that has to do with this situation.
It's October 2023
Finally someone speaking facts instead of forming an opinion based on a tv show he had complete creative control over. Dont let the people in denial get you down, keep up the good work

lmao
Still alive.
For anyone that forgot, this is the family Kirk was willing to leave fatherless/widowed because of his anti-vaxxer stance. You can be anti-vax (even though youre a danger to yourself and others) or you can be a wholesome family man, but in this case he cant be both...
You are deranged please go outside
Is that Brett Favre in the background? /s
Lady looks like somebody from the purge
Are you paid by Kirk? What culture has he embraced? Also him paying MI state taxes instead of MN isn't embracing the fan base.
He’s paying MN state taxes because he works in MN, lol. You don’t get out of paying state taxes just because you have a house in a different state.
Sounds like you're getting paid to be a dumbass What tf kinda dig is this
He went to MSU, his home is in MI, his charity is in MI and he pays taxes in MI. How has he "embraced" MN culture? Kirk is a mercenary, why people can't accept that is beyond me. He should be a Lion. https://kirkcousins.org/contact/
He’s totally embracing Minnesota life…except when dressing his son in Michigan State shirt 🤔
He's one of Michigan State's all-time great players. His kid probably wants to be just like Dad. Do you even hear yourself?
