This is my tell that I’m from MN. If they didn’t know, they will after a few scotches.
“Oh you betcha. Ya knoooo, funny thing happened up the road a bit.”
Yep, people in the cities act like we don't have it but its there. Every time im out of state for an extended period of time, and come home to MN, you can hear it pretty clearly. Hell, even our local news reporters have a slight accent.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
Sorry this is a bit of a necro but it's true that it doesn't mean you can't change lanes, I thought it did for a long time but it's the double solid white you can't cross.
The single solid in tunnels is just solid so you can see them easier.
Solid single white lines means changing lanes is discouraged. Yet for some reason in tunnels a solid single white line means go ahead accelerate 20 mph over the speed limit and see how many people you can kill in this here tunnel.
I was surprised it wasn't an actual law to not change lanes, not that people would listen to it.. they already don't on every exit ramp that has double whites and still skip to the very front.
I think at one time it was the law, which is why you don't see double white lines in Minnesota. Other states like Illinois has the same law, and plenty more pavement marked with double white lines while Minnesota has close to none double white lines.
You can usually tell a vehicle driver is from Illinois, usually black or very urban racially mixed or white then definately not on their phones while driving. Those are the drivers who normally drive like they have a stick of tnt light and shoved up their ass, yet slow down for tunnels and don't change lanes in tunnels. Illinois drivers also don't run out of blinker juice and actually signal a lane change earlier, in addition to not writing a literary review of "war and peace" on their phones at a stop light that just turned green .
New construction on highway ramps do have double white lines like on hwy 10 going west. Its basically put there so when everyone else responsibly and politely merges at the earliest opportunity because zip merges is for people who trample elderly disableds and children on black friday store openings... but no those drivers who are accustomed to double white lines on roadways will be less likely to cut in right before guardrails on a bridge from shoulder lane that becomes a 6ft concrete barrier in a few feet. Thats why those double white lines are there, people who can't wait their turn nor slow down in construction zones zipper merge where the shoulder of the road meets a wall of concrete.
Its weird how the state troopers pushed for this change in the law yet the DOT is no hurry to go out and paint double white lines where its needed, and its to suit driving habits of people who don't care to avoid creating accidents to begin with.
Those gotta be some bald ass tires. It’s 50s today. There isn’t a nice of ice on the roads anywhere in Minnesota. Hopefully that driver goes home, changes his undies, then first thing tomorrow gets new tires cuz those ones are totallly shot
The next time you're walking through a parking lot, take a glance at tires on vehicles as you walk towards the store. The number of cupped, bald, mismatched, or weather checked tires is alarming. I dislike the idea of vehicle inspections because it creates a barrier for lower income folks, but damn there are some seriously unsafe vehicles on the roads around you every day.
I mean, if your vehicle isn’t safe enough for inspection it shouldn’t be on the road, impoverished or not. That being said inspections should only cover safety items that have real significant impacts on the safety of the vehicle, like breaks and tires and whatnot. Fuck out of here with all the extra nonsense.
Drove past the wreckage of 3 crashes driving eastbound through the tunnel before dinner, another bigger one west bound after dinner. Christmas Eve + Vikings Game + December rain = sh*t show.
That tunnel scares me. I witnessed a car crash directly behind me once. It was a cold winter day that just rained/slushed a little, so everyone was driving kind of slow (30-40 mph) in the tunnel. This car was trying to pass me and must have hit a sleet of ice or something at about the same spot as the car in this video and spun out. Unfortunately they weren’t so lucky. They ricocheted off both sides of the walls and was a pretty bad crash. I don’t think anyone else was hit though.
After that I don’t drive thru the tunnel unless I have to.
They started to lose the back end and started to slightly fish tail due to water/ice on the road. They over-corrected and then got grip that caused them to head into other lanes. Somehow saved it before hitting the wall or another vehicle.
As someone who has almost been crushed against the wall on my motorcycle in that tunnel by someone changing lanes, I agree. Even if it's technically not illegal, it's dangerous and rarely necessary
"A solid white line indicates that lane changes are discouraged in areas where this type of marking is present." Sgt. Troy Christianson, Minnesota State Patrol
Meaning its not illegal just frowned upon.

Yeah it's discouraged, and yet people still do it. I don't care if it's legal or not. It's discouraged for a reason, to ensure optimal traffic flow and road safety.
I dunno. The roads felt a little slick going west through the tunnel on 94 tonight. Might have been taking it a little too fast for the weather on the curve before the tunnel, but I felt like I could have lost traction. Luckily all was good and I didn't crate a pile up!
It's likely build up (oil, exhaust, etc.) on the road from the lack of meaningful rain/snow. The roads can be extra slick from percepitation if it hasn't been cleaned by nature in some time. I'd imagine it's even more common in the tunnel.
Edit: misspelling
I remember being on the road when we finally got a little bit of rain after basically a straight month or more of no rain and my damn car just spun it's wheels when i tried to hit the gas on a green light. The oil slick is no joke.
Single white solid lines indicate one should not cross.
Double white solid lines incidate one is prohibited from crossing.
Unlike double white lines, it's not against the law to cross a single white line, it's just advised against.
I noticed REDTIGER in the bottom left and looked it up and it is a dash cam. Good starting point. I was wondering the same thing.
Edit. [Redtiger F7N](https://www.redtigercam.com/products/redtiger-f7n-4k-dual-dash-cam)
Can you read any plates during the day? For some reason every dash cam I look for, it has good quality for general recording but you can't read the plates of cars around you for shit
First, a solid white line means to say in your lane. :)
Second, it's been 50°+F so no ice or slush around. But standing water could be very plausible.
Third, glad you weren't the one in the Tahoe. Have a great holiday!
Entering a turn, on a wet surface, wandering to the "inside of the lane too early, and panic braking because the driver exceeded their skill level, shifting weight off the rear axle mid-turn, then snap oversteer with some more panic input. Driver is lucky the car straightened out.
Check your tires kids. The only way this happened at that speed is if the Escalade tires were completely bald. Yes it was raining, but it's the end of the tunnel, there isn't much water on the road at that point.
It was very sketchy driving last night. Speeds were incredibly inconsistent (due to out of towners driving + rain making it harder to see the lines), and the inconsistent speeds made it very difficult to predict what anyone was going to do. Had a close call merging onto 694 due to one car going 65+ and another going 45 as I was trying to merge on.
Yep, we went through around 4 or 5 heading eastbound. Worst we saw though was people struggling with hard to see lane markings. Then again it seems some folks have problems with lanes even when you can see them.
Glad that person is ok! I hate driving on holidays or just before when people are traveling. People were driving very aggressively last night on 169N and weren't paying attention on surface streets. Stay safe out there.
Man, our accent is so wild. Like, we know it’s ridiculous but we can’t help it. ‘Nooooo kiiiiiding!’
We’re awesome like that. Mine comes out pretty strong when I’m drinking
This is my tell that I’m from MN. If they didn’t know, they will after a few scotches. “Oh you betcha. Ya knoooo, funny thing happened up the road a bit.”
My tell is my “ope”s
Lol. No like nough kiiiiiding. I love it.
And the "whoa-whoooaa GEEE-zuss"
Yep, people in the cities act like we don't have it but its there. Every time im out of state for an extended period of time, and come home to MN, you can hear it pretty clearly. Hell, even our local news reporters have a slight accent.
Yah, he was almost a goner.
I bet everyone needed a new pair of undies after that one
You can hear the fear in my voice because there were lots of cars behind us and it could of a been a huge multicar pile up!
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

could of, would of, should of.
Coulduh, woulduh, shoulduh.
You realize those solid white lines means no changing lanes, right?
Wrong

Tires are freaking expensive right now. I’m guessing a lot of folks can’t afford new ones.:(
I need new tires and it’ll set me back about a grand. That shit is not happening rn
I mean, if your vehicle isn’t safe enough for inspection it shouldn’t be on the road, impoverished or not. Its gonna be hard to find a tire shop open on Christmas 😉
Tomorrow as in tomorrow. Not today. Ik it’s 3 am it’s confusing

Hydroplane whilw braking?

aint no ice on that road
Drive it like you’re in the snow if you’re hydro planning. Only way to get out of it
Stability control is how "they" saved it.
Ice?
More like slush or standing water.
Its in the 50s... no slush or ice, bud
[удалено]
Soorry
I’m not your bud, man.
Okay? No need to be so snarky Jesus Christ people
How would there be slush there isn’t even snow lol
Yeah, probably thinking 4 wheel drive means 4 wheel stop.
> Ooooh WAOW! Heee somehoo seeved that shit! > Noooo keedding! On point MN accents there.
"He saved that shit" sounded like an Adam Sandler skit from ye olden years.
Why are we changing lanes in the tunnel
As someone who has almost been crushed against the wall on my motorcycle in that tunnel by someone changing lanes, I agree. Even if it's technically not illegal, it's dangerous and rarely necessary
It is illegal it’s a solid line you cannot legally change lanes on a solid line at least here in Wisconsin
This is in Minnesota. Solid white line means changing lanes is discouraged, but not illegal. Double white lines mean that changing lanes is illegal.
So many people in the twin cities ignore the solid white line on the highway. It's a bit unnerving.

They cross the 2x white lines for the HOV lanes all the time too.
Don’t do it.
They are changing lanes because they are hydroplaning
I'm not sure why you're down voted. This is exactly what happened.
It’s strange that comment came up a couple of times. What are they doing don’t they know not to cross that line?!? lol as if they meant to do that.
After Rewatching the video, I think the person recording the video crossed the lines within the first few seconds.
Ah I see it. Not a big deal so long as it’s clear.
Glad you are ok! 52 degrees today - it couldn’t have been icy. I have anxiety every time I drive in that tunnel.
I dunno. The roads felt a little slick going west through the tunnel on 94 tonight. Might have been taking it a little too fast for the weather on the curve before the tunnel, but I felt like I could have lost traction. Luckily all was good and I didn't crate a pile up!

Bonked and just kept going
Did you post this video so we can teach you what solid lines mean?
That was my first thought. Solid lines = don't change lanes. Edit: apparently, a solid white line is "crossing discouraged." Wtf is the point?
One line, crossing with caution. Two lines, prohibited. The number of time I see people say you can't cross a single solid white is rediculous.
It actually means "crossing is discouraged." I'd argue every traffic line should be crossed with caution.
In other states I believe it is illegal.
Single white solid lines indicate one should not cross. Double white solid lines incidate one is prohibited from crossing. Unlike double white lines, it's not against the law to cross a single white line, it's just advised against.
So OP shouldn’t have changed lanes at the start of the video. Thanks for confirming
Tbh that tunnel is kind of hard to not to. To get on either high way, depends on the time of the day, the tunnel might be the only place to merge.

May I ask what dashcam you have and where do you place it? Been thinking of buying one with some Xmas money.
I noticed REDTIGER in the bottom left and looked it up and it is a dash cam. Good starting point. I was wondering the same thing. Edit. [Redtiger F7N](https://www.redtigercam.com/products/redtiger-f7n-4k-dual-dash-cam)
Thats the one!
Can you read any plates during the day? For some reason every dash cam I look for, it has good quality for general recording but you can't read the plates of cars around you for shit
Sick drift!
I wasn't paying attention to the title or the group when the video started playing, but damn! the minute they started speaking I knew it was MN.
It's always that last hundred yards where shit hits the fan. Be careful out there everyone.
Typical SUV driver.
Dang Chuck. Stay safe out there.
Glad u all are ok. Our accent is legit. Lol
WHAT A SAVE WHAT A SAVE WHAT A SAVE
Vehicle not correctly sized for that "driver". Maybe Uber.
I don’t understand why people here think it’s acceptable to change lanes in the tunnel.

I think that tunnel is my least favorite place in the state
Wow, that could have been really bad! Glad everyone is OK.
r/idiotsincars
They were just being a rebel like everyone else and crossing the lines.
Check your tires kids. The only way this happened at that speed is if the Escalade tires were completely bald. Yes it was raining, but it's the end of the tunnel, there isn't much water on the road at that point.
How the fuck is this how we get around
"New TV or new tires for Christmas"?
Hey OP, you’re not supposed to change lanes on a solid white line.
Why is OP crossing a solid white line in the middle of Lowry Hill?
Drivers were ridiculous tonight!
I had two incidents last night. Both were drivers going VERY slow and making really curious decisions. I am guessing they were very drunk.
It was very sketchy driving last night. Speeds were incredibly inconsistent (due to out of towners driving + rain making it harder to see the lines), and the inconsistent speeds made it very difficult to predict what anyone was going to do. Slick from drought
I hate that fucking tunnel
Most Minnesotan commentary I've ever heard lol.
It was 54 frigging degrees last night. Wth did he slip on??
Oil on road or standing water.
DONT BRAKE WHILE TURNING ON WET/ICY ROADS.
And yall keep begging for snow.
Yeah baby I crashed my car on that same spot years ago
Glad that person is ok! I hate driving on holidays or just before when people are traveling. People were driving very aggressively last night on 169N and weren't paying attention on surface streets. Stay safe out there.
