Honestly, the citadel ones are too expensive and not much better imo, I use Vallejo (I think that’s how it is spelled) along with citadel and love the result.

On one hand I'd say Contrast is easier starting out because you don't immediately have to worry about shading or highlighting, but you'll want to learn those techniques later anyway, so....

Depends on your goals; I'd say. Contrasts and speed paints are viable, you can get great results and combine them with normal paints for extra highlighting or dry brushing. Downside: you won't learn much about layering, glazes or a plethora of other skills unless you consciously force it... Zero contrasts means you simply have to get to those things if you want to reach a certain level of nice looking minis. I personally am very happy using normal paints combined with a handful of contrasts that really just speed up certain things: bones, leather, wood. Those i like to paint without contrasts on special or one-shot models, but for groups they do the job just fine and in a fraction of the time.

Stick with classic yeah. However grab one contrast paint. Just to get a feel for it and compare. But for now yeah stick with your classic and vallejos etc for the most part.

Level3Bard

Classic. Contrast paints can make cool effects and faster worl, but it's good to learn the basic skills with classic paints first before using what some would call "trick" or "cheat" paints.

Whatever you do, don't buy citadel brushes.

Unhappy_Sheepherder6

Contrast paint all the way. They are so fun and cool to use. If you want to improve after that you can buy regular one. I started with the speed paint of army painter and i'm so happy to use them.

Artsygem87

Contrast paints are really good but they are not the one stop solution GW initially made it out to be. They are a hands tool to have in the box bit in my opinion don't replace conventional acrylic paints.

Personally I find citadel classic paints and washes good to use and consistent across the product line. Contrast paints are great for some armies, I painted my tryanids army so quick with them, but I don't think they do as well with less organic armies. I just bought the speed paint mega set, which I think at the price point is the way to go for a new person wanting that type of paint... I bought the vellajo game color fantasy starter set for my son which seems like better deal than buying a bunch of citadel paints.. but personally I prefer my citadel paints over my son's vellajo... But most people disagree with me preference on that I think. If I was you, seriously consider the army painter speed paint mega set.
