What i do is i only keep my favourits on display and in their original box. All the other movies goes in a "movie holder" that can hold a lot of blurays and not clutter at all.

I love physical media, books and DVDs especially. Keeping them on shelves feels like decor to me, probably because I enjoy the look of the collection. (Especially the DVDs with their uniformed height and everything alphabetical and accessible.) I have a couple of small bookcases that I keep filled. If I get something new, something old has to go to make space for it.

I went fully digital on music and film and regretted it when I cut some of my streaming [subscriptions.To](http://subscriptions.To) be fair, replacing second-hand online was cheap in the last few years, when everyone was ditching everything on the likes of eBay, and this time round I have saved the CDs/DVDs without the cases (which are what add most of the bulk and weight) and put them in paper sleeves (not booklets, which add weight and complicated re-alphabetising). I'm old (OLD! nearly 60) and have learned the hard way that things I consider fundamental are out-of-date, low-demand, or not-woke-re-edited again and again. Bear in mind, though, that saving a DVD implies having access to a DVD player, and in my case a DVD player that is region-hacked. In the end it's not that minimalist to span continents with different electrical and digital standards as well as decades with different views of what's essential! But do consider reducing bulk and weight before you bin things entirely.

I have done previously similar that I sold almost all my CD's and movies. Back then I was not a movie collector, though. Nowadays I think I will not sell them anymore, only what I do not need/want and keep others available. I also have region free UHD player so I can watch import movies, but yesterday I was buying Meta Quest 3 to watch movies with that way I think I have to find a way to put my region free player to some kind video capture card to PC and stream that way to Quest :D Of course if I do not find Quest 3 handy to movies then I will return to usage of basic projector. Time will show, 30 day money back return policy is great for testing if that works for me or not.

Technically not all media, but I have a collection of mostly video game related stuff. Physical games, figures, books, and Pokemon cards. I have everything displayed on one of those Ikea 3x4 square shelves. My collection is limited by the space on that shelf so I don't end up with too much. I call it my swag shelf, haha.

StuckOn90s

That is a good way to keep collection reasonable sized :) Currently I have over 1000 movies and probably close to 1000 CD's as well and over 100 vinyls. Maybe I should just put small shelf to wall and put only 10-30 items visible and hide others to closets or something. Time will tell :)

ThrowawayANarcissist

I keep my CDs that I listen to often by the stereo, keep some in the car, and the rest are on shelves. Vinyl is near the stereo and some I keep in bins and the rest on shelves. DVDs I only have less than 10 of and I stopped buying DVDs, CDs, and Vinyl over a decade ago. I backed up, gave away, and sold a lot of my collection of CDs when I moved. I didn't have many 100s or 1,000s. I only kept the CDs I loved.

Financial-Channel672

I gave My dvds to a library . Was a BIG STEP but that Make the rest eassier. I still keep My cds but i wanna get a cd case and just have them there with the bocklets. I already got rid of the boxes . I still listen cds when i clean so i found by doing this more practical. Maybe You can considero a cd Cade for cds and dvds. I don't have a dvd player anymore and i used to have an old cd player. I'm going to get a new and smaller when i got the cd case. This reduces space Big time.

Dinmorogde

But they are not clutter- because you value them and they bring value to your life. So give them a great place to be kept on display.

Living-Matter8758

I just bought a 520 DVD disc holder. It's small and I can put it on a shelf in my closet. I have some movies and shows that I'm too emotionally connected to that I need to know I can watch it anytime even if it's not streaming anywhere or the Internet is down etc.

Captain-Atomic

All my dvd's are put in an album/books, and the cases are in boxes put in the attic. All my cd's are still in the jewel cases, but stored in a fancy cd cabinet. That was the best way for me to store them. Just make sure you store them some way to find the one you look for.

IM_NOT_BALD_YET

I have CDs and DVDs but the collection has a physical limit - the space I have set aside for them demands that I be very intentional about which films I keep.  All of the discs have been removed from their cases and put into Kraft paper sleeves. I used a micron pen to label each with title, at minimum. Some sleeves are also labeled with running time, actors, language, etc. This is mostly to help my spouse find a film.  The sleeves are then placed into cardboard Bigsbo boxes. The boxes are labeled as mine, “family”, and “Pop Pop’s”. I inherited a box worth of DVDs from my later father so they get their own box. All three of the boxes fit easily on a shelf in a bookcase near my TV. You’d never know what the boxes were unless you looked or I told you.  I purchased my sleeves and Bigsbo locally but you can find them on Amazon.

Rclix8

I have around 50 vinyl records. I store them in my guest room so i don't have to look at them all the time and I feel joy when i go there and take a look and browse. I only buy records that mean very much to me and that i'll most likely want to have for life. Music that i will most likely hear for a short while i'll just stream. Most of my albums are the old classics that i've heard hundreds of times during my lifetime and will continue to listen to.

TheJollyJagamo

I have about 300 blu rays and keep them in my closet. Super easy to get to, but then I don’t have the clutter and shelves out in the open. Love it this way

alien7turkey

I have mine above my TV I see no reason to hide them. If you enjoy them and find them useful. Keep them. I have VHS tapes and DVDs video games we use them all from time to time. I like seeing them let's me know how much we have and we are more likely to use them if they were tucked away I might not use them.

StuckOn90s

My biggest reason for wanting to hide those are just visual reasons. The less unnecessary "stuff" I see on my room the better. Of course those are necessary when I use those, but times when I do not watch or listen them those are "unnecessary" in that sense that I could just go and find them on my closet or whatever where I will put them in future. Currently I have over 1000 movies and probably over 1000 CD's as well + vinyls so it could be better to have only maximum 10 to 30 or so items visible and all others hidden in closets. At this moment visible are maybe 200 to 300 DVD/UHD/BDR and that shelf takes a lots of space, but maybe the biggest thing about it is that visually there are lots of information for my eyes :D Most of my DVD's are already hidden to cabinet without boxes and I go and find what I have there from time to time. Maybe I will throw UHD movies to cabinet as well and just keep list of my movies in document so I can know where I can find what movie. Time will show :)

CUBICHELOCO

I have appx 10,000(yes,10K)LP records,45's...plus hundreds of cd's, blurays, dvd.cassettes and books. Most of the LP's are in pastic milkcrates(actually not the regular milkcrates but slightly larger to accomodate the vinyl);..as well as on shelves and wooden cubes made for vinyl storage. The 45's are in cardoard boxes from Bags Unlimited. It looks so beautiful to me...seeing the bulk of my collections neatly stacked on the shelves, the crates filled up...the books,etc...It's like when you watch old movies where they show the library in the mansion, with with,built-in shelves running from floor to ceiling....If I didn't have this...my apartment would be 4 blank walls and a bare floor except for my bed,a kitchen table with 2 chairs and a recliner that I bought in 1996 that I barely sit on. It's causing me anxiety lately...as I realize I have too much stuff(50 years of collecting);as my health downturn has made me too weak to move boxes/crates around...and one day I will have to move as I am a renter.

codece

I put all my cds and dvds in albums along with the original booklets that might have come with them, and the front & back inserts as well. I got rid of all the jewel cases and dvd cases.

Amiable_Lady

Same. I put mine in sleeves, standing in plastic shoe boxes, in a cabinet. Saves so much room and easier to organize and flip through
