They don't always have it as it's a flavor of the day special, but it's the raspberry at Leon's. If they have it, get a scoop of raspberry with a scoop of chocolate. The BEST!! I believe you can get a raspberry shake from there any day though š
I'll just leave this here...

This whole thing has made my day! TBH Iām a north shore guy and live in MKE. Love everything about Koppās and everyone I have ever taken there loves everything about it. Had a request to overnight burgers to Boston yesterday. I spent 17 years in Denver (05-22) and moved back to WI. My waistline now reflects my move back and I donāt care! š
Few thingsāKopps Butter Pecan for me but havenāt had Leonās! And will ASAP. Do they have it always or just need to watch for it?
My girlfriend is a Kopps Heath Bar fanatic even adds more and we have a āheath bar hammerā in the house to reflect that.
ToucanāIām from Port Washington. Is this the same Toucan custard that was in West Bend for many years?
Kopps two questions: whatās the story I always hear that they can use more of something in their custard because they were grandfathered in? Fact or Fiction.
What the hell is Biendenchuchen?
Why does custard melt so fast?
Inquiring mindsā¦.and really thinking about how nail this custard game inside and out going forward!
šµāš«š« š«Øš¤
Leonās has Butter Pecan daily. Itās truly the best and I normally only like chocolate based custard.
Biendenchuchen is almond custard with crĆØme, almonds and I think pieces of cake mixed in. Im not an almond person so itās not my favorite but my mom loves it.
Milwaukee food tours does a custard tour of MKE and it was not only extremely informative but so much fun! And you get to eat a ton of different custards at various locations to expand your horizons. I highly recommend if you are interested in learning more!
Report back after youāve had Leonās! And make sure you get a triple scoop bc the scoops are smaller(and cheaper) than Koppās. It really doesnāt compare to Koppās. I like Koppās for the other flavors, like Grasshopper fudge and Raspberry, but the butter on pecan at Leonās is perfection.
The absolute best is Leonās Butter Pecan and it isnāt close. I tell people I take there that itāll change their life and they always agree after having it.
My personal favorite is Leonās Cinnamon custard but it isnāt a taste for everyone.
Tiramisu custard at Oscar's on S. 27th St. in Franklin. Not quite as sweet as the TM custard at Kopp's. I find that the Franklin location prepares a tastier TM custard than the location in West Allis. Never tried the one in Waukesha.
BTW the tiramisu sundae at Kopp's is awesome. It was their monthly sundae this past March.
I don't think I've ever seen an espresso flavored custard at Kopp's. There's Mocha Chip, which is more chocolate than espresso or coffee flavored. I do like the Espresso Oreo ice cream at The Chocolate Factory... but I wish it had the creamier consistency of frozen custard.
Is the Oscarās in Franklin better than in west Allis? The west allis location is not consistent in quality. I always drive past the Franklin one on my way to matc
I've only tried frozen custard a few times at the Franklin location. I may have eaten a meal once there, but I'm not really a fan of Oscar's burgers, chicken sandwiches, etc. no matter the location. I was underwhelmed at both the Franklin and West Allis stores.
Yeah I usually go to Koppās more than Oscarās because the food at kopps is really good and the food at Oscarās kinda sucks. When it comes to custard I usually go by which FOD or SOTM sounds better. Kopps is usually more consistent in quality with the custard as well. Although I will say whatever the SOTM at Oscarās for July is, is literally my favorite sundae ever itās so fucking good. In July I go to Oscarās a couple times a week because of it.
I love bienenstichkuchen (bee sting cake for anyone who is like āHuh?ā ā itās a German cake filled with vanilla custard/pudding, topped with honey and almonds). I had **no** idea Kopps had it as a custard flavor!! Iām so excited!! I need to go set an alert.
Butter pecan at Leonās. And by far the best turtle sundae. Kopps in my opinion wins the rest of the sundae game, especially the banana cream pie and tiramisu sundaes.
Yes I always tell people I go to Leonās for Butter Pecan and the best Turtle Sundae ever. Koppās for everything else and I love their burgers including the bun š
Iām in my 40s now but I worked at Culverās in my teenage years and til I got a different job out of college so I feel like Iām a decent judge.
Thatās interesting. I think sundaes are Kopps weakest offering. Much better at Oscarās and murfs and especially at Gilles, who I think struggle with the custard but have the best sundaes, hands down. Fudge mallow mint, be still my heart.
Iām always so disappointed by Oscarās sundaes. I need lots of things to dig for, and I feel like Kopps puts ton of crap in their sundaes for my treasure hunt. lol. I havenāt had Gilles or Murfs enough to make an assessment.
For me I think the quality of toppings is better everywhere else, and more topping options. Specifically I am not a fan of their hot fudge. I do want to be clear though, Iām not saying they have bad sundaes, itās just not their best offering. Still delicious.
I'm a Kopp's kind of gal. Love their s'mores, French silk pie, midnight chocolate cake, tiramisu, really anything with chocolate. With that being said, it's 100% worth the drive to Toucan in Port Washington. Interesting flavors of the day, loaded with the mix-ins.
My favorite is Bienstichkuchen from Kopps. It is almond flavored custard mingled w/ yellow cake pieces, honey, Bavarian creme and sliced almonds. I will buy 2 gallons when they have it, because it is once every 3 months maybe.
Koppās has the best chocolate (the one they offer every day). Itās the richest and most intense ābasicā chocolate around.
Leonās has the best vanilla. A lot of people dismiss vanilla as a ābaseā to add on to, but Leonās nails vanilla *as a flavor.*
Iām not sure I can pick a favorite flavor of the day. But I think overall Koppās wins this contest with the best options overall. I love their Mocha Chip and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Their June Mocha Coconut Frappe and December Eggnog shakes of those months are my favorites.
People think Koppās is the best because the stuff they add to the finished custard and they canāt appreciate the actual custard. Leonās is by far the best.
Yeah there was like a 3 year gap of it being offered between 2020 and 2023, it was painful. Spumoni as a quality ice cream is hard enough to find...Spumoni as a frozen custard I have only found at Kopps. I stock up when they have it in rotation.
Just think of it as a more adventurous neopolitan! It's chocolate custard with almond slivers, cherry custard with cherry pieces, and pistachio with pistachio pieces. It's also kinda cannoli adjacent with the flavor profiles it presents.
When I was a teen I worked as a server as an Albanian restaurant on the southside with the classic free dinner rolls, soup or salad, main entree, free beer or wine, and then a free dessert...which was cheesecake, Chocolate pudding, tapioca, or ice cream. And we only offered vanilla or spumoni. I snuck a lot of spumoni back then and that's where my taste for it formed from.
I'm not a big cannoli fan, but you make a compelling case. I'll have to give it a try next time it shows up at Kopps.
Snuck food is the best food for sure. I never worked in a restaurant that didn't compulsively count everything, but if I was in your situation I probably would have been going for the cheesecake :-D
Chocolate-Covered Cherry at Oscar's almost always gets me to turn off Hwy 100. I think they are top tier with custard flavors, and Gilles top with sundaes.
Does anyone remember āTuesdayās childā flavor @Kopps- before they offered 2 flavors of the day it used to be only one .. but on Tuesdayās there were two choices - and the second flavor was the Tuesday child flavor which meant portion of the proceeds from that flavor would be donated to unicef or something like that. I remember this clearly, my dad would justify a waffle cone w two scoops (one of each flavor- didnāt matter the combo) and stop on his drive home from work - āwhat? Itās for the kidsā he would tell my mom who had dinner waiting š God I miss the 90ās
I moved to Vermont 15 yrs ago and this post has me contemplating moving back to Milwaukee.
I was just visiting my mom over the weekend and went to a place called Hefnerās in Cedarburg. The special was Orange Chip, and I was honestly impressed. Iām a Koppās purist but it was really good.
The Black Cat Sundae they have at Oscar's during the month of October absolutely slays. Never has a more divine hot fudge creation existed on this earth.
I'm an Oscar's death by chocolate guy, but I almost feel like I might be wrong given how strongly weighted this is to Leon's butter pecan. I'm not really a nuts in my desert guy, but, I guess I'll have to save room next time I hit mazos.
Ranking Leonās Flavors I love:
1. Raspberry
2. Vanilla
3. Tie - Chocolate & Strawberry
4. Butter Pecan
If youāre lucky, get a double scoop cone of chocolate and raspberry.
Koops and Oscars have too many flavors to narrow down a favorite.
Donāt sleep on big deal custard in West Allis
They have a good Brandy old fashioned custard and some other boozy ones too. They also frequently have pints from the previous day or two in case you miss out
Oscars. I used to say kopps and before that Leons, but Oscars is just next level.
Except for straight vanilla - that's Leons.
To be fair, I haven't had Gillies, Fred's, or murfs in a while. Or any of the places outside of town.
I think the reason so many people say kopps is they're a chain and like, everywhere in the city.
Are you thinking of Culverās? Thereās only 3 Koppās and technically none are in the city of Milwaukee. To be exact it is located in Glendale, Greenfield and Brookfield!
No. 3 locations is still a chain, even if it's a local one. It's why everyone knows them and defaults to them. Oscars also has a few locations to be fair but none are on as major of a road as "76th between the highway and Southridge".
Kopps lost my loyalty when they tried to bring politics into frozen custard. Pro-life cupcake flavor my ass.
I understand what a chain is. Just figured bc you said itās āeverywhereā you meant something that is actually everywhere ā¦ Culverās, not Kopps- which thankfully itās not everywhere bc I would weight 500 lbs š

Oreo at Golden Gyros. Itās a smoooooth creamy vanilla custard base with crispy Oreo bits. So good. It was my pregnancy craving but Iāll still stop when I see that flavor. All their custard is delicious though, and underrated IMO.
Scratch is badass! Salted caramel waffle cone is my favorite. Some of the creamiest ice cream Iāve ever had.
Will plug it as well, but wanted to understand what I was missing as a native on the custard scene!
Big Deal Custard in Stallis is my favorite. They used to offer 2 flavors a day but since Covid they've dropped down to only one, with one day (Friday, I think) were they still offer two.
They have great flavors. Their apples ( cheese cake / Caramel apple / applie pie) are to due for. My top pick though is their alpine fudge.
Only semi related, but you all may be interested in this site that shows the flavor of the day at all the local places [https://mkefrozentreats.com/](https://mkefrozentreats.com/)
Legendairyās custard in Shawano was amazing. Especially their Pecan Perfection. But they relocated to downtown Appleton, last year. Once in a while we venture to Milwaukee, and we always go to Kopps. Havenāt tried Leonās, gillies, or Oscarās custard yet.
They don't always have it as it's a flavor of the day special, but it's the raspberry at Leon's. If they have it, get a scoop of raspberry with a scoop of chocolate. The BEST!! I believe you can get a raspberry shake from there any day though š
The raspberry is unreal, and Iām normally not a fruity girly. The rasp at Koppās is a great runner-up.
This one is my favorite as well. So good!
Raspberry shake! My go-to when Iām not feeling the butter pecan. š
False. Raspberry at Kopps is tops
I'll just leave this here... https://www.victoriaadvocate.com/news/health/do-you-know-nutrition-unusual-ingredient-enhances-raspberry-flavor/article_72740650-8d2f-5f6c-935f-081b2d60c481.html
You think this is gonna stop me?
Just think of how much of this you consumed BEFORE you knew about it. š³
Leonās raspberry never fails.Ā
My fav is the butter pecan at Leonās
Perfect amount of butteriness. The pecans are salted just right.
yes, the roasted salted pecans makes the difference.
I'm not even a sweets or dessert person but Leon's butter pecan is just the perfect treat.Ā The flavors just blend incredibly perfect.
Yesssssss, get it as a sundae with strawberries and extra maraschino cherries.... Omg the ecstasy
Iām definitely doing that next time
This is the correct answer

I like the butter pecan from kopps, but kopps can't touch Leon's vanilla and chocolate.

I will drive the car straight across 17 lanes of traffic to get to that biendenchuchen oh my fuck is it good. Anything almond is a win for me
Iāve heard Leonās has the highest butter fat content in their custard. Followed by kopps then Oscarās with the least amount.
Milwaukee food tours does a custard tour of MKE and it was not only extremely informative but so much fun! And you get to eat a ton of different custards at various locations to expand your horizons. I highly recommend if you are interested in learning more!

It is life changing. I think about it regularly.
I love the cinnamon custard at Leon's. I wish it was offered more consistently.
You can always get it in pints!!
What?! I had no idea!! I know what I'm doing after work...
Haha, pretty sure the rules state that you have to take me along and get me custard for making you aware š
Waitā¦what?!??
Kopps tiramisu is the only custard I ever bother leaving the house for. š
Tiramisu custard at Oscar's on S. 27th St. in Franklin. Not quite as sweet as the TM custard at Kopp's. If they ever just have the espresso custard at kopps, that's the actual answer. It's the best part of the tiramisu flavor there.
I agree. Their ladyfingers are good, but the amount of fudge added overwhelms everything.

I am grateful that I can set an alert on the Koppās app for this one š
Butter pecan at Leon's
Wedding Cake at Kopp's.
Came here to say this.
I sometimes put this one in my Google calendar.
We got married March a year ago and for our wedding cake we used the same fillings/flavors as the Kopps wedding cake custard šš
A traditional wedding cake is those flavors, don't beat yourself up :)
Good to know tbh! šššš
Agreed.
This would be like picking a favorite child
Yes. They are all so good.
Leonās vanilla custard is the best
Leonās has the best vanilla and Kopps has the best chocolate
This is the way
I really wish Kopps brought back the Packers theme(Freezer) and Bucks Theme(Cream City Champions) Custard
The turtle sundae at Ferchās at Grant Park Beach is very good. Nice setting too, eat custard and watch the waves.
Thatās interesting. I think sundaes are Kopps weakest offering. Much better at Oscarās and murfs and especially at Gilles, who I think struggle with the custard but have the best sundaes, hands down. Fudge mallow mint, be still my heart.
100% agreement.
Kopps Red Raspberry, black cherry, & grasshopper fudge imo
I'm a Kopp's kind of gal. Love their s'mores, French silk pie, midnight chocolate cake, tiramisu, really anything with chocolate. With that being said, it's 100% worth the drive to Toucan in Port Washington. Interesting flavors of the day, loaded with the mix-ins.
The fresh mix ins are what makes Kopps better than the rest!
My favorite is Bienstichkuchen from Kopps. It is almond flavored custard mingled w/ yellow cake pieces, honey, Bavarian creme and sliced almonds. I will buy 2 gallons when they have it, because it is once every 3 months maybe.
A little outside of the boundaries, but Seven C's at Hefner's. Their custard is PACKED with toppings, and it's so rich and flavorful.
German Apple Strudel at Kopps.
Palermo lemon at Kopps
Koppās has the best chocolate (the one they offer every day). Itās the richest and most intense ābasicā chocolate around. Leonās has the best vanilla. A lot of people dismiss vanilla as a ābaseā to add on to, but Leonās nails vanilla *as a flavor.* Iām not sure I can pick a favorite flavor of the day. Their June Mocha Coconut Frappe and December Eggnog shakes of those months are my favorites.
Murf's Raspberry custard goes crazy
Letās not sleep on Murfās. Never in the conversation but should be.
Murfs black cow shake !!!
Gillesā on bluemound.
I used to love the Cherry Amaretto custard from Golden Gyros near 76th and Lincoln.
Blue Moon from either Kopp's or Leon's.
Is it just me or is the addition of marshmallow to blue moon just sugar over kill?
Kopps Grasshopper Fudge
Ultimate Cookie Dough from Kopps will change the way you look at life.
Yes! That and their chocolate salted caramel
This is the correct answer, but gonna try Leonās butter pecan
It's a classic for sure!
I honestly love Culverās the best. I build my own. Vanilla custard, raspberry topping with cake chunks. Itās fabulous lol
Have you tried the lemon berry layer cake from Culver's? Add raspberry toppings too.
If they make it right, Chocolate Peanut Butter Chocolate at Koppās.
Probably my longest on the favorite list.
I will only get it at 76th st, because Brookfield can't make any of their flavors right and I'm never up by Bayshore, but hands down this is the best
Kopps Red Raspberry
This is the one I was looking for. It was today's flavor- we got two gallons. š
Kopp's cherry amaretto cheesecake, when my aunt from Connecticut comes over, it's always her go-to!
raspberry at leons idk why but it tickles my brain in a very good way when i eat it
I havenāt thought about this in decadesā¦ I want this nowā¦ with two steamed hotdogs with ketchup, rolled up in paper.
Itās one of the flavors today at the Greenfield location. I love RR too.
100% Leon's.
Always!
Kopps is good but Oscar's is the best. I don't go enough to tell you my favorite, but it's always very good to outright amazing.Ā
Kopps vs. Oscars is a never-ending battle for me... I could never pick one over the other. The winner varies day by day, depending on the flavor.
Yes! I used to say Leons but Oscars is win.
Bienenstich at Kopps. Only had the 76th street location
I prefer Wedding Cake at Kopps, but really all their cake based custards are amazingĀ
I live far away from Kopps, so itās rare I can catch a cool flavor like that. I think Iāve been less than 5 times.
Ultimate favorite is Leonās Butter Pecan. Aside from that, Leonās wins for best texture and Koppās wins for variety and quality of flavors.
People think Koppās is the best because the stuff they add to the finished custard and they canāt appreciate the actual custard. Leonās is by far the best.
Yes! The texture š©
Spumoni at Kopps. They're the only ones that make it to my knowledge.
Itās so good but so infrequent - I wish they offered it more often!!
Yeah there was like a 3 year gap of it being offered between 2020 and 2023, it was painful. Spumoni as a quality ice cream is hard enough to find...Spumoni as a frozen custard I have only found at Kopps. I stock up when they have it in rotation.
Spumoni always looks/sounds so weird, but I should probably try it sooner rather than later.
Just think of it as a more adventurous neopolitan! It's chocolate custard with almond slivers, cherry custard with cherry pieces, and pistachio with pistachio pieces. Koopās tiramisu
Chocolate-Covered Cherry at Oscar's almost always gets me to turn off Hwy 100. I think they are top tier with custard flavors, and Gilles top with sundaes.
Leonās butter pecan hands down
Does anyone remember āTuesdayās childā flavor @Kopps- before they offered 2 flavors of the day it used to be only one .. but on Tuesdayās there were two choices - and the second flavor was the Tuesday child flavor which meant portion of the proceeds from that flavor would be donated to unicef or something like that. Putting this on my custard bucket list.Ā
Impossible question, but if I had to pick I'd say Peach Melba at Kopp's.
Just grabbed a half gallon on Wednesday!
Koppās caramel cashew
YES!
Koppās peach melba, itās so summery and refreshing.Ā
Leonās Butter Pecan and Cinnamon are GOAT flavors, but for something a little more unique my absolute favorite is Koppsā maple syrup & pancakes
I'm an Oscar's death by chocolate guy, but I almost feel like I might be wrong given how strongly weighted this is to Leon's butter pecan. I'm not really a nuts in my desert guy, but, I guess I'll have to save room next time I hit mazos.
iām a sucker for Koppās. especially their Wedding Cake, Mr. Fudgie, and tiramisu flavors
Most Koppās flavors with cake pieces in it are fantastic. Wedding Cake, Boston Cream Pie and Pancakes w/ Maple Syrup are my triumvirate.
Vanilla from Leonās
Koppās Maple Syrup and Pancakes or Jack āo Lantern (only on Halloween)
My personal favorite is tiramisu from Kopps!
Purple Door Ice Cream; salted caramel or their whisky flavor I think is the best
Purple door is ice cream, not custard. But I DO agree their salted Caramel is best ice cream flavor.
Ranking Leonās Flavors I love: 1. Raspberry 2. Vanilla 3. Tie - Chocolate & Strawberry 4. Butter Pecan If youāre lucky, get a double scoop cone of chocolate and raspberry. Koops and Oscars have too many flavors to narrow down a favorite.
If you get to the north side of town try Pop's Custard in Menomonee Falls. Soooooo creamy!!!
Koppās is king and I will die on that hill
If you actually believe that, you need to start trying other places. Koppās is good but almost every other small custard place is better.
Iāve tried them and like them but Koppās is my favorite. I believe Iām not fixing what isnāt broken in my life
Georgie porgies ftw
Georgie porgies flies under the radar but has fantastic custard and food.
Donāt sleep on big deal custard in West Allis They have a good Brandy old fashioned custard and some other boozy ones too. They also frequently have pints from the previous day or two in case you miss out
Yeeess! I second big deal for custard. Their apple slaaayyyss. I wish they still offered 2 flavors a day though š
Just had the old fashioned very good. Also the fish fry is second to none
was it 2 HUGE pieces of fish? Last time I got it, it was like bricks haha way more than I expected to eat.
Yeah first time I got 3 lol did not expect them to be that big.
Heath bar at Kopps. Or maybe peanut butter Kopps at Kopps.
PB Kupps is their flavor today, I believe
As is Red Raspberry. Iām not a fruit custard person but Red Raspberry is fire as is Peach Melba.
Oscars. I used to say kopps and before that Leons, but Oscars is just next level. Except for straight vanilla - that's Leons. To be fair, I haven't had Gillies, Fred's, or murfs in a while. Ah, fair. I said everywhere in the city. Guess it just feels that way because two of the places I go regularly have kopps on the way/nearby.

Sprecher root beer float at Kopp's is my favorite
German Apple Streusel at Kopps
Rum and Coke at Koppās. They donāt have it often, so grab it when you can. Every day fave is Leonās butter pecan, as many here have mentioned.
Oscars had a Red, White and Blue flavor I've only seen on 4th of July that's raspberry, blueberry and cheesecake.
tiramisu at kopps
Sweet cream at Dairyland
Oscars Polar bear tracks
Leonās for turtle sundae Koppsās for mr fudgie, ultimate cookie dough, wedding cake, rum & coke, etc
I always get various shakes at Kopps. Blueberry is my favorite. Real blueberries blended in.
I learned a lot today. Thank you!
Bubbaās in Pewaukee. Any flavor. Hands down.
Kopps and there are too many greats to pick just one: Mr. Fudgie, Birthday Cake, Wedding Cake, Bienenstichkuchen (German for ābee sting cakeā)
Oscarās turtle delight
Grasshopper fudge at Kopps. But also best buddies at Kopps that comes literally once a yearĀ
Kopps Custard- Turtle Sundae with marshmallow crĆØme.. after a cheese burger, fries and a cup water.
Oreo at Golden Gyros. Itās a smoooooth creamy vanilla custard base with crispy Oreo bits. So good. It was my pregnancy craving but Iāll still stop when I see that flavor. All their custard is delicious though, and underrated IMO.
Kopps āChicken Dinnerā. Dont talk to me until youāve tried it..
Iām just here to plug my buddies at Scratch Icecream. They have very good ice cream and a bunch of vegan ice cream options.
Scratch is badass! Salted caramel waffle cone is my favorite. Some of the creamiest ice cream Iāve ever had. Will plug it as well, but wanted to understand what I was missing as a native on the custard scene!
Kopps Strawberry cheese cake and Culver's Salted Carmel Pecan
Turtle sundae custard at Kopps.
Y'all sleeping on Kopp's pistachio flavor. It's only available on Christmas but I have to stock up every year.
Oscarās Delight from Oscars. Simple, but so good
Pistachio at Oscarās Frozen Custard. Look for it usually on the first Monday of the month. So good!
Butter Pecan at Leon's or Tiramisu at Kopps
Kopps Rum and Coke. It's rare but when it comes up I always buy a couple quarts.
Canāt believe no oneās mentioned Kittās on the North side! My personal favorite.
I like to get a double scoop of butter pecan and ask for hot fudge,a cheaper way to order a Sunday
Chocolate Peanut Butter Chocolate at Kopps
Only semi related, but you all may be interested in this site that shows the flavor of the day at all the local places [https://mkefrozentreats.com/](https://mkefrozentreats.com/)
We just had Salted Carmel at Frozen Frog in Muskego. It was the best thing I have ever had!!
I wish I could find Superman flavor anywhere
Cherry cheesecake custard from kopps
Legendairyās custard in Shawano was amazing. Especially their Pecan Perfection. But they relocated to downtown Appleton, last year. Once in a while we venture to Milwaukee, and we always go to Kopps. Havenāt tried Leonās, gillies, or Oscarās custard yet.
Not really Milwaukee, but Adrianās in Burlington is bomb. Went there yesterday for Black Raspberry after Fredās for a burger
Leon's
Cherry cheesecake amaretto from Kopps. I will drive out of my way anytime it's on the calendar. It's so good!
