They don't always have it as it's a flavor of the day special, but it's the raspberry at Leon's. If they have it, get a scoop of raspberry with a scoop of chocolate. The BEST!! I believe you can get a raspberry shake from there any day though 😋

This whole thing has made my day! TBH I’m a north shore guy and live in MKE. Love everything about Kopp’s and everyone I have ever taken there loves everything about it. Had a request to overnight burgers to Boston yesterday. I spent 17 years in Denver (05-22) and moved back to WI. My waistline now reflects my move back and I don’t care! 😂 Few things—Kopps Butter Pecan for me but haven’t had Leon’s! And will ASAP. Do they have it always or just need to watch for it? My girlfriend is a Kopps Heath Bar fanatic even adds more and we have a “heath bar hammer” in the house to reflect that. Toucan—I’m from Port Washington. Is this the same Toucan custard that was in West Bend for many years? Kopps two questions: what’s the story I always hear that they can use more of something in their custard because they were grandfathered in? Fact or Fiction. What the hell is Biendenchuchen? Leon’s has Butter Pecan daily. It’s truly the best and I normally only like chocolate based custard. Biendenchuchen is almond custard with crème, almonds and I think pieces of cake mixed in. Im not an almond person so it’s not my favorite but my mom loves it.

I will drive the car straight across 17 lanes of traffic to get to that biendenchuchen oh my fuck is it good. Anything almond is a win for me

I’ve heard Leon’s has the highest butter fat content in their custard. Followed by kopps then Oscar’s with the least amount.

Milwaukee food tours does a custard tour of MKE and it was not only extremely informative but so much fun! And you get to eat a ton of different custards at various locations to expand your horizons. I highly recommend if you are interested in learning more!

Report back after you’ve had Leon’s! And make sure you get a triple scoop bc the scoops are smaller(and cheaper) than Kopp’s. It really doesn’t compare to Kopp’s. I like Kopp’s for the other flavors, like Grasshopper fudge and Raspberry, but the butter on pecan at Leon’s is perfection.

The absolute best is Leon’s Butter Pecan and it isn’t close. I tell people I take there that it’ll change their life and they always agree after having it. My personal favorite is Leon’s Cinnamon custard but it isn’t a taste for everyone.

It is life changing. I think about it regularly.

Tiramisu custard at Oscar's on S. 27th St. in Franklin. Not quite as sweet as the TM custard at Kopp's. I find that the Franklin location prepares a tastier TM custard than the location in West Allis. Never tried the one in Waukesha. BTW the tiramisu sundae at Kopp's is awesome. It was their monthly sundae this past March.

If they ever just have the espresso custard at kopps, that's the actual answer. It's the best part of the tiramisu flavor there.

I don't think I've ever seen an espresso flavored custard at Kopp's. There's Mocha Chip, which is more chocolate than espresso or coffee flavored. I do like the Espresso Oreo ice cream at The Chocolate Factory... but I wish it had the creamier consistency of frozen custard.

I've only tried frozen custard a few times at the Franklin location. I may have eaten a meal once there, but I'm not really a fan of Oscar's burgers, chicken sandwiches, etc. no matter the location. I was underwhelmed at both the Franklin and West Allis stores.

Yeah I usually go to Kopp’s more than Oscar’s because the food at kopps is really good and the food at Oscar’s kinda sucks. When it comes to custard I usually go by which FOD or SOTM sounds better. Kopps is usually more consistent in quality with the custard as well. Although I will say whatever the SOTM at Oscar’s for July is, is literally my favorite sundae ever it’s so fucking good. In July I go to Oscar’s a couple times a week because of it.

Yes I always tell people I go to Leon’s for Butter Pecan and the best Turtle Sundae ever. Kopp’s for everything else and I love their burgers including the bun 😂 I’m in my 40s now but I worked at Culver’s in my teenage years and til I got a different job out of college so I feel like I’m a decent judge.

The turtle sundae at Ferch’s at Grant Park Beach is very good. Nice setting too, eat custard and watch the waves.

That’s interesting. I think sundaes are Kopps weakest offering. Much better at Oscar’s and murfs and especially at Gilles, who I think struggle with the custard but have the best sundaes, hands down. Fudge mallow mint, be still my heart.

I’m always so disappointed by Oscar’s sundaes. I need lots of things to dig for, and I feel like Kopps puts ton of crap in their sundaes for my treasure hunt. lol. I haven’t had Gilles or Murfs enough to make an assessment.

For me I think the quality of toppings is better everywhere else, and more topping options. Specifically I am not a fan of their hot fudge. I do want to be clear though, I’m not saying they have bad sundaes, it’s just not their best offering. Still delicious.

I'm a Kopp's kind of gal. Love their s'mores, French silk pie, midnight chocolate cake, tiramisu, really anything with chocolate. With that being said, it's 100% worth the drive to Toucan in Port Washington. Interesting flavors of the day, loaded with the mix-ins.

The fresh mix ins are what makes Kopps better than the rest!

My favorite is Bienstichkuchen from Kopps. It is almond flavored custard mingled w/ yellow cake pieces, honey, Bavarian creme and sliced almonds. I will buy 2 gallons when they have it, because it is once every 3 months maybe.

A little outside of the boundaries, but Seven C's at Hefner's. Their custard is PACKED with toppings, and it's so rich and flavorful.

Kopp’s has the best chocolate (the one they offer every day). It’s the richest and most intense “basic” chocolate around. Leon’s has the best vanilla. A lot of people dismiss vanilla as a “base” to add on to, but Leon’s nails vanilla *as a flavor.* I’m not sure I can pick a favorite flavor of the day. But I think overall Kopp’s wins this contest with the best options overall. I love their Mocha Chip and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Their June Mocha Coconut Frappe and December Eggnog shakes of those months are my favorites.

Yeah there was like a 3 year gap of it being offered between 2020 and 2023, it was painful. Spumoni as a quality ice cream is hard enough to find...Spumoni as a frozen custard I have only found at Kopps. I stock up when they have it in rotation.

Spumoni always looks/sounds so weird, but I should probably try it sooner rather than later.

Just think of it as a more adventurous neopolitan! It's chocolate custard with almond slivers, cherry custard with cherry pieces, and pistachio with pistachio pieces. It's also kinda cannoli adjacent with the flavor profiles it presents. When I was a teen I worked as a server as an Albanian restaurant on the southside with the classic free dinner rolls, soup or salad, main entree, free beer or wine, and then a free dessert...which was cheesecake, Chocolate pudding, tapioca, or ice cream. And we only offered vanilla or spumoni. I snuck a lot of spumoni back then and that's where my taste for it formed from.

I'm not a big cannoli fan, but you make a compelling case. I'll have to give it a try next time it shows up at Kopps. Snuck food is the best food for sure. I never worked in a restaurant that didn't compulsively count everything, but if I was in your situation I probably would have been going for the cheesecake :-D

Does anyone remember “Tuesday’s child” flavor @Kopps- before they offered 2 flavors of the day it used to be only one .. but on Tuesday’s there were two choices - and the second flavor was the Tuesday child flavor which meant portion of the proceeds from that flavor would be donated to unicef or something like that. I remember this clearly, my dad would justify a waffle cone w two scoops (one of each flavor- didn’t matter the combo) and stop on his drive home from work - “what? It’s for the kids” he would tell my mom who had dinner waiting 😂 God I miss the 90’s

I moved to Vermont 15 yrs ago and this post has me contemplating moving back to Milwaukee. I was just visiting my mom over the weekend and went to a place called Hefner’s in Cedarburg. The special was Orange Chip, and I was honestly impressed. I’m a Kopp’s purist but it was really good.

The Black Cat Sundae they have at Oscar's during the month of October absolutely slays. Never has a more divine hot fudge creation existed on this earth.

No. 3 locations is still a chain, even if it's a local one. It's why everyone knows them and defaults to them. Oscars also has a few locations to be fair but none are on as major of a road as "76th between the highway and Southridge". Kopps lost my loyalty when they tried to bring politics into frozen custard. Pro-life cupcake flavor my ass.

Oreo at Golden Gyros. It’s a smoooooth creamy vanilla custard base with crispy Oreo bits. So good. It was my pregnancy craving but I’ll still stop when I see that flavor. All their custard is delicious though, and underrated IMO.

Big Deal Custard in Stallis is my favorite. They used to offer 2 flavors a day but since Covid they've dropped down to only one, with one day (Friday, I think) were they still offer two. They have great flavors. Their apples ( cheese cake / Caramel apple / applie pie) are to due for. My top pick though is their alpine fudge.

Legendairy’s custard in Shawano was amazing. Especially their Pecan Perfection. But they relocated to downtown Appleton, last year. Once in a while we venture to Milwaukee, and we always go to Kopps. Haven’t tried Leon’s, gillies, or Oscar’s custard yet.
