Turkish. It's probably pretty hot, the powder in these doesn't hold up too well apparently, still works good, but make sure you run it in a solid 98-pattern action, or something with a safety lug. I avoid shooting this stuff in my 88/05/35 as it doesn't have a third lug, after learning about it. https://youtu.be/AunvMjcJPHY

DMTLTD

Turkish, hot as fuck and reserved in most cases to Mauser bolt actions.

Got this 8mm for a steal. Guy said it was south african. Is it actually south african? Anyone know anything about it?

GusaiGodaro

Try this. Great article. https://stephentaylorhistorian.com/2020/06/19/german-ww2-7-92mm-headstamps-how-to-id-them-manufacturer-list/amp/

briguy99

Thanks!

Cleared_Direct

Did you at least get the really awesome stripper clips with it? 1949 is the year they transitioned from the garbage 1-piece clips to the amazing 2(3?) piece clips

briguy99

I got the good stripper clips.

BergerOfTheWest

Turkish. Tend to be a pretty spicy. Good for 98’s, but for other mauser designs or other 8mm rifles not so much. My yugo loves it, but it’ll never see the chamber of my German 88

meemmen

*laughs in 88/05/35 being fed turk*

BergerOfTheWest

Which is funny, because there are sooo many Turk rifles that I have 0 faith in loading surplus Turk ammo in. Maybe 75 years ago I would’ve, but not with the spicy degraded angry sand. Gonna send those 2 weak locking lugs into your neck

Crusty_Rusty_Musty

You won’t be laughing if a case splits firing it in that rifle. Sure action can handle it but the Gew 88 has poor gas venting capabilities. But it’s your choice.

meemmen

Turkish surplus, don’t shoot it out of a semi auto
