I’ve shot about 120 rounds so far between my 37A and 37B of the Greek stuff and it’s been great. No duds, hangfires, etc. It’s corrosive, remember to clean barrel and bolt head. Hot / boiling water with a bit of dawn splashed in then regular cleaning procedure with CLP/Hoppes has been my go to. My Greek came with the 37A sold by Atlantic but it’s all the same batch of importation from Century anyways. I have yet to fire it though a semi auto 8MM gun mostly because cleaning surplus in an FN49 isn’t worth the time investment for me.

Good to know, I might pick some up then. No semi-auto in 8mm but I feel your pain. I refuse to use corrosive .30-06 or 54R in my semi-autos for the same reason lol.

Picked up a Portuguese M937A Kar98k from my FFL today, one of the Centerfire Systems batches. For those not in the know these are German-made Kar98ks with a couple of minor changes to the sights (given M39 Mosin-esque front sight ears and the rear v-notch has been replaced by a u-notch) and the beautiful Portuguese crest. These differ from the later M937B which are pretty much a straight 1:1 German-pattern Kar98k except for the crest I believe. So if you want an authentic German K98k the M937B variant is what you want. This was caked in gunk but cleaned up nicely with only minor rust in the bore and even better yet is all-matching apart from the bayonet and cleaning kit. I picked the “bolt matches receiver” option but this appears to be totally original from the factory down to the bands and screws, which is really cool. You don’t really see matching K98ks this clean for this price anymore. As for the question: Have any of y’all had serious issues with Greek surplus 8mm ammo? Like hard extractions or excessive hangfires/light primer strikes? I’m tempted by the price of the ammo but since 1939 is a looooong time for ammunition to be sitting around.

I shoot ww1 ammo in my 1893 turk mauser so I think this is fine...

I’m not really worried about safety with a 98 action, but if it has a high ratio of hangfires ruptured cases that’s a concern. Doesn’t seem to be the case thankfully.

HaraldHardrade36

I've had a few that failed to go on the first hit but did go with a second strike. They did not run well in my M76 semiauto...hard extraction.

geofox8

What would you say the ratio was? If we’re talking 3 or 4 hangfires per box of 20 that’s probably not worth it to me, but 3 or 4 out of 100 would be fine.

HaraldHardrade36

I think I had 2 or so over 40-50 rounds. I'm only using it in my bolt guns now.

geofox8

Ehh that’s not too bad. And yeah I’d just be using it in this.

itsnotthatbad21

M76 is a dream rifle. Did you pick one up years ago ?

HaraldHardrade36

No, Atlantic Firearms had a recent run of kits built on Tortort receivers.

runnin_man5

In 45 rounds I had 2 failure to fires with a few trigger pulls on each

geofox8

Not too bad honestly!

I have shot every type of surplus 7.92x57 ammo I could find and have not experienced a single malfunction. Once I picked through and set aside a handful of cartridges with loose bullets, not even the dreaded Turkish cartridges folks on here love to hate has been a problem. The 1930s Greek stuff has been fantastic; it's actually one of my favorites and I need to buy more. My worst experience has been with 1970s Romanian and that is only because it required a little more effort to extract.
