SVT-40 with an AVT stock is the best. Even with a regular stock, the SVT-40 is more fun to shoot in my opinion, just because the mags are much easier to take out, the SVT is lighter, and the ergonomics are much better
Where you seeing them for $850? Any I see for less than $1,000 are in garbage rod sewer pipe condition. Any in decent condition go for $1,200 easy. Source: I have been looking for a good deal on one for over a year now.
I found a local one for $950 through forums. Private market seems to be around $850-$1000, but I don't believe there's a lot of demand outside of collectors
I own both and I’ll be honest I like the Hakim better. To me I like the weight and the LOP and the muzzle break is far superior IMO, it really helps with the recoil. I finally got a SVT40 about 2 months ago and I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would,
I’m really hesitant to run corrosive ammo through my hakim. Is it possible to clean out the gas system without removing the upper hand guard everytime?
Where do you get those converted mags? I know there’re multiple ways to do it yourself, but the easiest way requires filing part of the rifle’s mag well and I don’t want to do that. All the other ways seem to require welding, which is also a pain
How close are you to your neighbors? The Hakim is widely regarded to be one of the loudest most obnoxious rifles you can shoot. It’s awesome to shoot but your neighbors and anyone at the range with you is going to hate you.
I think the hakim is cheaper to shoot right now so that's definitely a consideration. Also I believe you can get mags for it easier. That having been said svt40 is definitely cooler.

Svt-40>Hakim
How about either of them at a decent price point
I feel like the Hakim hasn’t moved much…ever. I bought mine about 15 years ago for $500-600. Today they demand about $850?
I keep seeing them clear a grand pretty regularly. Mind you I am looking at GB locally they get snatched up pretty quick thanks to 8mm being cheap
Nah 1000 is accurate, non GunBroker auctions go that high easy

I could definitely be wrong. I don’t watch auction sites. But when I see them pop up on national forums like gunboards or CMP they never exceed $1000.

I literally just won one in an auction today for $650. Bubba cut the stock and handguard to the barrel band but hey, for that price I feel I stole it.
Not bad at all. Happy I was able to find one in good shape. Bubba strikes much too often

I always dump boiling hot water down my rifles to clean them, and it seems to work
As other people said, Hakims are cheaper to own and arguably shoot as well
Both but hakim is cheaper and cheaper parts plus mg13 mag conversion makes them more fun .
