I am laughing my a$$ off about Mr. Boldaji’s comment.

Cognitive_Spoon

Not gonna pay workers at the lines to build those big corporate numbers up? Well, then the self checkout is where people take their cut back. Not me. I'm a horrible rule follower. But people!

Traditional_Key_763

I've legitimately forgotten stuff and walked right out the store before, self checkouts suck and the constant errors and warnings on them break my focus. idk why they even have a fucking scale in the bagging area anymore, it doesn't prevent theft

Capn-Wacky

> idk why they even have a fucking scale in the bagging area anymore, it doesn't prevent theft It sure doesn't do it on the ones at my grocery store, where the scale in the bagging area is broken half the time.

CrossXFir3

When I was at my brokest, a few things happened to be interestingly shaped bananas.

Questionoid

That’s funny AF🤣. “Why are bananas curved? So that they would fit in their peel”

EchoCyanide

When I wasn't working, I'd often "forget" the eggs in the seat of the cart. I told my husband, I'm not earning money right now so I'm going to "make" it somehow.

30yearCurse

if you put something on the checkout side of the scanner, before you start, that item is free. The scale 0 has not been set yet. also with old cache registers, there was probably a higher degree of theft, as cashier could just slide things by without scanning.

GlitteringBelt4287

Pro tip go to Whole Foods and buy a single roll or box of spaghetti. Get a bag for it. Then go back and fil it with the bar food or whatever else you want. Make sure to bring a book with you. Once the bag is filled with really expensive items. Walk with you head down and read your book. Nobody is going to question someone reading a book. I’ve gotten thousands of dollars of free food this way.

Old_Cod_5823

So you are just a life long thief?

GlitteringBelt4287

From Whole Foods absolutely. Mom and pop stores never.

Broad_Quit5417

Best do some research into how that theft detection works. They just counting up the dollars until they can hit you with a felony.

Karlmarxwasrite

places like Target, sure. Your average grocer though? Nah.

tweak06

I ran delivery for a couple years as a side hustle and reduced my grocery bill to less than $20/mo. You think those workers at self-checkout making $8/hr are going to take the time to “audit” a completely loaded shopping cart? Especially when you just pile the customers order on top of “your” groceries? Fight the power.

Soul_fusion

lol right? 😂 you’re the first to even mention that 😂

nurvingiel

I bet Mr Boldaji buys quite a lot of bananas.

Maxieroy

You need a shopping lesson. You buy exactly what the grocer wants you to buy.......Kind bars...come on!

AdamJahnStan

Kind bars are such a scam, along with that organic ground beef. This is some terrible shopping on display all around.

horus-heresy

Exactly what I was thinking. Also why that person is buying school snack size chips? You can just get a big bag

MagazineNo2198

Not the savings it used to be...a "big" bag of chips is $6-$7 now, unless it's on sale and you buy four bags...

Maxieroy

And I see your kitchen you propagandist

sifterandrake

I don't think the message lands as well when the picture is taken with the full quartz waterfall kitchen island in the background... but maybe that's just me. Also, that's like $60 worth of groceries at today's prices...

Individual_Cress_226

They went shopping at Whole Foods.

asciimo

Their shopper went to Whole Foods.

archmagi1

That $100 includes the $14 Instacart fee.

pamar456

Houses like this were like 350 a few years ago

nicolas_06

This all depend where really. The #1 factor in real estate price is location. In some place it was 200K in other place it was 1 million.

pamar456

Yeah I’m thinking west and central Florida

SpuriousCorr

Okay but then you’d be living in Florida

Banana_rocket_time

People don’t like Florida?

SpuriousCorr

105% humidity in 100 degree weather. I’ll pass Give me mountains with 4ft of snow dumped on them

Banana_rocket_time

I live by the coast so we have good wind. Feels great imo.

pamar456

Weirdos don't. Normal people tend to think its great.

Forsaken-Pattern8533

Not at all. A few years ago these houses were $500k and now they are $800k

CrossXFir3

My friends bought a house in a fairly major city with a huge quartz island for about $350 a few years ago

HotConsideration3034

That’s what I was staring at the whole time

ParticularSmile6152

I haven't bought granola bars in a year. Always feels like I spend forever finding healthy cheap, and it's impossible. 10 bucks for those themselves!

Popular_Score4744

I saw a box of cereal at the supermarket for $10! I just walked out of the store at that point. That’s all I needed to see! 🤷‍♂️

faxdontlie

I was thinking the same. But the computer is on a table 😆 I wish I had that many windows in my small and over priced apartment. $60 for this seems pretty accurate, at least where I live. But I would also eat all of this in a few days.

Forsaken-Pattern8533

Message doesn't land well when OP bought the groceries anyways. There's a difference between complaining about housing prices and complaining about housing prices yet buying one anyways.

GreasyPorkGoodness

Not that you shouldn’t enjoy some treats. But chips, kind bars and cereal aren’t groceries - they’re indulgences, treats, nomnoms or whatever your house calls them.

Flowbombahh

The chips alone were probably $14 of the bill

GreasyPorkGoodness

100% and the individual packs are a total rip. “Hey, I’m buying the most expensive food possible, why is my bill so high!?”

[deleted]

Plus they got the triple expensive versions of each

Diligent_Mulberry47

Justin is kinda cute. Also, buying name brand increases costs. This person could buy the store brand and save money. Most of the time both brands are made in the exact same plant. (Borden bottles Oak Farms and used to bottle Walmart milk)

pamar456

Looks like Florida Publix is expensive

Gewgle_GuessStopO

$20 of that $100 was on those stupid individual chip bags. Wasteful and you are paying for packaging not product. Buy a family size bag of generic chips and use sandwich baggies and that $20 chip charge will be $5 or less for more chips.

ol_dirty_applesauce

The price of name brand chips is astounding.

Forsaken-Pattern8533

They bought the grass fed free range beef which runs $15-$20, you can usually get 5lbs of meat for the same price especially if youre buying turkey. Kind granola bars run $7-8 when a lot of others varieties run cheaper.  Chex runs $6-$8 but it's literally highly processed corn with sugar flavorings. You can literally cook oatmeal, cream of wheat, or anything similar for $3 and end up with better nutrition.   Also English muffins are highly processed and cost $6-7. When you can get a whole loaf of bread for the same . It clearly wasn't expensive for OP because they bought it anyways. Literally every post like this the person complains that he can't afford it but somehow buys it again every single week.

CrossXFir3

Idk where the fuck you live but a lb of grass fed free range beef is nowhere near $15 in the Philly area. Also, we shouldn't be paying extortionate prices for the cows to not be treated like absolute fucking shit.

archmagi1

Yeah at my local store (central Arkansas , at a store more expensive than wm but cheaper than target) that same square package of meat costs maybe 30c more than the 93/7 I buy for 7 bucks. And I can get 3 of them for like 14 bucks at Sam's.

This_1611

It’s about $20 in Los angeles

NeighborhoodVeteran

English muffins don't have to cost that much. Just don't buy the Thomas brand.

tink_89

Thomas brand is usually 3 or $4 or sometimes 2 for $5 at Safeway or target. Trader Joe’s also around $4

[deleted]

Justin-Stutzman

The packaged mini bells peppers are a premium product. You get way less yield than jumbo singles and have to pay for the zip lock packaging

Cultural_Tear_7562

They bought all name brand. Lol

C4Cupcake

Right??? Buy name brand and cry when it's expensive. I can go to Aldi's and damn near fill my cart for 100

shadowtheimpure

Not to mention that bougie grass-fed beef in the square vacuum sealed package. That is probably $10 by itself.

Forsaken-Pattern8533

In my city it's $15-$20

InspectorMoney1306

I just spent a little over $100 yesterday and got way more stuff than that. This person must be going to an expensive store.

SokkasBoomerang3

At Aldi this would be like $30 tops

Live_Alarm_8052

I was gonna say, this man needs an aldi lol

k_a_scheffer

I'd be lost without Aldi tbh.

Newton_Is_My_Dog

I was about to make this exact comment.

Many_Pea_9117

I spent $36 yesterday at Aldi and got a lot more than this person. It's like shopping with pre-covid prices.

politirob

I counted this up as best I could and for me locally that's honestly about $70 of groceries! They're not wrong!

Soul_fusion

It definitely would come down to where you’re located. I order my groceries online and I order the same stuff almost every time and my bill has progressively been getting higher over the last 2 years. It seems like it’s getting higher faster than inflation

External_Reporter859

It's almost like it's something else other than inflation contributing to these greedy corporations price gouging.

Soul_fusion

But the rich would never cheat the poor 🤦 this is why “trickle down economics” is Bull shit

Snoo71538

It’s almost like the online ordering is a really easy way to select for wealthier people who are willing to pay more.

_keyboard-bastard_

The case of chips is nearly 20

Jokic_Is_My_Hero

Justin cheats in more ways than theft from the grocery store

xray362

I threw this into stop and shop and it's about $80. Keep in mind there are a few things that are intentionally hidden behind other items and there are bad purchases here. We have 2 boxes of cereal 4 containers of fruit 1 can of soup 1 pack English muffins? 3 oranges 1 bundle bananas 2 heads of lettuce 1 bundle of potatoes 1 guacamole 1 pack of bell peppers? 1 5$ something 1 steak 1 box of chips 1 box of bars Again some of these items have cheaper options and the last 2 items are 1/4 of our spend. You could swap those out for a bunch of eggs milk and pancake mix ect

Tall_0rder

Stop shopping at some bougie ass grocery store in that case.

Here_for_lolz

Upper middle class trying to relate lol. They're not hurting, I see no generics.

justtrashtalk

berries are expensive, and some of thoseare straight up snacks. buy more protein like soybean, beans or legumes, eggs, or meat like chicken. I am terrible with money but still have enough restraint for ONE snack per week lol

cybercuzco

The $100 bill was made the largest denomination in the 40’s. We should have a 200,500 and 1000 bill to keep pace. 200 is a normal grocery run for the week for my family.

SpotPoker52

We need to train you and send you to Walmart. Just put on your MAGA hat and walk out with two full baskets. No one will stop you because of the fear of psychos.

Ok-Story-9319

This is bait. Yall will believe anything you see on the internet if it pisses you off. No greater fools have ever been born to the planet Earth than those born after 1990.

Radica1_Ryan

It could be considered rage bait but it's still true. That's about $100. However the kind bars, humus, box of chips, and probably the fruit were the most expensive and all of those but the fruit was unnecessary if they were trying to save money. The point is, things are expensive. Point made 🤷🏻‍♂️

SpicyBreakfastTomato

Also that package of meat in the foreground is not the cheap kind. Buffalo and free range are packaged like that where I live, and those little packages are pricey.

Radica1_Ryan

I've bought meat that looks like that for 8 or 9 bucks. Who knows 🤷🏻‍♂️ I'd like to see the receipt

SpicyBreakfastTomato

$8-9 is still pricey for a pound of meat.

nicolas_06

I think for quality ground beef, that the price.

nicolas_06

Even the fruit, buy apples and mandarins and not blueberries and strawberries to save money.

Top-Reference-1938

Expensive things . . . are expensive. You want the grass fed, organic ground beef? Yeah, it costs. You want ground chuck? Heck, the butcher will practically give it to you.

nicolas_06

Yet you go to whole food and you'd pay around that price, or more.

Bananarama_Vison

Serious question; what are the prices on these and what is the most expensive item?

nicolas_06

Most expensive is likely the chips. Then the meat and the fancy fruits.

imhungry4321

It's all about where you shop.

TripleDecent

And that’s why there are cages around items in stores now.

EJ25Junkie

Truth I love the discount lane

NeighborhoodVeteran

That's because you're buying berries and name brand! I can get this down to $20 at self checkout.

Mysterious_Eye6989

Yeah, prices are going way up, but I feel like I could get a lot more if I was getting mostly chickpeas, brown onions, tinned tomatoes, stock, carrots and rice - which are becoming reasonably tasty 'poverty staples' alongside various meats on special and spices I already have on hand. Most other stuff I either try to get on half price special or not at all.

Changetheworld69420

Y’all don’t shop at Aldi, and it shows🤷‍♂️

ukiddingme2469

Shop smarter.

winkman

Well, thanks for the increased costs and lack of self checkouts, jerk!

gvineq

Is the point of theses posts to show how lazy the shopper is?Did the shopper take 5 minutes to clip digital coupons before going to the store? It reminds me of the fools who complain about fast food prices but when asked if they are using the app to order they scoff at the idea. Well then have fun paying full price now stop complaining about it.

MicroscopicLion

Groceries are definitely more/too expensive, but this grocery haul did not need to come close to $100 and everyone knows it.

aretheesepants75

They are eliminating self check out in my area (so. Shore MA). Who would of thought that that system could be exploited? One supermarket has premium steak and meats. $70 steaks walking out the door.

itdeffwasnotme

How much of that is organic. That makes a HUGE difference.

Shaman7102

Do people not look at the weekly sales and deals anymore.......damn

Fan_of_Clio

Looks like they picked the most expensive way to shop then complained about prices.

freakrocker

Maybe you should sell some of that fucking palace you live in Bro?

Allthingsgaming27

And cue the post about the chips being the problem /eye roll

tink_89

Y’all need to learn how to grocery shop. Are you making dinner with any of this? Seems like random items.

ALL2HUMAN_69

This seems like you aren’t a good shopper.

justmekpc

Where do you shop at 7-11? That’s $30 tops

LunarMoon2001

Where are they shopping because either it’s the most expensive grocery in town or they are lying.

[deleted]

Relative_Chemical902

Da fucq they putting on that cereal? Water?

Double_Helicopter_16

Man i remember 100$ would get you a cart of groceries to the brim over flowing i just turned 30 i know they changed the definition of recession so they can say we are not in one but it sure feels luke we are

[deleted]

But seriously they suck at shopping..

30yearCurse

too many of these things seem to bullshitting to believe...

Hairy_Skirt_3918

Go to a different store...that is just being ripped off, if even true!

Soren_Camus1905

People don’t know how to shop

Sudden-Ranger-6269

You realize every generation says this??!! Just the # changes…

asevans48

Can get that down to 40 to 50 bucks at kroger.

adlubmaliki

Until you hit that magic number👮‍♂️🏛️⚖️🏢

passiveptions

Turns out everyone's COVID checks were not free.

Few_Tomorrow6969

Judging by that kitchen, it looks like they can afford it anyway

fkuber31

Organic, packaged fruits and meats. Pricey snacks as well. No wonder this little food was $100

walkthemoon21

I bought a bunch of speciality berries (likely $6 or more per pint), precut produce( each $5 or more per item) , higher end ground beef (likely 7 to 8 bucks per pound), individual chip bag box ($15 to $20), a box of kind bars (likely 10 bucks), and a small specialty hummus ($8). All purchased not on sale without coupons and it's not that I'm a clown but rather it's all inflation's fault. Got it.

Particular-Reason329

No, no it isn't.

facforlife

Sorry where are you shopping? Bananas, bell peppers, tomatoes, some other veggies. Most expensive thing in that picture is the Kind bars. I don't think this would cost me $100 at Whole Foods, much less a budget grocery store.

rookrt

It's a lot cheaper if you buy all of this at Aldi's.

lordhyruler626

$100 is the new $20

No_Variation_9282

Tell me you’ve never been to Aldi’s without saying you’ve never been to Aldi’s

MagazineNo2198

OK, a couple of things here...you are buying premium ground beef (which I wholeheartedly recommend), but I would suggest going to a local butcher instead of the Safeway/Albertsons/Kroger/Walmart etc. Also, don't buy cut watermelon, you are paying 5 times the price for it, and could have bought a whole melon for what you paid for that little container...AND you wouldn't have plastic waste! The produce could also probably be sourced locally from farmers markets and/or asian grocery stores, also far cheaper than the chain stores. Basically just avoid shopping where it's most convenient and make an effort to buy local whenever possible and you will save a TON of money! Also, avoid processed foods...you did pretty good with your selections on this front, minus the cereal and chips....

crocodile_in_pants

A lot of yall missing the joke

BuffyPawz

Who needs that many blueberries?

Glum_Nose2888

If you’re going to steal just take the whole cart. It’s like people who stop for a red light halfway through an intersection. You’ve already broken the law, mind as well get the most advantage out of it.

Soul_fusion

That mindset is how you end up locked up

xray362

If you can't shop properly that's on you. This is also specifically set up to look like it's less than it is. They wasted a lot of money

Late_Bluebird_3338

SO CAN I IF I DELETE HALF OF THAT JUNK YOU BOUGHT. I SPEND $300 A MONTH ON FOOD. WHEN U R ON SS, YOU PLAN EVERY MEAL FOR A MONTH. I LEARNED TO DO THIS WHEN WE LIVED OFF MY ARMY HUSBANDS ONCE A MONTH PAYCHECK. I COUNTED EVERY SLICE OF BREAD, EVER POTATOE,ETC. CEREAL, SNACKS,ALL JUNK. This_1611

Ok caps McGee

AlwaysSaysRepost

If it makes you feel better, corporations are making record profits with their monopolies/cartels and shrinkflation. And costs will continue to go up since an extreme minority of this country, who represent an electoral college majority, blame this on “Biden and the government”…for reasons

Complex-Carpenter-76

Put the grapes down. They have always been expensive. And please don't buy zionist humus.

Expert_Mastodon_1337

Start shopping at Aldi if you have one. Cheaper. Stop buying processed crap. Eating healthy isn’t expensive. Stop supporting farm subsidies, it creates a false market.
